We visited Frog & Slim for Mother's Day and overall had a very enjoyable experience. The food was excellent -- thoughtfully prepared, well-executed, and the unique menu clearly reflected the creativity and skill of the chef. Every dish we ordered was flavorful and memorable, and the quality of the food was easily the highlight of the evening. That said, given the restaurant's reputation and price point, we expected a more elevated dining atmosphere. The seating consisted of simple bench-style arrangements that felt more casual than anticipated, and the smaller layout made the restaurant quite loud and crowded during peak hours. Since every table was full for the holiday, conversations carried easily throughout the space, and the lack of high-backed seating offered very little privacy between tables. We had also anticipated a slightly more upscale ambiance overall. My girlfriend and I dressed for what we expected would be a fine dining experience, but the atmosphere leaned much more casual, with many guests dressed in jeans and T-shirts. Of course, this is more of an observation than a criticism, but it did contribute to the experience feeling less refined than expected. In the end, the outstanding food ultimately made up for many of the atmosphere-related shortcomings. While the ambiance did not fully align with our expectations for such a highly rated restaurant, the quality of the cuisine absolutely stood out and is what we will remember most. read more

Been here a couple times and it never disappoints. The interior is lit with romantic lighting and subtle partitioning for noise. Street parking is a silage close by. If you're willing to walk a black, you can find free parking. The deviled eggs are silky and a unique flavor. The crispy skin salmon was amazing. The corn soubise was so delicate and compliments the salmon perfectly. Don't skip the roasted cauliflower. Our server told us it was created as part of the Sacramento vegan chef challenge but it's now made its way onto the menu. So many flavors, perfectly roasted, earthy and spicy. Chefs kiss. The scallops were done to perfection as well. Perfectly crisp top, sweet and tender underbelly. I finally had the chance to check out Frog & Slim on Friday night for dinner! Located in Midtown on K Street -- the inside was small and intimate. To start we ordered the Peach Fizz, Cucumber Basil Gimlet and Truffle Fries to share. The drinks were great and refreshing and the fries were perfectly crispy - the garlic aioli tied it all together. We were hungry so we each ordered an entree which we later learned was a mistake - we should have just shared 1 or 2 entrees because it was a lot of food. We ordered the Braised Pork Shank, Dry-Aged Ribeye and Chicken Confit -- we also shared a Caesar Salad. Everything was plated beautifully and I enjoyed my Ribeye, but we all thought the entrees were a little under seasoned for our liking. We didn't send anything back, but we did unfortunately have to ask for salt and pepper. Our server was very apologetic and even comped us a free dessert which she did not need to do, but we greatly appreciated it. It was the bread pudding and it was so good! Overall, I enjoyed the meal. I wasn't blown away by anything, but it was a good meal and I would definitely come back and give them another chance. We began the evening with drinks and shared the Golden Beet Salad, which was a refreshing and vibrant start to the meal. For the main course, I had the Braised Pork Shank. This was easily the highlight of my night. The meat was incredibly tender literally falling off the bone and full of flavor. My friend ordered The Dry-Aged Ribeye. We shared the Bread Pudding, which was the perfect comfort-food finish. A huge thank you to the staff for the complimentary birthday truffle to close out the night. I started with the soup while she had the hush puppies; we both ordered the steak sirloin for second course, I had the carrot cake dessert and she had the bananas foster bread pudding. For my birthday they provided a complimentary chocolate truffle and little candle. I also got the mango mocktail which I have had once before, did not disappoint. Def a 3.5 Stars but not enough to be a 4 Came here for the Valentine's Day preset menu at 135$/person. Was honestly not wowed by the food for the price. Waitress was attentive, sweet, and hospitable. Service itself was not once an issue. Blini was yum. One bite and it was gone ! Not enough for me to analyze the flavors blini itself was cooked fresh which I greatly appreciated. Steak tartare could've used a bit more salt. Would've really appreciated if the cornichon was cut up and mixed into the tartare. Loved the grilled lime on top. Huge citrus fan here. Bisque was all heavy cream. This one was a hugeeee miss for me. The abundance of peppercorns were way too strong and overtook any flavors from the soup. Literally had to avoid the peppercorns to drink the soup. Filet came rare despite ordering medium rare. Notified the manager/owner and they took care of it immediately. Second time it came with a better sear and was cooked to my liking; though my crab topping was wiped off rip, that so good. Pommes purée and Bernaise came cold.... I'm not sure if that was intentional but I personally like my food hot. Asparagus was actually seasoned to perfection and just dripping in butter yum ! Downside was that it was very very overcooked. Could've swallowed the whole thing without chewing lol. Overall service was amazing. Dessert was delectable (how can you go wrong with sugar). But not wowed by the food for the price. Finally got to Frog & Slim for a first visit, just under the wire to squeeze in Dine Downtown 2026! Received a warm welcome from the hostess and presumably the owner/manager(?) and were seated right away. I was a little put off to have been left waiting for attention from our waiter until after they attended to two other tables that were seated after us, but whatever. The wait wasn't excessive... The place is groovy all around ~ kind of an upscale music-inspired diner vibe going on. I dug it. Their colorful under-lit bar counter is beautiful. He had an Old Fashioned and I had a cognac French 75. We're here for the classic fancy cocktails! We ordered one of everything on the Dine Downtown menu except the salmon. All good, some better than others. I particularly enjoyed the creamy potato and leek soup and the carrot cake. He got the pan-seared sirloin and it was quite good. I got the Meyer lemon fettuccine, which was delicious even though it seemed lacking in lemon flavor and the toast was a little too blackened for my liking. But the generous portion was enough for me to enjoy a second time for lunch the next day. I'll gladly return to this joint. read more

