Salmon Mtsvadi
Mike H.

I've had my fair share of Georgian food, and after reading the reviews, I went in with high hopes for the three-course Restaurant Week menu. I came away disappointed -- nothing on the plate tasted authentic. Both the salmon mtsvadi and the chicken tabaka tasted nerfed, like the spices had been dialed way down. What came through instead was mostly acidity -- heavy lemon and salt, across every dish, with none of the depth I was expecting. It would have helped if the dill and pomegranate had actually been part of the dish rather than sitting on the side as decoration. Maybe this is just an Americanized take on Georgian cuisine, but either way, I didn't like it. The ambience didn't help either. We were seated behind the bar, where the tables were packed in. The row of people seated at the bar were a bit rowdy, and the passage was so narrow we got bumped every few minutes.

This experience was hands down my favorite this summer. First time trying Georgian food and might I say it blew me away. First let's talk about the service. My waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, he was super friendly and suggested a lot of things to us. Was very patient as he understood it was our first time. I had a lot more food but forgot to take a picture . Everything I had i enjoyed and the bread was out of this world. Will definitely come back to try more food. The service needs a raise. So sad that I forgot his name but bravo!!!!!

We came here for restaurant week and had a great experience! It was quiet when we arrived around 5:30, but filled up quickly by 7. It ended up being quite noisy, but not too loud to have a conversation. The restaurant is quite small and gets tight when full, but it's cozy. Our server was kind and attentive. Georgian wine was very nice. We were all extremely impressed with our appetizers and entrees. The cheese pie was extremely delicious and we were all fascinated by how amazing the salad was. The tomato in it was so juicy, we almost craved it for dessert, and none of us are really tomato people! We had the pork, the steak skewers, and the sausage for our entrees. The entrees were somewhat small portions, but maybe that's just restaurant week. The desserts were not really our taste, but I know others on Yelp have really enjoyed them. We want to return and try many other items!

What a hidden neighborhood gem! I've walked past Chito Gvrito many times and decided to finally try it for a weekend dinner. Luckily I was able to get a reservation ahead of time because the place was packed that night! I'm not too familiar with Georgian food, but many of the dishes on the menu looked so good. We decided on the mixed mushroom khinkali, thin crust megrelian khachapuri, pork mtsvadi skewer, and Mediterranean fish. The dumplings were stuffed full with mushrooms and I liked the thick dumpling skin. So different than dumplings I've had before. The flatbread was so unique topped with the pile of fresh herbs and pesto. It's a must order! The pork skewer was so juicy and flavorful. The fish was topped with a walnut sauce and my least favorite of the meal. Chito Gvrito is a perfect spot for a date night or a group meal. The dishes can easily be shared and definitely order one of the flatbreads!

Delicious Georgian food. We came as a group and asked the waiter to recommend dishes to share. Everything recommended was delicious. We were able to try a little bit of everything, and it was overall delicious. The portions were a little smaller than I expected, but the food overall was delicious and we were very happy to try a bit of each dish and experience some delicious Georgian cuisine. The inside was full, and we had a reservation, but we had to wait 10ish minutes,s which wasn't too bad. I think my favorite was the fish; the texture was great, and the flavor was great. I also loved the cheese-filled pie. Who doesn't like cheese! Would definitely recommend if you're interested in trying some Georgian food or just some delicious food in general!

Had high expectations for this restaurant reading through some of these reviews , but the experience was a little mixed bag We stared w the house bread and e the Georgian pickles - both were good (not excellent ) BUT the portions were quite small (5 small pieces of picked cucumber , not even a full one ?). We then got the khachapuri adjeroli , which was quite yummy. It again fairly small for 20$. We got the duck filled grape vine leaves which were very good but small (2 leaves for 20$) and a full portion of cheese and spinach dumplings - while the filling was good the dough felt a little undone , and again very SMALL portion All together it was disappointing given the portions and the price you pay for them , some generosity will take them a long way . The flavours were pretty good

The dumplings and stuffed bread were both really delicious! The food was very interesting and unique, and it was a great way to try something different. Definitely recommend!

Tabaka chicken + potato and mushroom ojakhuri

Georgian cuisine has become a lot trendier in Manhattan over the past few years, and I'm thrilled. We stopped by Chito Grivto for Restaurant Week on a Thursday evening. The cozy, charming spot on Third Avenue welcomes diners with soft lighting and quiet jazz, while the menu covers dishes from across the country. The Restaurant Week menu was a great bargain at $45: Our appetizers - Adjaruli khachapuri (fresh baked bread boat filled with Georgian sulguni cheese + butter, topped with an egg / Lobiani stuffed flatbread (spiced mashed beans + shallots + herbs) The mains - Tabaka brick chicken (grilled chicken in a white wine garlic sauce) / Potato mushroom ojakhuri (potatoes + mushrooms + wine + herbs + pomegranate) The desserts - Ideali cake (honey walnut caramel layer cake) / Zesty drunken almond cake (almond citrus sponge cake + brandy cream sauce) Each dish was excellent, with the khachapuri the best of the bunch, while service, even on a busy evening, was friendly and attentive

We came here for dinner during restaurant week. For the first course, we had the Adjaruli khachapur, which is a mixed cheese pie with farm eggs and butter, and the beef & pork khinkali. I absolutely loved the flavor of the dumpling filling, but the dough was quite thick. For the second course, we tried the shrimp walnut kharcho and potato mushroom ojakhuri. Both dishes were comforting and well-balanced. And lastly for dessert, we had the ideali cake and the zesty drunken almond cake (which was my favorite!)

