Happy Chick
Claudine L.

Quick bite to eat at this small chicken shack. I got the happy chick which consisted of 3 tenders choice of original or spicy fries and one extra side; I chose a side of Mac and cheese. The tenders were very crispy and fresh. The tenders were seasoned well. I opted for the spicy tenders however, they were not spicy at all. I liked the flavor of the white Mac and cheese but unfortunately it was served Luke warm. The fries were good (I like battered fries). They have a lot of sauce options. I had the honey mustard which was delicious (tasted home made) and garlic ranch (good but wasn't super garlicky as I hoped). Overall this was a nice little quick meal and if I come back to town I would come back.

10/10 this place hit the spot for my chicken tender craving Tenders: quality white meat chicken, no weird gristle or tendons, meat was tender and seems like they fried it just for my order Fries: well seasoned and crispy, can't ask for anything more Mac and cheese: good cheese flavor, I liked it Wish they had prices on the menu- my plate came out to $11 after tax and tip which I think is fine for how quality each piece of my meal was

So good. This is the spicy/hot chicken. Wasn't nashville spicy, but it had a good kick. I wish they gave more fries.

I'd recommend trying once to cross it off the list. Overall the quality is good but I wouldn't be coming back. Here's why. 1. The spicy isn't spicy at all. I'm now curious to see the difference between the regular and spicy. 2. But not curious enough to pay these insane prices. Seriously this is the most I've ever paid for 3 tenders and a chicken sandwich. And while good, there really wasn't anything special or unique about it that warranted such outrageous prices. 3. Service sucked. For these prices and having the word happy in your name, I expect joker smiles and energy. The dude did not smile, nor ask us if it's our first time, or explain the menu, or engage in any form. I get it, it's chicken tenders, I can figure it out but I have a feeling the sauces are a big selling point and may be the special thing about this place? Wouldn't know from this guy. 4. After looking at the many sauces and not receiving too much guidance, we decided on our safety ones - jalapeno ranch and chipotle ranch. Jalapeno ranch was pretty good. Chipotle ranch was a bit runny and the consistency did not work with the tenders. I saw some cool ones like Raspberry chipotle and avocado poblano but didn't get to try them. Overall, it's worth trying once. But I'm sticking to Chick-fil-A for my spicy sandwiches for over half the price and triple the taste and T22/Popeyes for spicy tenders.

Really good chicken and I really liked they would let you add an additional tender in place of a side. Unfortunately I did that and instead they served with fries, which I did not want. I'll try them again but will check the order before leaving.

A friend recommended Happy Chicks to me and while I love trying new places I didn't think a trip across town to another chicken restaurant was necessary. There are fried chicken joints seemingly on every corner. Why drive out of the way? Well, I'm glad I made the trip. This entrant to the "chicken wars" is a worthy addition to the conversation. Everything on my plate was worth the price and I left nothing uneaten. The portions were on point. The fried chicken truly reminded me of childhood memories of the old chicken joints (KFC, Church's, etc.) when they were actually good...not the bloated, unreliable, and bland versions that exist today. Unlike Flyrite, Happy Chicks is the real deal. A new and fresh take on the chicken restaurant. I'll be back.

When we were finally approached the lady that approached us was nice and attentive. Our waitress was nice and friendly but she was manning a lot of tables for some reason. The food was pretty but ok. I got the original pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs. The pancakes came with strawberries, blueberries, bananas and syrup. The syrup was mixed with butter and it was a little too much butter which was off putting if you don't like a lot of butter. The pancakes were fluffy looking but tasted like a version of jiffy cornbread. I ate the fruit. The eggs were not scrambled really. I just felt like they put them in a bowl, scrambled with fork and put them on the grill but forgot to scramble them a little bit to cook the top of the eggs and then plated. The top of eggs was wet. I'm not a fan of raw eggs which happen to come out after I was done trying the pancakes and fruit. The ambiance was pretty in teal the music was perfectly light. It was my Birthday and I wanted pictures of all and everything that I ate it didn't disappoint in that aspect but they should water the plants.

We came here for a birthday specifically for the 100 Hour Marinated ribeye for my friend. She had been talking about it for weeks. Unfortunately, the night we came to celebrate, it was not available. She was crushed. I jokingly said "we can go somewhere else". I'm guessing the server thought I was serious because later the chef came to our table and offered her a special treat. It was very nice of them. She ended up with the Redfish special and she liked it. But it was a huge disappointment anticipating this dinner for weeks. My dinner on the other hand exceeded expectations. I had not been here for many years. I don't recall the House-made veggie burger being on the menu previously. I tried it. It was excellent. Brown rice, mushrooms, beets, jack cheese, and other goodies. The avocado basil slather was perfection. It's not easy to find a really good veggie burger these days. So many places try to make them taste like meat. This was a true old school Veggie Burger - such a treat. Our server was attentive and was really great. Drinks were good. Margarita was very tasty.

