I am taken back at the beauty of this place. The decor is gorgeous. It's located in a super cute corner with lots of plants, fountain, a theatre, and decent parking. Inside has decoration from around the world. It was so fun pointing out egypt, mexico, thailand, and many more. We came here with our daughter and they had high chairs for babies which is great. We ordered thai steak salad, montecristo, and grassy green drinks -- literally the best drink I've had! They are lightly sweet, we ordered 3 each! I love Tower Café, they have the best French toast ever!! With the French toast I ordered the delicious Cajun sausage and eggs over easy. Everything was so good. I've lived in Sacramento almost all my life and I've been to the Tower Cafe only a handful of times. The last time I went was over a decade ago. I decided to re-visit it when some friends came to visit me as I feel like this restaurant is so iconically Sacramento! The restaurant itself is amazing from nice greenery outside to multicultural decorations in every inch inside the restaurant. You can spend a while here just looking at the decorations and never be bored. It's honestly one of my favorite things about this restaurant. The waitress we had this time was attentive and would check up on us frequently. I also love they have so many options for vegetarian and vegans. We ordered the huevos rancheros and the cod sandwich. Both were good but I would say the cod sandwich was the best out of the two. Definitely would come back for that. If you are around the Sacramento area for just a small time I would recommend coming here! read more

Prices are not terrible, but they are not cheap either, I guess right in the middle, I think the wedge salad was $17 ish, the burgers run around $18 to $21 if I remember right... What an outstanding spot! This place defies categorization. Certainly a lot of Mexican cuisine influence, but so much more. This place typically has a line, so reservations are recommended. Excellent craft cocktails, very eclectic menu, and even more eclectic interior experience. We were here in the cold weather, such as it is for Sacramento, but they have a patio that I think would be a great dining experience at the right time of year. My husband had the: The Borracho Burger Our half pound burger topped with our Borracho BBQ sauce (mango, jalapeno and bourbon), jack cheese, crispy onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. He thought it was really good. It totally hit the spot. I tried it the next day and really enjoyed the quarter I had. It was still moist and juicy. It had great flavor and the crispy onions were no longer crispy, but they were still good. I had the: Chile Rellenos Two large Pasilla chilies filled with Monterey jack cheese, pine nuts, currants, and cilantro, rolled in panko and deep fried until crispy and golden. Served with house-made salsa, sour cream, red rice and pinto beans. My husband ordered this last week and I tried it and it was so good that I ordered it this time for myself. I loved the deep fried crispy shell on the Chilies. It was so tasty and inside it was so cheesy. I enjoyed the bite/crunch of the pine nuts. The green rice was really tasty, I'm not sure why it says red rice as it was green both times we got it and the pinto beans were good too. The dish had a tiny kick to it which was good and made it more flavorful. We also had dessert this time. We had the yin yang cake. It was really good. It's chocolate mousse on the bottom with a chocolate crust. On top is a white chocolate mousse. The whole thing is really well done. I love getting dessert, but it's hard as the meals are so filling. I end up over the top full like this time, but I wasn't going to forgo dessert. I wish they stayed open later so you could get a bit or dessert after the movie got out. We thankfully got out of work early so we could get to the 4:15 showing giving us time afterwards to get a bite. We don't usually get out of work till 5 so that was a stretch of us to ask for time off from work. Parking is great. The churro syrup is so delicious with the fresh fruit! The borracho burger was so savory and the meat was so tender and juicy. It came with fried onions crisp to give it a crunchy taste. The huevos ranchero had great blend of crunchy and savory taste. I've been here a few times and the food never disappoints. I came on Valentine's Day and it was very packed and we were told an hour wait but we got lucky and only waited 15 minutes! I've loved Tower Cafe for years and have had so many lovely experiences here. Unfortunately my visit this past Saturday may have changed that. The food is as consistent and delicious as ever, but the outdoor seating situation has become really uncomfortable. It feels like everyone is crammed in together with no breathing room -- impossible to have a real conversation without basically being in your neighbor's lap. My girl friend and I love going to Tower, it's our traditionally yearly Christmas meet up because calories during the holidays doesn't count! We came on a Saturday around 9AM and put our name on the waiting list. They quoted us 25 minutes but our actual wait time was closer to 15 minutes. Want to have the best French toast of your life?? Be warn: don't order unless you want French toasts ruined forever. We ordered the French toast to share with a side of potatoes and bacon, extra crispy. the portion size is HUGE so it was perfect to split with two people. The French toast comes with two HUGE pieces, slathered with butter. The inside is eggy, custardy. I don't know how they do it but each bite is delightful. We also ordered coffee - this is not your typical diner coffee, I think they use Temple beans or some local beans because it's fantastic. The bacon, extra crispy as requested, is smoky, and