So it's very rare that you get to be both a patron and also of service to a restaurant. We actually did some work here not too long ago, and let me tell you -- the kitchen was SPOTLESS. As someone who works around restaurants regularly, I usually avoid eating at places after seeing the conditions behind the scenes because, honestly, some kitchens can be pretty rough. But Morning Fork was the complete opposite. Super clean, organized, and well kept. No nasty smells, no chaos... just a really well-run spot. Because of that, I decided to finally give the food a try and one word comes to mind: bomb.com. This was actually my first time ever trying chicken and waffles, and I can honestly say every other chicken and waffles dish I've had since then has been disappointing compared to this place. I would probably say one of my favorite breakfast spots in sac. Why? It's a no frills non experimental mom and pop shop. Yes they do have the unique pancakes and French toast with fruits etc but I came to see what a good old fashioned French toast, eggs benny and biscuits and gravy were all about. I'm giving this five stars because I love classic 60s 70s types of diners where they have just good basic breakfast.. Nothing special and fancy but just good comfort breakfast food like biscuits and gravy and Eggs Benedict with great hashbrowns. Their service was super attentive. We kept on getting coffee and water and nonstop. The interior is what you would expect of a basic diner with brown chairs and seating at the bar. It's what I would want in a place like this. Haven't been here in years and didn't really remember my last visit, but we were walking around Midtown and wanted lunch. Luckily, we were seated without a wait around noon even though it was busy inside. My girlfriend ordered the Belgian waffle and I got the maple sage fried chicken. Food came out very quickly, and the waiter was a bit blunt but attentive. The country potatoes were really good, fluffy yet crispy. The chicken itself was great, crispy and juicy without being greasy. It was a solid fried chicken, but there was almost no maple or sage flavor, which was a bit confusing. The sausage gravy was absolutely stellar. Honestly, the best way to judge a breakfast spot is by its gravy, and theirs had a lot of layers of flavor, deep and rich. Went for a breakfast before our sandbox experience. Friendly and welcoming staff. Our server was very pleasant to make recommendations based on dietary restrictions. What a fun, hoppin' joint! Joined some out of town friends for Sunday brunch here recently. Friendly service and food was delivered pretty quickly. We shared chicken and waffles and the traditional eggs Benedict with loaded hash browns. The latter was quite good with tasty hollandaise sauce, but the loaded hash browns were a bit disappointing as the cheese wasn't even melted (cold hash browns?). The waffle was good but the chicken was on the dry side and I didn't love the corn meal crust. Friends had a BLT (looked good) and a single huge pancake with a side of sausage patties. There's nothing particularly awful about this place but it wouldn't be my pick for breakfast or brunch in Sacramento. The service here is good. There are many staff ready and wiling to help you. So much so that I had three individuals ask for my drink order and based on the loud nature of the restaurant received an extra drink that we didn't really need. No worries though, we were fine paying for that mistake. The food is good, but I haven't found my favorite thing yet. The chicken and waffles is a hefty plate and both done really well. I will say the breading on the chicken is very unique, perhaps a cornmeal? The same breading comes on the country fried steak which does not adhere as well. The meat in that was also very tough and hard to cut and chew. The hash browns were fine and the biscuits and gravy were a bit better than average. THE MORNING FORK is easy to find and there are plenty plenty of street metered parking. We had to wait a bit for it to open because we got there too early. But do you believe it? Our group was not the only ones there by the time it opened! I don't know what it used to be and I haven't confirmed my speculation, but it looks like this restaurant didn't bother gutting an old diner and decided to use the existing counter, stools and booths. If CFS is on the menu, I'm going to order it. I regret doing so at this establishment. The breading fell completely from the steak and the steak was hard and chewy. The country potatoes were soft and greasy and the sourdough bread, hella hard! Not enjoyable at all. My son liked his burrito (he's easy to please when it comes to food) and my daughter in law said the breakfast burger was pretty good. Not sure what all the hype is about but I'll never return. $80 for mediocre meals-no thanks. Service was the best thing going. I drink my coffee black so it was perfect. Staff were constantly refilling our coffee-another positive score. So what did we order? Omelettes. 