5* to Matt for his friendly service and great music in this little chicken joint on Burnet. While I admit I originally had set out on foot to Fly Rite (now closed) I was relieved to see this sign and enjoyed a delicious chicken sandwich while I was getting my car serviced at the nearby Mazda dealership! A plethora of sauces offered, I enjoyed the avacado plabano.

Quick bite to eat at this small chicken shack. I got the happy chick which consisted of 3 tenders choice of original or spicy fries and one extra side; I chose a side of Mac and cheese. The tenders were very crispy and fresh. The tenders were seasoned well. I opted for the spicy tenders however, they were not spicy at all. I liked the flavor of the white Mac and cheese but unfortunately it was served Luke warm. The fries were good (I like battered fries). They have a lot of sauce options. I had the honey mustard which was delicious (tasted home made) and garlic ranch (good but wasn't super garlicky as I hoped). Overall this was a nice little quick meal and if I come back to town I would come back.

10/10 this place hit the spot for my chicken tender craving Tenders: quality white meat chicken, no weird gristle or tendons, meat was tender and seems like they fried it just for my order Fries: well seasoned and crispy, can't ask for anything more Mac and cheese: good cheese flavor, I liked it Wish they had prices on the menu- my plate came out to $11 after tax and tip which I think is fine for how quality each piece of my meal was

So good. This is the spicy/hot chicken. Wasn't nashville spicy, but it had a good kick. I wish they gave more fries.

I'd recommend trying once to cross it off the list. Overall the quality is good but I wouldn't be coming back. Here's why. 1. The spicy isn't spicy at all. I'm now curious to see the difference between the regular and spicy. 2. But not curious enough to pay these insane prices. Seriously this is the most I've ever paid for 3 tenders and a chicken sandwich. And while good, there really wasn't anything special or unique about it that warranted such outrageous prices. 3. Service sucked. For these prices and having the word happy in your name, I expect joker smiles and energy. The dude did not smile, nor ask us if it's our first time, or explain the menu, or engage in any form. I get it, it's chicken tenders, I can figure it out but I have a feeling the sauces are a big selling point and may be the special thing about this place? Wouldn't know from this guy. 4. After looking at the many sauces and not receiving too much guidance, we decided on our safety ones - jalapeno ranch and chipotle ranch. Jalapeno ranch was pretty good. Chipotle ranch was a bit runny and the consistency did not work with the tenders. I saw some cool ones like Raspberry chipotle and avocado poblano but didn't get to try them. Overall, it's worth trying once. But I'm sticking to Chick-fil-A for my spicy sandwiches for over half the price and triple the taste and T22/Popeyes for spicy tenders.

Really good chicken and I really liked they would let you add an additional tender in place of a side. Unfortunately I did that and instead they served with fries, which I did not want. I'll try them again but will check the order before leaving.

Finally I stopped by with a friend after a long bike ride and we took home a whole chicken to split. Um. Everything was DELICIOUS! The whole chicken came with soft corn tortillas, salsas, and a side each of beans and rice. An grilled/roasted (aka slightly charred) onion was wrapped up in parchment with the chicken, absorbing yummy chicken flavors that was pulled apart for tacos. Everything was flavorful and the beans were studded with bacon chunks in it. Yes, it was that good! The chicken was really flavorful. Very savory and perfectly charred. . It's mesquite grilled chicken but I don't think I've had anything like it.. Unlike typical American barbecue, this wasn't sweet at all. Some of the white meat pieces were a bit dry, so I ate them with the beans and all was well.

