This is a solid restaurant owned by the same guy who owns Cena 2000 on the Newburgh waterfront, the steak house across the street from this place, and a few other restaurants. I thought it was a bit pretentious for my taste, and service was just okay, but the overall experience wasn't bad. The chef kept coming out and talked with all of the tables present which was a nice touch. The bread basket consisted of this dark bread with a little garlic stuffed inside which was kinda weird, and because we had eaten earlier we skipped the appetizer. I didn't really like the menu so I just got eggplant rollitini. I almost acted like a dick and ordered in Italian (involitini di melanzane), but thankfully I was nice as whileour waitress couldn't pronounce Italian names for shit, she was nice enough. My eggplant rollitini was good but not great, and the quality ingredients they used carried it for the most part. My main criticism of the dish was that it did not need narly as much mozzarella as they put on top, if any at all. But the tomato sauce was bright and flavorful, the eggplant rolls very well constructed, and the ricotta was good but could've come out a bit more fresher in the dish. The proscuitto they added inside the rolls was largely an afterthought, but did add a textural element. This is a solid restaurant for the Hudson Valley, and it lived up to my expectations. A lot of restaurants up here try to live up to the "we're on par with NYC" hype, and this one succeds. Not gonna change your life by eating here, but its solid Italian cooking. read more

A classic Italian restaurant with old-world hospitality. These folks are serving up old-world hospitality and service and very good classic Italian cuisine made with care -- and gusto! I stopped in solo close to closing time on an out of town trip and popped in to ask if I could be served. After checking with the kitchen, I was graciously seated at a white linen-topped table and served warm bread that had garlic butter baked in it and served with a plate of garlic/zucchini oil. Yum! I ate them all -- I was very hungry. Dinner entrees come with pasta or garlic broccoli (!) and I was told: Dinner comes with a caesar salad, is that okay? Okay?? Great!! I ate: warm bread with oil, a good caesar salad, chicken saltimbocca, and broccoli with garlic. It was very good. The chicken/eggplant dish did not burst with flavor and the chicken was somewhat dry and overcooked, but not terribly so, and the broccoli -- cooked with the care and respect it deserves -- more than compensated for a good feed. Would I make this restaurant a destination for culinary urgings? Probably not. It would be ideal for multi-generation gatherings in a gracious, unpretentious setting. And very reasonably priced -- a full meal from bread to salad to entre and vegetable/pasta for 28 bucks -- can't be beat. If you're in the area and want a good, very reasonably priced full meal, don't hesitate! read more

Stopping in at Locanda's always feels like dropping in to a friends house unexpected .. walking in, feeling welcome and enjoying a meal or just a cappuccino ( theirs is the BEST). Such a great spot. The servers are warm and friendly ... the food never disappoints. I went to Trattoria Locanda to celebrate my birthday. It was a splendid night. The owner and staff went above and beyond to make the night special for myself and my guests. I have never received such personalized attention from any other restaurant and it felt great since this was my first visit to the restaurant and the area. The food was great and so is the service. Good food - TERRIBLE SERVICE. I'm usually pretty calm when it comes to restaurants, I get it, people are busy a lot going on. But when you have to stand up and walk to the bar to get a refill on water things are pretty bad. Let's talk Food. Bread and olive oil combo was on point, very yummy. Salad seemed like it came out of a pre-mixed bag. I ordered the chicken for my main course. It was delightful. Overall food gets a standing ovation. Something needs to be done about this staff. I never bother to leave reviews anywhere but in this case, I will make an exception. My girlfriend and I just tried eating here. I say "tried" because as soon as we were seated, they completely forgot we existed despite the fact we were at an outdoor table right next to the front door. We were given food menus, but no drink menu. We flagged down one of the servers who got us a drink menu but no one came to take our order. We asked one of the servers who kept walking by if we could order, and he politely helped us out and apologized for the wait. But then the waiting game began again. Five minutes go by, nothing. Ten minutes go by, nothing. Finally a new couple sat down at the table behind us and I watched as their orders were taken right away and they got their drinks within a few minutes. So we got up and left. The food looked really good but your guess is as good as mine as to how good it tasted. We can't really blame our server because we have no idea who our server was. Apparently, the restaurant didn't know who our server was either. I know it's a tough time, especially for people in this industry, but we've both worked in the service industry before and repeatedly ignoring the same customers over and over again is just plain rude. If you do choose to go here and they do actually serve you, please let us know how the food was! read more

