This bar has all the things I want in a bar after I play old man soccer for the first time in years a few blocks away. I realize that's very specific, but that's what happened, and maybe you are also into the things this bar has even if that wasn't you: 1. A great bartender. She poured pints like it was her job (it was), was super friendly, and didn't miss a beat all night. 2. Lots of comfortable seating, and TVs for any games you need. 3. A truly great backyard with plenty of seats and tables for when we drunkenly order pizza after saying we didn't need anything to eat hours before. 4. Darts. Who doesn't love throwing sharp objects around after they've been drinking? 5. Amazing signage. I like the one calling me a motherfucker if I climb around outside. And the bathroom sign saying they'll hate me if I break a glass because I leave it on the sink. It's the little things. 6. Trivia on Wednesdays. 7. Homemade fireball? One of the guys I was with noted that was on the menu, and I would've immediately bought us some shots but I had just met him that night. Next time. I'll report back. 8. Good vibes. Uncle Barry is a good guy, let me tell you. So first of all, its location to Barclay's is phenomenal. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the drinks here would be, by default, expensive. Oh, but you'd be so very wrong. Uncle B (he let me know that nickname was OK*), keeps everything nice and reasonable for all of us, and I just wanted to take a second to thank him for that. Aside from the cheap drinks, you'll find a super cool staff, a low key (almost divey, but not quite) theme, and a chill back yard for when you're drinking and the sun is still up. Uncle Barry's is a place to go if you want to feel comfortable, just like any loving uncle's house would be. Came here on a date and I think we were both impressed how awesome this bar is. Has a very warm and inviting feeling with an amazing bar. Lots of top shelf liquor, beer specials and ciders. The bar side itself is pretty big and has comfortable bar chairs. For an early Friday night, not a bad place to start your pregame on. Location is great and not to far from major trains location and restaurants. I had the hot cider with rum- delicious and full of great flavor. My date had the beer (which I don't remember the name) but also enjoyed it. Will be coming back. Grabbed after work drinks at Uncle Barry's on Friday evening. A decent spot to have a cheap strong drink, and convenient if going to Barclays. Quality: Uncle Barry's is a solid dive bar. They have a sizable beer list, with twelve beers on tap and another dozen or so available in bottles and cans. I also appreciate that they offer Flights in case you just can't choose. They have a couple of wines, then a full bar with some house cocktails written out. During our visit I tried the Gingervitus, with cucumber, vodka, pimms, lime, ginger syrup, and soda, a Kentucky Mule, and a Mezcal Frozen Margarita. They were all fine and quite strong, but after seeing them pour the mezcal before the frozen mix, which left the drink an unmixed mess, it was even more clear this is definitely a beer spot. Quantity: They serve up some stiff cocktails. Value: $10 for the House Cocktails. $12 for the Mezcal Frozen Margarita. Ambiance: Uncle Barry's is located along 5th Ave in Park Slope, very close to Barclays. It has the feel of a place that gets packed before and after games and concerts. They had a small outdoor setup in front of the bar, but on a rainy Friday most folks congregated inside. They have a long bar on the right wall with plenty of stools and then high-tops surrounding it. There was also a small private area in the back that had a dart board. A television hung at each end of the bar, both playing basketball highlights, and the walls were covered with a random assortment of things, from old kung fu posters to subway maps. Crowd: A small crowd for Friday happy hour. There were a few folks who looked like they had been there since the bar opened and a slow flow of customers coming from work. Service: Very friendly and funny bartenders. This is a bar with a good amount of regulars, so it was great to witness the banter with the staff. This bar is great for happy hour. There's a hundred places to choose from near Barclays, but I find myself here every time. The beer list is usually pretty solid and they have some fancy, more expensive cocktails as well. Don't expect to get food here -- just bring it in with you. One annoyance last time that greatly inconvenienced us: the bartender wouldn't accept a credit card that didn't have a chip in it. There was nothing anywhere that indicated this was an issue (they have other signs indicating there's a minimum credit card charge and a fee and so on). So, my advice to you: come with cash and avoid such hassles. read more

I usually end up here once a year when I bar-hop in this area. I managed to attend one of their trivia nights once a couple years ago, it was fun! I have fond memories of the margaritas here, and it was a good date spot. Was. I never made a review because i always forget the name of this bar, but back in March the bartender there refused to take my valid state ID. Granted, it still said "under 21" because I was 18 when I got it, but there's no law against that, at least not in NYC (as far as i know, please correct me). My birth year is more than enough to show that I am of legal age. He was like "no one's ever told you to update your ID?" and I go "Well.. no, maybe once? But no one's stopped me yet and I'm 25" Then he started going on about "getting a $10,000 fine" and I was so confused. I'd never been in this situation before, and I've visited dozens of bars with the same ID ever since I turned 21 with no issue. Anyway, one of my friends started going back and forth with him and I figured it wasn't worth the drama, so we just left. I was planning to stop here for my 26th birthday, but that's cancelled. Now I'm on yelp looking for other bars, figured I'd leave this review after being reminded of that bizarre situation. read more

