    Georgian salad

I've been here several times, but this was by far my most disappointing visit. The food has always fallen a bit short of the authentic flavors I've enjoyed at other Georgian restaurants--especially Tbilisi--but what bothered me most this time was the lack of attention from the service staff. We were the only customers in the restaurant, yet the server seemed completely disengaged. I waited and waited for a simple water refill, and no one came by until I finally had to get their attention myself. That's simply unacceptable. Overall, I'd give the service and food 3 stars, and the ambiance 3.5 stars. Despite its convenient location in my neighborhood, I won't be returning.

Had a great visit! I've had Georgian food only once before, but really enjoyed it! First the food: ordered the standard, cheeseboat, khinkali (dumplings), and cauliflower in walnut sauce. All were very yummy! I don't know if it was better than other time, but standalone it tasted great. The cheeseboat is indulgent but worth every bite. I loved the cauliflower too. The dumplings were a bit doughy but good. Now I also had some wine that was recommended, and the fantastic server also gave us samples to decide! The vibe: didn't expect this gorgeous outdoor space, but on a nice spring day, it was just perfect. The interior is super well decorated too. The service: great! Everyone was friendly and super helpful. A great georgian option in Midtown, esp on a nice day out!!

Food (3/5): The dishes are very nicely presented but could improve flavorwise. For example, the chicken stew was a bit bland while the dumplings had way too much breading relative to the meat flavor. The cheeseboats that are similar to pizzas are good but also could use better flavoring and something was a bit off. Service (4/5): Overall very friendly and nice service. We had one issue whereby my friend ordered the cheeseboat with spinach but then they told us we didn't. Later on we saw the check and in fact spinach was in there on the check! Ambiance (5/5): Nice beautiful restaurant with solid amount of seating. Very upscale and sophisticated vibe.

    Vodka cocktail was super sweet.

First time trying Georgian food in this neighborhood newbie. My chicken entree was pretty tasty. The dumplings were disappointing, dough skin was too thick and the meat was salty and dense. The waitstaff was attentive but had limited English. The ambiance is spacious and clean.

I spent a year living in Georgia the country and can attest that Ubani is a great spot to try authentic Georgian food in a convenient, midtown location. Their menu has many traditional Georgian staples, and friendly employees. I've been twice. The first time I got 4 beef and pork khinkali to-go and appreciated that they were large, juicy, and flavorful! The only thing I forgot to ask for was pepper. The second time I dined in and shared lobiani, Georgian salad, mushroom khinkali, and shrimp with a friend and we enjoyed everything. The mushroom khinkali doesn't have much broth in it, but was still very flavorful. Overall I'd highly recommend, and can wait to come back!

Excellent Georgian food! Came here with family who were visiting and they absolutely loved this spot. Our server Mariam was so great as well. Definitely recommend the potato khachapuri. The interior of this place was also really nice, would be a great spot for a group dinner.

We wanted to try something new and had never had Georgian food before. Since we live in the area, we decided to walk in. We didn't have a reservation, and it was just the two of us. The hostess was accommodating, but the table available for us was between two other tables for two and felt very cramped. Since that was the only table available, we decided to sit at the bar instead. It turned out to be a great choice. Nicho was the bartender. He was extremely helpful. He guided us through some Georgian wine and beer selections and even introduced us to their pre-dinner shot of chacha. Since there were only two of us, we ordered three dishes: the Spring Salad with Georgian cheese, khinkali (beef and pork dumplings), and the Adjaruli khachapuri. All were incredibly flavorful and great choices for first-timers.

Update to previous rave reviews. Splendid long, luxurious time having lunch with friends, tried new dishes. Georgian specialty walnut sauce, in various iterations, went splendidly with beef, lamb and cauliflower entrees. Chicken soup appetizer was food for the soul. Standout dessert was extremely dense/rich/luscious chocolate creme. Servers gracious and welcoming. Love how clean, bright but not dazzling - just perfect - the space is.

I'm so glad that we discovered Ubani. My husband and I wanted a meal that we couldn't have at home. Enter Georgian food! We made a reservation, but I don't think we needed to for lunch. It's a small space, but they have a lot of tables. They have a lunch special where you can get three items each for $30, and the portions are so big that we could barely finish the third one. It's really a great deal. Everything was fantastic, fresh, and different. Even if it's something we've had before, like borsht, they make it with their own special flare. I loved the cheesy bread and the meat dumplings. We left so satisfied and I would love to go back one day! Don't forget about trying their Georgian lemonade! I tried the tarragon flavor and it was superb.

Everything was very good. Kachapuri of course - buttery and egg-y when mixed. Shkmeruli - garlic chicken. Rich and creamy but a little salty and very garlic-y. Beef/pork khinkali - normally I would forego it because it is essentially a giant version of Chinese xiaolongbao (soup dumpling) but I wanted to taste the difference. It was giant indeed. Beef stew - tomatoes and herbs are a nice touch to the tender beef. Highlight: appetizer plate had cheese, eggplant roll, and assortment of spread, all different flavors - spinach, leek, pumpkin(?), and beet. cottage cheese with mint was interesting. We went on a Thursday evenings 6 pm ambiance very quiet and we got the best seat in the house. As the night went on it got crowded. Service was good, waiter very nice to explain and provide recommendations. I do have to say price is a little steep but it's a nice dinner.

