    Steak and Trout
    Connie B.

Cañon There were plenty of tables but we still had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated with a reservation. The ambiance was nice. We ordered the Cured albacore crudo which was a little fishy but you can taste the yuzu with a kick. This was nothing special and not worth. The Tots was the best thing on the menu. Crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. They were not greasy and the Mole has a ton of flavor that added complexity to the dish. I loved the pickled onions cause it adds acidity but I would not come back to this restaurant for it but I would recommend if you wanted to come eat here. The Trout had a cool presentation but that was the only thing going for it. Flavor itself was bland and just not desirable. The Steak was good but I have had better at steakhouse. Overall nothing stood out and I would not be coming back but don't get me wrong. It's not bad but not good.

You can easily tell why this place is Michelin Bib Gourmand--we spent just over $200 on dinner and it was WAY better than many meals I've spent a lot more on. We arrived early for our reservation and waited at the bar with a cocktail. Cocktails were good, though not super distinctive. The food is where this place REALLY shines. The tots with mole sauce? I could eat those every day. The scallop crudo was both rich and refreshing. And the duck legs? *insert drool emoji here* The vibe is warm and lively, and that's true of the staff, too. So welcoming and kind. Our waitress even gave us a great recommendation for where to get a nightcap in Sacramento afterwards (Butterscotch Den, so fun!)

We were staying downtown for a work event and made a reservation to try Canon. Kyle took great care of our table and gave us solid recommendations. We ended up ordering the tots, oysters, citrus salad, peas, asparagus, steak, and finished with coffee and the rice pudding. Everything felt unique and thoughtfully prepared. Dinner had a relaxed pace, and the ambiance was casual without being too loud. Street parking was tough on a Friday evening and we had to call ahead to let them know we'd be a few minutes late, so plan accordingly.

I love how accessible this Michelin Star restaurant is, while ingredients are fresh and dishes are innovative, theres a mix of dishes and price points that people can enjoy, for lunch, the bar, etc. We went in February for a birthday dinner so the dishes were still centered around winter ingredients like squash, cabbage, truffle, citrus, etc. We ordered the bread, scallop crudo, chicken for the main dish, miso cabbage and potatoes for sides. Then the 50/50 chocolate mousse with salted caramel for dessert. We also got their version of old fashioned, and the bartender made a hibiscus mocktail for me. The best thing was the miso cabbage & dessert in my opinion. The chicken was fantastic, the crispy skin was divine, wish it had more of the jus and squash shavings! The service was great, casual service and still professional. The server was knowledgeable about the menu. Loved the cedar wood ceilings and the black accents. It's a beautiful restaurant, but one thing is I wished the seats were more comfy, some people had more armchairs but we didn't.

This place wasn't bad, but I think for Michelin guide I might've gotten my expectations a little too high. Price wise, very fair, especially for what you get. The restaurant is well decorated both inside and the patio. Our server was very kind. I particularly did not like many of the sides we got. But to each their own, maybe others would love it! We got the badger flame beets, scallop crudo, tots, butternut squash, and shrimp beignets. The crudo was refreshing and I liked the squash, but I wasn't a big fan of the rest. For mains, we got duck & New York strip. The steak was the best. The duck was not as tender as I probably would've liked. We finished with dessert, which I think we got a rice pudding and cheesecake. The cheesecake had very sour kumquats that we ended up taking off. But the cake itself and pudding were good

Had a great experience at Canon! I absolutely loved the chicken drumsticks! The flavor and char on the outside was so unique and delicious, what a creative combo to put mole on the chicken. Also, the squash was surprisingly good! I don't usually like squash but this one was so creamy and rich in flavor, I really enjoyed this. The outdoor seating was cute and cozy and the service was spectacular. Highly recommend! Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 Marcels foodie score: easy 5

A chef-driven neighborhood restaurant featuring sharable and seasonal cuisine in a warm and welcoming environment. Lively bar with artisanal cocktails, and their menu focuses on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients designed for sharing. In 2025, Canon earned its 6th Michelin Bib Gourmand this is a highly acclaimed restaurant.