We love Frog & Slim. We went there to celebrate my birthday and we had the best time. The service is the greatest. Our server Ashley is attentive and engaging. Robert, the owner, came by to chat, as did the bartender (who, BTW, makes a great Sazerac). We each ordered the braised pork shank (I'd been dreaming about it since my last birthday), and it was every bit as good as I remembered it. The bed of mashed potatoes is heavenly. Ashley brought me a birthday truffle, and we shared the delicious bread pudding. We enjoy the comfort, music, and artwork. The backbar is lovely. I had brunch at Frog & Slim and it certainly didn't disappoint. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict and it was pretty decent for an eggs benedict. It was the perfect portion size for brunch though! My friend went with the artichoke & cauliflower sandwich, and after stealing a bite, I can confirm it was so flavorful. It came with shoestring fries which is always a win. For a Saturday afternoon, it didn't feel too busy, and the staff were super friendly and attentive throughout. A great spot for a relaxed brunch in Sacramento. read more

We visited Frog and Slim for the Dine Downtown promotion where you get an entree, main and dessert for $45. Overall the experience was decent but not good enough to go back. We had a party of 6 and were seated in a booth shoulder to shoulder (we booked 10 days in advance). We are average to smaller sized people, a party of 6 large people would not have fit. There were only two menus on the table - one regular and one for Dine Downtown. I ordered the hush puppies (sauce was tasty and the hush puppies had a good amount of crab inside so they had a nice crab flavor). For main I had the pasta. The bread was a generous size and had a great texture. The pasta (house made) had a good texture and bite. The cream was a little bland. The chicken breast on top was a good side but a little dry. The bananas Foster was disappointing. There was only a small amount of banana and cream on top. The pudding was dry and it was slightly warm making it taste even more dense and it was bland. Our server was friendly. Overall, we had a nice night out and I'm glad we got to try this restaurant. read more