1) Vegetarian: fresh seasonal veggies that consisted of asparagus, broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, and cheese. all the veggies were fresh and not mushy-still had a little texture and bite- nice. But the omelette itself was cooked to perfection: fluffy and tender. The hash browns were also very good. crispy outside and tender in the middle. the only thing that needs improvement was the english muffin. blah. should've ordered the sourdough toast instead. Came here on a Friday a little after noon. A short wait for a table of 4. Once seated the server was quick to take our drink and food order. Appreciated how they are able to make customizations to the food orders as my friends removed and added proteins to what they ordered. Everything was well seasoned, not too salty which you'd expect from corned beef. The hash browns was fresh, crispy and thankfully not greasy at all. For the table we split the pistachio waffle. I wish the waffle itself was fresh - it felt like it had been sitting out for a while. It wasn't too sweet. And the butter it came with was a nice balance. No need to add syrup as it was flavorful on its own. I appreciate the old school diner vibe. It was a bit windy the day I came and leaves would blow inside the restaurant so the floor had a lot of leaves that I wish they cleared out but only did as they were closing. I've had The Morning Fork on my list for some time and finally had a chance to go for brunch. Arrived around 10a and it was already crowded. You put your name on the list right outside the door unless you want to sit at the counter and there is a seat available. We sat my the door so there was a breeze every time the door opened but the only booth that was available. As I said.... They were busy! Seated and ready to eat. Everything looked so good but I chose the Canadian Eggs Benedict. I really liked the option of a half or full order. I hardly ever finish my breakfast/brunch meals especially if it's large portions. Also tried the sweet bacon on the side and some waffles. First bite... everything tasted SO GOOD and with so many flavors. I finished all my breakfast but a couple pieces of my potatoes. Very welcoming individuals, and the location is deceptively larger than you would imagine. The moment you sit down, they take care of you. The first day I came here, I had the chicken and waffle, which is the best one I've had in ages. The chicken was moist and the waffle batter was flavorful. I ate at The Morning Fork last month as I met up with two friends for breakfast, and from the moment I walked in, I could tell this is a quintessential diner. Even though we were seated in the back/side room, I still felt part of the hustle and bustle of a very popular breakfast spot. The menu is full of [very] tempting options but the French Toast won me over. It arrived topped with a cloud of whipped butter and fresh strawberries and I devoured it so quickly that I finished before my (male!) dining companions even put their forks down. It was that good - soft, sweet, and perfectly balanced. To my side and across the table, the breakfast burrito and eggs Benedict seemed to be hits as well with both of my friends giving nods of approval for their selections. Our server struck the perfect balance of attentive, patient, and genuinely friendly which made the experience even better. The endless coffee refills sealed the deal as my mug never sat empty and the staff consistently made sure it stayed hot and fresh. The Morning Fork seems to include everything you might want in a breakfast spot: great food, warm service, and an atmosphere that is both local and welcoming. I ordered the Two Eggs Choose One breakfast (I had 2 eggs over medium, the applewood bacon, sourdough toast, and fruit cup), which is my "test" breakfast when I go to a new place (I figure that if they get that wrong, there's no reason to ever go back). I was not disappointed. The eggs and toast were perfect. The bacon was exactly how my mother liked it (she preferred extra crispy. I like it a little less crispy, but enjoyed it. Thought about my mom and toasted her with a piece of bacon). The big surprise was the fruit cup. Not the yucky grapes-and-melon pieces that I usually get. Fresh pineapple, blueberries, and strawberries! The ambience is reminiscent of the places that I hung out in high school and my first year of college. Very nostalgic and comfortable. The coffee brought back memories of the hours spent at the diners I loved. And there was lots of happy chatter from the full house that we joined. The service is great.
