    Samurai Roll
    Ashlee D.

This is my 2nd visit here. I went last year with my husband and we were impressed. Today I dined alone for lunch. I was the only person eating in at the time yet somehow I felt forgotten at times. I was seated and got my food right away. I got the sashimi lunch and samurai roll. So fresh and delicious! However I had ordered a side of spicy mayo which didn't come. No big deal. But no one came to check on me for my whole meal. I needed a drink refill. No one. I could see some staff sitting together which is totally fine with me. But again I was the only person dining there and for my whole meal no one came to check on me. I will certainly go back and hope for better service next time.

Came here for a hibachi dinner for two and the food was delicious!! The hibachi chef put on a good show. We had a spicy tuna roll to start and that was yum too. Excited to come back for another meal :)

I like this place a lot - the decor and the food in particular. The waitstaff is always very pleasant and helpful...even if not a one of them seems to be familiar with the word "nigiri". There is much (read: everything) that I don't know about the Japanese language and I may be misusing the word or something. Maybe it's not a word that's ever spoken but only written. Maybe it's written "nigiri" and pronounced "when she smiled, doubt was no longer possible: it was Natasha, and he loved her." I'll have to try pronouncing it that way next time. I like the water fountain burbling in the background (sometimes I wish it didn't have to compete with the (non-Japanese) music playing over the sound system). I like the big wooden ship in the middle of the room and the smaller (but still quite big) wooden ships on which large orders of sushi arrive. The quality of the mixed drinks can be little hit-or-miss, but when they're good, they're very good, and the sushi is always fresh and delicious. Being at a loss for a pithy conclusion, I will simply end this here.

Maki: eel cucumber, salmon. Nigiri: tamago, unagi, sake, maguro, hirame, toro, saba, himache. 2019 01 17. S26.

I walked in to a completely empty, dimly-lit restaurant for a late lunch. After a couple minutes of waiting, I was luckily able to attract the attention of the sushi chef, because all three servers were hiding in the back somewhere. As I sat at the sushi bar, I was handed a ten-page menu with lots and lots of photos. I looked down to see the beer-sponsored photo place mat with lots of pictures of sushi. If not for the real hashi (not disposable) and hashi-oki, I would have expected to see sushi murals on the walls. At least, no TV on the wall (photo). The overall ambiance seemed more geared toward large groups who enjoy the knife skills, mini fire volcanoes and sake squirt bottles that have come to epitomize teppanyaki. As usual, I ordered several simple items, just to measure the skills of the chefs before trying out one of their "stripper" rolls (I think they had hoped to spell "striper" [bass]). Despite repeating my choices three times, I still ended up with order errors. My server seemed to swing between two extremes - completely ignoring me and being patronizingly helpful. I think I can pour my own soy sauce. Also, the sushi chef is right in front of me, and has already handed me one plate - I probably don't need you to rush in to hand me the other. The chef presented me with a complimentary amuse bouche: a small ball of spicy shredded imitation crab wrapped with thin slices of avocado. It was edible, I guess, but I usually avoid ordering surimi of any kind. The soup was not bad, and a lot hotter than the tea. The sushi was a mixed bag, prepared by two different chefs - one for the nigiri, and one for the maki (photo). The rice for both was very lightly seasoned, and each was plated very simply. From the nigiri, the toro was very good, and the saba and hirame were both pleasant, however, none of the nigiri had wasabi added under the fish - a step few local restaurants add. The unagi was a little different - a few small slices of avocado were added atop the eel - but not bad. But the rolls tasted "off." I should have been suspicious when I saw the fish removed from the display cooler to create the roll. The salmon for my nigiri was cut directly from a fillet, but the salmon for the maki was pre-cut, pulled out of a small plastic tub. Not good. I couldn't eat more than two of the maki, when I decided not to punish myself anymore. I wasn't sick later, so apparently the taste was just bad, not rancid. When one of the inattentive servers finally approached me ten minutes after I finished eating, she saw the maki remaining on my plate. Instead of asking about the meal, she offered me a "to-go" box, which I instantly refused. I found this restaurant very uneven. The nigiri that I ordered were pretty good. The maki and the servers were not. It will most likely be a while before I return. 2019 01 17. S26.

