With their second location/expansion venue opening at the Old Sacramento waterfront very soon, they didn't run any Pride Month deals this year at the Midtown Biergarten. However, through their Facebook page you can sign up for "VIP Loyalty" and get a couple of cool offers. The ones I could claim were a FREE Pretzel or a FREE One Sausage Platter. Older offers included FREE Custom Dog or FREE French Fries. These are available Sunday through Friday only, one offer per visit, not valid with any other offers, dine-in only. Show in person to staff and get a special code to redeem. I love their giant pretzels and sausage platters, and the fruity Starburst grapefruit radler beer with pom cider is such a summer vibe. Most recent visit was also able to catch the Argentina World Cup game on the projector. For my FREE offer I went with the one sausage platter (picked bratwurst and potato salad), then also got a 500mL Starburst and a pretzel with added bier cheese. Judi got the Berliner dog (curry and fries) and a cucumber salad, and we shared an order of the S'mores Belgie dessert! You enter without truly knowing where to go or what to do, so be observant as there may be an actual line to order drinks and food, just don't cut someone off. Ordering was easy. Same window for beer and food. If you order food you're given a number that people deliver food. Came here for happy hour. I got myself a pretzel with add-on cheese, a pulled pork (seasonal) Belgie with fries, and I sampled other food that my friends ordered. Firstly, the 1L beer is worth it. Not happy hour prices., but well worth the volume. It definitely transported me back to my visit to Munich and the beer halls. Oh, I do miss the drunken singing of the Germans lol Secondly, the food was just okay. Pretzels were thankfully cheaper since it was happy hour but i paid $1 for the add-on cheese. The mustard combo sauce was great. I wish the pretzel was a bit bigger. I appreciated the warmth and the salt ratio; not overpowering. The Belgie (waffle sandwich) was also on happy hour. The texture of the waffle was great. Crisp exterior, soft interior. I ordered the seasonal pulled pork which was great in texture and decently portioned. It is a thick boy, so biting into it was a bit of a challenge. Ended up deconstructing the sandwich and used utensils. Sauce maybe would've been better on the side. Fries always win. No complaints though I wish I ordered the garlic fries... the smell was good. One thing I didn't get to try was their famous, Starbust drink which is a mix of beer, cider and some frosty, maybe. The color was intriguing and everyone seemed to order it around me. The misters were on, which was a blessing and a curse. Definitely helped cool me down, but also became a nuisance as the table and all my belongings got wet. Excited for their new location in Old Sac. Maybe a revised review in the future. : Yesterday was my first time here. First, the good: The staff was very friendly. Service was fast. Great atmosphere, tasty beer (at least the one I tried), and they let you sample before choosing. They also have their own kitchen. Now, what I didn't like: The tables were not wiped down. Currywurst: the sausage seemed almost raw to me not grilled and not even browned -- and the portion was quite small. The fries, however, were pretty good. Schnitzel: not bad, but not good either. The schnitzel came with two lemon slices, one of which was moldy. The sauerkraut however was good. I wouldn't call the prices affordable, but if the portions were larger, that could be overlooked. Overall, guys, we left hungry and if it weren't for the beer and the staff, this would have been a one-star review. read more

