Starting in reverse order: the Saffron Ferni dessert - phenomenal, its light, floral, touch of sweetness, perfect smooth texture contrasting with the crunchy nuts. Top contender for dessert of the year. The bolani had good flavor, but was overpriced, lacking in filling, and a bit dried out. Fish of the day and scallops were extremely well made and flavorful. Would come back for those! They also have great drinks at the bar and service was kind and warm. Perfect date night spot and very creative fusion cuisines.
We have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally made it for dinner! We were not sure how busy it would be the day after the Fourth of July but we lucked out and it was nice and quiet. They have a coffee bar and also serve brunch on the weekends. They also have lunch and happy hour. We were especially interested in the afghan menu items and decided to try that from our appetizer thru dessert. We had the Mantu steamed dumplings to start followed by the Saffron Chicken & Kabuli Palow. Both were really flavorful and would definitely recommend! My favorite was the Kabuli Palow which is the beef shoulder, cauliflower and basmati rice dish. The beef was really tender and the rice was very flavorful with raisins and almonds. We ended dinner with dessert trying the Saffron Ferni which is gluten free milk based custard with cardamom, rose water and pistachios. While it was not my cup a tea it did have good flavor and was still a winner for our table. I really want to give a shout out to our server Melinda who was absolutely wonderful. She was attentive and took the time to share highlights of the items on the menu and her recommendations on the best dishes. She had a great sense of humor and was a breath of fresh air as often we feel like we are being rushed when we are dining out. This felt like our experience mattered. We will absolutely be back to work our way through the menu for brunch, lunch and other specials.
The first time here we loved it. Delicious food. Tasty kebabs and yummy sides. Rice was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The cappuccino was excellent. So that was the first time. On our second visit, again for lunch. We parked in the lot behind the establishment. Some guy was turbo cleaning his sinuses with monster snot rockets. IYKYK GROSS! When we noticed the offender was the cook we right away opted out, never to return. Feels bad to call out a family run business. At the same time it's real hard to look past this sort of behavior.
I can't believe I had never heard of this place before, and I've been in Sacramento for over a decade. We had a lunch of appetizers, and everything was amazing. I was shocked at how good the crab cakes were, I'll be coming back for that specifically. Favorite part was they have a dog menu! I ordered a chicken & rice bowl for my pup (no sauces or seasonings on anything). It was fun to give him a special treat. Wasn't super impressed with the couple of wines I tried, the waitress didn't drink and wasn't able to recommend anything for us. Overall, cute patio vibes, yummy food, dog friendly. I'll definitely be back!
We had dinner at Brickland and tried three dishes... Kabuli Palow, Saffron Chicken, and the New York Steak, and all of them were great. The Kabuli Palow came with tender pieces of beef in a flavorful sauce, paired with a mound of rice studded with carrots and raisins. It had a nice balance of savory and slightly sweet, and the meat was cooked just right. The Saffron Chicken was juicy and well-seasoned, served with a vibrant green spinach rice that really stood out. The puree tied everything together without being overpowering. The New York Steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, very tender, and served with layered potatoes and roasted carrots, a great mix of textures and flavors on the plate. The atmosphere was very nice, modern but comfortable, not too busy or crowded, so it was easy to relax and enjoy the food. Service was friendly and attentive without hovering. Great flavors, good presentation, and a welcoming vibe.

