This is one of my favorite places. It's such a versatile spot, you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes it's crowded at the bar when there is about to be a show downstairs, but other times it's not. There is a lot of space with a lot of different moods in each. The regular bartender is always nice, even when it's stressful and busy. Good happy hour deals too. We come here a lot for the comedy. It's a great venue, small and personal with a great vibe. Since there's a bar upstairs, a lot of people hang out for a few hours before the show starts. Last night was the second show we've been to where there have been a few people so intoxicated, they could barely function. Both times the drunk people heckled the performer and were generally unruly. I'd just like to give a shout out to the staff at Union Hall for handling both of these incidents in an incredibly professional manner. Things could have gotten really ugly last night. I come here all the time for comedy shows. They have great performers, and it's a really intimate space on the bottom floor (not accessible), but it has really limited spacing and seats are tight. It's a bit uncomfortable if you don't get there earlier to have a seat, but there are similar issues at Bell House, their sister venue), though the latter is much larger. I haven't tried out the food -- have heard good things -- but they have a good standard cocktail/beer selection. read more

It's been a while since I was here late at night but it's great to come here in early evening. They have a great happy hour deal (M-F from 4 - 7 pm). I love the $7 well drink special during that time (they have a similar deal for draft beer + wine). I've usually seen the same bartender in there and he always seems very nice. I find UH nice for sitting at the bar or for sitting on the sofas/cozy chairs and reading. It's just a very comfortable, unassuming vibe and there is usually good music playing in the background. Last time I was here it looked like they have a decent food menu, so if they're still doing that I'll have to try something next time. read more

This review is for the comedy shows that take place in the basement of Union Hall. They host comedy nights with a low cover and no minimum on food or drinks. Our friend suggested we check out a new show, WAR, starring some SNL folks. We made our way over to the quiet neighborhood. You would never assume a stand up show was being performed at this bocce ball bar. However, if you go towards the back, there are stairs which lead you to the basement. WAR was hilarious. The Moscow Mule was a nice treat ($10 for a small glass) but it did the job. They didn't offer food which I was disappointed with at first. However, after seeing the seating situation, you probably wouldn't want to be holding a platter of poutine anyway. All in all, the night was filled with lots of laughter and a good time. read more

