I went here for a light dinner before an event in the city a few weeks ago and was very impressed with Trade. Pros about this restaurant: 1. Food: had a flatbread and a couple of small plates, they were fantastic! The pork wraps appear small on the plate but were a hit. Everything was quite impeccable. 2. Drinks: I did not have a cocktail because I saw that Delirium Tremens was on tap! Very surprised to see this. Next time I will get a cocktail because their offerings looked fantastic. 3. Service: very accommodating, we showed up without reservations but were able to find seats at the bar. Not sure why the restaurant was full on a Tuesday night for an early dinner. That was odd but it is not enough to deter me from going again. 4. Decor: lets face it, this place is sweet. If i could have this as my house I'd be pretty happy. Cons: none? I've eaten there three times now. It's close to my place. Nice vibe, friendly hostesses, you feel welcome. Cool, loft-like space. I always order small plates. They have good pizzas, and the arugula salad and Brussels sprouts were tasty. Their wine specials are specially good, unusual, inexpensive (for restaurant prices) and flavorful. Our server was attentive. The only drawback: this is the kind of meal where you wake up in e middle of the night needing a big drink of water. The food tastes good, but it must all be a little too salty. My suggestion, drink lots of water during the meal. read more

I think a 4X markup on a cheap bottle of wine is a bit abusive, and urge others to do what I do and in the future boycott establishments that over-charge their customers. You can't go wrong with the consistent food here. Even the simplest small plates have pleasant and complex flavors that are outstanding, like the chicken meatballs. Mains were also delicious, specifically the duck and salmon. I communicated to our server how we liked the pacing of our meal, preferring not to have the mains arrive while starters are still on the table. She delivered on that, and made honest and perfect wine suggestions. Desserts were top notch. This place is upscale yet unpretentious with delicious and consistent food - three things that are hard to find all together in Boston restaurants. In one word: Amazing! Every detail was taken care of from the beginning. I started off trying to book a large party and Jacki was so accommodating. They had the private room booked, but Jacki hooked it up and put us at a big table in the dining room. Now on to the food and drink! AKA the very reason we go out in the first place! The cocktails were amazing, so creative and original. One of their bartenders, Tenzin, was up for bartender of the year if that says anything. (Guess what, it does). I had a Sweater Season and it was perfect. The food was amazing. Everything we had was well cooked, prepared and presented. Our server, Felix, was attentive, and prepared. My friends can be a little bit of a handful. But they handled every potential allergy concern (gluten and nuts) in stride. Cannot wait to go back!!! The drink menu is exciting and always being developed with the latest tasty trends in mixology, while keeping in line with customers needs and wants. The flatbreads have always left my palate with an unquenchable desire to have more and try them all in one sitting. My friend and I decided to brave to biting cold last night for dinner at Trade, and we are glad that we did. I've eaten here before but it had been a while...and once again, was delighted by the creative menu choices. We had dinner at the bar in front of the warm wood burning oven, which was perfect for the cold night. We started with a flatbread with lamb sausage that was totally yummy and then for the rest of the evening we got an array of other small plates: scallion pancakes, baby bok choy, crispy pork riblets, polenta bites and ahi tuna. Everything was good to excellent including the very smooth Ruta Malbec I sipped. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better my friend ordered the coconut cake. My intention was just to have a taste as I am fine with passing on desert but I did more damage than a sliver. It was sooo good--light, delicate cake with a beautiful buttery frosting and toasted almond. it reminded me of the deserts I tasted in Paris, light, complex layered flavors without being super sugary sweet. Hats off to the pastry chef at Trade; she's a star! When I go back I'm going to have to seriously look at what's on the desert menu and factor that into my selections for the evening. read more

I've been here on a number of occasions and have been impressed by the quality of the food, consistency of the staff, and the creativity of the menu. Most recently we visited since family was in from out of town and wanted some place near their hotel. I have been to Trade a few times now and LOVED it every time. First of all, it's gorgeous inside... perfect date spot, family-in-town dinner night or after work drinks. If you are lucky enough to get Tenzin the bartender he is one of Boston's best. A group of us sat outside on the patio which is right on the Rose Kennedy Greenway and they even gave us blankets since it was getting a little chilly. What's better than a nice bottle of Rose with your friends wrapped up in comfy blankets eating pizza?! We requested patio seating and were told there was a 15-min wait even though there were plenty of empty tables outside. The hostess did not explain. Then she seemed to forget about seating us and we had to find her after 15 min. The service was adequate, and the food was overpriced for what it is. Took the old lady here for dinner. Service is great and the atmosphere is nice. The