Even now as it's been Bartlett's for many years, you can still feel some of that Houston's DNA in the atmosphere and menu. The vibe lands somewhere between upscale casual and classic steakhouse. It reminded me a bit of those old-school Steak and Ale-type places. It's a step above casual dining chains like Applebee's or TGI Fridays, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as Austin's highest-end spots like Uchi. It's more of a polished, comfortable place that still feels approachable. The dining room has a warm, almost wine-cellar feel, with exposed brick and fairly low lighting. When we visited on a weeknight it was packed, so I highty recommend making a reservation. The crowd seemed to be a mix of business dinners, client meetings, and people celebrating occasions. We were there for my mom's birthday, which felt like a perfect reason to go. It's the kind of place that works well for a special dinner, a date night, or entertaining clients. Everything we ordered was excellent. The Hickory Smoked Salmon appetizer was a great start, and the French Dip and the Chimichurri Steak Sandwich were worth getting again. They also brought out a dessert for my mom's birthday that everyone at the table enjoyed. Service was friendly and professional throughout the meal.

It is a sports bar It has a million attractive wonderful aspects. It has a million pain in the neck aspects. Everything is a good news bad news joke. But the good news is pretty good. * * * I ran into the bad news right upon entering the restaurant. There was not a comfortable table to sit at anywhere in the restaurant except at the bar. Benches were so low that it was like being a four year old at the grown up table. I would have needed a telephone book to reach the table. Regular chairs don't face the TV so you have to crane your neck to see the sports. Comfortable curved sofa benches exist, but they are 500 miles from the TV. So I tried seat after seat after seat before ending up at the bar. The bar was okay. * * * The bar choices are ample and slim. There were surprisingly thin offerings on beer. There were WONDERFUL listings on bourbon and rye. I am a rye drinker, so I was in hog heaven. The tequila listings were pretty good too. Gin drinkers, scotch drinkers and vodka drinkers were just going to have to take what was available. The cocktail menu was about average. I was in a golden cloud of glory with all my choices. Angel's Envy Rye is first rate libation that is simultaneously fiercely peppery and sublimely smooth. Rough on the taste means usually means rough going down. This was BDSM with the grace of a feather. I was in love. * * * Chile con carne was a beautiful chili with brisket rather than the usual hamburger. Flavoring was superb. The brisket chunks were three times as big as you would comfortably want to put in your mouth all at once. You don't want to take a fork and knife to a bowlful of chili. So I was struggling to eat my meat all night while at the same time admiring the quality of the recipe. Cover 3 Kitchen Preppers: How much extra work is it really to cut your meat into manageablely sized pieces? * * * Garlic Mashed Potatoes had a picture of garlic walked in front of the potatoes while they were boiling. Garlic? What garlic? The handful of mouthfuls with butter were good. The rest was empty starch. * * * The human beings working the bar were fantastic. Two of the nicest and most helpful ladies working in the bartending trade. Good people count for a lot in a restaurant. * * * The sports televisions were great. Watching Duke eke out a one point win over Louisville in women's basketball was good times. * * * Then comes the dessert. Dark clouds. The brownie with three scoops of ice cream, candied pecans, and caramel sauce tasted fantastic. It was an irresistible end to a meal. But brownies should really really not be the size of a big box store. Remember from English class - "Enough! No More! Tis not so sweet now as it was before." The brownie was three to five times the size of a regular brownie - and this was before all the extra stuff was put on top of it. It was super rich and super good the way brownies are supposed to be. It was gooey the way super brownies are supposed to be. But the only human being in history who could have managed that sucker was Diamond Jim Brady, the notorious glutton of the Gilded Age. (Four T-bone steaks, two ducks, a half a dozen lobsters, three dozen oysters, two pounds of candy and an entire pastry tray were a normal dinner for him. He could go for more if there were special treats.) I went from being happy and in a good mood to being a little full, then more than full, then Jesus-Christ-I-Can't-Stand-It-Anymore. I left half of that brownie on my plate, and left Cover 3 nauseated and staggering. Not the way you want to end an otherwise fine evening. * * * Cover 3 has its definite attractions - even if you have to put up with the chairs. Bourbon and rye drinkers, take especial note. If you are going to have dessert, Bring a Sunday School bus full of second graders with you. One dessert will be enough to feed the bus.

The chicken had a really crunchy batter without being greasy, and the ciabatta tasted fresh. The fries were crispy and not overly salted. My dining companions split a pasta dish and instead of just handing them an extra plate, the kitchen actually split the pasta for them and gave each person their own piece of bread. That kind of attention feels thoughtful and rare, especially for a counter service spot. They have a nice selection of iced teas including herbal tea and flavored green tea, plus beer and soda. It feels like more of a brunch / lunch place but it works for dinner too. This isn't a place where you come away saying "you have to order this one thing." It's more that everything is done well across the menu, which makes it easy to come back and try something different next time. I can't speak to the other locations, but this one was great.
