Austin has Nashville hot chicken!!! And it does not disappoint if you like spice (OR if you just like chicken). Amazing people working here! We were greeted upon walking up and seated immediately by a friendly face. Not your typical "dine-in" restaurant, it's more of a small, intimate place with the food prep going on close by meaning you get your food FAST. Our waiter gave us time to look over the menu and helped us understand the spice levels. Spice: I would call myself and AVERAGE lover of a little spice. I don't shy away, but I'm not looking for the hottest food where I can't enjoy a meal. I got the "dang hot" and it was perfect. My boyfriend does NOT do spice (not 0 tolerance, but always orders at least one or two levels below me for food) and got the "hot" which is one level up from wimpy. Both were perfect for our tolerances ... Cluckin hot would be a pretty big jump and more than I could handle, I think. Now onto the food itself. The chicken was obviously the main event, and was very juicy. Other than the spice, the seasoning wasn't quite enough for what I wanted but still solid (hence the 1 star off). I got the collard greens and, being from the south, they were ok (mostly tasted like bacon, so can't complain). And last but not least, the mac and cheese was GOOD. Now...when I say it was good...mac and cheese might be my favorite food and I'm VERY picky about it. That being said, this wasn't "baked" mac (which is my holy grail) - however, this was the best mac and cheese I've had in the "non-baked / no crust on top" category. High praise. We finished off with the caramel chocolate pecan pie (recommended by our waiter) with whipped cream on top. We got it to-go and WOW!!! No photo became we ate it so fast, highly recommend. They took forever to attend us-- Our waiter was nowhere to be found after our initial contact w/ them so someone else took our order. I assume our initial waiter got upset that we asked for another waiter (even though we waited for a while to get our order taken) but everyone else that came in (to the restaurant) after us got their orders and we didn't get anything. Day road trip to Austin and had to find a local eatery that a friend raves about. My husband and I shared a 1/2 chicken basket (4 pieces: breast, wings, thigh, and leg) with a heat level of "hot". We asked for cheese-covered fries and coleslaw for our sides. The chicken is battered and deep fried and then sauce is poured on it. It has bread and butter pickles stuck on top with a toothpick. The meat inside had seasoning too so I'm not sure if they inject seasoning or soak it for the flavor to get inside the meat. So the hot flavor was all the way through it from the batter to the meat. In my opinion, the batter was too thick and I actually pulled a lot of mine off and just ate the meat inside. The spice was a little too much for us. We wished we had just went with the "wimpy" heat level. We asked for the comeback sauce with our chicken...it was a nice creamy coolness that put out the fire from the hot chicken. The comeback sauce was a thousand island and horseradish mixture...yum! The fries had a spicy cheese sauce and you could actually taste a jalapeño flavor on it. SWEET. even when I was in a bad mood he was able to lighten it up. Our food came in like less than 10 minutes, and again, it tasted heavenly. Best fried chicken I've ever had! It's juicy, crispy and great smothered in Crystal hot sauce. This being said, if you're looking for authentic southern style fried chicken, I'd look elsewhere. Space: This place is a mix of in door and outdoor seating, but I've never had to wait more that 25 minutes for a table inside. The staff is so friendly and the food comes out 10 minutes after ordering. Food: You really can't go wrong here. I got the 1/4 dark meat fried chicken with mac and cheese and collard greens and I left no crumbs. The Mac is hot and gooy and the greens are well seasoned. They also never miss on the chicken. It's always, and I mean ALWAYS juicy on the inside crispy on the outside. To drink, I got a prickly pear lemonade (lil tip: they have a bunch of syrups so you can get a variety of lemonade flavors) If you're looking for a lighter option, I recommend the half Cobb salad. It has everything from creamy deviled eggs to crispy bacon and chicken. Pricing: This place is very fair on pricing for what you get. The 1/4 dark and two sides cost me $8.95 and with the lemonade and tip, my meal cost me roughly $15. Highly recommend visiting if you're in Austin. read more

I ordered the 3 tendies, hot, and a half and half sweet iced tea. Turns out both of my choices were winners. The tea was just sweet enough and the tendies were just hot enough. This rating is based purely on a takeout order! Easy to order online, fast and easy curbside pickup. We got the 8 piece meal that comes with coleslaw for $22. My non-bougie self is used to KFC's 8 piece meal for that price that comes with TWO sides you can choose, whereas this only comes with a set one side of coleslaw not sure if you can substitute. However, the chicken is maaaaaassive and more than made for the difference in number of sides. The breast pieces we had were the size of dinner plates. The quality of the meat was delicious and juicy and the skin, while a bit greasy, still stayed intact and had crunch. The flavor was awesome and we got the first spice level above mild which was perfect for us. They do serve it with pickles as well. The coleslaw was fine- nothing to write home about though. Based on other reviews I am definitely going to have to try the other sides. If I wanted to nitpick I would say they could up the takeout game with better containers- they use the plain white styrofoam square ones so they've had to use multiple to fit all the chicken which is a waste of styrofoam and not an awesome presentation.