I've been back many times since 2012, especially for trivia night Wednesday. I think it's the best trivia in the neighborhood, but I haven't done them all. They have friendly bartenders and a rotating selection of new craft beers. If you're trying to find a new taste of something, chances are Uncle Barry's will have it. A word of warning about trivia night - it's gotten very popular so get there early to snag a table. They allow outside food too, so keep that in mind. read more

I'm giving this place five stars because it's great for its category - which is neighborhood, no frills place to grab a beer. It looks pretty average when you peek inside, but that's part of the charm. It's also a good place to go with whoever. Mr. F and I have spent many a weekend afternoon there (happy hour 1-7, even on weekends! $2 off a bunch of beers, so a far amount are $5) and have seen a wide variety of people. Couples on a date. Groups of sports fans cheering on their team (there are two TVs that are usually tuned to games, but aren't loud if sports aren't your thing). People having a beer by themselves. Friends meeting up. Last time we were there, we saw an adorable family playing cards with their kid in the front window. Anything goes here, which is exactly how it should be for a neighborhood bar. I mentioned beer a lot - I think there are other drinks available, but we've only had beers, and they have a great selection, even including Guinness, which is virtually impossible to find at happy hour price anywhere. Love Tricia night here on Wednesday at 9pm even though I am not the best at trivia. They allow you to bring in food from nearby vendors since they don't serve food and you can have dinner, drinks and exercise your brain for a few hours. Super cool laid back neighborhood to hang out in! Stopped in on a Friday and was met by the most upbeat, chill, down to earth bartender who had us chatting for hours! Loved every minute of it. Uncle Barry's has an impressive beer selection. Being from Seattle it can be a little difficult to go to a bar and be able to pick from various IPA's. We are spoiled in the Northwest. The biggest​ draw here I would say is the trivia. It's the busiest I see this place, you will want to arrive a bit early if you want a good spot. The trivia can be more than questions such as song recognition or figuring out what a bunch of images have in common which is a change of pace from trivia I'm used to. Lots of beers available and full liquor​. A couple​ small snacks you can buy but, you can also​ bring in outside food. From the inside and outside, Uncle Barry's does not appear to be a frat bar at all. From the outside, without looking in, Barry's looks like an established butcher shop with a stylish upgrade. From the inside, it's dimly lit and spacious, and appeals to a more sophisticated crowd. If I was in a frat, I'd be turned off by the lack of Bud Light pitcher specials, but since I enjoy beer, I'm delighted by the range of choices and the duration of happy hour. Happy Hour is all day until 7 PM, plus there's late night happy hour from 2 - 4 AM, if you can hang like a boss. Tap beers and cocktails are two dollars off. Downside: It's trying to be a Packers bar during football season. Upside: They have the arcade version of MORTAL KOMBAT 2. Sorry girls, you just won't understand my excitement. Hot cider ($8) was toasty and spicy - just what our group needed after a rejection from the always-crowded-and-not-worth-the-wait Chocolate Room. $10 for a tiny cheese plate is steep but I admit that the cheeses were unusually delicious. Co-ed bathrooms. Heh heh. Uncle Barry's is nothing fancy, in a good way. It's a relaxed, bring-a-pack-of-cards neighborhood bar with a Brooklyn feel (but not too much!). Otherwise the space basically has no character but the ambiance did get nicer as the night wore on. Best: Happy hour 1-7pm all week! $2 off everything except food and shots. I salute the fact that daydrinking is actively encouraged. Most beers are $6 regularly... how do you resist $4 Allagash White on tap? The rest of the beer list is great, with some unusual contenders. I love this bar. It really is a great addition to the neighborhood. It's never too busy, and never too crowded, and the bartenders are all actually really warm and friendly. I really enjoyed this bar. I have heard it gets crowded on weekends, but I was here the Thursday after Christmas around 10pm and there were plenty of seats available. The bartender was really friendly and cool and has good taste in music seeing as his iPod was running the show. I can only recall my early 90s favorites (Nirvana) but he apparently played more modern stuff (Modest Mouse?). They have beer flights for $10 that come in 4 of this tulip shaped beer glasses. I feel like this made it look like I was drinking more than I was. Most beers were $6 and they had a very respectable list of craft brews that is becoming daily standard at a bar in Park Slope. It's a stone's throw from Barclays so could see it being a good pre game or after show spot. I also like that it is on a block with 2 or 3 other bars which makes it feel pretty happening and gives options. There were darts in the back, but this meant that every bathroom trip meant interrupting a game to pass through. There are a few random Star Wars decorations, like a really nicely draw Darth Vader behind the bar. I feel like I could bring almost anyone here, it isn't too sceney or hipster or sporty or divey, just a really comfortable non-pretentious place for a drink. read more

