Had such a great dinner at Good Neighbor! The food overall was delicious and there were definitely a few standouts that I would come back for! I got the steak frites and ordered my steak rare. It came out cooked perfectly and the steak itself was SO flavorful and seasoned really well! The sauce underneath was a little on the salty side for me, but paired with the steak and fries everything still came together really nicely. My friends also ordered the half chicken entrée and they both really enjoyed theirs! The absolute STAR though was the pavé fries!!! They were AMAZING. Literally my friends and I inhaled them Crispy, delicious, and easily one of our favorite things we ordered. Definitely a must! The warm bread was probably the only miss for us. The bread itself was okay, but the butter had a pretty strong, pungent flavor and scent that none of us really enjoyed. This review is WELL overdue, so some of the items mentioned may not be on their most recent menu! I came here for dinner with a group of girlfriends on a weekday. We were seated within 10 minutes of arrival - they did not accept reservations. We started with the Spinach and Artichoke Dip ($15) and Fritto Misto ($22) and drinks. I was so impressed with their Freezer Martini ($16) - the presentation was fun, and the amount given was well worth the price. Everyone ordered their own respective entrees, which included the Pasta Bolognese ($21) with Meatballs ($3), Seared Salmon ($29), and the Double-Cut Pork Chop ($29). We love supporting local spots, so this past weekend we booked a brunch reservation at Good Neighbor. The outdoor patio, shade, and overall atmosphere were great, and our server was wonderful and understanding throughout our meal. The food value on the brunch side, however, missed the mark. A couple of us ordered the $19 chorizo open-face omelette. While we knew going in that it didn't come with sides, what was presented simply did not match the menu description. It arrived as a disappointing 7-inch open-faced omelette. The peppers were barely specks, and the potatoes were virtually nonexistent (something we realized while discussing the dish later). On top of that, the small amount of "chorizo" tasted and looked like plain breakfast sausage. I completely understand that businesses need to turn a profit, pay fair wages, and cover rent in a prime location, but the margin here was too glaring for what was served. I genuinely thought they had served us all vegetarian omelettes on accident, it felt like an incomplete plate. I had never felt taken advantage of like I did when I received my meal, so I had to send it back to the kitchen. I swapped it for the roughly 13-inch pepperoni pizza ($23). For just $4 more, the contrast was very apparent. The pizza was fresh, delicious, well-portioned, and fed three of us (including the guests who kept their omelettes and were still hungry). While the staff resolved my plate graciously, the brunch menu as currently portioned falls short. If management adds proper sides or reworks the portions to match the pricing, it could be a solid brunch destination. This is the newest addition to the growing Urban Roots family of restaurants, and we absolutely love it! It's really shot up to the top of our go-to's list. Firstly I'm so happy that another restaurant took over this space, because the space itself is just gorgeous with the tall ceilings and the preserved original brick wall from the old orchard supply/crystal ice warehouse (which the bar sits against now). This is probably the most "formal" of urban roots' restaurants, since it is actually full service. However, the variety of menu items makes this one of our top choices for a weekend night out or even a quick dinner midweek. Our favorite items are the bolognese, the burger w/ tallow fries (best fries in Sacramento I dare say), and whatever rotating seasonal pasta is on the menu. The bar menu also features a great variety of cocktails- the bartender is super friendly and willing to make adjustments to drinks (I don't like it too sweet). The milk punch is my usual choice, but on nights where I'm not having alcohol, I also appreciate that there is a mocktail list. The only critique I have is regarding the change in layout- there are 3 entrances but the placement of the hostess stand feels particularly awkward and not very intuitive. read more