polenta bites were fantastic, however the baked rigatoni wasn't so great. It barely had any sauce on it, with a few bits of meat. It had good flavor, but it was served in a metal dish and I noticed a weird metallic taste to it. My wife and I were enjoying a Saturday afternoon in downtown Boston, we had just visited the Boston Tea Party museum and planned to walk back through the gardens of the financial district. A colleague recommended Trade as an option for lunch and we are so grateful that he did. This is for the airport location. I had visited Trade in downtown a few months ago and had an amazing experience. I had a trip out of Logan planned and made sure I left extra time to visit trade at the airport before my flight. My experience was subpar to say the least. My server was Marcia, but we May as well not have had one. My whole visit seemed like I was bothering her. I understand that people have bad days, but it felt like I was in a real life episode of restaurant takeover: worst of the worst. Marcia was on her phone more often than not, sighed at my requests, and when she was not on her phone or ignoring me, she was gossiping with coworkers! I had to wave her over multiple times. Im really disappointed the service didn't come close to my first experience in Boston, especially for the money. I shouldn't have left there knowing all about Marcias family life, or which coworker she couldn't stand. She had one other table, who she also neglected and they ended up leaving. We recently sat at the bar on a Saturday night at Trade and loved the experience! We ordered the fried brussel sprouts, a couple of flatbreads-- the flatbreads were good, the brussels were excellent! We also enjoyed the red sangria and some espresso martinis-- both were made with all real ingredients, no fillers or sweeteners, and real espresso. The service was great. Terrible food, not worth the price. Service was so bad. One dish came in late, I informed the manager and she said she was informed by the server that this happened. But did not acknowledge to us until I asked. She tried to compensate by giving us free dessert. When our check comes, we see that we are charged for the dessert. I had business lunch at Trade. It was my 1st time. The service was very good. The food was amazing. I have to say, when I looked their menu on line I was worried that I will not like anything on the menu. In reality I loved the fish special. It was perfect amount of food, it was tasty. Presentation of food was great. It was 5 people at my lunch table and during rush hour it did not take long to get our order. For a venture from the chef that gave us Rialto, Trade is hugely disappointing. The setting is OK but extremely LOUD. The menu is limited and a majority of the items are overly picante, which in my book is the cheap way out - a good chef brings flavor through complex use of spices, not just heat. The food also fell extremely flat. We arrived at 9 PM, which should not be late, yet they were already out of several items, including the wine we ordered. And the food we did get was mediocre at best. My eggplant was room temperature, something that always makes me nervous in a restaurant, and completely undistinguished, and my husband's ceviche was overly picante (and he likes hot food). When I asked whether they had bread I was told that they "don't do bread service." Seriously? I can understand perhaps charging for bread, or serving it only upon request, but not at all? Our main courses were a mushroom and fig flatbread which was in fact quite good, but then again, it's hard to screw up anything with gorgonzola on it. Our mussels, however, did not fare as well. Within our serving, at least six were completely closed, which made me question how fresh the batch was. And they arrived bathed in a (what else?) spicy aoili. Couldn't they have put the aioli on the side for dipping rather than slathering it all over the place? Overall, a completely meh dish at best. We also ordered two sides - the potatoes and the summer squash. Based on the description, I expected the summer squash to arrive nicely roasted with deliciously carmelized fennel. Instead, the squash was in large chunks, with none of the flavors developed, and the fennel was close to raw. An industrial cafeteria would have done better. Dessert was OK but by then it was far too little, too late. Is the food scene in Boston really so bad that Trade rates best new restaurant for the year? Really, fellow Bostonians? I've never been to the Olive Garden, but I bet it's better. read more

My wife and I went for the first time this past Saturday without reservations which was great because they save spots at the bar in-front of the wood stove for walk-ins. The atmosphere was wonderful with exposed brick,high ceilings,and large glass windows.The service attention was good but faded a bit as it got busy. We had many courses which included chicken meatballs.pumpkin soup,flat bread pizza ,roasted chicken and the lobster. The food was very good. Beautiful Interior! Too bad no one showed up! Went there for dinner this weekend and was really dissapointed, as I had heard good things. The first thing that hit me was how empty the bar was for a Saturday night, especially since Trade Has such a huge bar. I found out pretty quick why: The Bar staff was rude, unapproachable and univiting. I think she was doing us a favor getting us a drink. I was so suprised, but then again, judging by the small crowd, obviously others had picked up on this before me. Dinner was so-so. As one previous person noted, No bread service. And although we had a wonderful server, the food was just dropped on our table