A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting The Wine Window in downtown Sacramento (1111 L St), and I've honestly been late writing this review--but better late than never! This hidden gem offers an experience that's unlike anything else in the city. The setup is simple but charming: you literally walk up to a window and order your wine. I believe it's one ring for white, two for red, and three or four for sparkling--don't quote me on that, but it adds a playful, old-world vibe that makes the whole experience memorable. The Wine Window is affordable, laid-back, and surprisingly quaint. It's the kind of place where the ambiance, the people, and the energy make it feel more like an experience within an experience--not just a drink stop. I had the chance to chat with John, the owner, who shared a bit of the backstory. He previously owned a full wine room nearby, but when the pandemic hit, he had to pivot. Instead of calling it quits, he leaned into a smaller, more intimate concept inspired by wine windows in Europe. Honestly, I think the scale makes it even better. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine while people-watching on L Street, and yes, there's even a restroom available (a rare but very appreciated amenity for this type of setup). Randomly stopped in for a pre-game drink. TL;DR we came back for a post-game drink. I recognized very little on the wine list but after a short quiz we found two hits. One new world and one old. With the rain outside and warmth in a glass inside we had a great time. Everyone was friendly. This a great spot before an event at G1 but we will be back in between those too. read more

My wife and I stopped here today, and were really happy we did. I got a montepulciano and she got a glass of bubbles. We paired it with a brie and bacon flatbread and it all came together very nicely. Check them out, they've got a really nice patio across from the State Capitol and Capitol Park, so it's a nice place to relax. read more

So my wife had this place bookmarked on her yelp so I decided to take her out to this place. When we got there, we had to find a table ourselves. When we sat down we had a server at our table fairly quickly. The server helped my wife select a wine but forgot all about me lol but she was friendly, however the environment is for older people Who just likes to wined down and have a glass wine or beer and enjoy themselves. It's very low-key, the only bad thing is that they have only one bathroom. We ordered the charcuterie board and the grilled blue cheese. The grilled blue cheese came with a Cesar salad and both the salad and the sandwich were a bit too salty for my liking, but the wife enjoyed it. I stopped in post work and absolutely fell in love with this charming spot. Being right across from the Capitol is a built in advantage, sure but they go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your time here with great wine and great small bites. This is the perfect place to unwind after a long day or during your lunch break. They've really done a great job making the patio feel like their own space. I was pleasantly surprised with Whired. We arrived around 9 pm on a Friday and they had a live jazz guitarist playing. It's quite small and intimate. It was not crowded but the main groups there were of the older crowd, I'm no spring chicken, just don't expect this to be a hipster hangout. We were seated and our waitress offered some wine selections since I am a sweet white wine drinker and I noticed they had no moscato or Riesling. Her recommendation was perfect and I found a new wine to enjoy. We ordered the cheese and charcuterie board and the grilled blue cheese sandwich. Let me start by saying I am a prosciutto and blue cheese snob! Their prosciutto fell short and their blue cheese was very mild. They did not have honey but offered a fig jam that was comparable. My friend and I try to meet up once a month, and she mentioned how much she wanted to check Whired out. I'm all in for a wine bar, they've been on my radar, so there we were day drinking and loving every second. What a fantastic happy hour! In addition to their hh menu, select regular menu items are $2 off, such as my prosciutto arugula salad and the olive/almond plate. Everything we tasted was delicious and perfectly paired with their wines offered. Our hh red was a blend, a balanced burst of flavors without the dry after taste. Their sangria is on the dryer side, and we couldn't have been happier as we both aren't sweet drinkers. The owner was very honest stating his cook wasn't in yet, when we arrived at 4pm, but he went above and beyond to accommodate us and our selections. I think he did pretty well putting my salad together! Parking isn't too painful as there is a pay parking lot on 5th Street, left side just before you reach L Street. My first experience here absolutely made me want to come back. This place feels like it belongs tucked away in my little neighborhood a mile over in midtown instead of right across from DOCO and I loved it! It's a very relaxed environment, not touristy or pretentious and the owner, John, is someone I'd like to watch a game with while I sat at the bar. He put the Giants game on as I was leaving so I'll be back to watch and sip. They have a good happy hour with a mix and match wine flight available and some small bites. I didn't get any nibbles tonight but had the flight with 1 red: Primitivo & 2 whites: Sancerre & Vino Verde. I liked all 3 and elevated to have a glass of the Verde on HH for $7 after my flight. I came with 4 others and they all shared in my sentiment that we should come again. read more