Finally was seated and the server while only being his second day was polite and asked for assistance when he was unsure of what their house sparkling was. Food was good, I had the burrito and my husband had the poached eggs with poached salmon. He had no complaints re the eggs but wanted a toasted English muffin and the potatoes more crisp as well. His comment was that everything was the same texture, soft. My burrito was tasty and I enjoyed the feta side dip despite it not making any sense. If you go stay away from the house sparkling as it is a 6.50 bottle of sweet sparking grape juice sold for 6.50 at total wine. I feel a 350% markup is not acceptable. They listed Domaine Carneros as being a French champagne. It is actually a very nice sparkling house in Napa and I love their sparkling wines. Overall the food and ambiance is nice and relaxing and serving sizes are acceptable. Our waiter did great for his second day.
Love!! Such a great eclectic date night spot. We'll definitely be back to try their chai. We got sliders and lamb shank which were very tasty. The fries were hella good. We also want to come back for brunch at some point.
We both are having Beef Sliders with beet salad and they are really good. Katelyn was our waitress and we got everything right and she kept on top of our needs. We have gone to this restaurant way back when it was 33rd. The place continues to do little things here and to dress up the place continues. My only complaint was there was no Chalula and I gave her a hard time about and she agreed.
Food: I've primarily had brunch here. I come here out of convenience on the weekends as it is not far from my gym. For a quick breakfast fix, this is place is fine and I will continue to come here as I like the ambiance of the place and it is convenient. That being said, I am not very motivated by the food here. I've had the benedict and the breakfast burrito and have been less than impressed. Further, as others have commented on, it's a little pricey for what it is. I just haven't been impressed with the flavor profile of the dishes here. I find the potatoes kind of lackluster. The ratio of potatoes to eggs/meat in burrito was high for me and no bite was consistent. Service: Everyone is very kind and I always see the owner around gabbing with customers. Ambiance: The place is pretty big. Overall, it's pretty clean and feels pretty standard. I don't get a specific vibe from the place. The bar has a separate entrance and has two big TVs (no sound)
Glad we had reservations for a Saturday night! We showed up a little early and the place was packed. Parking is in the lot behind the restaurant which is great due to how busy it gets and the street parking can get tight. Inside is simple contemporary with that comfortable 'brick' feel since it IS "Brickland". The room is loud and where we were seated in the thoroughfare was a bit buzzy so be prepared to talk loud to your fellow diners. The hosts (owners) were very nice and noticeable as they toured the floor checking on things throughout the evening. There is also a large bar area in the back of the dining area. Brickland is a combo Afghan, pizza/pasta and American faire restaurant. We of course choose to enjoy the food of the owners, and went with Afghan. Started with the house soup. Good and rich, but just needed a little something else to give it that extra kick of flavor. Next we had the Kadoo Bolani - Crispy grilled philo dough with butternut squash and spices. These were pretty good For the main course we both had the Kabuli Palow - "Loaded" basmati rice with beef shoulder cuts and sauteed cauliflower. This dish was excellent on all points. Very good. What didn't go right was that we sat waiting for someone to come to our table for quite a while. I was reaching that 'twitchy' mode just before the server finally came over to greet us. I ordered a cocktail, and we decided that we had better get the appetizer order in now... Our orders were placed, and the food did come out as it all should have. The appetizer plates were not cleared before the person serving the main courses came out, which made it super awkward to negotiate all these plates on a tiny 2 top table. And our server never did come back to check on us until we were completely finished with our meals and waiting for the check. Overall, it was a 'good' evening, but there certainly are some missteps that could have been avoided.
Delicious seafood . A culinary delight. I would highly recommend this restaurant for authentic food. Every dish melts in your mouth.
My friend and I came last week and had a great time. The restaurant decor is very warm, inviting, and looks completely different than the restaurant that previously inhabited the space. For dinner, my friend and I shared the Mantu and I had the Kabuli Palow. Everything was absolutely delicious! Also, our server was very nice and attentive. I have already told others about this place, and we plan to be back.

I came here for dinner to celebrate the holidays with colleagues from work. I honestly never noticed this spot as frequently as I drive up and down Folsom Boulevard. I accidentally walked into their cafe that is connected to their restaurant, but took the opportunity to quickly check out their menu. I ordered the Pomegranate French 75 Chicken Kabob, which came with a side of Roasted Potatoes and Arugula Salad. The food was tasty, but I was a bit disappointed with the portion size considering the price ($26). Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance/vibe, the service was quick, and parking was relatively easy considering the location. Would not be my go-to restaurant for Mediterranean food, but they do have a variety of entrees to offer on their menu. read more

Came for a business meeting. There's a small parking lot behind the building and other street parking nearby. Got the brussel sprouts to start which I thought weren't crispy enough. Also got the pakora which was ok and kinda too greasy for my taste. For my entree I got the saffron chicken with spinach rice and pumpkin. It was quite expensive for the meal with a tiny piece of chicken. The flavor for everything on my entree was good and the chicken was moist. My friends got the burger which they all enjoyed. Overall, service was great and it is clean with nice decor inside but the food was pricey for the portion. read more

Went to Brickland for my wedding anniversary dinner! We made reservations, but it wasn't needed for 530pm on a Tuesday. Service was great and our waitress was able to give recommendations! GET THE AFGHANI meals! Don't be shy to try something new! They were flavorful and delicious! New York was very chew and not the best cut. The sides tho, my husband thought were amazing! Loved the brick inside and the bar section! Can't wait to try their breakfast next! read more