with little fanfare. The meal choices were sparse as well. Too many weird things, with essentially little to eat. Not sure I will go back...but then again, judging by the amount of people, it will most likely have a new name and owner soon. So....usually when you go into a busy restaurant in Boston for lunch you don't expect the kind of service we received at Trade. Greeted immediately by a friendly short haired lovely lady behind the host stand, seated straight away and then sat right by the window with a fabulous view in the bar area. I had read a few reviews on yelp about the noise but I don't see what they were complaining about...it was super busy so of course it was a bit noisy. Our server came over within minutes of us getting to our table with a water pitcher and a big smile...then she spoke. Welcoming us and asking if we had any food allergies she should be aware of. Awesome. I have a nut allergy and have never been asked so this was a big brownie point right there. Karen was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu and gave us a ton of suggestions. ( Sounded even more scrumptious with her English accent) We took her advice and shared several of the small plates including the velvety pumpkin soup with pickled apples and the gingered beet salad which melts in your mouth and then the salmon which was the highlight of the meal. Who knew sunchokes were that delicious. To top it off we just had to share dessert. Everything was amazing. Karen gave all the credit to Andrew Hebert who she says is the executive chef...I thought Jody Adams was in the kitchen making my lunch. I am so glad we came in. Trade was overall disappointing. I went with a couple coworkers for lunch. It took too long to get seated and the service was incredibly slow throughout the meal. The Steak Salad cost $25 and was mostly chickpeas. It also only had 3 tiny little pieces of halloumi on it. read more

We stopped by after a long day of working on our feet. We came in looking for a place to unwind with a cocktail and some comfort food. What we left with was so much more. The bartenders, Kim and (I'm forgetting your name) the blonde short haired one were HYSTERICAL. They offered us great suggestions when ordering from both the drink menu and the food menu. We had the fig, Gorgonzola, pesto flatbread pizza and I'm pretty sure it was hand delivered from the gods. We also tried the polenta which was NEW on the menu that day. Lucky us because it was delicious. We also went with their suggestion of an avocado, peanut, and mango salad of some sort. It was incredible and I am so happy they suggested it to us. I thought Trade was fantastic! I was here on a Friday night in a large group. It was pretty packed when we arrived - and it had a great feel to it. We were seated right away and the service was excellent. It was a little slow at times but overall very good. In addition, I think you just have to cut restaurants some slack in the first few weeks/1 month of opening. And all things considered the service was still very good. Most importantly we must have ordered 75% of the menu and everything was delicious! The food was excellent - it was a creative menu, delicious food, and a nice variety. I recently saw Trade on the TV show Chronicle, so I was excited to try it. Overall, it was a let-down. At 5:30pm we tried to make a reservation for 8:30 for a party of 2 on Saturday after July 4th (I live in the South End, and the city was desolate, so I figured it would be easy to get in at Trade). We were surprised to learn that the earliest table available was for 9:15, but we could try our luck at the bar. Fair enough. We arrive at 7:45pm and there were ample seats at the bar, and the high-top tables in the bar section. We sat at a high-top table. It had not yet been wiped down. The bar-area waitress came over and wiped it down, not well. She was clearly grumpy. She asked us what we wanted to drink, and my friend said, "What is white whiskey? (it was in one of the special cocktails)" She said, "it's whiskey, but white." Pure attitude. We said we needed a few minutes to decide, so we left and took a seat at the bar. We didn't want a grumpy bad waitress ruining our first time at a new restaurant. The Bartender, Adam, was great. He told us about the drink special (something that the grumpy waitress didn't bother mentioning to us), dinner special, and answered every question we had about the intricate cocktails. He made great drinks. The appetizers were great. We had the octopus and the prosciutto w/ melon. The rosemary flat-bread we had was bland. For $11, I would have expected something more than a pre-baked pizza crust with rosemary and a few slices of cold, unmelted cheese. The entrées were mediocre; the blue fish came with burned bacon, and the chicken was bland, trough, and dry. The desserts were terrible; I've had better desserts at Dairy Queen. The atmosphere was a cool bar atmosphere in a good location. I would go back for drinks and appetizers at the bar, but not for dinner or dessert. UPDATE 3 days later: After communicating our experience to the restaurant manager, he sent us an apologetic email, asking for a home address so he can send a gift card, in hopes that we give Trade a second chance. Service is definitely a problem here - there are plenty of restaurants around town that will charge the same and not treat you as badly. I went for drinks only, having been forewarned about the bad attitude. Waiter was snotty - definitely don't order any drink with flavored vodka, they don't stock it and have a real problem with anyone who orders it. Try not to hassle the waiters with requests for water or a check. read more