First, your Brunch menu and food are excellent, when we finally got our food - after roughly an hour of waiting - I was instantly reminded of why Dove and Deer is great - bold flavors, excellent preparation, gorgeous plates all in a city that desperately needs it. Second, I really felt bad for the 3 people responsible for running an entire restaurant on a Sunday (two waiters and one person in the kitchen). They did their absolute best, were so kind and apologetic, but obviously completely stressed out and frazzled. Tables got up and left after waiting for someone to get back to them - and we almost did too. It's unfair to restaurant staff to put the burden of running an entire place on them. I get if someone called off and you're short staffed 1 or 2 people, but did everyone call off? Besides 3 people? Come on. You have a real opportunity to be a go to brunch destination, my advice is to staff appropriately and give it a real go or risk customers not getting to experience the greatness that is your food - and taking their dollars to someplace far more mediocre. The only reason this isn't a 2 star or 1 star review is because of how hard your staff tried, and how good your food is (when it finally shows up).

We had a fixed menu that included shrimp cocktail, mixed greens salad, filet mignon, dessert, and an open bar. After a couple of old fashioneds and some shrimp cocktail, I was already happy. Really, all of the food and drinks were enjoyable. The filet mignon especially stood out -- a 10oz center cut filet with cabernet demi-glacé -- and mine came out a perfect medium rare. The sides were well done too, especially the smashed Yukon gold potatoes and grilled asparagus. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauces and whipped cream that finished the meal nicely. Service throughout the night was excellent. Plates moved quickly, drinks kept flowing, and wine glasses were consistently topped off without needing to ask. It's an essential stop whenever I'm in Albany, striking that rare balance between upscale sophistication and genuinely warm hospitality. Under the leadership of Jaime Ortiz and Ken Kehn, the restaurant continues to deliver a consistently exceptional experience. We had a 6:30 p.m. reservation for five while celebrating a friend's 45th birthday. We arrived early to enjoy the outstanding happy hour offerings, including $11 well martinis, excellent deviled eggs, oysters, and duck wings. The next day, I reviewed the bar tab and noticed we had been charged $16 per martini instead of the happy hour price. Since we ordered several rounds, the difference was significant and also affected the gratuity, as we tipped 22 percent. To the restaurant's credit, when I returned and pointed out the mistake, the staff addressed it promptly and reimbursed us for most of the overcharge. 677 is a good choice if you're visiting for a celebratory steak dinner, a business meal, or cocktails at happy hour, every detail feels polished and thoughtfully executed. One standout is the Hanging Tomahawk for Two -- a dramatic 50-ounce prime cut, sliced tableside and paired with parmesan- and butter-breadcrumb-crusted fingerling potatoes. It's every bit as impressive as it sounds. What truly elevates the experience is the staff. They don't simply serve guests -- they anticipate needs before you even realize them. In an era when fine dining can sometimes feel formulaic, 677 Prime distinguishes itself through constant refinement and a commitment to making each visit better than the last. Easily one of the finest restaurants in Albany. One pro-tip: review your tab before paying.

Thirteen years is a long time to have been away from Chez Mike. We've mentioned it multiple times…read moreover those years as a possible dinner location but somehow always ended up someplace else. Gathering with friends on this occasion seemed to be the trick. The restaurant was reasonably busy when we arrived at 5:15 on a Tuesday and all of the unoccupied booths already had reserved signs on them. When we left at 8 p.m. it was still almost full of customers. We sat at the bar with a Chatham Helles Lager ($7) and a refreshing Mocktail ($5) made with cucumber and mint while we waited for our dining companions. Upon seating our party of four into one of those reserved booths, my wife and I started with the Seared Halloumi Cheese ($13) as a shared appetizer. This dish was so attractive and appealing looking that our dining companions also ordered it after we were almost finished with our serving. Maybe our raving about the wonderful flavor of the cheese, the beautiful sear markings, the refreshing aspect of the watermelon pieces, the texture contrast of the pistachios, and the flavor of the honey-sherry vinaigrette also had something to do with their decision. For her entrée, my wife ordered one of the daily specials, Pan Roasted Cod ($35). Served with steamed rice, braised Swiss chard, sweet potato, and a slightly spicy "Holy Trinity" creole sauce, she was very pleased with the dish. My taste of it echoed her sentiment. As I've written previously, I don't get to enjoy lamb at home so I will frequently order it when it's available while dining out. Therefore, the Lamb Feta Burger ($23) had my attention. It was served on a toasted baguette (the same that is served as the delicious bread for the table with calamata olive butter), with caramelized onions, arugula, garlic aioli, and French fries. The lamb was fresh, moist, very mild in flavor, but with only a slight noticeability of the feta cheese. It was delicious! The French fries were served perfectly, hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Cups of coffee after dinner were rich and full flavored. Finally, the cubes of brown sugar that I was so pleased to see served thirteen years ago are still being served. Hurrah! Service was friendly and welcoming.