Restaurant "week" is a misnomer. It's actually a month, and a wonderful opportunity to try restaurants you may be curious about. I'll start by saying that while I like Chito Gvrito there were a couple of things that irked me: a) the online menu is different than what you're handed in the restaurant. Similar yes, but not as substantial. b) A review written recently during restaurant week, touted Chito Gvrito's bread service with seasoned chickpeas and what she considered a delicious spread. We wanted it, and were prepared to pay extra. Our server -- a very nice person -- said it wasn't available, but lobiani is pretty close. It wasn't. None of us liked it. Dry, dense and tasteless. I should have gone with aubergine rolls instead. Now for the good: Appetizers are large enough to share. Definitely order Adjaruli Khachapuri, an open-faced cheese pie topped with an egg that the waitress mixes at the table. Khinkali, beef and pork soup dumplings, are okay. They could use more soup. The dumpling itself is like a pierogi, with skin thicker than Chinese soup dumplings. Tabaka brick chicken -- listed as half a spring chicken -- was juicy and nicely grilled with a lovely light sauce. My husband's Mtsvadi pork was well-seasoned and recommended. $4 upcharge. One gets a choice of three desserts. Gozinaki yogurt didn't interest us so we ordered traditional honey cake (Ideali) and Zesty Drunken Almond Cake. When they say "drunken" they mean it, with a generous pool of brandy cream sauce. Speaking of alcohol we each ordered an $11 glass of Georgian wine, which is served in individual carafes. Thumbs up for the Binobiza red, a rich semi-sweet wine, and white Kisi. Open for lunch with a $30 restaurant week menu; $45 for dinner.

I had a brunch here with a bunch of girls that it was our first time meeting (shoutout Girls Who Meet). Chito Gvrito was chosen by the group creators and it did not disappoint. The food was very fresh and everyone enjoyed their food! We had coffees and teas, but they had a full bar. It was a very clean restaurant and our waitress was very nice. I would def recommend checking out this restaurant and would go again.

Pork & Beef Khinkali Dumplings

It was my first time trying Georgian food, and I really enjoyed it! My partner and I ordered the Adjaruli which was deliciously rich and soooo cheesy. The Pork & Beef Khinkalli came out around the same time piping hot. The baby lamb chops were solid, and we really enjoyed the pairing with the adjika sauce. We also enjoyed a carafe of white wine which complimented the food nicely. All in all, I'm happy we came!

First time having Georgian food and wow Chito Gvrito didn't disappoint. My sister and I were dining here for Restaurant Week dinner and there was plenty of food for the prix fixe menu. We started with the bread service plate that came with seasoned chickpeas and this really delicious spread. I definitely could have had another plate of that how good it was. My sister got the eggplant aubergine rolls and I got the soup dumplings for apps. The eggplant rolls were so delicate and the sauce it came with was very complementary to the eggplant. The soup dumplings had a nice light yet rich broth. The dumpling dough was soft and thicker than the Chinese kind. It reminded me close to a pierogi dough texture. I would get those again for sure. For the second app we shared a Georgian cheese boat khachapuri which had rich and creamy cheese with a pad of butter and egg mixed in right in front of you. It was my favorite part of the meal. The cheese was so stretchy and the egg and butter enhanced the flavor profile of the dish. For my main I got the mtsvadi pork served with a tasty plum sauce, onilns and a side of potatoes. So tender and delicious. For drink I got the zero proof virgin Italiano who can was nice and floral. For dessert we shared the pelamushi grape pudding and the ideali cake. Both were unique and not too sweet. The restaurant would be great for a nice dinner date or treat for yourself. The space between the bar and tables can be a little tight, but it wasn't too bad for us. Service was also great and we would definitely be back in the future.

Do you offer lunch?

I had a business lunch meeting at Chito Gvrito, they serve all the traditional Georgian dishes for lunch. It's a great spot in Gramercy to go to if you are looking for a amazing food and incredible service.

How are the vegetarian options here?

The main exciting thing to get at a Georgian restaurant is the khachipuri (various types of cheese bread), so that'll work with a vegetarian dietary preference. You should be good with appetizers as well. I think pretty much all the appetizers are…

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

We went with wines by the glass and I appreciated the confidence of the menu: it was small enough to not feel overwhelming, yet curated to have something for every palate and preference. My first glass was an unfiltered orange wine from the Alsace region of France (Tout Terriblement Maceration). It was funky and almost pithy in texture, with notes of apple and apricot. Definitely great if you're looking for something a little intense and off the beaten path. For my second glass, I felt like a lighter red, so I went with the Puszta Libre, a chilled Zweigelt from Austria. While it was slightly more standard than my first glass, I loved its funky nose and red and tropical fruits. I can't remember exactly what my husband had, but he loved his drinks, too. I remember one of his glasses smelled intensely of salty buttered popcorn. We weren't going to order any food, but the couple next to us had the chocolate lava cake and it smelled SO good, so we decided to go for it.