I've eaten at locanda for years and never left a review but after eating there on Sunday night for Valentine's Day, I felt I had to leave a review for what was one of the best meals of my life. I had the locanda hot tails, Chilean sea bass and risotto and broccoli rapini with a California Cabernet. The owner greeted us at the door and we had a wonderfully intimate meal in a beautiful atmosphere The food was excellent and the service was superb. My husband and parents found this restaurant when we were house hunting last year and thought it was pretty good. After moving into our new home 20 miles south of fishkill, my parents came up from lower westchester for dinner, we decided to return for dinner. I am sorry to say, never again. I called in the afternoon and made a reservation for 7 pm that evening. When we arrived, they seemed confused that I had called for a reservation. Just disorganized. But Everything was fine and we were seated. After 20 minutes a waitress finally noticed us sitting there and asked us if we would like to see a wine menu or if we would like something to drink. Insane. We ordered a bottle of wine and an appetizer for the table. Shortly after we put in our entrees. At least 30 minutes later, well into our second bottle of wine, we received our "pizza" appetizers. Pizza took that long. Could you imagine?!. I would have walked out at this point if I knew what was coming. Our entire table ordered fish entrees. Three soft shell crabs and a striped bass. I am a chef. Never heard of fish taking this long to cook. As we waited, we noticed Everyone in the restaurant was drunk and rowdy. Almost like they booze up the locals so no one notices how bad the service and food is. Or maybe this is all just normal to some people. Waiting 2 Hours to get served bad food. Its outrageous! My soft shell crab was swimming in disgusting gravy and my husbands fish was over cooked and tasteless. The staff seems to be afraid of a bad review and were aware that this was going to happen. A free dessert wasn't going to help the situation. My favorite part was when we said we never coming back and the owners wife says "well thats your choice." Yes I am choosing not to come back and i am choosing to tell everyone how terrible my experience was at your restaurant. I waited the longest I have ever waited for a terrible piece of fish. Reservation was at 7 we left at 9:30. Fact is, with everything we ordered, we could have been in and out of that restaurant in 45 minutes to an hour easily. Maybe less. I do not care how busy you are. Try doing this in manhattan. They may do okay in a place like Fishkill, but they would never survive up against any serious competition. read more

My wife and I have eaten here several times and we have never been disappointed. The food is amazing and the service is excellent. We have been to Italy several times and I can tell you eating at Trattoria Locanda will give you the same dining experience. We started our dinner with muscles Fra Diablo. The muscles were large and fresh, the sauce was sweet and spicy. My wife had homemade pasta with scallops in a cream sauce. I had baked Seabass with mashed potatoes and broccoli Rabe. Both Entrées were amazing. The Seabass was cooked to perfection. I can't wait to go back and have it again. Some other points of interest. The restaurant is up-to-date and very clean. The price range was very reasonable. Also they have a really good bar My wife had cosmopolitan and it was perfectly made. I got a glass of Malbec and I was also happy. I can't wait to go back again. We hosted a dinner for 60+ people here and it was fabulous. I had made arrangements for the dinner to be at a restaurant in a nearby town but after multiple calls to a very unresponsive catering manager, I started looking for alternatives. Trattoria Locanda agreed to reserve the whole restaurant for our party. Within 48 hours of the event, we had an increase in numbers and the response was " no problem, we can handle it." My husband and I came across this place a couple of months ago when we were looking for a place to go for a late lunch, early dinner. We both loved the old world Italian decor. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana and my husband ordered the chicken Marsala. Both entrees were absolutely delicious. I actually admit that the eggplant was as good as my homemade version...and I'm 1st generation Italian...some of you know what that means...as far as critiquing food goes. Decided on dinner here after considering the other nearby restaurants in the Fishkill area. Inside, the decor was very nice, wine racks on the wall, nice lighting and nice bar area. Sat at one of the two window tables near the front of the restaurant. Nice spot, only issue was the front door made the eating space somewhat tight. After sitting down, waited a while, about 15 minutes, for someone to come by with water and to take drink orders. Was a little disappointed and puzzled by this as we were relatively early for dinner and the restaurant was not busy. Ordered the fried calamari appetizer. When the order came out about 10 minutes later, the waitress asked for our entree orders. After we told her the orders, she asked if she had told us the daily specials - no, she had not. After reciting them, asked if we wanted to change our entrees. Now, this was about 30 minutes since we were seated and she's asking if she told us the specials - not great service in my book. The food was actually good. The chicken marsala has good flavor, without being overly salty. The salmon special was nicely done with sides of risotto and broccoli rabe. However, the side pasta was slightly overdone and on the soft side. Caesar salad that came with all the entrees was very good. Food was above average but overall, I would give no more than 3 stars based on the slow and below par service. Will probably try the other Italian place down the block before going back. read more

