He suggested this place in the West Village, but we couldn't get a table there at the time we wanted to go. Fortunately, I was able to find that they had another location in Midtown and we were able to get a table. I have never had Georgian food before and was excited to try it. From the second, we walked in our experience was excellent. The restaurant was very charming with a very chic feel. Our server was so gracious and helpful in explaining the menu. We tried several traditional dishes, and they were all out outstanding. The food was so flavorful. We had the eggplant rolls and the Adjaruli Khachapuri as an appetizer. Both were amazing! They left me wanting more. For the main course I had the Chanakhi (lamb stew). This dish was so delicious. The lamb was tender and the sauce was savoy, perfectly seasoned and had so much flavor. My daughter had the Shkmeruli (chicken with garlic sauce). This creamy garlic sauce was amazing. I need to figure out how to make it. My son had the Kupati (house made sausages). I can honestly saw these were some of the best sausages I've ever had. The flavor was so unique and delicious. My son's girlfriend, who is a vegan, had the cauliflower with walnut sauce. The cauliflower was roasted perfectly and the walnut sauce is like nothing I've ever had before. It was so creamy that it made me question whether or not it had dairy in it. Another hit. To finish it off, we had the Khinkali which are these huge soup dumplings with beef and pork filling. Our server told this traditionally they eat them at the end of a meal so we follow tradition. Fortunately, our server explained to us how to eat them by holding them upside down and taking a small bite and drinking the soup out. These were massive and more than I should've eaten after appetizers and a main course. Nevertheless, we enjoyed them thoroughly. I really enjoyed this restaurant and the experience. I felt like I experienced something new that I can't wait to come back to.

Unfortunately, we were a group of three, so we were seated a little awkwardly by the live music corner away from the rest of the dining room, though it didn't cause too many interruptions in our conversation. We were all intrigued by the Georgian lemonade option on the drink menu. They were more like flavored sodas. I had the cream, which tasted exactly like vanilla cream soda. I tried my friends' pear and tarragon, and would get the tarragon next time as it was nice and herbal to complement the cheesy heavy dishes to follow. We started with the beet salad with goat cheese, which came with a raspberry sauce. I sometimes find it off putting if the beet is too earthy and bitter, but the beets were done well, flavorful without being too strong. The salad was really refreshing and much needed to pair with our khachapuri, which we ordered with spinach and special smoked cheese. The presentation was fun, a little funny because the wait staff kept accidentally spinning the whole plate in their effort to mix everything in. I love cheese and bread, so this was a true highlight. For main, we had the megrhuli karcho, which was stewed beef in a walnut sauce served with Georgian grits cake. The beef was tender but honestly all of the starters stole the show and the walnut sauce wasn't that flavorful. I did like the gritty texture of the walnut sauce against slightly packed gritty texture of the grits cake, but my friend found it mushy and boring. If I go back, I would load up on the khachapuri and the salad.

The khinkali were juicy, flavorful dumplings with that perfect burst of broth inside. I am a big fan of brothy dumplings; however, the dough was slightly thicker than I usually like. Nonetheless, flavor was good. The Adjaruli khachapuri was definitely the star of the meal! It was warm, cheesy, and incredibly creamy. I loved that you can add an egg on top, which makes it even richer and gives it that perfect velvety texture when mixed together. The adjapsandali (eggplant dish) was also delicious, with a great balance of vegetables and a kick of various spices. Highly recommend trying this place at least once with a group of friends or family!

Luckily I was able to get a reservation ahead of time because the place was packed that night! I'm not too familiar with Georgian food, but many of the dishes on the menu looked so good. We decided on the mixed mushroom khinkali, thin crust megrelian khachapuri, pork mtsvadi skewer, and Mediterranean fish. The dumplings were stuffed full with mushrooms and I liked the thick dumpling skin. So different than dumplings I've had before. The flatbread was so unique topped with the pile of fresh herbs and pesto. It's a must order! The pork skewer was so juicy and flavorful. The fish was topped with a walnut sauce and my least favorite of the meal. Chito Gvrito is a perfect spot for a date night or a group meal. The dishes can easily be shared and definitely order one of the flatbreads!

I came away disappointed -- nothing on the plate tasted authentic. Both the salmon mtsvadi and the chicken tabaka tasted nerfed, like the spices had been dialed way down. What came through instead was mostly acidity -- heavy lemon and salt, across every dish, with none of the depth I was expecting. It would have helped if the dill and pomegranate had actually been part of the dish rather than sitting on the side as decoration. Maybe this is just an Americanized take on Georgian cuisine, but either way, I didn't like it. The ambience didn't help either. We were seated behind the bar, where the tables were packed in. The row of people seated at the bar were a bit rowdy, and the passage was so narrow we got bumped every few minutes.