It's rare these days to get out for a nice dinner so I was really excited to check out Frog & Slim for a date night. From start to finish, I really enjoyed the dinner experience. I went here on a Friday night, no reservation but I was able to snag a couple of spots at the bar where we were sat at immediately. Atmosphere was casual but classy. Host was attentive to us and being at the bar got us access to some tasty drinks rather quick. Overall was really impressed with the service and how quick our food came out. Everything we got was delicious. Of the appetizers, the creole arancini was amazing. I loved the heat of creole spice. I had the dry aged ribeye while my date went with the braised pork shank. Both courses meant business. Food was cooked to perfection and we both had plenty to take home. Our waiter suggested frying up an egg and eating it with the pork shank which we did the next day. Thank you for the suggestion! Dessert to cap the night was not an option. We went with the pumpkin crème brûlée because it's that season! Being the chocolate fein I am, I got the truffles. Total bill was about $100/person including drinks and appetizers. Highly recommend the ribeye. Went for this years dine downtown. Was very busy and parking was insane even so the greeter was kind and we were seated only a couple minutes after our reservation. They seemed a bit short staffed and rushed but everyone was still very kind. First course was the hush puppies and soup. My friends loved the soup they said the flavor and texture were great! I had the hush puppies and the flavor was good but they were a bit dry. Second course was the salmon for me an wow it was soooo good!! Combo with the beans and sauce I loved it! My friends liked their dishes as well. I should have gotten the bread pudding for dessert. Wasn't expecting the raisins in the carrot cake which I didn't love but the frosting was SO GOOD! Took my significant other for her birthday dinner. I did some research and Frog and Slim was my choice. First let me say that the experience was fantastic from beginning to end. The space was very understated with music themed art on the wall. The menu was chock full of good looking choices, great looking meat and fish dishes with everything in between. We got the delicious truffle fries for an appetizer, very flavourful and crunchy begin our meal. My lovely companion got the braised lamb shank and I had the mussels and shrimp picatta pasta. Mine was chock full of seafood with a tasty sauce, delicious sauce. I tried the lamb shank amazing. I also had a great speciality bourbon cocktail which was also great. We ran into Slim at the restaurant, a most genial host and we let him know about our most enjoyable experience at his establishment. We will be back with our friends. read more

We were recently really craving steaks. This was our second visit here. Again we had a great dining experience. As we walked in we were greeted by Robert. He is the Slim in Frog and Slim. He quickly seated us. Our server, Ashley did a great job of answering our questions and handling our order. We both started with the refreshing cucumber basil gimlet. Our appetizer of deviled eggs was delicious. Very smooth with a little smoked salmon and caviar on top. We love caviar, but these would be a great introduction to caviar. The flavors blended so well. The caviar was more like a subtle salty whisper. We both ordered ribeye steaks medium rare. They were perfect. Probably the best steaks we've had here in Sacramento. We share$ the bread pudding desert. This was accompanied by a splash of Port wine to enhance the flavors blended. We talked with Robert about how much we enjoyed our meal. He told us that Frog and Slim is one of the top 100 date night locations in the U.S. We hope many more accolades come their way. read more

Frog & Slim has a great Midtown location. The parking can be scarce though since it's a busy street. The inside is nice-to-casual with jazz themed decor. Their chandeliers are a pretty addition. There is indoor and outdoor seating plus a handful of seats at the bar. The service was good. We were greeted and seated right away. It was loud in there though, so it was hard to hear our soft-spoken server. The menu is limited but has some good options. The drink menu is fairly robust in comparison. We were there on a busy Friday night - graduation and Father's Day weekend, so we did have to wait awhile for our drinks. There was a bit of a lull between our appetizers and entrees as well. We all liked our drinks, however the entrees were hit or miss. The dry-aged ribeye tasted good but a little overcooked for my husband's preference. The sides - potato and green beans were a bit undercooked. I liked my pasta, but the mussels were a bit stronger in flavor than I liked. I set them aside and ate the shrimp instead. The portions were good sized. The desserts were delicious. I think you can't go wrong on the desserts here. They even brought us an extra house made truffle for my husband's birthday. Overall, I think our meal was fine, but the atmosphere wasn't quite what we were expecting. I also think enough of our party was on the fence about their entrees that I'm giving fewer stars than I usually would. I think we'd come back for a more casual dining experience and maybe try some different menu items next time. read more

Dinner at Frog and Slim is a great way to start 2026 and amazing place to celebrate a year of being married. You will need to arrive a little early as there is no dedicated parking. Finding parking on 16th street can turn in 10 minutes of going in circles. But if you're lucky you can park in a stall located directly behind the restaurant underneath the apartments. Once the doors open to the restaurant you are greeted with some nice jazz and cozy decor. The staff are friendly and the service is GREAT! Although, our waiter didn't give a great breakdown of the menu as our neighboring table they were tentative and patient. The food is five star! We order the olives and deviled eggs. Not your traditional southern style deviled eggs but still delicious. I enjoyed a smooth old fashion. My wife loved the cucumber basil Gimlet. We decided to share Frog and Slim salad and the chicken confit. The salad was huge. The chicken confit was tender and the sauce was yummy. It paired great with the wedge salad. Overall, we enjoyed our anniversary date a Frog and Slim. I hope to see it grow and add live music. That would be a nice touch! Next time I want to try the rack of Lamb. read more