Came here for a second time for Happy hour and boy did this place not disappoint for my second trip. My friend and I had a bit of everything on the Happy Hour menu and everything was so good. For a total of $65 for everything we got I'd say the food and drinks were great for the price, the restaurant had a great ambiance was a nice way to cool down on a hot summer day. Look forward to returning for their happy hour another day. On the menu: -Cheese Board 8/10 -Prosciutto PIzza 10/10 what a wonderful flavor profile. Saw this on the regular menu after we placed our order and was a last minute substitution for the out of stock mussels and so happy it was. The pizza was plentiful and for the price who could beat it. -Crab cakes 8/10 these were pretty good maybe a slight more flavor could be added but they were definitely a great buy -Pakora 10/10 not at all what I was expecting but boy did these puppies pack a punch of flavor Drinks: -House red wine -Espresso Martini 7/10 definitely just okay Our server Tulawan was pretty knowledgeless about almost every question we asked from what is the house red wine, to what cheeses were on the cheese board and overall he was kind of scattered hence the 4 star rating for me second time coming. read more

Came here around maybe 9:30 pm on a Friday night with two girlfriends. The restaurant was super dead you'd think they were closed. Upon entering we saw an employee at the bar on their laptop. Did not acknowledge us after we awkwardly waited for about 15 seconds. We had to actually ask if they were still seating customers. Hesitantly, she said yes and mentioned they would be closing within the hour then sat us. First impressions matter and this slightly upset me. Our server, whose name I forgot or didn't catch, was great. The experience with her kind of made up for the initial encounter with the hostess. There is bar, patio, and of course indoor seating. Due to us arriving late in the evening I didn't get a good look outside for specifics. I ordered the sliders - 1 crispy chicken sandwich and 1 wagyu beef. Beef burger was meaty & juicy yet could've used a bit more seasoning, even some salt. Chicken sandwich was a big let down. Crispy but had the burnt bitter taste and although the inside was tender and juicy it was SUPER bland. Glad I got one of each rather than both being chicken. Recommend the beef over chicken if you're being indecisive. Fries were your typical salted shoe string fries. As nice as this restaurant was and had a lot of delicious menu options I don't think I will be coming back again. I don't care for places that don't care for my presence as customer... For Christmas, I task my sister for gifting me with a meal from restaurants I have yet to try. I am glad she chose this one, as I believe this is only the second Afghan restaurant I have dined at. I ordered the saffron chicken, which came with spinach rice and a pumpkin puree. The rice was seasoned perfectly, and both the chicken and rice mixed amazingly with the puree. I don't believe I left anything on the plate. I started with a basic Caesar salad, and although I had to ask for some extra dressing, once I received it, it was a good salad. The dressing was homemade. I finished with a mini cheesecake, which was complimented well with its berry sauce. My server was respectfully attentive, in that I got to relax with my food and my thoughts, but my soda was refilled without being asked. A little expensive for a weekly dining experience, but for a special occasion out with family or friends who want to taste something different, then I think you should try this place. I dined in at Brickland for the first time with my girlfriend, so a nice Thursday night dinner. Once we arrived we decided to sit indoors and we're sat at a nice table near the back by the window. That looked over the nicely lit patio as the sun had already began to set. A very nice setting for a dinner for two. DRINKS: Saffron Chai Strawberry Blood Orange Soda APPETIZER: Pakora DINNER: New York Steak Grilled Octopus with Potatoes Pavé & pearl onions DESSERT: Tiramisu My strawberry blood drink was ok, but nothing special. I think I expected it to be more of a puree type of drink with real fruit flavoring. Like I've had before with other Blood Orange sodas, but instead it was just like a regular soda; so kind of disappointing there. The Pakora appetizer was really delicious, especially when paired with both of the dipping sauces. The grilled Octopus I felt could have been seared a little longer, with a greater char. The skin was a little slimy and jelly like, and too much for my liking. Without the skin the Octopus was a lot more palatable for me. The Tiramisu my girlfriend and I shared, and it was really delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. Overall: Nice ambiance, and good food and dessert. Would definitely come back and check Brickland out again. read more
First time customer. I ordered Black Tiger Prawns with BBQ sauce and crostini. It was really delicious. I wasn't sure about the bbq sauce when I ordered the dish, but the homemade sauce was perfect. I thought the restaurant had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our waitress (for a table of 5) did a great job. She was patient & provided service with a smile. read more