This place hits on all cylinders - Food, service and vibe including bonus entertainment on Sat night. Energetic place. I had the Adjaruli Khachapuri which was very tasty. The bread was as fresh as can be. I sat at the bar and the bartender was pleasant and friendly offering suggestions and color commentary. I've been here a few times and will definitely come back again. Cheers!

I really enjoyed my total experience in this restaurant. The staff were very attentive and helpful. They even asked you of the available tables which one would you prefer. The ambience was relaxed, and the decoration was clean modern and not noisy. Small accents in each area and or tables. The food was very really good. I suggest to share a plate , for me it was a lot a food. Thank You to sever Nutsa! Thank you for your attention to detail, follow up. Wonderful suggestion and overall excellent experience.

The khinkali were juicy, flavorful dumplings with that perfect burst of broth inside. I am a big fan of brothy dumplings; however, the dough was slightly thicker than I usually like. My plan was simple, go to Cheeseboat on Friday night, order a Khachapuri and some Khinkali, and…read morecall it an evening. When I got to the Williamsburg location and observed the door locked, lights off, and the interior like nobody was there (with no indication there would be no one coming), I was crestfallen. This restaurant defined popular Georgian food. It is one of the reasons I make a trek out to a neighborhood that I would not otherwise dare set foot in for more than an extended period of time. When I observed they also have a Manhattan location, I figured, okay, try them out, what the hell, maybe it will be fine. Three subway lines later (okay, I could have done it in two), and here is the result. Firstly, the service is amazing. The entire wait staff is warm, welcoming, intelligent, and passionate about what is served out of their kitchen. Liza may not be working here (or at least was not there during the time I was here), but the service is still first rate. Secondly, the interior space is more intimate than the Williamsburg location. It feels more Manhattan-y than Williamsburg-y, if that makes sense. Now that I got the non-food stuff out of the way, here comes the part you came for, the meal. I ordered five things here. You will see why later, it will make sense to you by the end. Khachapuri: My new favorite snack is a must at any Georgian restaurant. To say this is a calzone or a stromboli is being condescending to this lovely cheeseboat (had to do it). It is a little on the small side, but the cheese and texture is beautiful and I never once had to pick up a fork to eat it. Your server will even mix everything for you if you ask. Grade: A- Khinkali: Six to an order, just like at the Williamsburg location, they are tasty, but it is looser. They fall apart too quickly upon that first nibble. I know not to eat the knot, because when my server took my plate away after I was done eating them, he smiled wryly at me, knowing I did it right. Grade: B Chakapuli: Probably the weakest thing I ordered, the lamb is tasty, but also super fatty and super tender. I deliberately did not eat the sauce and some of the other bits because of the richness and the onions that were at the bottom of the dish. The fact it comes with two nice pieces of bread helps mitigate things, but I played it smart by just taking the big stuff and using the bread as a binder. Grade: B- Kharcho: A staple at any Georgian restaurant, this is essentially Lagman soup, but they use rice instead of noodles as their carb weapon of choice. The lamb is beautiful and the broth has a beautiful aroma and fragrance. It also comes with two nice pieces of bread to really soak in more flavor. This balanced out the out of balance Chakapuli. Grade: B+ Georgian White Wine Flight: Yes, I got a flight, four glasses of the restaurant's finest white wines. I had a glass for each of the meals that I ate. Each wine has its own character. My server even gave me a suggestion on how to go about drinking them. I know very little about wine, so I will not go much further than this. However, each wine I tasted, tasted better than the previous one. I do know Georgia is known for its wine, and by the end of the flight, I was starting to see why... maybe. Grade: A- That is not all. I also ordered a Honey Cake for dessert, because I know all too well that honey is the great equalizer in all things savory. This will put it all in its place, like Godzilla restoring the balance in an inhumane world. Honey Cake: One bite told me all I needed to know. It is outstanding. Well balanced, terrific flavor, outstanding texture, ridiculously, out of bounds in terms of how it should look and feel. This dessert may have ruined all things dessert for me for the time being. It is simply the best way to end a meal, and to go out on a high note. Grade: A+ -- Some of you may be saying, why would you do this? Why would you go all the way out here for this? 1.) Because I can, 2.) The experience is largely outstanding, and 3.) It is not always about those two, it is the adventure, and eating what I ate here gave me a sense of adventure, from start to finish. Stay classy Cheeseboat, I know you will be just fine until the Williamsburg location reopens, if it ever does. If not, your Manhattan location will do you justice.

The eggplant and salad both came outburst and both were good in terms of size and flavor. The salad had a good dressing which complimented it and did not overpower it. The eggplant was really good but would've been better with bread, so we requested bread and it was an additional charge and some pieces were very chewy and a bit hard to chew.
