Fried beignets
Shane M.

The atmosphere was amazing and the staff were super friendly. The food was great. I really liked the bison. The waitress said not a lot of people order it. It may be from menu placement. It's worth a try if you're adventurous. The brûlée was average. My wife absolutely loved the short rib. I liked it and I'm not even a fan of balsamic vinegar. The beignets were good. Note for Chase Sapphire Reserve card holders... this restaurant is on the Open Table Reserve list, which can be a nice perk.

My friends and I came and got the filet, mashed potatoes, spaghettoni, and fruti di mare and everything was divine. Especially the filet and mashed potatoes - the filet mignon was cooked PERFECTLY and was seriously one of the most tender cuts I've ever had. Our server, Manuel, was phenomenal and so nice as well! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place, our entire experience was great!

Cute restaurant in the North End. Love the patio. Service was excellent. The drinks are amazing. 10/10 no notes, probably will come back only for drinks next time. The bread that comes out has a rosemary butter on the side, which is really good. Steak Meatballs (7/10): crispy on the outside. good but not the best meatball I've had. Streak Tartare (8/10): loved the texture of the chips it came with. flavorful. Mushroom risotto (6/10): usually love risotto but this missed the mark for me. Chocolate Cake (9/10): star of the show in my opinion Apple Pie (8/10): the pie part tasted like a churro, which was unique and delicious. In my opinion, it's a little overpriced for what you get but worth a visit if you're looking for a restaurant to try in the North End.

Papardelle was fine

Very very busy Valentines Day night. Great ambience but service was very slow so had high hopes for the food. I loved the Short rib caramelle and my BF had the Papardella Ragu pasta. Mine was fabulous and his was fine. I'd definitely consider returning on a slower night for the short rib caramelle.

Crowded In the bar side kinda empty on the dining side- but still took a while to get service and an order in. I enjoyed my lychee martini and beef tartar. The shrimp pasta has 3 shrimps and was ok, nothing ground breaking. Overall I think this fine but I probably won't come back.

Dined here last weekend for Dine Out Boston. I had read the negative reviews beforehand but the menu sounded delish so I still wanted to try it out myself :) I can see why some reviews are iffy, but overall I had a good experience. The good: -the filet mignon was SO good and cooked perfect! -the apps were good (tuna tartare and meatballs) -vibey & lively atmosphere -delish drinks The so-so: -the gnocchetti with wild boar was honestly kinda tasteless to me... needed more flavor or salt -service wasn't that slow, but they kept passing us by and forgetting things we asked for (server was nice though) -the apple pie was super hard. I feel like even if they were aiming for a crispy crust/dough it was too much, we reallyyyy had to stab at it lol It happened to be our anniversary too which I noted on the reservation. I wanted them to write happy anni on our plate like I saw in some photos lol so I told them it was our anni and they did :) I'm not sure if they would have acknowledged it otherwise. I can see why people may not 100% love it here since the food is a bit inconsistent, esp with how expensive it is. But overall I had a nice night and the dine out menu was a great deal (only $46/pp for all that food!) It's just not a spot I would frequent

Veal Parmesan

Wow, what an amazing experience we had at Umbria during our first visit to Boston! My boyfriend lived in Milan for a year and is very particular about Italian food. He says this is the best pasta he has ever eaten in the US. The veal Parmesan was equally phenomenal, and the service by Carlos, our waiter, was top notch. We were seated in a private corner of the restaurant , which is generally dark lit and upscale. Thank you Carlos for giving us an unforgettable experience in the North End!