Whenever I'm in the DOCO area, I usually go to Bailarin since that's the only wine bar I knew of until last night when I discovered Whired. And let me tell you, I'm hooked! The happy hour was very inexpensive- $5 wines and even cheaper beers, plus they had tons of food options to munch on! I got the $6 Happy Hour Margarita Flatbread- it wasn't the best flatbread I'd ever had, but for $6 bar food, it was great. The ambiance is really cute and the service was great. My wife and I went in Sunday night. We were out bar hopping. This is a nice little spot close to the Golden one center. They have outdoor seating and the inside seating is cozy. My wife tried the Paso Robles cab and I had the Argentina Malbec. Both we delicious. We had their fig and prosciutto flatbread with the wine. It paired well with the wine. At the end the host offered use a tasting of their new release wine. Very nice of him. It was well balanced and would go great with some red meat. I really enjoyed it. This is a wonderful wine bar in Sacramento. Came here on a rare date with my wife. It's located across from the Capitol Building, in the portico of the historic Senator Office Building. You order at the outdoor counter. Choice of flatbreads, sandwiches, salads and other apps. Big wine list and local beers. About a dozen tables well spaced out in the shade. Very relaxing vibe, unpretentious. There was a singer/guitarist performing mellow tunes the evening we went. The fig and prosciutto flatbread was a great mix of savory and sweet. Talk about a great location! (street parking is available, as well as some close-by parking garages) Whired Wine is located across the street from Golden 1 Center, making it such a convenient stop before a Kings game, concert, or show. I only had a glass of champagne, as I was here for an event called Blooms & Bubbly (so fun!), but the atmosphere of this place was enough for 5 stars! It's extremely clean, trendy, and unique. Whired is an adorable little wine bar located literally a block or so down from Golden One Center, which could either be amazing if you're looking to stop by before/after a game, or a red flag if you're not attending a game and are looking for parking...but alas, that has not kept me away! There's seating inside and outside; outside has these barrel-tables which are perfect for the wine theme and great to sit at if the weather is pleasant. Inside is sleek and contemporary with seating at tables or the bar. Service is fantastic at both. Your water glass is never left too empty! While I can not yet comment on the food, I've partaken in a few wine flights, which may be my favorite aspect of the menu so far! Whired offers flights for either $10 or $12 depending on the price per glass of the 3 wines you choose. They have a variety of reds, whites, roses, and a few dessert wines so it's a great way to sample the menu to find something you might like. If you're not sure what you want, you can also ask for a recommendation and they will try to put together something to your taste. Overall, Whired is a classy yet fun establishment, and a perfect setting for date night or for catching up with friends over a glass of wine. They have different specials for each day of the week and host events such as live music with wine and chocolate pairings on Saturdays and mimosa samplers on Sundays - both of which are definitely on my list to try along with their weekday happy hour! read more

We visited Whired last night, and I just came on yelp to leave a review to see a 1 star review given right from before we were here... hmmm weird. One star? Someone waited 30 min with zero service? ... So here's our very different experience, We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. Sat at the bar and had a great conversation with the bartender, I can't remember his name but he has only been here a month. He was very knowledgeable about wines and winemaking and answered all our questions. The wines we had, both from CA, were great. We didn't have food so I can't review that. It was also very slow, we were the only 2 people here most of the stay. It's hard to really know what a place and service is like under the circumstances. Visited: May 4th, 2017 PRO TIP!!!!: Happy Hour is til' 6 PM not 7 PM (Some reviews/pics have 7 but it has changed) I'm actually excited to write this review. Which, as you might know, trying to find parking near the arena these days is nothing short of a nightmare. It's $2 for every half hour, which isn't cheap but if you're like me on a hot day, you don't want to fuss with it. The atmosphere: This place is totally cute. There's an upstairs area and downstairs. They have cute chairs with pretty teal and gray fabric. Adds a chic look to the place. They also have a few high top tables. I was meeting 3 girlfriends here for a birthday happy hour. We picked the high top table and began to order from their $6 Happy Hour menu (A cab, a white, and a Cava Sparkling). The whole time we were there an older gentleman was singing "Karaoke" up top (The Karaoke DJ) HE IS AMAZING!!! He was so talented and made the atmosphere even better. The Food & Drinks: We ordered their deviled eggs, pesto pizza, mac n cheese with Bacon, a charcuterie board, Turkey Avo sandwich, and many many drinks. Everything was seriously amazing. I loved the food and even more the wine/champs. YUM! The Service: We were served by Jesus & John. Who were absolutely amazing. Not only did they honor our Happy Hour until 7 PM because we saw it on Yelp (and it was my birthday), but they were extremely attentive, cleared plates quickly, refilled drinks promptly, and we're so nice. John (the one in charge) even gave us complimentary Saki shots and took it with us. HOW FREAKING COOL!!!! He made a permanent customer out of all of us. I love this place! So conveniently located across the Golden One Arena. Parking lot is right next to it making it a plus. The prices are reasonable and the service was great. We came as a group of 6 on an evening before attending a concert. The whole staff was very attentive despite how busy it was. Ok -- I love to praise new businesses that pop up in our city. I value this, as I enjoy dining out and sometimes pigging out. I must caution you to NOT have a lot of expectations when visiting Whired Wine. You will not get great food, and I don't necessarily think they are striving for this -- but you will get a decent wine selection with some good beers on tap. You are NOT going to 58 degrees. Do not expect this. AT. ALL. Come for the music, as my husband and I did on a Friday night, and know that you'll get a nice, quiet evening out with a glass of wine. Can you get this at home with Spotify playing in the background? Sure. That's why I'm not too impressed. Try it out for yourself, and see if I'm right, wrong or otherwise. The good news? This place will do well with the location being so close to the arena and might get enough competition to "step up" their food game. It's a small place but they made it a nice space. There's comfortable seating areas, the bar (has hooks underneath!), and high tables.. front patio seating coming soon. They have a selection of wine that's not overwhelming to look at, local and international. Flights are available with 2oz. pours. What's really cool is they use this contraption to keep oxygen out of their wines. They also have beers on tap and food fitting for a wine bar like cheeses and charcuterie, paninis, salads.. with Mixed Nuts and Marinated Olives seemingly being the Vegan options. In Yelp's terms, this place is "A-Okay." I wouldn't make a point to return (even being the Happy Hour lover that I am) but I wouldn't be upset if I ended up here. First of all I called a few other wine bars and didn't get the greatest service. I was traveling with my 16 year old husky too. So outside was a must. I called WW and spoke to John. Great phone service and we headed over. Sat us quickly outside. We did wine flights and some snacks. All great! We did a bottle with a meal and it was delicious! Me and my girlfriend are both 21 and we walk in and ask nicely to use the restroom. The lady said " we have to be 21 and have to be customers to use it" I then said okay what can I buy. Then she says " it's fine just use the restroom" so we proceeded to use the restroom because the lady working there said it was "OKAY" so the owner then comes up as we are walking to the bathroom and rudely says, "Are you 21?" We both proceed to say, "Yes we are just using the restroom." He then says, "Are you a customer?" We then told him no the lady upfront said it was fine for us to use the restroom. The owner then starts stay no you can't use the restroom. I was very disappointed on how rude he was treating us. I don't mind if we can't use your restroom because we aren't customers but be more nice about it if your the "owner". read more