The vibes are immaculate here! I went on a Friday night for a friends birthday. Before midnight we were upstairs, playing, bocce ball, getting some drinks and ordered some food. The basket of fries with the garlic aïoli sauce had the spot, as well as the chicken sandwich, which was pretty massive (should be for $15!). When you order food, they give you a little beeper that will let you know when your food is ready. I thought it vibrated but mine didn't so I would watch out for that. It definitely glows red though. After midnight, we went downstairs for karaoke, and it was so much fun ! You get on stage like a true star and the Brooklyn vibes really do hit all the way through. Such a good crowd, so much fun! We danced and cheered everyone on. They even saying happy birthday to my friend and had her get on stage. I would totally come back here. Been here multiple times recently for comedy shows downstairs (came for a Jena Friedman set, and then another Ilana Glazer set)...and have to say this along with The Bell House, are my favorite venues in the area (not the biggest fan of Littlefield). The upstairs bar has comfy couches where you can chill and have a conversation, or you can play bocce ball in the back. The place can get pretty busy at times, but the space is large enough to never feel cramped. Downstairs is typically where the shows are at. It's quite small and intimate, so you can get up close to the performers. They have a small bar downstairs, which is convenient so you don't have to go back upstairs for drinks. Love the laid back vibe here, and don't be surprised if you find well known comedians testing out material. Lots of talented local comedians who open here are great - last time there was this comedian with a whole bit about Olmsted (the restaurant, not the architect). Talk about hyper local humor! The guy had me rolling. Because comedians are testing material here, don't be surprised if they lock away your cell phones in these little magnet devices/pouches during the show. June 2022: I've been to Union Hall for events several times now, and I do enjoy coming here for their Hack City comedy shows which are held in their lower floor. So far, I've always felt safe as they are quite strict with their events: IDs and vax card checks. Masks are optional due to their policy. The lower level is very intimate and has a bar and non gendered bathrooms for convenience. Their main floor is a casual, hipster lounge bar and bocce ball space and seems like a local hangout in the area. Overall, fun place to visit when in Brooklyn. Accepts cash, card, and Applepay. *** This review is for a special event held in the basement space*** I cannot thank Kristen and her staff at Union Hall enough for making my birthday event such a huge success. I had actually signed a contract to buy out the basement space back in December 2021 and my event was Saturday, July 23rd. Kristen came on as GM in the meantime and I couldn't have asked for a better partner for my event. I have done event planning in the past and had a long list of details that needed to be executed on properly. From day one, Kristen's patience, attention-to-detail, and experience operating large venues and executing theater productions was the perfect recipe for success. From our first meeting to the email exchanges leading up to the event and execution on the day of, she was great to work with. She was even flexible on letting us get in to decorate a little earlier before the party started. Ian and the rest of the production staff were consummate professionals and perfectly executed on the run of show I provided. I also loved Jill the bartender, who really enjoyed our music, which was a huge plus for me. I wanted everyone to have a good time, or as good as possible, even though they were working. Most importantly, my guests and I had the best time. People will be talking about this event for years to come. And having great staff at Union Hall meant I could enjoy my special day without having to worry about anything going wrong. I want to thank them all from the bottom of my heart. Had drinks at Union Hall on Sunday afternoon. My biggest complaint is that I wish I had wandered into here sooner. Quality: We entered hoping they would have the World Cup on, but ended up staying despite no televisions, because the atmosphere was perfect. We cozied up near the fire with beers and cocktails. They have a very solid beer list with lots of local favorites, mixed with a few speciality cocktails. Everything you need. Towards the end of our visit we played a quick game of bocce, it is a lot of fun. Simply a great bar, whether you just want to sit and drink or if you want to play around with friends. Quantity: Strong pours for drinks. Value: $7-$9 for Beers. $10-$14 for Cocktails. Ambiance: Union Hall is a cool bar and event venue in Park Slope. Walking in on a cold and rainy day, there is nothing like a warm fireplace, comfortable leather couches, and beers. The front area feels very sophisticated, and a wonderful winter weather environment. Further back they have two massive bocce ball courts, a very cool element and something to keep groups busy. They also had a skinny outdoor area, but it was deserted this day. I believe they host events in a basement space, the walls were covered in upcoming comedy show flyers. Went here with some co workers after work yesterday and the guy behind the bar was very rude. He seem to be in his late 40s early 50s. At the bar i was ready to order my drink and he tells me to hold on and proceed to take another customer who just walked in. I didnt say anything at first just was being patience. He took at least three other people before serving me my drink. towards the end of the night i had my card on file so i went back to the bar to get my card. So now he is telling me to wait again while taking other peoples drinks. He looks at me to tell me "whats wrong with your face why are you looking at me like that". I will never ever go here again. Chill pub, good vibes, even on a rainy day on a Friday night in Brooklyn. Was pretty popular on the main floor where the bocce was, so we were moved downstairs where we were the only guests kind of just left in the dark. I like the cozy atmosphere of the bar, with the library theme, and the idea of being COVID-cautious with ordering on one's own mobile phone. The food was limited/average, but overall a good beer selection and it was pretty timely/efficient service. I will never come back here ‼‼ Horrible establishment and very prejudice. Tonight when I was meeting my friend for her birthday I walked in and showed the bouncer "Anthony" my ID. He continued to say my ID was fake because I am from "Oregon" and because "it was flimsy." Mind you I am 24 years old and from Oregon. I told him to please scan my ID to check for age verification. He told me he couldn't and proceeded to tell me he was going to call the police on me. I then asked for the manager and the manager didn't say one word to me. When the police finally arrived, they of course told the bouncer I was actually 24 and that he was wrong. The manager then told me he was "sorry for the embarrassment" and nothing else. Not only was I one of the only black women in this bar, but the entire staff was unfriendly and not helpful. The bouncer continued to gaslight me and tell me I was underage when I was not. I would not step foot in this place again and I would never recommend to any of my family or friends. Don't waste your time here. read more

I saw a comedy show here last night and had a great laugh! This venue is very easy to find and there was lots of available free street parking in front of it on a Sunday evening. The first level of the bar is so vintage, with a very long bar, bookshelves, antique decor and couches and even an area to play bocce! The basement level had a bar as well and that's where the performances were. There was a little stage with rows of folding chairs but I do wish that it was less cramped. I think too many people were allowed in because it was hard to get up to use the restroom or even adjust your seating and all the people made it very hot downstairs too. There's nothing I love more than having drinks outside in the middle of a NYC downpour after days of shvitzing. Our bartender was a power house setting up shop, mixing drinks, propping open tents, and greeting people that passed her by without breaking a sweat or anyone's balls. She was genuinely happy to see and interact with people even when they "sucked." She encouraged us to get snacks from the taco truck at the corner since they only serve pizza during these pandemic times. I could have sat there for longer drenched in rain instead of my own sweat if it weren't for the chill that started to set in at sundown. It went very smoothly thanks to planning with Naomi, the event contact, and all the staff involved. The platform in the back of the bar was perfect for the party - cozy and apart from the rest of the main bar area, and the bocce fields added additional entertainment. Food was very good as well.