THIS SH** LITERALLLY WHIPPED UP SOUL!!!!…read more Hands down, this is the best Soul Food in Austin, TX. My girlfriend and I have been here 4 times in counting. Every time we come, we have been satisfied. This is a black-owned restaurant and babiiesss, this is one for the books. The best times to come are early before 5. SUNDAYS ARE SUPER BUSY, (line out the door busy), so beware of that. Let's start with the service, the owner is HIM. Every time we've come, he's greeting everyone that comes in with a calm, cool, welcoming, and assured demeanor about himself while taking orders. When he has the chance, he comes by the tables and checks in with everyone, making sure everyone is satisfied and the place is up to his standards. This man is the definition of #HANDSON! It's needed. He doesn't know it, but we really value him. The Ambiance is usually way more busier, energetic like. However, today we came closer to opening @ 11:15am and was able to enjoy sitting down without the rush. It's always great music playing, so you know I'm jamming :P The cooks keep hair nets on their heads and gloves on. It's somewhat an open window kitchen so that's cool too. There's usually a cleaning lady going around making sure the place stays clean and tables rotating. The prices aren't bad. They did just increase since the last we been here, but they're still affordable. Now for the food WITH SOULLLL... Since we've been here so many times, I'll give you the MUST TRYs! These are delicious, delightful and your tastebuds will love you for it. Plus the portions are generous and never lack in flavor. #ComfortingFood 1. Oxtail Eggrolls $14 2. Cheezy Mac (regular) $6 3. Sweet Glazed Yams (regular) $6 4. Mean Greens (regular) $6 5. Pistachio Brownie (when available) 6. Sweet Tea $3.75 7. Fried Cabbage (Weekend Side Special) My rating... this place is definitive of SOUL. It's consistent, clean, and carries the vibes! One thing about it, whether you're vegetarian or loving the meat, you'll find something to love that will lighten your soul. It's been hard to find QUALITY food here in Austin, but we found it in 'WHIP MY SOUL'. So GO, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! You won't be disappointed.

The coleslaw was decent, and I often don't like coleslaw. The skin was tough and too much for me, but the food itself was great. The two piece was substantial for me, and the four piece seemed to be a little too much even for a big boy. The restroom floors were suspiciously very wet. I feel like they could provide some moist towelettes because the chicken was very greasy, and we had to just pour water on the napkins. But the staff handled it really well. They were fast, apologetic, and refreshingly colloquial, not stiff or robotic, just real people taking care of customers and keeping things moving. Since fried chicken was off the table, I went with the grilled chicken, and honestly it was excellent. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and flavorful enough that it did not feel like a consolation prize. Maybe this was the universe giving my cholesterol a temporary reprieve. The collards were just okay and not the strongest part of the meal, but everything else made up for it. The restaurant itself was super clean, and you could tell this newer location is well cared for. At about two years old, it still felt sharp, polished, and well run. I've been to several Hattie B's locations over the years, including the original in Nashville, Franklin, and Atlanta, where I once saw a woman riding a horse down the street in front of the store, which remains one of the more unforgettable restaurant-adjacent moments of my life. Austin compared well with all of them. Bonus points, there was no line, so we had a quick lunch with coworkers and still made it to the airport early. The free…read moreand freshly fried, well-seasoned tortilla chips are consistently excellent, and the restaurant is always clean and welcoming. Overall, we truly enjoy dining here. However, I do have a few concerns that are worth noting for both management and potential customers: First, this is not an inexpensive place to eat. Most individual options range from $15 to $16 or more per person. At that price, I find it disappointing that pico de gallo was removed from the salsa bar. It used to be included, but now it's only available in a ***VERY*** small portion for an extra added charge. It feels like a cost-cutting move that doesn't align with the pricing. I would rather see a modest price increase than see staple items like this diminish. The salsa bar is OVERLY loaded with salsas, so wouldn't it make more sense to trim the excessive amounts of salsa and bring back a very popular option like pico de gallo that people actually WANT? When you make decisions, make it make sense. The second issue is with customer service which can be hit or miss depending on who is working. Most of the staff are friendly, attentive and professional. I appreciate the service they provide. However, there is this one male employee whose demeanor is consistently indifferent or downright dismissive. His apathy DRAINS ME. He rarely acknowledges customers and doesn't offer the same courtesy and attentiveness as the other team members. While I understand everyone has different personalities, hospitality is a key part of the dining experience and this person could use instruction from management to provide a little more courtesy and professionalism. It's expensive out here...so making customers feel valued keeps business. Fix homeboy's attitude. I share this feedback not to be harsh because this restaurant has so much going for it, but missteps matter. A few small changes could easily take the overall experience from good to truly great.