Love the outdoor, casual vibe of Biergarten. It's been a downtown staple for years and years. We had to stop in when we took a shelter dog out for the day since they're dog-friendly. I always go for a big pour of the Starburst beer. It's so smooth and refreshing. But this was my first time trying the food, so we ordered a some hot dogs and garlic fries. The food came out quickly, and the staff was on top of it, clearing dishes and keeping everything moving. The garlic fries were honestly some of the best I've had; super craggy and garlicky. The dogs were good too. I loved the toppings and the spicy mustard, though the sausages themselves were a little bland. It's a fun place to hangout with a number of beers on tap that aren't as readily available on tap at other locations. Kudos to the team for that. Additionally, they have Jenga style blocks on the table, making it a great place for a fun date or groups to get together. It was very much used for both purposes while we were there, so vibes were great. Got a beverage and it was delicious. When asked, staff will also provide recommendations. For the food, I really wish it had hit the same. Each time I go to Germany, there is a non-negotiable for me. I've got to have some currywurst; it's one of my favorite things in the world. Even the lesser ones I've had in Germany have made me happy. I was hoping that the one here would transport me back to Germany. They make an effort, but there's something that just doesn't hit the same. The sauce here is really sweet. Almost BBQ sauce tasting because of the sweetness. There was a bit lack of curry element. Midtown Biergarten is one of my partner's favorite places to go for a bite to eat and a drink. This authentic charming beer garden is open air with tables and benches straight from Germany. Whenever possible, co-owner Sean Derfield makes sure that many of the beers on tap are from Germany as well. There's a limited menu featuring German sausages, salads, pretzels and Belgian Waffle sandwiches. On our latest visit, for Valentine's Day, we enjoyed the Starburst, a signature blend of rattler and cider, with a refreshing light and sweet taste. Have been here a few times with friends and will definitely keep coming back. Great lowkey spot to hang out and have some drinks outdoors. A good amount of seating considering how busy it gets, they have some games like hack sack, heaters for when it's cold and shade covers for when it's hot or drizzling. The staff have always been nice and friendly when I've been. They answer questions about the drinks on tap and will give samples so you can get a drink you like. Tonight we went to the opening of the new Biergarten location right on the river for the grand opening. We've been to the other location on K Street a handful of times but the new location really gives a vibe Sacramento has been missing. Enjoying a Starburst beer while overlooking the bridge during sunset is peak Sacramento living. We docked the boat at Old Town Sac and walked right in. Went early on a Thursday, was able to find free parking easily despite being in the busy center of midtown. There are long community tables, a cornhole row, and small patio. Dogs and smoking allowed, but all furry friends were well behaved. As it was early it wasn't packed, but there were at least four other small groups there. The gentleman behind the counter was enthusiastic and enjoyed talking to regulars, making the place feel very "local" in a nice way. I had the Derfinator Dog, without barbecue sauce, and a stein of Stiegl Raspberry Radler. The staff/kitchen was super accommodating, I was able to get a veggie dog wrapped in bacon to substitute the usual beef dog. The Derfinator was very good. Whatever brand of veggie dog they use has the exact same texture as a meat one, and was well seasoned by itself. The produce was fresh and not overwhelming, I was able to consistently take bites without losing any toppings which was preferred. The cream cheese went well with the hot sauce, and the homemade secret garlic sauce was great--going to ask for a side of it with the fries next time. The Radler was great. Refreshing, fruity, and low ABV make it a very easy drink to put away. The raspberry is the most prominent flavor, without much beer vibe. Absolutely recommend. Not tried but offered by the bartender: Radler Moscow Mule, which I'll definitely be having next time. read more

Decided to drop by Midtown Biergarten and it was exactly what I needed. It's an extremely relaxing spot with good vibes, and perfect for just chilling with some food and a beer. I decided to grab a pretzel and the sausage platter with garlic fries. Pretzel was warm, soft, salt. Came with mustard, ranch and other sauces which were a plus that had a nice little kick. Nothing fancy, just done right. The sausage platter was tasty. Couple of different kinds of their most popular sausage, all good, fries were crispy and hit the spot. Wow I felt like I was back in Germany from my Army days. I came here on a super pleasant August Saturday noon for lunch takeout. The Biergarten is open aired with cool artwork everywhere. Ordering was very easy at the cashier station. The server had spent a couple college semesters in Germany and was very friendly. The jagerschnitzel with traditional hunter gravy and sauerkraut were very well prepared and savory. The potato salad was vinegar based which was very light and tasty. The apple strudel was the highlight of my meal and was the best I've ever had period! I look forward to coming back to try the sausages. read more

Where you order your drinks and food is pretty straightforward and easy. The bartenders are usually very nice. There's plenty of bench seating and table picnic seating areas. There's also cornhole, which is pretty fun. I've walked in, I've stopped here on Sac Brew Bike and I've come here to meet up with friends. All of these experiences have been extremely fun and I highly recommend coming here for their drinks and they're delicious bites. read more

I keep coming back for more! Midtown BierGarten is a gem in Midtown. With their outdoor space, communal tables and delicious food and drinks they are the perfect spot for groups, singles, date nights or a chill hang out. We often stop here for a beer and some food on the weekends, and when friends visit from out of town this is at the top of our lists to bring them to. They offer typical German menu items as well as some fun ones that you won't find anywhere else. Our favorites to order are the pretzel with obatzda cheese, currywurst, and schnitzel. Their fries are also great and all the food is perfect with a nice cold beer. Depending on when you stop by it can get busy and seats are first come first sit, but typically everyone is nice and it's a great way to meet new people. They're also dog friendly and have water bowls available for your dogs as well as treats. Just make sure your dog plays well with others. In the back are some games and the bathrooms. Staff is great at coming around to pick up empty plates and glasses. There is plenty of street parking in the neighborhood that makes this an easy stop. Sausage was nice and crispy. Curry sauce a bit sweet for me and would have liked something spicy to go with it (my preference) but did ask to add dill pickles to counter the sweetness of the curry and have something acidic. Well we finally got around to hanging out in Der Biergarten in midtown. Super cute and cozy with a little cornhole to help you pass the time on a beautiful afternoon. When doesn't a good German beer hit the spot!?!?! We ordered the pretzel, jagerschnitzel, and some strudel to round it all out. Tasty food was delivered after placing our order at the counter.