While I don't hang out in this area usually, this is one serious beer bar. It has a large selection, but one that is selective and filled with incredible beers. I recommend the Heady Topper (Beer Advocate's #1 beer and a beer impossible to find in NYC), Founder's Breakfast Stout, Allagash White, and Victory At Sea Porter. From 1:00-7:00, there is a Happy Hour with $2 off of draft beers. With that great list of beers, $4-6 beers during Happy Hour is a great beer. Uncle Barry's is a solid bar to hang out and enjoy a few drinks with friends. (full disclosure: one of the owners is a friend of mine, but I did write this objectively) This place hits on all the aspects that one could want in a go-to, low-key bar. Decor & Chill Ambiance: Exposed brick, a black ceiling and dim, old-fashioned, carbon-filament bulbs hanging low over the bar make for a pleasantly mellow atmosphere. Booths up front by the windows provide good seating for groups. Good music that you'll recognize (no pop hits) set the mood. This bar doesn't take itself too seriously -- you can even mess around with the Mortal Kombat arcade game in the back. Comfortable bar stools are good for watching either of 2 TVs that flank the bar (3 TVs if you count the projector) that are tuned to sports or Comedy Central. Beer Selection: About 20 decent options on tap should do the trick. Avery, Sixpoint, Sly Fox, Founders and Allagash were among the breweries poured when I was there -- and they were pouring one of my West Coast favorites: Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin'. Plus, I didn't see a single Bud Light in sight. Price: Beers were all $5-$7, and that's as good a deal as you'll get for most of these brews. And they have a sweet happy hour deal with $2 off everything 'til 7pm (and after 2am). When it comes to a relaxed, neighborhood bar, Uncle Barry's fits the bill. It's a relaxed spot with laid-back folks behind the bar serving drinks at reasonable prices. In a world full of pubs that all sort of blend together, this is a watering hole that is (as they proclaim) "a bar" and isn't trying to be anything more or anything less. It accomplishes exactly what it sets out to be. Overall impression: I'll definitely be back here for trivia night once that starts (owner Josh is a trivia guru), but in the meantime this is the type of place that I'd suggest as either a great mid-week meetup for friends to catch up over a few beers, a mellow bar to watch baseball or football on TV, a low-key place to start the evening or even a late-night spot to wind down after a night out. read more

We popped in here after a boozy brunch, a stop in at a couple of other bars in Park Slope, and a little bit of shopping. Originally, our plan was to wander back to Fort Greene and hit up the German pub, but a sign that said "Happy Hour" on one side and "Beer (with an arrow pointing inside)" on the other made us do a double take. Happy Hour on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm? I'm sold. Anyhow, I'm not a Brooklyner, but I really dug this place. Great ambiance, excellent beer selection, and a really chill bartender/owner (Josh). He made us some cocktails, let us do some beer tastings, and engaged in a lot of silly bantering--precisely what I expect from a bar. He also told us that some had observed that Uncle Barry's seemed a bit "fratty". As a former sorority girl, I'm a little confused. We didn't smash beer cans on our heads, I didn't see any New Balance sneakers, and no one tried to take me back to his house to "just watch a movie and talk", so I'm going to ixnay those strange comments. Come to find out, the bartender used to live a few blocks away from me in DC. So Josh, if you'd like to open up a second location back in CH, give me a holler. We need more "dive bars" that I actually don't feel like I'm going to get a disease from (holler back, Raven). Highly encourage those of y'all that live around here to stop in... especially before it gets crazy when the new arena is finished. The bartenders are all so welcoming and kind and happy to chat with you without being intrusive or overbearing. They know everyone's names and treat everyone that comes in like friends and family. The bar itself has a very cozy atmosphere. There is also a great selections of beers to choose from and delicious cider during the fall and winter months. Stopped in on a Monday for happy hour around 6pm. I was looking for a place to meet my friend that was not too far from the subway station. After doing some research via Yelp I decided upon Uncle Barry's. Not only is it close to the subway station but happy hour lasts from 1-7pm, can't beat it! Upon walking in I was pleasantly greeted by the bartender. He was friendly and efficient. The music added to the stellar vibe of this place. I truly can't wait to go back even if by myself just to sit and appreciate the musical selections. My friend and I spent some time out back in the garden area as we indulged in our drinks. It was smaller than I had imagined...2 picnic tables and another small table. Even though the area was small it served its purpose on a hot summer day. Will definitely be returning! read more

You had me at six hours of happy hour. I was just along for the ride when my boyfriend walked us to this bar, so I was pretty (and pleasantly) surprised when we walked in and it was happy hour - and when I learned that happy hour is from 1 to 7 everyday with $2 off drafts. Uncle Barry's has an excellent beer selection, and the bonus of $2 off is a pretty sweet deal. (If we weren't there during happy hour, the $10 flights wouldn't have been so bad either.) We grabbed a few pints of new beers we'd never tried before and stayed for a few rounds. There was a decent crowd on a Thursday afternoon - busy enough for it to be interesting, but not too busy, so we were still able to find seats. The bar also has a nice little outdoor area with two picnic tables in back. Kind of a silly side note: There are two bathrooms - one marked by a picture of R2-D2, the other with a picture of C-3PO wearing a hat. (I don't think gender matters.) read more
