Sandy, one of the associates at this ULTA, did my entire face makeup - lipstick, foundation, bronzer, etc. She made me feel like a star and took her time with everything ( not to mention, her personality is awesome). Love this Ulta and definitely prefer it over the Lakewood location. Yes it is in Compton but the store is clean, big and looks nice. They always have whatever I need or went to check out in stock even if it's a new product. The male associate or manager (dont recall which he is) is always helpful as well in letting you know any promotions or freebies they have going on at the moment. I love this store, I live close by so I am there a lot, that being said, I needed a new foundation so I was trying some out when I was approached by the ONE person in the prestige section, apparently, she works for Benefit, so I explained to her that I've been wearing Benefit in champagne, and could she suggest a comparable shade in Too Faced or Tarte, also an opinion on which covers better, because when we get a little older, sometimes you have to switch it up, anyways, she made a face like I asked her to smell my shoe, and said , and I quote, " uuuuhhh, I don't know anything about those other products, but here are some sponges" extending her arm out as far as her shirt would permit as not to get too close to me, then explained where I could find more as she scurried away as fast as she could, leaving Scooby doo-Esque wind swirls behind her. I worked behind a Lancôme counter for 6 yrs. and I will tell you, I knew something about all of the other lines in the store. Down time+other girls = playing with make up, so, I am pretty sure she had a clue. I went to this Ulta because every other one I called to get my makeup done was booked and when I called I was nicely greeted by Mary she kindly asked me some brief questions on what type of makeup I would like and occasion and then set my appointment. I did happen to be a few mins late to my appointment but mary took me with no prob and let me just say this was the first time I have ever gotten my makeup done ever!! And I was not disappointed at all she did such a beautiful job that I will definitely be going back to her whenever I need my makeup done again and I just want to point out that Mary's customer service was also awesome and I can't wait to go back and have my makeup done when I need it. Booked appts over the phone for the salon for my kids to get haircuts and for haircolor and haircut for myself. I arrived like 30 minutes early and while waiting I realized I forgot something in the car so we ran out really quick to get it. Mary in the salon is awesome! She thought we were leaving and that no one had helped us so she actually came running out to check with me and make sure that was not the problem. She was very nice and I love that she went out of her way to do that. So once we came back in and were waiting, Mary started consulting with us on what we wanted done before our hairstylist (Princess) got there. I love that she was really knowledgeable on what to do with my kids hair especially my son's hair! She also consulted with me on my color and cut. Princess arrived and went over everything with me again, gave me suggestions on the cut and color I wanted as well as pricing on everything.She then began on my color first and while that was developing she cut my daughter's hair while Mary cut my son's hair. So, I went in thinking one stylist was going to work on all of us and we ended up with 2 - so awesome! Both ladies were really knowledgeable, knew how to work with my kids hair and were super friendly and personable. Both amazing ladies! My kids loved their haircuts, I LOVE the color and cut Princess did on my hair and would definitely go to her and Mary again! Disaster!! My Sister gifted me a Bold Brow Kit by Anastasia Beverley Hills and so the shade was too light. Thinking it was going to be an easy exchange I went to this Ulta on my way home.. Geeeez!! First off they wouldn't exchange it without the receipt even though it was a gift they said they couldn't or wouldn't unless I excepted the exchange at the lowest marketed price... In which she quoted me $5 which I thought was ridiculous for the brand!! I asked to go ahead and try the lowest price and then she came up with $23.00 and I said heck no! They wanted to verify if it was an Ulta product. I let her know that it was in fact exclusive to Ulta and she obviously had no clue... And said " Not that I'm aware of." Really?? Well she should get trained on at least Ulta's exclusive products!! This lady was blondish and looked silly with blue lipstick!! I totally felt like she was giving me a hard time on purpose. I felt discriminated. So I had my Sister send me a picture of the receipt and this polite gentleman and the cashier which was brunette with a dramatic slitted eyebrow finally agreed to the exchange.. They were professional and polite. So I left and at my car my husband opened the box and OMG!! The brush was missing!! So I went back in and they just exchanged it!! Thank God because I thought they were going to accuse me of stealing it!! Since the security guard was roaming around..My Gosh!! They really need to constantly check their merchandize and know exactly what they have!! The staff seems pretentious and