Not at all the experience I was expecting! When I saw pictures of the interior and exterior, my expectations for food and service were immediately high. I was really hoping to love this place, and the night started out great, but it declined very quickly. What seemed to be the owner greeted us and he was very friendly. We waited for a table at the bar and took in the beautiful interior. When we were seated (short wait, happy about that) we enjoyed the bread and olive oil dish. But the moment we met our waiter our night started to go downhill. The waiter seemed to be a manager by the way he was dressed. He carried himself like he didn't care and did not seem excited to be serving us. I don't care how busy that place was - a smiling waiter always helps the wait. He mumbled through the specials and seemed annoyed when I was asking questions about the menu. Our appetizer took longer than expected considering we ordered their version of a caprese to start with. Sliced mozzarella and tomato shouldn't have taken as long as it did, even with consideration of how busy it was. But it was good and we munched down patiently waiting the arrival of our meals. Lucky for us, we fell into great conversation and didn't mind the wait. But it was long enough to leave me very hungry when our food finally came out. I ordered the Ravioli alla Funghetto and expected a good presentation- the green raviolis swimming in too much orange red pepper sauce with chunks of brown mushrooms did not look appetizing- color is important and the whole dish looks wrong. I wanted to take a picture but then they'd surely think I was liking it. Absolutely hungry I dove in- I finished one ravioli before the bowl (surprised they didn't freshly grate it in front of us) of cheese came out. My friend about half the bowl and passed it over to which my quick eye SPOTTED SOMETHING BLACK IN THE BOWL. We decided it was most likely a SMALL TURD and I IMMEDIATELY lost my appetite. I stopped eating and my friend quickly lost his appetite after a few bites. When the bus girl came over we explained what happened- we were very upset! I don't know if she told our waiter (a manager?) but they had appeared to be talking and looking over to our table. When we called him over he seemed to have no idea we had a problem. At this time I was fired up and explained what happened. THERE WAS NO CONCERN ON HIS FACE. He simply kept repeating they never had that problem and that doesn't happen here. I was absolutely disgusted and as a customer this was not the service I expect when something goes wrong - whether he was a manager or waiter. Finally he asked if we wanted to remove something from the bill. Seriously he had to ask?! We didn't finish our meals and the left overs were wrapped to feed to a dog. The cheaper entree was taken off and we left disappointed. It's safe to say we will never be back there again! read more

The decor was nice. My friend and I waited To be seated for a good 10 minutes at the podium with no acknowledgement. We finally got a table. Never were told the specials for the evening, which was disappointing because I heard a special I probably would've ordered. The food was great. The service was horrible. So slow and there were 2 tables. There was no bartender either so the server was behind the bar and doing the 2 tables that were in there. The folks t the bar were served before us when we had been sitting a good 15-20 minutes before them. Waited 35 minutes for salad and our waitress never even acknowledged the fact that we had to wait. As someone who works in fine dining myself, whom wanted to go somewhere different, on my only day off, I won't go back for awhile. I was extremely disappointed in the service and was completely turned off by that. I hope it gets better!! read more

My friend booked Locanda for a party of about 30 people. They booked the party more than 6 weeks ahead & had invitations made and sent them out. About 2 weeks before the party, the restaurant called to say they would be on vacation the day of her party & could not have it there at the time she wanted, but DID say they could change the time and have it at night. (But aren't they supposed to be on vacation?!) Not wanting to change the time of the party, she moved the party elsewhere. On the day of the party, some of us drove by Locanda afterward. It was PACKED with another party - a party that looked to be a lot bigger than ours. So they were NOT out of town after all!! They just booked a bigger party! Oh and when they sent the deposit back to my friend, their check bounced. Good job, Locanda! Not a nice way to do business!!!!! SOOO unprofessional & disgusting. If you want to plan a party there, you'd better be sure it's big enough for them! read more