Happy to see somebody replace the old 33rd street bistro space. We were so excited to see a new brunch spot pop up on Yelp! Tired of the long lines at sunny side lol. This was 100 percent worth every penny! The truffle omelette and flatbread were amazing. We also a latte and a matcha. Not too sweet like most places. Will come back again for sure read more

Service is always Amazing and at the top. Come here almost everyday and always try something new. Food is always delicious and unique. Absolutely love the atmosphere of this place, very chill and welcoming and gives the perfect fall mood. They have a lot of seating space, outside, near the cafe and by the bar. Our server Kintessa was friendly and kind, and ensured we had everything we needed. We came for brunch and the food was delicious. Wonderful ambiance & great music playing. We were able to get a drink from the new cafe with our food- the iced Silk Road latte was incredible! read more

As a long time Sacramento resident, I'm upset that I hadn't tried this spot sooner - make no mistake, it's worth it. The ambience alone is nice - big area and it's essentially a split restaurant and coffee shop (Brick Cafe). Service was straight forward and friendly, and the wait wasn't too bad. Parking is limited but not overly frustrating. Food options are sufficient, as there are a number of gluten free entrees, and any pizza can be made on cauliflower crust. However, no gf appetizers, salads or sides was a little disappointing. About the food: I had the Brie-lliant Prosciutto pizza - toppings also included grapes, pine nuts, and a spicy honey. Thoroughly enjoyed this! The cauliflower crust is on the thin side as per usual of gf alternatives, but the taste was all there. I definitely want to visit more to try the other pizza options. Great introduction overall. Will be back. read more
Brickland Bistro is a great addition to the East Sac community. The former restaurant at this location seems like it had been closed for years, so I am happy to see someone has stepped up and opened a new business. I was amazed at the spaciousness of the interior! Beautifully remodeled and designed, providing a light and airy feel. Windows! Love the open kitchen concept. A separate but visible bar area for the serious drinkers:)! And of course, there are lots of attractive brick walls, hence the "Brickland" Bistro name. The increased amount of patio seating in the front is great (dog friendly)! A plus on the ambiance! Four of us were warmly greeted by Sophia upon arrival. Two in our party had dined here previously and recommended Brickland Bistro. We sat in the inside dining area with quite a few other people well into their conversations and food. A friendly wait person, Rachel, appeared immediately and brought menus. She kindly waited while we quickly looked over the drinks and appetizers so we could get the party started! Nice wine, beer, and cocktail selections, I might add. Drinks came right away... Yay! And appetizers not too long after. (Photos and descriptions incuded.) Interesting apps. Pakora, an Afghanistan staple, and Alaskan cod tacos. Both were fabulous! My GF loved her spicy margarita! We were all off to a delicious start. We continued the evening with flavorful mains, including a hamburger with fries, salmon, and two chicken dishes (food photos and menus included). We all loved our picks! Just the right amounts of food with quality ingredients! All definitely priced right, in my opinion. The four of us are talking about brunch for next time! One of the owners, Sheila, stopped by our table and introduced herself. I think that pride in ownership and being visible is an asset to any dining establishment. Originally from Afghanistan, she and her husband have definitely put their hearts into this venture! There is a small parking lot in the back of the restaurant. Neighborhood street parking is plentiful. The food is tasty, the service friendly and atmosphere is relaxing. And there are so many more dishes to try. I will be a return customer for sure! We were able to get a party of 8 in ASAP!! We all wanted brunch but ended up ordering flatbreads. So good and big enough to share!! I definitely would not order the octopus flatbread again but the others were delish! read more
Came here last month for the first time and was instantly in love with this place. Happy hour was great. So far, we've tried the sliders, samosas, pakora, fish and chips and flatbread. All are outstandingly tasty. Love the Afghan dishes. The decor is nice and fits in well with this neighborhood. Owners are friendly and engaging with all of the customers. Wife and I have also come here for their monthly wine pairing event, and that is highly recommended. They give you nine, that's right, nine pours for the tasting dinner with elegant, upscale food pairings. Cannot rave enough about this place. read more

Would 100% percent recommend Brickland to anyone who enjoys good food, company, and atmosphere. Their servers and hostess were extremely welcoming and generous and the food had unique flavours. The fusions of both the cuisines Brickland offers provided a palette that not only satisfies my stomach but left me wanting more. The variety of this restaurant from the food, deserts, and coffee allows for the customer to be happy for all meals of the day. Lovely staff and warm atmosphere. Love this place ! read more