I think this is a great place for a date night or celebrating an anniversary. I made an appointment just in case and we were seated right away. Parking just might be difficult since it's downtown. We ordered 4 dishes between the two of us and it was more than enough! We enjoyed both of the chicken dishes we got. The drumsticks had this very herby, Mediterranean-like flavor and the meat came right off the bone. The whole chicken wasn't dry at all (was still good the next day) and paired really well with the broccoli dish. The shrimp beignets were decent, but we couldn't really taste the shrimp.

I had a good experience at Cannon. To start, we made reservations and my wife and I were seated promptly. Wait time (for food) was about 20-25 minutes. The ambience was nice and peaceful. The lighting was great. We started with the sourdough bread with cultured butter. This was a 5/5. The bread was heavy in a good way, and the butter was just excellent. We also got the chicken drumsticks, which were melt-in-your-mouth delicious and they fell apart perfectly. The only downside was there were just two! For the main meal, we got the steak medium-rare, but it was about a 3.5/5. It felt overcooked and nothing special. The appetizer overall was great though, and we enjoyed it. The mocktail was also a nice touch. All in all, it was about a 3.8/5 dining experience for us. The only thing we didn't really like was the layout of the food/menu--everything is meant to be "shared," so you have to order meats, vegetables, and sides separately, which felt odd.

The date spot to top them all! We save Canon for special occasions, but when we do go, we go all out. Their service is attentive, their ingredients are fresh, and the environment allows you to truly enjoy one of the best meals you'll ever have. The menu changes often, so I won't get too specific of what to order. Canon has a few staples I can recommend: the tots, the drumsticks, and the oysters. The tots are crispy and sit on a bed of yummy mole. The drumsticks are scrumptious, covered in a spiced sauce and sit atop a yogurt sauce. And the oysters!! With their homemade vinegars in the cutest droppers, the oysters hit the spot every time. Overall, you're in for a treat! Love this spot and we can't wait to come back!

We're so pleased with our dining experience at Canon. Canon offers relaxed yet intimate and romantic vibes and in my opinion is the perfect date night spot. The service was excellent and the food was spot on. Dishes are served family style and the portions for most dishes are more than enough for two people to share. We look forward to coming again and are excited to see upcoming menu changes as we dive into spring!

Me and my girlfriends came here for a birthday dinner and we all absolutely loved it!!!! We got an assortment of items to share and we all had high expectations for all of the items! Justified completely! The food was amazing, service was absolutely wonderful and attentive, and the space itself was gorgeous. Definitely a must visit spot if you can get a reservation!

Our family dined at Canon for the first time to celebrate a special occasion. They have an intriguing seasonal menu and family style servings. We were all excited to try them out, and they did not disappoint! The restaurant is a bit tucked away in East Sac. Inside and outside on the patio, it's a beautiful restaurant. The patio is very comfortable and barely feels like you're outside. It's entirely covered with shades that get rolled up once the sun goes down. We had reservations and were greeted and seated right away. The food came out in a timely manner, and we ended up ordering in courses - appetizers, entrees than dessert. There were five of us so we ordered three small plates and two entrees to share. We were indecisive about dessert, so we ordered all four of them! No regrets! Everything was delicious. Potato wise - we all preferred the tater tots in mole to the steakhouse style. The Dutch crunch roll was shareable. The tomatoes were fresh and delicious. The steak and pork collar were both beautifully cooked. The pork was exceptional with a super unique and flavorful sauce. Each of the desserts were tasty as well. Sopapillas were the crowd favorite! Looking forward to returning someday to try another of their seasonal takes! So glad we finally made time to dine here.