We dined here this past Saturday night, it was our first time there. We primarily went because I had won a $50 gift certificate at a golf tournament. When we got there we obviously followed in a couple that were certainly regulars. They demanded a table be reset for them even though there were 6 or 7 tables already set. They also had salad and wine almost immediately. That being the case it seemed the only server working was the one catering to their needs and was also our server. After a wait of perhaps 5 minutes she finally freed herself up enough to take our drink order. I have to stop here and say she certainly was the high point of this evening. She was a very good server and I wish I could remember her name. Even after learning her apartment was broken into she was still very attentive to our needs...ok she was the good! After sitting there for a while it became obvious that there were 3 other servers working and the owner Nazmi Berisha was wandering around too. I know it was the owner because he thinks enough of himself to have his picture on the website for all the world to behold. We were a party of 3 and why the kitchen couldn't send out one cold app and 2 hot apps at the same time is a mystery to me. My oysters on a half shell and my wife's bruschetta came out together followed by a five minute wait for fried mozzarella? Why? And it was the same deal when it was time for the entries to come out, 2 pasta dinners, followed by a five minute wait for a grilled ribeye? The apps were ok (how do you screw up oysters) we have had better mozzarella sticks though. Our dinners were very good yet I doubt we will be back. As I had mentioned it was our first time there, and you would think the owner would have asked us how our dinner was? Check on the kitchen? Ask his staff if they needed help? Nope he did none of these he spent 2 hours taking to customers that he knew, even say him give one table he knew a bottle of wine to take home. Oh wait he did attempt to fix a wobbly table which took up about 45 seconds of his valuable time. It truly looked like a bad episode of Kitchen Nightmares where the owner is the most important person in the restaurant and us mere mortals should be thrilled to be in the same room. Sorry there are to many good restaurants that I can spend a couple hundred bucks in then this place! Only gave them 2 stars because of the excellent service dispute her having no support what so ever! read more

Just went here for the first time today with my wife, and we were pleasantly surprised by everything. The small dining room was quiet and cozy, and our waitress, Ashley greeted us immediately with a smile, then offered us drinks and gave us fresh, warm bread. The fried calamari was the best and most authentic we've ever had; it literally melted in your mouth. I had the fresh prosciutto sandwich with mozzarella. It was also delicious and a very good sized portion--had to take half of it home. My wife had the chicken parmigiana with a side of pasta. The sauce was excellent; the chicken was breaded and cooked perfectly. We finished off our lunch with a large cannoli, prepared fresh on premise and (not to sound like a broken record), it was fantastic as well. At the end of our meal, the owner came over, greeted us, and made sure we enjoyed everything. Such a great little discovery that will be sure to visit frequently. They even played Sinatra! ps. They had a very thorough wine selection scattered throughout the walls of the dining room. We will have to check that out next time. read more

We had a large group of 50 people for my brother's wedding rehearsal dinner party. This very important event was planned with the owner approximately 8 months in advance. For over $5k, our experience was disappointing for the following reasons: We were told we would have 7 round tables. We did not. We had several awkwardly placed rectangular tables in which we were constantly dodging kitchen staff. Extremely slow service. There was not enough staff on hand to service our group. We did not receive our main course until 9:30pm! (We arrived at 6:15). Some people with children had to leave early. Remember Trattoria knew several months in advance of the event and failed to provide adequate staffing. The busser spilled an oil-based salad dressing on my lap and stained my brand new dress and went up my leg. Accidents happen, but they did not even offer a towel or anything for me to clean up. (Really they should have offered to pay the cleaning bill). Long black HAIR found in my mother's salad!!! This is unforgivable. My mother (the groom's mother, too) is also the one who organized the event with the owner and paid the more than $5k bill. The acoustics were terrible. It was so loud, you'd need to yell in order for the person next to you to hear. It was over-crowded for the space provided. I'm certain had the fire marshall showed up, the restaurant would have been shut down as its occupancy was beyond capacity. Because of the terrible service, hair in food, the busser spilling/staining a dress, you'd think they would have provided some sort of discount as a courtesy. Instead they included a 25% gratuity onto the bill and then provided an additional space on the bill for more gratuity. Unbelievable! read more

We had our first dinner out at a restaurant in 14 months and this was a perfect choice! Delicious food and great drinks. My wife's glass of wine was generous and I had a WONDERFUL Old Fashion too. They begin by bringing out warm rolls and a small bowl of tasty olive oil for the rolls. I had the veal parmigiana with a side of pasta. The Caesar salad may have been the best I ever had. We'll be back to this area in November, and we'll definitely return here. read more