I love this restaurant. I went here for the Easter brunch special and it was delicious. The special menu was so well made and the ingredients were fresh. The service is always amazing. My second espresso martini glass had a crack in it and the servers didn't notice it. When I brought it to her attention she immediately apologized and offered me another but I just requested a new glass. Management did remove the charge from my bill. The ambiance is a grown and mature vibe, this is not a sports bar. The owner is very nice and friendly, that goes for all the staff. They have the best espresso martinis in the city. read more

However it was getting to the point that he'd order his and I'd drink it, so I decided I should just get my own! Last night we started with the bruschetta - OMG. The reservation time was 7pm. Each of us enjoyed our menu selections . The only complaint I had was with my Rib Eye Steak, I ordered it med well , however it came out very well done , I mentioned it to our server, who rectified the situation immediately and I reorder my steak med which I never do , however it came back perfect. Flavorful and seasoned to perfection! ..For dessert we had the Crème brûlée which was good , however the bread pudding was a little taste of heaven, so delicious! A good spot downtown. It wasn't a busy Thursday early evening when we came here for dinner. I got the Cucumber Basil Gimlet, it was okay, sweeter than what I was expecting (and I like sweet drinks). We ordered the beef carpaccio which was good, but honestly I was expecting the plate to be covered as I have gotten elsewhere. For the main entrees, I ordered the Golden Beet Salad and it was pretty good, and again I was expecting a little more than how it was served. The Wagyu Burger was good, overly huge, a little overwhelming. Overall, food was okay, they are small portions (except the burger) so if you're hungry and expecting a decent fulfilling meal, you may have to order a couple of entrees to feel good. I also ordered the Braised Pork Shank Braised Au Jus | Yukon Potato Mash | Chutney | Pea Shoots. Omg my food was so flavorful and the meat was tender I'm talking meat falling off the bone. When Italian Goes Missing in Action... Went there with 3 friends tonight. It wasn't packed but decently busy. The place itself is small and kind of cute. Sadly, the food was a disaster mixed with friendly but almost non-existent service. We waited almost an hour for our food. I asked if my piccata pasta with clams and shrimp could be cooked very al dente, and the waitress told me the pasta was already pre-cooked... not a good sign. I still ate it because I was starving. It was lemony, but the capers were almost invisible, and it was far from a true piccata. Traditionally, piccata should have fresh pasta texture, bold lemon, briny capers, and a buttery white wine balance--this was just flat and tired. For appetizers, we ordered bruschetta and olives. The olives came with no dish for the pits, so we ended up leaving them on the same plates where we were trying to set our bruschetta. Details count! The bruschetta itself was overdressed, loaded with halved cherry tomatoes drowning in balsamic. Too sweet instead of the fresh, garlicky, vibrant flavors you expect. The bread was way too toasted, tasted like store-bought bread thrown in the oven, not rustic Italian. We spent close to $100 per person, but honestly, it wasn't worth even half of that. The best part of dinner? A glass of sparkling rosé... which I can get pretty much anywhere. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend? It's a nice place inside. Well appointed and nicely laid out. We made reservations just to be sure we'd be accommodated. The mocktail selection was nice. We skipped appetizers as we had some hearty entrees in mind. Our waitress was very nice and took the time to give complete answers to the few questions we had. We ordered the steak and asked that it be cooked medium rare. When it arrived it was cooked medium well. I encouraged my wife to have it refried but she opted to eat it as is. I was able to get a bite. It was very tasty but also a very thin cut. I had the halibut which was very nice. I found the pepper to be too spicy. I'm a fan oh heat. I like it balanced to the dish though. This was just too much. The reviews trended so positive. Perhaps we'll try the brunch and see how that goes. read more
