Italian sodas, refresh mocktail
Angelica R.

I really wanted to like this restaurant but was so disappointed. Best thing of the night was probably my drink. I got the refresh and it was delicious! My friends ordered different Italian sodas and weren't a fan- they weren't expecting how sweet and creamy they would be. Went with my friends for a girls night so we ordered a variety of dishes- sadly all of them were missing salt and missed the mark other than the pasta (ragú). The fritto misto- such high hopes. Loved the lemon and the crispy tempura coating but needed to add our own salt because it was sort of flavorless. The aioli it came with was good. The fries- sad fries that were probably sitting for a while. Skip. Cesar salad and the good neighbor chop- the lettuce seemed out of a bag for some reason and once again, both needed more flavor. Love the idea of the chop and it could probably be delicious but missed the mark. Ragú pasta- yes. Order this. Delicious. Good portion. Flavortown. Service- we felt we were being rushed the whole time. Our server kept asking if we were done and offering boxes and wanting to take our plates away even though we were still eating and drinking. This was almost from the start. We noticed there were plenty of tables open and we weren't then for longer than an hour. Really disappointed. Overall- beautiful location.

My family and I checked out Good Neighbor last night for dinner which is located in The Ice Blocks where Beast and Bounty used to be. The interior was beautiful - yellows, blues and greens that set the mood and the gorgeous bar was the focal point of the whole restaurant. For drinks, we ordered the Good Neighbor Old Fashioned, Freezer Martini and the Lemonade. My husband liked the Old Fashioned and said it was different in a good way, the Freezer Martini was just okay and the Lemonade was the sourest thing I've ever had in my life - it was straight lemon juice and water - we had to ask from them to sweeten it up twice just so that my daughter could actually enjoy it. For food, my daughter ordered the Kids Cheese Pizza and we started with Grandma's Meatballs. My daughter liked her pizza and we thought the meatballs were good - they had a nice flavor, but were nothing special. For our entree, my husband and I ordered the Steak Frites to share - while the plate looked beautiful, the plate didn't actually hit. The steak was tough because it was sliced across the grain (IYKYK) and it was also cooked medium rare, which is fine, but we were never asked how we wanted it cooked. The sauce on the plate was also very salty - it was too much for my husband and while the fries were fresh (I think) and cooked in beef talon, they weren't anything special either. Overall, I am giving them 4 stars because the service was spot on - shout out to Brenda who took great care of us! Based off of the food, I don't think we'll come back - maybe for drinks though if we're in the area.

Excellent menu with diverse options. Really great service by people who genuinely try to go above and beyond. Had a nice Thursday evening dinner here with the fam. We ordered a pizza, salad, a burger and even an appetizer. All our food was delicious. The standout here was their pizza and also the mushroom arancini. Sitting on the patio made for a beautiful evening. They played old school R&B music at a level that was really smooth. Didn't try any alcohol but their drinks menu was appealing. Highly recommend trying out this Ice Blocks standout.

Nice and trendy restaurant, visited for brunch. It was nice that they gave you an option to sit indoor or out, we chose indoor. Quick service, and they have a button where you can switch a light to service and pay. We ordered their Caesar salad, tallow fries, breakfast pizza, and their cinnamon roll waffle. Our favorite was the waffle. I personally couldn't taste the tallow in their tallow fries, and I wished their breakfast pizza had a standard of adding eggs to it instead of it being extra. Food was good, but not out of this world. If within the area, definitely would like that waffle again.

Great food and drink spot with both inside and outside seating options! Drink menu had a lot of options, all priced very reasonably. The food options were also great. Steak frites: 3/5 They recommended medium, but it came more like rare. Too rare for my liking but the sauce and fries were great. Burger: 4/5 Solid burger with good quality meat, was expecting more of a charcoal taste. Pizza: 4/5 Great pizza with good crust and great quality ingredients. Salad: 5/5 We loved the salad! The cornbread croutons were awesome and it was overall a well balanced salad. The service was excellent even while sitting outside. They have a fun cube to get the waiter attention and ask for the bill remotely. Overall, a great experience and will definitely come back with friends!

Heads up: on the weekends there is a menu/food change between 3-4pm so our options to pick from were limited. The drinks, salad and fries were really good! I recommend all four. Unfortunately, our pizza was not well done as seen in other pictures. I would not recommend getting the pizza.

My friends came here for dinner on Friday evening. We got there around 5:20pm and luckily there was no wait. We were immediately seated. The ambiance is nice but quite dim with high ceilings. Open kitchen so you will smell if you are seated next to the kitchen. Our server was Amy. Amy gave us plenty of time to look through the menu and even told us their daily special. She did not rush us. We decided on different dishes to try. Crispy Roasted Chicken: Chicken was really tender. Needed a bit more flavor. Roasted fingerlings were a bit underdone especially the larger pieces. Mushroom Arancini: It was delicious! Usually comes with 3 but we paid $4 for an extra piece. Grandma's Meatballs: Standard meatballs. Nothing special. Usually comes with 3 but we paid $4 for an extra piece. Fritto Misto: It was good but the seasoning was a bit too salty. Interesting that it includes tempura lemon slices. Classic Pepperoni Pizza: Loved the smoky taste from the wood fire. Other than that, just a standard pizza. Steak Frites: It was good. Very meaty. The sauce was really good. Grilled Broccolini: Broccolini was grilled and seasoned perfectly. One of my favorites from the night. Not all the food was perfect but our server was awesome. She was very attentive and friendly. There is a service cube on each table. There is a button to press for service and another button to press to pay. Even without using the cube, our server still came by to check in on us from time to time. Parking can be limited as it is located on the ICE block.