Maya reminded me of a loving auntie that was happy you came to visit her and all she wanted to do was make you smile and serve you amazing food!! AND SHE SERVED US SOME REALLY AMAZING FOOD!!!!! This was our first time at a Georgian restaurant and it was KILLER!!! We ordered: *Borjomi which is a sparkling water that was slightly salty. It has an amazing fresh essence and reminded me of being at the edge of the sea and the fresh sea spray hitting you. It was perfect with the food! *Khinkali - I really LOVE dumplings and these were OUT OF THIS WORLD! The beef and pork blend was amazingly seasoned, tender and juicy, the broth inside the dumplings was warm and tasty. I even loved that they put some tips on the menu on how to eat them like a true Georgian and I took their advice and was in dumpling heaven! *Adjaruli - TRULY LOVED the tastiness of the this cheesy, eggy "bread bowl". When Maya brought this to our table she offered to stir it for us by blending the cheese and egg on top! WOOOOWWW!! There was literal toe curling happiness every time we ripped off a piece of the yummy warm bread and dipped it into the cheese and egg blend. So satisfying total comfort food!! *Lula Kebab - OH MY GODDDD TASTY! Litearlly the best lamb kebab I have EVER had. The lamb was tender, juicy and seasoned beautifully! The wrap it was in was soft, chewy and a perfect vessel to transport that yummy lamb into your mouth. We ordered this with the mashed potatoes and they were yummy as well!! Smooth, flavorful and just a buttery! :) If you have never had Georgian food...ODA HOUSE IS THE PLACE YOU WANT TO GO!! Trust me, your mouth, tummy and your heart will be happy!! :) ALSO....THANK YOU MAYA FOR BEING SUCH A LOVELY WOMAN and sharing your beautiful Georgian cuisine with us!! :)

I need more Georgian food in my life!…read more My husband and I came upon this restaurant during one of our neighborhood walks. We've been on a Middle Eastern kick lately, so the restaurant caught my eye. What sealed that deal, however, was their $45 Restaurant Week menu. I'm new to Restaurant Week, so I had my reservations about the program. I feared the meals would be scaled back in size, that we would walk out still hungry. How wrong I was. We left, bellies bursting at the seams with delicious food. Every single item was a standout. Each bite elicited praise. Our drinks were phenomenal, particularly their fruit juice, which I could only describe as the drink of the gods. It came as a pitcher with a whole sliced peach. It was sweet, light, and refreshing. The peach was so sweet, almost candied. I loved it so much. The vegetables in the qartuli salata were fresh. The vinaigrette had a wonderfully nutty aftertaste. The phkhali trio were herby and fresh, with a very, very slight bitterness, almost undetectable but just there, not dissimilar to sumac. The khachapuri was crispy yet tender, the cheese filling so creamy, so gooey, so salty. I loved this dish most of all. The salmon dish paired wonderfully with the mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes, and what I can only describe as a balsamic drizzle. My absolute star of the show, the ideali, was a marvel. The condensed milk frosting was so delicate and so were its layers of honey walnut sponge. I melted in my seat with each bite. It was unlike anything I've had before. It will be a dish I will long for. Oda House is a neighborhood gem. Come here, and you'll be thinking about it for a very, very long time.

Burnt butter or oil is not my fave, for smell or taste. They were a bit over seared in the pan. Without some mtsnili, pickled or brined veggies, something more acidic or probiotic, like pickled cabbage, fermented cucumbers, pickled green tomatoes, Jonjoli, or even Garlic, peppers, or wild herbs in vinegar,as a contrast on the plate? The dish became monotonous, heavy, and uninteresting, after a few bites. The Kazbegi Lager is very popular in Georgia, and it helped a bit, but it's not a particularly remarkable beer. Harmony and balance makes great food better. People come for the cheeseboats, the restaurant namesake, and khinkali, the classic soup dumplings. Most of the menu is meant to be shared. Perhaps best to return with 4-5 other people to properly experience it. Service was pleasant, and prompt. Waiter should probably ask if you want to take extra home. There's a lightly methane odor that is unfortunately second nature to old buildings in Hell's Kitchen. Doesn't help the food's appeal much either.

The eggplant and salad both came outburst and both were good in terms of size and flavor. The salad had a good dressing which complimented it and did not overpower it. The eggplant was really good but would've been better with bread, so we requested bread and it was an additional charge and some pieces were very chewy and a bit hard to chew. The baked good came out afterwards and it was a combo between a pizza and phyllo dough. The portion size was really good and the flavor was decent albeit a bit bland.