For a friends birthday dinner, she chose this restaurant. It was a Wednesday night 7:30pm reservation for 8 people. They had large table ready for us upon arrival. The service started out great with getting us settled. We ordered an appetizer (fried seafood platter) until everyone arrived. Well seasoned and fried. Once everyone arrived it took quite some time before we were able to place our orders and get water, even though we requested it several times. Bread and butter finally arrived about 25 minutes in and so did the water. We placed our orders and had great convo until our food arrived as the atmosphere is great. Music was good, not too loud and lighting was great, perfectly dim, not too dark. About half of us enjoyed our meals of steaks, pastas, lobster mashed potatoes but a few of us not so much. 3 meals were barely warm and a few items came out incorrectly, not sure if they ran out of broccolini but we ordered 2 sides of it and got broccoli rabe instead which was bland and had a very bitter and different flavor profile. When asked about it, they said that's what they had without offering any explanation or options for us. Everyone loved their drinks. Great location and vibe, some minor tweaks on food temps and informing guests of substitutes in advance would be helpful. They do have valet parking and the cost was reasonable. I would give 3.5 stars if I could....

Overpriced cold food served after a long long wait. Go spend your money ANYWHERE ELSE in the north end.

First visit, Monday 4/20/26…read more Visiting Boston on a work trip, I had no idea the Marathon was today! Met 4 colleagues at The Red Fox for dinner, a recommendation from a friend of my colleague. Tough to find initially and very unsuspecting upon arrival. As you enter the front door (think like walking into a foyer of a small apartment building) you go down a flight of stairs into the restaurant. Then wow, this place is awesome! Small entry way into the restaurant with a hostess immediately greeting you. The bar is your first view of the place and it was packed. I'd describe it as dimly light, great atmosphere and ambience, almost a speakeasy feel. I'd recommend a reservation. The hostess walked us to our table, walking along the bar line with small 2-4 top tables to our left, we then turned left into the main dining room. 5 of us and we were seated at a horseshoe style table, plenty of room for up to 6 adults. Service was instant, she was friendly and very knowledgeable. We ordered cocktails and a couple apps. The drinks arrived along with bread service. They added small side plates with oils and olives, a nice touch. The cocktails were fantastic as was the homemade bread. A unique twist with my cocktail (kettle one & soda), was the single ice cube that was a long rectangle cube that was so clear you couldn't see it! The cubes length was the same as the tall glass it was served in and didn't melt. For dinner I listened to our server who recommended the Chicken Parmigiana with a chefs twist using a vodka infused sauce, this dish was amazing! My colleagues all shared the same feelings that this meal was spectacular. Highly recommend The Red Fox!

I've not only had many of the best drinks I've ever had in Boston here, but some of the best drinks I've ever had. The bartenders are also great at explaining things. The only cons are that it's hard to get tickets -- they do a prix fixe drink menu for which you buy tickets online, all included. But ti's hard to get them because they're so good! You should come expecting to drink perhaps more than you usually do (or at least than we do) -- say 3.5 drinks. So a taxi, rideshare, or public transit it the way to go. And the accompanying food is meant as a sidelight -- it accompanies the drinks, which are the focus. If you like inventive cocktails, this is the top place to try in Boston. Just don't expect a full meal (it's snacks) or great decor -- it's a small counter bar and that's about it. But the drinks, again, are always good and often amazing.

Totally worth the hype!…read more Came here for drinks with friends and was blown away with the creativity of the cocktails and the warmth of the staff. It wasn't particularly busy on a Sunday at 1pm, which was fine with us, and the other patrons were all middle aged (like us) or older; the youngest person was the bartender. The music wasn't blasting, there were hooks under the counter to hang your purse (which was much appreciated), and the gender neutral washroom was clean. The bar catered to beer drinkers, of course, and the only wine they offered was Pinot Grigio for $9 a glass, but it was nice and refreshing on such a hot day, and at least it wasn't something disgusting like Moscato. It really is very tiny, so just be aware that seating is sometimes limited. They didn't have too much on draft, thought some of that was due to the Scottish being in town for the World Cup the week before. We went with lemon drop shots, and the bartender was very transparent about the fact that he was out of most of his supplies due to the Scottish. No fault at all to them for that because that was the situation at every bar we went to. Service was friendly, the shot was nice and strong, and it was a nice little spot. Beyond drinking, there isn't really much going on in the bar in terms of activities, but there were TVs. So, watching sports here is definitely an option. I'd definitely say that this spot is worth popping in if you are enjoying a night on the town, but that it probably shouldn't be the only spot you go to.