I came here to catch up with some friends and have some lunch. We came here when they opened for the day. I think parking can be challenging at busy times of the day. The street parking near the area can get full because of all the other shops and restaurants around the area. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. It was very good. The bread was soft. It wasn't hard to eat. I just hate it when you bite into a roll, and it is hard to chew off. The chicken breast was cooked well. The chicken was juicy and had good taste to it. I tried the cheese pizza, too. It was ok. Nothing special about it. Service, well, not that good. Our server was not present. They do have this cube to call for service. That didn't help either. I can understand if the place was busy, the tables were filled, but there was only one other table besides us. She did not come around when we pressed the cube for help. It took her some time. I thought the food was pretty good. Service not so great. If I come here again and hopefully it will be a different server.

If you're looking for a place that feels like your favorite neighborhood hangout and delivers on food and vibes, Good Neighbor by Urban Roots on R Street is a must-visit in Sacramento. We shared a bunch of plates -- everything from the wood-fired pizzas to the spinach artichoke dip and the chopped Cobb salad-- and each one was tasty in its own way. The pizzas had this great char and chewy crust, and the spinach artichoke dip was the perfect combo of cheesy, gooey and savory. And let me tell you about the pear vinaigrette on that chopped salad... to die for! What really made the night, though, was the service. Our server was friendly, checked in at the right moments, and genuinely seemed excited to make sure we were having a good time -- which made the whole experience feel effortless and fun. I would highly recommend checking them out for a cute and fun girls night or a more intimate date night! We even went after a workout... good neighbor truly covers all bases!

My friend took me to dinner here for my bday. Ambiance is always so cute! I think they had the best mocktails I've ever tried.

Paid my first visit to Good Neighbor for a work lunch and it was wonderful! The space is just gorgeous with its high ceilings and airy feel. Loved the open kitchen and the nice bar area. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Andrew provided excellent service and was very helpful answering all of this first-timer's questions. We ended up going with the fritto misto as a shared starter and they were kind enough to not include fennel, as it usually comes with it but neither of us are fans. Let me tell you, this very well may be the best fritto misto I've ever had in my life! Loved the light, crispy batter and the nice variety of items including leeks, olives, thinly sliced lemon in addition to the plump shrimp and yummy calamari. The lemony aioli was outstanding, as well. Just. So. Good! He went with the steak sandwich and I opted for the Caesar salad with added chicken. Everything was delicious! Washed down with some freshly brewed iced tea with lemon and simple syrup and I left a very happy, fully satisfied customer. I look forward to returning, hopefully sooner than later!

I went here with my husband on a random Thursday afternoon for lunch/dinner. We ordered for drinks the fable of bees and the milk punch. Both were delicious. FOB smells like orange juice and was more ginger forwards than j would like (my husband liked it more). MP I thought was way better. It was more refreshing. They had a special that day which was the pickle pizza - IT WAS AMAZING! Perfect balance of sweet and salty and crust was pretty good. We also got the salmon and the burger entree for dinner (we arrived like 3:45 so they were already serving the dinner menu). Salmon was cooked really well done and the burger was pretty standard but still good per my husband. Service was pretty fast and everyone was super friendly. The inside wasn't packed but there is also a patio/outdoor space if you would prefer. I'd come back again to try other items or the brunch :)

I came here with some friends for breakfast. I didn't see that they took reservations so we showed up about 15 minutes after they opened. There is street parking and there is a parking lot just two buildings down from the place. The spats are a little tight. when walking out we saw a car almost hit another parked car. When we entered there were a few tables taken but we were seated right away. They asked if we wanted a high top or lower seating. We went for the latter since my wife didn't want her feet dangling. and I don't really like the high tops. The place had a large bar since it did take over from the old Beast and Bounty. We sat in the area across from the kitchen. There is a wall separating that are from the bar area. We were first to arrive and then a few minutes later our friends came to meet us. It seemed like a while before the server came over and introduced herself. It wasn't that busy but it did seem like she wasn't very attentive. My wife pointed to a light cube in the middle of our table. It had a service button and a pay button. I was kind of disappointed that I had to call a server over using a call box. I didn't use it till I had to keep asking for refills on my iced tea. We were finally able to order our food. I got the salmon sandwich and it was pretty good. The salmon was cooked perfect and the bread was really fresh. My wife got the chicken sandwich and she enjoyed it too. I also got a trio cheese pizza. There was only one size and when it came out it was a personal sized pizza. It was just ok nothing special, kind of funny after taste. Our friends got the peperoni pizza and seemed to like it. my wife's friend got the salad and was disappointed. It was like you went to the grocery store and bought a package salad and opened the bag, served it to you. She didn't really like it and definitely not for the price. I liked the look of the place but they didn't seem to add too much to the old place. We had a nice visit with our friends so I might try it again sometime. Hopefully the service is better.

This hidden gem offers an experience that's unlike anything else in the city. The setup is simple but charming: you literally walk up to a window and order your wine. The Wine Window is affordable, laid-back, and surprisingly quaint. It's the kind of place where the ambiance, the people, and the energy make it feel more like an experience within an experience--not just a drink stop. I had the chance to chat with John, the owner, who shared a bit of the backstory. He previously owned a full wine room nearby, but when the pandemic hit, he had to pivot. Instead of calling it quits, he leaned into a smaller, more intimate concept inspired by wine windows in Europe. Honestly, I think the scale makes it even better. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine while people-watching on L Street, and yes, there's even a restroom available (a rare but very appreciated amenity for this type of setup).