My most recent visit was quite the contrary. I made a reservation, and upon check-in, the hostess was confused about my name and the number attending. Following an awkward wait, we were seated in the "upper" area with poorer quality seats and tables compared to the "lower" main dining level. The table settings in this area had no table lamp, and the general lighting was dimmer. The table itself had foldable sections underneath that were hitting our legs. After seating, we were left unattended for about ten minutes. Once the waiter finally arrived, they apologized and offered to get us going quickly. Their dialogue and demeanor came off as rushed, which was unpleasant. After noticing there were several open tables in the main dining area of the restaurant, I asked to be seated elsewhere given the awkwardness and seclusion of the table. The waiter responded by saying that the table was selectively set up per my request for a private table. I use standard language when reserving tables via OpenTable, Resy, etc., explicitly asking for a corner table or booth, and have never encountered confusion or been put in a different section entirely from the main dining area. Additionally, if the section was specifically reserved only for us, my presence would not have gone unnoticed for so long. When we moved, we still did not receive a corner table even when there was availability. Rather than continue playing musical chairs or hear more excuses, we accepted what was given. On to the food. We ordered oysters, tuna tartare, grilled octopus, lobster fried rice, and the crème brûlée dessert. I'll preface by saying that we do not waste food, so even when not ideal, we will consume the served portion. The oysters were fresh, but the mignonette sauce was added with a dropper by the waitress, and no lemon or other sauce was provided. Very strange. The quality and freshness of the tuna tartare were subpar. It was a bit firm and flavor-wise, it was unappealing. The grilled octopus was a small portion and firm and chewy. For $38, it was shocking in price and lack of quality. The lobster fried rice was mildly dry and only small bits of lobster were provided. It seemed like one claw was chopped into tiny pieces and added to the rice. Another pricey dish at $33 for the quality. The dessert was nice but lacked flavor. Overall, the food was a disappointment and a far cry from my previous experience. Lastly, the vibe and attire of the patrons were unexpected. Understanding that Yono's is attached to a hotel and is open to everyone, we still did not anticipate people in shorts, sandals, and casual attire. Although it was after 7 PM, there were many children dining, and that negatively impacted the ambience, especially when you're trying to have an elegant night. Yono's bills itself as an upscale, fine-dining restaurant. Our experience on this visit was disappointing, and we would not return.

When we entered there was no host at the counter, we were just standing there for a minute or two before we started searching for someone. Finally, a lady came out the back kitchen and seated us. We just wanted a small lunch since we were planning on picking up food from Che Figata later that evening. Well, I guess there is no regular menu only the all you can eat buffet menu ($28 each)? The way it works is there is actually no buffet at all, you must place an order for items on the buffet menu then wait for the food to be delivered. If you're still hungry and want more you need to place another order. On one hand, your food would be fresh and not sitting out on a buffet; alternatively, most people will fill up before their second or third item arrives. Something to note is you can only order 2 pieces of sushi or sashimi per order, and one sushi roll per order. It wasn't too busy; however, customers that were already seated were just twiddling their thumbs waiting for more food to arrive and there was only one server and she didn't look like much of a go-getter. After about 5-minutes of waiting around for something to happen we decided it would be better if we got the hell out of there before we were stuck sitting around like everyone else. I guess this concept works as this restaurant does have good reviews, but I just didn't like the vibe and couldn't risk a potential bad experience on Mother's Day. Sorry Sushi Shine, we decided to go to Sawa Shushi Bistro instead and had a wonderful experience there.