Four stars for Good Neighbor. Love the airy ambiance and bar space; this is the old Beast and Bounty restaurant and prior to that it used to be part of the old Crystal Cream & Butter Company factory. With the exposed brick and lofty ceilings, it creates for a unique setting. You can find seating indoors and outside on the front patio space. Have been here for many a happy hour which runs Monday to Friday from 3:00 - 5:00. Your best "bang for the buck" are the "Shareables" which are 2 for $20. I tried their Pavé Fries which come with sour cream and creme fraiche. Very unusual, highly recommend. Akin to a potato casserole cut into strips and deep fried, I loved the crunchy layers and textures. I also tried their Grandma's Meatballs (4) which came with marinara sauce, ricotta and parmesan. They were average-sized, but had a lot of flavor. On HH, their signature cocktails are $12. Draft beer is by Urban Roots and is $6. I've been here a few times, went on a Saturday checked in with the hostess and sat by the staircase where we would be attended rather than waiting for a table. First server was nice, we ordered drinks and food, after that the "server" would switch not sure if that was because of the seating. The two other tables by us were being occupied and it seemed like the staff members were making conversation with them and attending them but not with my table. We also saw what looked like a server taking a drink with the couple next to us. I've been so excited to visit Good Neighbor, I've been keeping track of their instagram posts and everything has looked so delicious. This area is always very busy and finding parking can be hit or miss, but if you loop around or head onto some of the side streets you should be able to find something (usually paid parking) within walking distance. When I arrived on a Friday evening there was an hour wait for a table for two, we took a short walk over to Midtown Spirits for a drink while we waited for a text to let us know our table was ready. The texting system they have set up makes it really convenient, especially if you don't want to wait right in front of the restaurant. We ended up with a cute table for two and noticed they have blocks on the table to alert the team if you need service or the check- no one mentioned them as we were seated, so we weren't sure if we'd need to use them from the start or not. We ended up chatting and eventually a server came to introduce themself and take our drink orders. They were pretty busy, so service was on the slower side. We could tell they were hustling and weren't sure if pressing our table button would slow them down or if it's what they preferred. We ended up waiting patiently and when our drinks came we were able to order food. Our main courses took quite some time, we thought they may have forgotten us. We stayed patient though and right before we were going to check in they were brought out to us. We ended up having the English Pea Arancini ($12) as an appetizer, with three pieces they were a perfect starter and were very flavorful. I ordered the Good Burger ($22) it's a 1/2lb burger that has cheddar, pickles, lettuce, onions, sauce and a generous portion of tallow fries. The burger was tasty and I liked that the onions were grilled. It had house made pickles that were more tangy. I ended up taking half of the burger and most of the fries home because it was pretty filling. Although the fries would be perfect for sharing with dining companions and are best fresh. The person I was with ordered the Hanger Steak Salad ($34) and it was beautifully plated and perfectly cooked to her requested medium rare. The portion was also generous and she ended up having leftovers. We utilized the signal box on our table to let our server know when we were ready to pay and boxed up leftovers. My family and I checked out Good Neighbor last night for dinner which is located in The Ice Blocks where Beast and Bounty used to be. The interior was beautiful - yellows, blues and greens that set the mood and the gorgeous bar was the focal point of the whole restaurant. For drinks, we ordered the Good Neighbor Old Fashioned, Freezer Martini and the Lemonade. My husband liked the Old Fashioned and said it was different in a good way, the Freezer Martini was just okay and the Lemonade was the sourest thing I've ever had in my life - it was straight lemon juice and water - we had to ask from them to sweeten it up twice just so that my daughter could actually enjoy it. For food, my daughter ordered the Kids Cheese Pizza and we started with Grandma's Meatballs. My daughter liked her pizza and we thought the meatballs were good - they had a nice flavor, but were nothing special. For our entree, my husband and I ordered the Steak Frites to share - while the plate looked beautiful, the plate didn't actually hit. The steak was tough because it was sliced across the grain (IYKYK) and it was also cooked medium rare, which is fine, but we were never asked how we wanted it cooked. The sauce on the plate was also very salty - it was too much for my husband and while the fries were fresh (I think) and cooked in beef talon, they weren't anything special either. Overall, I am giving them 4 stars because the service was spot on - shout out to Brenda who took great care of us! It was delicious we started with the spinach artichoke dip came with focaccia toasted bread and the English Pea Arancini OMG I had never had Arancini it was so delicious!!!! There is street parking and there is a parking lot just two buildings down from the place. The spats are a little tight. when walking out we saw a car almost hit another parked car. We went for the latter since my wife didn't want her feet dangling. and I don't really like the high tops. The place had a large bar since it did take over from the old Beast and Bounty. We sat in the area across from the kitchen. There is a wall separating that are from the bar area. We were first to arrive and then a few minutes later our friends came to meet us. It seemed like a while before the server came over and introduced herself. It wasn't that busy but it did seem like she wasn't very attentive. My wife pointed to a light cube in the middle of our table. It had a service button and a pay button. I was kind of disappointed that I had to call a server over using a call box. I didn't use it till I had to keep asking for refills on my iced tea. We were finally able to order our food. I got the salmon sandwich and it was pretty good. The salmon was cooked perfect and the bread was really fresh. My wife got the chicken sandwich and she enjoyed it too. I also got a trio cheese pizza. There was only one size and when it came out it was a personal sized pizza. It was just ok nothing special, kind of funny after taste. Our friends got the peperoni pizza and seemed to like it. my wife's friend got the salad and was disappointed. It was like you went to the grocery store and bought a package salad and opened the bag, served it to you. She didn't really like it and definitely not for the price. I liked the look of the place but they didn't seem to add too much to the old place. We had a nice visit with our friends so I might try it again sometime. Hopefully the service is better. read more

If you're looking for a place that feels like your favorite neighborhood hangout and delivers on food and vibes, Good Neighbor by Urban Roots on R Street is a must-visit in Sacramento. We shared a bunch of plates -- everything from the wood-fired pizzas to the spinach artichoke dip and the chopped Cobb salad-- and each one was tasty in its own way. The pizzas had this great char and chewy crust, and the spinach artichoke dip was the perfect combo of cheesy, gooey and savory. And let me tell you about the pear vinaigrette on that chopped salad... to die for! What really made the night, though, was the service. Our server was friendly, checked in at the right moments, and genuinely seemed excited to make sure we were having a good time -- which made the whole experience feel effortless and fun. Paid my first visit to Good Neighbor for a work lunch and it was wonderful! The space is just gorgeous with its high ceilings and airy feel. Loved the open kitchen and the nice bar area. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Andrew provided excellent service and was very helpful answering all of this first-timer's questions. We ended up going with the fritto misto as a shared starter and they were kind enough to not include fennel, as it usually comes with it but neither of us are fans. Let me tell you, this very well may be the best fritto misto I've ever had in my life! Loved the light, crispy batter and the nice variety of items including leeks, olives, thinly sliced lemon in addition to the plump shrimp and yummy calamari. The lemony aioli was outstanding, as well. Just. So. Good! He went with the steak sandwich and I opted for the Caesar salad with added chicken. Everything was delicious! Washed down with some freshly brewed iced tea with lemon and simple syrup and I left a very happy, fully satisfied customer. I look forward to returning, hopefully sooner than later! read more

I went here with my husband on a random Thursday afternoon for lunch/dinner. We ordered for drinks the fable of bees and the milk punch. Both were delicious. FOB smells like orange juice and was more ginger forwards than j would like (my husband liked it more). MP I thought was way better. It was more refreshing. They had a special that day which was the pickle pizza - IT WAS AMAZING! Perfect balance of sweet and salty and crust was pretty good. We also got the salmon and the burger entree for dinner (we arrived like 3:45 so they were already serving the dinner menu). Salmon was cooked really well done and the burger was pretty standard but still good per my husband. Service was pretty fast and everyone was super friendly. The inside wasn't packed but there is also a patio/outdoor space if you would prefer. I'd come back again to try other items or the brunch :) read more