I remember from the video they said this was considered a "bartenders bar",the kind of spot that that bartenders and workers in the industry would hangout after their shifts-I liked the sound of that. Walking up to where I thought the bar was located,it was kinda funny because it was just an innocent looking blue door with the words "Cocktail" along the side-doesn't look like much at all,I'd imagine I've walked by this place many times without thinking of ever going in-that was changing this time. When I walked in I 100% knew I was stumbling upon something special-it was a tiny place but it was overflowing with energy, not many booths in this bar and it may be the smallest bar I've ever been to but it felt special.Looking at the clientele I felt like I was with my people,it was so cool in there. This is the kind of place I would take my wife and any of my friends before a special night out and be it a dinner or a concert or a production at Safe Performing Arts Center and feel like it would set the right vibe for the night. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the Ice Blocks part of midtown and want to experience an awesome bar that feels very unique-head on down to Frank and have a drink or two-you won't regret it-I think I may have found my new favorite bar in all of Sacramento. The restaurant is quite small inside with very limited seating, but the outdoor patio is beautiful. Be ready to likely sit outside, but enjoy the atmosphere. We started with the mezcal old fashioned and the cucumber jalapeño margarita. The mezcal old fashioned was a delicious smoky twist on the classic cocktail. The cucumber jalapeño margarita was refreshing, though a little sweeter than I expected and missing the spicy kick I was hoping for. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, but the portion was quite small and barely enough for two people in my opinion. The salsa was also small but it was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken tacos were excellent, with tender chicken that was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The enmoladas were also fantastic and are a great way to sample Oaxaca's three unique mole sauces, each with its own distinct character. One thing to note is that the chicken filling is intentionally prepared very simply in traditional Oaxacan cuisine so that the mole remains the star of the dish. If you prefer heavily seasoned meat, this dish may be milder than what you are used to. Overall, everything we tried was delicious and offered a wonderful taste of authentic Oaxacan flavors. Our meal for two included one cocktail each, chips and guacamole, three chicken tacos, and three enmoladas, and came to about $100 with tip.

NOT THE FOOD: - no parking lot; only street parking. I went for a very early dinner (a little before 5p) so no problem with parking. THE FOOD AND DRINK: - Classic Mezcal Margarita: this was a fine, properly made cocktail. None of that nasty "margarita mix" here. $9 on happy hour. woo! - Guacamole: umm.. disappointing... rather bland; though, not diluted with sour cream or anything like that.. just kinda tasted like mashed up avocados.. there was a sprinkling of some red powder on top that I couldn't taste.. I didn't taste teh mint, basil, nor jalapeno that's described on the menu. It also came out refrigerator-cold, so that kinda muted the flavors as well. But I let it sit out throughout my meal to try it after it had "warmed" up a bit, but alas... still bland.. it was served with some salsa as well, which was quite nice. - Enmoladas: this is a trio of chicken enchiladas with each of their 3 moles: red, yellow, and black. The red and black mole were great; the yellow was kinda bland (at least, in comparison). Unfortunately, the chicken in my enchiladas was super bland. It tasted like there was zero seasoning & that they just poached it? And, the pieces of chicken were pretty thick too, which accentuated the blandness... so, I kinda mashed it up as I went along so I could get that delicious mole flavor mixed in with the chicken. - Tlayuda: this is kinda like tostada. it was okay. not great; not terrible. just fine. it ate kinda dry... like it needed some sauce... and, some spice would've been nice as well. this one will not really fill you up; it's more of an appetizer. - Kid's cheese quesadilla: this thing is pretty small; it uses the same tortillas as the tacos, so it's not very big/filling at all, but at least it comes with beans and rice. so, while I loved the margarita and the mole, there was a fair amount of disappointment along the way. perhaps, I'll stop by again if I'm in the neighborhood & would like a nice mezcal or tequila-based cocktail and a small bite to eat, but I'll think twice about having a full dinner.

This place is called The Green Room for a reason. If you are a dedicated phytophile, this place is…read morefor you. Plants plants and more plants! You should check out their restroom too. Apparently the plants hanging from the ceiling are hand watered. Sometimes I can barely keep my little desk plant alive in my office -- talk about dedication! Lovely space with plush seating and friendly service. They had a special going on featuring Girl Dinner - salad and a cocktail. Now that's my type of dinner. I don't know if this is still being offered and their website didn't list it. They do have Golden Hour from 4 - 6 Tuesday - Saturday and all day on Tuesday! https://thegreenroomsac.com/menu/ Fun spot for date night or any night for that matter. Last time I was here it was all women from the servers to the guests. No Y chromosomes to be found, yeah I guess you wouldn't come here for Man Dinner.

The decor is super cute and definitely one of those places you want to take photos in. The cocktails are really good, and I have to give a big shoutout to Mateo behind the bar. He always takes great care of me and my friends and makes amazing drinks and is super thoughtful! The food is just as solid. The menu has a nice variety, and the house fries are honestly so good. I can't say enough about their Wednesday girl dinner. You get a cocktail, a salad, and fries, which is kind of the perfect combo. My only wish is that they were open for lunch because this would be such a great daytime spot too. Overall, love this place and will definitely be back soon.