perfectly crispy. The inside decoration is gorgeous, overflowing - parasols, living plants, Christmas lights, creating a warm ambiance without being 'too much" Service is friendly. Over ten years since my last review of Tower Cafe... wow! Anyhoos, I went for breakfast and the famous French toast is legit. The French toast is what Tower is known for and that's for good reason. This item is simply amazing. It's perfect. The inside of the thing is soft and eggy with just the right sweetness. It really surprised me. This dish along would get me to come to Tower more frequently. Also great was the bacon and eggs. The bacon isn't that overly thick stuff. It's nice and crispy without being a chore to eat. I asked for eggs over medium and that's how they came out. The only 'misses' for me here were the ham and sausage. The ham is absolutely huge and a bit over done in terms of flavor. It's both too sweet and too salty at the same time. The sausage is also monstrous. It's chicken and I wish it were pork. Other than that breakfast here is fabulous and is certainly something I'd happily recommend! read more

Apparently from 3:30-4:00 the kitchen is closed to prepare for dinner, but people waiting can still order desserts and drinks. We just waited until 4:00pm to order. I heard from a friend that their Fish N Chips were good and I've been craving a good Fish N Chips with the House Chardonnay. I tried a lot of Fish N Chips, and this is the best Fish N Chips I have ever tried. It tastes amazing, especially with the green sauce. The best part is it's huge! Definitely sharable or enough for leftovers. The House Chardonnay paired perfect with the food. Overall from service to ambiance to price. I would highly recommend. I will be back! We were seated for breakfast quickly inside because the breeze made it feel very chilly outside. Business was brisk, with many filled tables so we were seated toward the back, but thankfully our server was very thoughtful and checked on us frequently so we didn't feel out of sight/out of mind. Mist everything we ordered was to our liking; I just ordered way too much food, and bc my French toast was forgotten, as it didn't arrive with the rest of our order, I think a larger slice was prepared. As such, I was already pretty full from my Latté and the "All Week Special" I ordered, so ended up boxing most of that delightful French toast to take home. The Cajun style sausage I selected was very tasty with just enough kick to it; my eggs were cooked perfectly over medium, while the potatoes had a nice amount of crunch to them. Hubs had the "French Connection" with chicken sausage link, and he appreciated that his over easy eggs were perfect. His only complaint was he thought the coffee had a soapy taste to it. As for the setting, the interior, like the exterior is very artsy eclectic and a lot to take in, so prepare for either sensory delight, or overload. I been coming to this restaurant for a really long time. My last review was like 10+ years ago so an update review is overdue. Still one of my favorite brunch restaurant in town. Love their inside and outdoor seating - each space offers it's own wonder. Yes, the wait sucks lol 45 minutes for 2 people so you do the math if there's more in your party. Yes, they take advance reservation but never for the same day. They don't give wait time over the phone, must be in person to get on the wait list. Great thing about waiting, you get to enjoy the very welcoming waiting they have surrounded by trees and water fountains. You can grab a cocktail or coffee at the bar/bakery area to get you started while you wait. Isn't that cool? I THINK SO! Tower Cafe is known for their French toast so I made sure to have some, paired it up with eggs and a chicken sausage. Hubby had the Baja Enchiladas (pork) which he enjoyed very much there wasn't even a trace left other than spots of sauce on the plate. We had two drinks with our meal, and espresso Martini and a raspberry jalapeño lemon drop. I've had better to be honest but it wasn't bad. Service was pleasant as always. Tower Cafe has a very unique and fun atmosphere. This restaurant was on my list as I plotted out places I'd like to try as I make my way up to Tahoe for the weekend. I was surprised to find that there was a wait on a Friday @ Noon but we were given a 15 minute wait but we were seated before that which was nice. The interior of this restaurant is very fun, it feels like a combination of a thrift store & a sacred temple with all the beautiful pieces, art, and floral scattered around the restaurant. As for the menu, it was very hard to choose from because a lot of their items looked good. I went with the "French Connection" and my boyfriend got the "Borracho Burger". I really enjoyed the french toast -- i've never had anything like it. I'm usually someone that prioritizes filling up on protein when i'm getting full, but I prioritized that french toast because it was too good to let it go to waste. As for my boyfriend's meal, he thought his burger was good and that the ingredients were nice & fresh. But the fries were another story - he was disappointed as he asked for them to be crispy. But when the plate made it to our table, it looks almost as if it were fried in bulk and then refried (just look at the picture). Other than the fries -- the hostess, waitress, and service was great. My experience with this restaurant was straight TRASH. Daughter wanted pancakes never had cornmeal in a pancake before. She didn't eat it. Then my bf and me ordered 2 burgers no amount of water of the sea could quench a thirst because it was so DRY AND FLAVORLESS. We paid $70 and left most of our food. Service was okay. We asked for the check really fast and waiter took our plates full of food. He should had asked if we even liked it.