lacking knowledge in their products. I recently visited store # 798 (1781 S. alameda at Compton, CA 90220) to purchase the Peter Thomas Roth birthday set. It was in stock but once again at checkout the free gift was not in stock. This has to be about the 3rd time this has happened to me at this location. I sometimes buy the product because of free gift and it some what seems like false advertising. When you purchase the sales associate excuse is "sorry we don't have it" hands you a receipt with an attitude gives you your and bag turns and walks away. Why is it all other stores always have the free gifts/samples in store but not at this location? Also I would not recommend this location to friends or family because they are unprofessional and ghetto. I never get any help at this location because the employees are too caught up in their own conversations or not paying attention to customers. It is closer to my house but I am thinking about driving further to the Lakewood location just for better customer service :( read more

The salon was terrible. I went in for a haircut and to straighten my hair. My hair is curly, long, and thick so it is difficult for a lot of people, but I thought well this is ulta so they should be able to handle my hair and I was wrong. First the salonist didn't even ask me what I wanted. She just went straight to washing my hair. I had to bring it up as she was trying to make conversations. Then she tells me "oh well if you want to flat iron it the cost is 65 because your hair is long and flat ironing is more" even though I had called ahead and they had told me flat ironing would be the same. So I said okay. I asked if a blow dry would be a different price, and she said yes that is a different price it would still be $38. I had received an offer for $25 so I wasn't expecting to pay too much. I mean it's just a haircut and hair style. Anyways for some reason the stylist had to use another dryer because the ones that ulta has for them don't work well. She takes the managers blow dryer and begin to blow dry my hair but halfway through my hair she had to give it back. So then she had to use an ulta dryer and that's when it got even worse. Another customer comes and asks if she could get her hair washed and dried. I've been here for about an hour and a half now. She somewhat dried my hair and then stuck me under the dryer machine so that she could start working on the other customer even though I had the appt. The stylist planned to complete the other customers at that point and just leave me there waiting for another hour but luckily the manager stepped in and told her to finish me first. Okay so now it's been two hours of me sitting here. Finally she starts flat ironing my hair but wasn't combing it through so by the end of it, my hair was tangled. Then I get home and I noticed one side of my hair was in layers but the other wasn't! Are you kidding! You had straightened it how could you not have noticed that! Aha terrible experience. It took me three hours and I paid 65 for terrible hair cut, tangled hair, and bad service. My hair now is more damaged then ever and its because of house she handled my hair. I get it blow drying and straightening does burn your hair but it has never been this bad. Even after washing it, it continued to smell burned. Thanks ulta I'll never get my hair done at any of these stores again. read more

Worst customer service ever!! Came in on a Friday which was pretty busy but all the working are huddled up in groups having weekend conversations and not greeting or attempting to help I came in looking for a new concealer I finally found someone to assist me and asked for her opinion I told her I currently use the tarte maracuja creaseless concealer and really wanted the shapetape but wasn't available in my color she proceeded to try something on my face raved about how good this product is one of the best sellers ect when I looked at my face after application it almost melted onto my skin and u couldn't tell I had anything on I asked to see the bottle and it was a primer!!! A primer!! Why would she rave about this product so much when I wasn't interested in a primer I personally think they need to train these people better or hire knowledgeable people primer and concealer are two completely different things!! Today when I entered the line Peter and two of his employees were huddled on an issue facing the rear counter with their backs toward the line. I walked up third and the other guests were already complaining about the rude service, I guess they'd been waiting a while. When one of the associates finally turned around and asked if the next person in line was ready there were two more people after me! The complaining guest went up and then the next woman was told that we were facing the wrong direction and that the line was to continue at the other end! Well the person in front of me scoffed and went next anyway. No one said anything. There were no signs. No order. Everyone simply did an about face and that put me at the back! When Peter, the manager, asked who was next I said I was but he shrugged his shoulders and took the next eager guest. Please have signs and procedures in place for guests to follow when you turn your backs and leave them to their own devices. read more
