I recently had their Caesar Salad rap and chicken tender plate. Both tasted amazing, were full of flavor and are well-balanced meals. This is a tough one. If it was just about quality of ingredients and simplicity of the meal, they'd be a 5/5. No question. It's great quality food. The place is nice clean, modern, if you like modern. Kiosk ordering will save you 5-10 minutes because the staff is in no rush. A common northern California problem I've found, lol. These places act like all we have is time. Anyway.. The food is GOOD, but my goodness: no seasoning, no "hearth", rigid lame presentation, stingy portions. It felt clinical, like a hospital. We went twice in one day (lunch and dinner) to see if maybe we just ordered wrong. It's totally possible and happens a lot if you get around. For lunch she got the salmon and quinoa plate and I got the chicken braise with rice and extra chicken. We also shared a salad. This was the saddest looking salad. Minimal amount of leaves. 2-3 little lost tomatoes. No dressing on the salad either which is weird. They said we didn't specify. Not exactly normal. The salmon was nice and neat, had a whiff of blackening seasoning...which is to say next to none. The quinoa had nothing going on. And was a presence 1/2 cup of lucky. Come on man. At least make me feel like I ordered something for lunch. No plate dressing. No seasoning. Nada. Just fish and quinoa thrown on a plate. The chicken braise was good but watery and not hot. No extra chicken was found. In fact, I was looking for any chicken at all. For dinner, we did the family meal ordering with chicken and steak. For that amount of money, we were extremely disappointed in the lack of amount of meat meant to serve four people. We had to go back and order more just so our party would actually each get a portion...typically the protein in a family style meal is supposed to be figured at 8 ounces per person. This might've been 2 ounces per person if we had not gone back to pay for more. Sides were plentiful, but completely absent of any seasoning. The brussels sprouts I took particular issue with as they were undercooked, and also the root portion was left on them, which is borderline inedible. The mac & cheese looked amazing, cavatappi pasta, but zero flavor I'm talking, not even salt and pepper. I would recommend this place to people who like very plain basic food, and who are watching their salt intake, perhaps they're looking for an easy lunch option in the area. But for me, there's just too much great food and the northern California area to waste another dime at this place. We spent almost $300 that day on this place and other than quality of ingredients, which I can source and cook myself, there's nothing here for me. Last option recommendation. Not bad. The Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak Plate and Steak plate were very good. The meats were very tender, soft and airy. So easy to eat even for people without teeth!!! We have asparagus, Mac and cheese, herbs roasted marble/petite potatoes, rainbow carrots and golden beets, and garlic Parmesan roast mushrooms as our sides. I enjoy their menu options, but my last experience had me feeling like I'd rather go elsewhere for the price point. Kids steak - half of the steak pieces were cold and well done and the other half were still medium rare. Seemed like they gave me leftovers of another order and also tasted unseasoned. I'm also pretty lenient with service workers, but the first employee rudely told me where to get my online order; cashier wouldn't acknowledge me and another online order customer for a good 5+ minutes and then the first employee had me waiting again even though my bag was ready for pick up since I arrived. We looked at the menu displayed in front of the entrance, and I ended up being drawn to the niçoise salad (thanks to the movie White Chicks). Loved the open kitchen, and the high ceilings just helped the place feel less stuffy. Food didn't take long at all, and my niçoise salad was very flavorful. I personally enjoyed the acidity and other sharp tastes brought by the dressing and the niçoise olives. The hard-boiled egg helped balance it out slightly, but I can see this dish being a bit overpowering if you want something mellow. My ahi tuna was delicious as well, but I wouldn't have minded it being less cooked. Popped in on a Saturday afternoon. The parking lot LOOKS busy, but the restaurant itself was maybe 2/3 full. It was a little difficult to get a table at first because they don't seem to have any busboys to clear up the tables, so it was mostly the front servers cleaning up, which slowed things down since they would be stuck taking orders at times. The inside itself was nice. The decoration reminded me of another bar-type restaurant I tried, but it was well decorated with a nice open windows to bring in a lot of light. The food to me was just a 7/10. Nothing screams out at me or makes me feel like I'd have to have it again, aside from their desserts. My mom had seabass plate while my brother had the chimichurri steak plate. The fish came out super tiny, while the sides definitely overtook the fish. My brother mentioned the steak was just fine. Dad had the sustainable salmon and felt the fish was a little dry. It's a nice place. Now the food was just ok. We ordered a cheeseburger with crispy onions started to think it was tasty but about 10 minutes into the meal my stomach was not having it. The fries were tasty; we also tried the braised beef that my friend had rice with it. The broth that the beef was in was tasty and tender with potatoes and carrots, the rice was curry rice but we did not care for it. Should have done the mashed potatoes instead. For dessert we shared a cowgirl (oatmeal) cookie that was a flat not very big cookie expensive but was good. The place is clean. We stopped for lunch at Urban plates after riding on the American River trail. We really enjoyed our meal