I've written a review on this restaurant before but wanted to discuss their monthly wine pairing event hosted by well known wine critic and author Rick Kushman. If you haven't attended it's one of the best deals in Sacramento. Rick works with executive chef Karel to pair wines from around the world as well as regional wineries and dishes especially created by Karel. Rick talks about each wine. He has you taste the different wines before the food course is served and vote and then taste it after you've tried the food and vote. Amazing how the pairing changes the second vote. It's a great way to enjoy fabulous dishes and learn about the wine. I've attended 4 of them so far and all have been great. Rick's wine knowledge, (his bad jokes aside) and the ambience of the restaurant create a party like atmosphere among those attending. Last time I brought along 3 guests and all were impressed by the food and the event. One of the best and fun events in Sacramento. Highly recommend it. The other cool thing they are doing are art receptions featuring local artists. The next one is an undiscovered artist from Russia who was actually working in their restaurant kitchen. When they saw his art that he was just doing for himself they convinced him to have a showing and you'll be blown away. I've already got one reserved. It's on June 14th at 5-8 PM. You will be able to meet this shy and humble artist , Aleksei Vystotski. They gave him the night off. LOL. Last is they are adding an Expresso bar featuring Temple coffee. The bar area is beautiful and with me being a sports fan it features two 85" flat screens. This bar area is separate from the dining area but you can still get full menu service. read more

Best Beloved and I had been talking about having dinner here for quite some time. We finally decided to try it. Joseph, our server was very kind, intelligent and quite knowledgeable about the food on the menu. We started with Brie Cheese: with fig jam, raisins, spiced honey, and cherry mostarda. Mantu: steamed dumplings filled with seasoned beef and onions, topped with split peas and flavored yogurt, garlic and micro greens. ***this is a particularly delicious dish. We were told that it is a street food in their country much like pizza is here...it's like a comfort food. I ordered Braised Lamb Shank: braised in tomato, vegetable and red wine, served with pan fried polenta and roasted carrot and a sprig of rosemary. And Buttered asparagus Best Beloved ordered: Chicken Kabob: Chicken thigh skewers topped with lemon cream, served with roasted potatoes, arugula, red onion, Kalamata olives salad, tossed in red wine vinegar and olive oil and sprinkled with feta cheese. He also ordered Carrot & Ginger soup. I ordered iced tea. Best Beloved ordered Strawberry Mint Soda. This meal was epic. Each dish was well thought out. Delicious and paired well with the other dishes we chose. The restaurant itself self was pretty quiet when we got there, but when it started filling up, the noise level picked up a bit. The decor was pleasant and music was at an acceptable level. They played a nice variety of genres.. all in all, it was a very pleasant meal. We plan to return. read more
So glad we finally tried brickland bistro. We were stunned by the inspired brunch menu, friendly staff, and pleasantly surprised to find they even have a pup menu! Loved sitting on the shaded dog friendly patio. The mimosa bottle price was too good to pass up. I got the aguacates (avocado toast three ways). Toppings were delicate and abundant, I only wish I had a little more toast to carry it all! My wife got the brickland rumi. Rich tomatoes and spices, topped with perfectly poached eggs. Again, only wish we had a little more pita to soak up all of the goodness! Can't wait to return and try the dinner service as the inside interior is tasteful with a full bar. Ps- we had Roman as our server and he was amazing! Great rec's, friendly tableside manner, and just as welcoming to the dogs! read more
Ambiance: the inside is so cute! There is a ton of seating and the atmopshere is very relaxing. Food: as a part of sac vegan challenge month, we tried the Ashak, Kadoo Buloni, Frisse + Arugula, and Mushroom Risotto. Ashak: I was a little disappointed by how little stuffing there was in these dumplings. There also wasn't much flavor. The yogurt wasn't tart either. I would not get this again. Kadoo Buloni: I really enjoyed the buloni. Each slice had a generous amount of butternut squash filling; it was the star of the show. Mushroom Risotto: I enjoyed this dish, but my friend did not like how heavy the taste of coconut was. The consistency was good and was not too dry. Would definitely get this again! Frisse + Arugula: this was a very standard salad for me, our meal was a bit carbohydrate heavy so we wanted to incorporate some veggies - this was one of the few options on the menu. It's a little on the pricier side for a salad, but at least it came with a larger serving size. read more