I'm rating this 3/5 stars but I'm hoping to increase my rating one day! The space is cute. There are a few tall tables, seating at the bar, and a small lounge area with a couch and a few chairs. It was calming and comfortable. Be warned - there is a really strong, interesting smell in this place that is overpowering at first, not sure what it is. The service really needs some work. Our server was very kind and obviously knowledgeable but our drinks took forever to come out as did our food order. Not to mention, we were the only ones in the place on a Friday night. Two of us ordered flights while the other ordered a glass of wine. For food, we ordered bruschetta and our friend ordered a flatbread. I will say that the bruschetta was worth the wait because it was really good. All in all, I'd like to see the service time improve a little next time I go in. It was Friday night and we were fully prepared to spend the evening here, had the server been more on top of it we probably would not have left to go to Yardhouse down the street. Came here for drinks before going to a game. They have a wide variety of wines, but to be honest I'd expect more Napa valley wines, given Sacramento's proximity. You can buy by the glass or bottle. Ranges from 8.00-23.00 per glass. They also have beer options on tap. Super cute and trendy decor. Very laid back atmosphere. Good for groups. Me, my husband and our friend Wil just left Whired wine, our experience was WONDERFUL. We sat at the bar top and the owner John made great recommendations, good conversation, and let us taste a few different wines. While the location of this wine bar is gorgeous, you are definitely paying for it when you order anything. The interior is really well done and the seating areas are nice but it was HOT inside, temperature-wise. The people who work there are wearing suits, you'd think they would cool it more. Yes, it was a hot night. But this is Sacramento, it's hot from May-Oct so we should know to be prepared. Speaking of hot night, the location had a handful of people in it when I arrived yet it took me 10-15 minutes to get a water. Also, I've seen on yelp, Instagram, and on their website that they have food but they never presented me with a food menu, only wine. I asked if they had flights and no one ever answered. The thing that annoyed me the most is that I paid $9 each for a little glass of sparkling wine. The owner of the wine company recommended to try it with an orange slice. The bartender just PLOPS orange slices right into the wine from a few inches in the air sending the wine spilling everywhere. Maybe wait for the wine to settle first or maybe just put it on the rim? I don't appreciate paying $9 for something when 1/3 of it ended up on the counter. I get that in a wine bar, things are going to be more spendy and I'm fine with that. But if I'm paying the ridiculous mark up, I want exceptional service, knowledgable staff, and comfortable atmosphere. Since I didn't get those things, paying $18 for 2 glasses on wine when I could have gotten the whole bottle for the same price at Total Wine annoys me. read more

Came in quickly for a drink. I love exploring the wine scene in this city. The bartender was extremely attentive, but also not overbearing. He recommended some awesome wine, a sauvignon blanc which I loved. Also poured me a little taste of a red sparkling which I've never had before. I'm a big fan of sparkling wine so it was nice to try something brand new. Note to self, come back for a bottle of that. I will definitely come back to try more.