there. And the menu selections were unique and interesting. It my first time coming here because my boyfriend said he likes going to the SoCal locations. They have a wide menu of different options which is pretty cool. When you walk in you can order at the kiosk or at the counter. We got the grass fed steak and the surf and turf with two sides. We also ordered a root beer and an Arnold Palmer drink. They served our food first but our drinks didn't come out so we had to ask them about it. My drink was unsweetened tea which was okay. The steaks were not medium rare like it says on the menu. They were well done that was a little disappointing. We sat outside because it was a nice day and they had plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. The burgers are really good--sometimes they come out a bit overcooked when we ask for medium, but they've never had a problem replacing it, which we really appreciate. The salad with ahi tuna and the steak chimichurri were both delicious. The Moroccan chicken was okay--pretty basic and could use more flavor--but still decent. Opening a new restaurant comes with growing pains, though, and I believe in giving places a fair shot once they've had time to settle in. Today, a couple of friends invited me out to lunch and chose Urban Plates, so I decided to give it another go--and I'm glad I did. I feel like this visit gave me a much more accurate picture of the restaurant. I ordered using the kiosk, which I absolutely love. The process was easy and convenient, and my food came out quickly, warm, and fresh. We ordered the chicken Caesar wrap with a side of French fries, and everything was absolutely delicious. The fries were some of the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and crispy. The wrap was flavorful, filling, and satisfying, and I especially loved that they left the croutons inside. I'm a sucker for mixed textures, and that crunch really made the wrap for me. The staff also deserves a shout-out. They checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed, which made the experience even better. Urban Plates also has a large menu with tons of options, which I appreciate. One of my favorite things--especially since I'm on a weight-loss journey--is that they list calorie counts throughout the menu. Calories are king for me, and having that information readily available makes it so much easier to choose something that fits within my daily budget. I can confidently say I'll be back. Arrived at around 5:30pm, and there were plenty of tables available. Customers trickled in and out. There were quite a few items on the menu to choose from. Placed an order for the seafood chowder and the chimichurri steak with the parmesan garlic mushrooms, and the recommended brussels sprouts. Steak cooked to either well or medium rare - I went with the medium rare. The soup, entree, and soda came out to about $36 (not including tip). Unfortunately, I was disappointed as the chowder and steak were quite bland and lacked flavor. There wasn't a whole lot of chimichurri added and the steak was tough. The brussels sprouts were ok. The mushrooms were also ok, but couldn't eat more than a few bites as they started to be a bit overpowering. Also a bit unappetizing as there was a pool of oil underneath it all. We visited Jack's Urban Eats recently and unfortunately our experience at the register left us feeling uncomfortable. The young Asian girl taking our order seemed to rush us through before we could even finish ordering, despite there being no line behind us and most customers already seated eating. I even respectfully asked if she was in a hurry because the interaction felt very rushed and tense. I understand everyone can have off days, and maybe she had dealt with difficult customers earlier, but as paying customers we still hope to feel welcomed and given a moment to place our order comfortably. The food itself was good, but the customer service at the register definitely affected our overall experience. We gave this spot a second try and it was great! I gave the Mac and cheese another shot and this time it was much tastier and cheesier. My only complaint was that it was cold! Maybe the third times the charm?! Do yourself a favor and get the chicken tenders, they are humongous, juicy, and full of flavor. I really like Urban Plates for a few reasons. Good location, ample parking, and menu choices are healthy compared to a lot of the other food options in the area. It's not the cheapest place, but portions are generous and I've liked everything I have tried so far. I recommend the moroccan chicken braise, the salads, chicken plates, and the desserts. The most recent visit I got the teriyaki chicken plate with two sides (I picked pita and hummus, and sesame broccoli). It included a good amount of chicken, nicely flavored broccoli, slight crisp to the pita chips and the hummus was nice and smooth. We came on a Saturday afternoon. The location has inside and outside dinning. We have tried this restaurant in the bay area and it didn't disappoint so we wanted to try this Sacramento location. The staff was a little flabbergasted as their system wasn't working and they were confused and back and forth on what to do. We ended up doing self service kiosk. The turkey club was filling and tasty with plenty of crispy fries. Their agua frescas were refreshing and they gave us various refills. The burger is grass fed and super juicy and well seasoned. They gave one our dishes to the wrong table and had us wait a while but they apologized and comped us a slice of their hummingbird cake that was perfect for my very intense sweet tooth. Entree: the steak flavor wise wasn't bad. But the fact that it comes pre cut feels like you're getting ripped off. It has no juice. And there's maybe 1oz of each piece. The iced tea took a while to arrive, but it did have nugget ice and was in a mason jar presentation. Plates were cleared after some time too.
