We came here a few times pre-pandemic and I didn't remember being wowed, so I wanted to give them another chance. Unfortunately, we concluded that the food is fine but there are better places in Sacramento for pasta. The bolognese was fine, but needed more salt and umami - maybe some freshly grated parmigiano reggiano would have done the trick. My partner liked the Alfredo - he said it was not too thick / creamy. Both used the same type of pasta and while I appreciated that it was handmade, it was missing the classic al dente bite I like in great pasta. In the last year or so, I feel like the service has been a little more hit or miss, but I think they have gotten back to solid ground lately. The food however is always spot on. Everything I have had has always been delicious - the stuffed pepper appetizers are especially good! They maintain such a cozy, authentic atmosphere inside, and I absolutely love dining in here. We had such a wonderful time at Adamo's for their pasta cooking class! It was a fun and memorable experience, and a perfect way to celebrate mother's day. John, the owner, was an incredible instructor and guided us through some of the steps of making fresh raviol. We mixed the pasta dough, rolled it out and prepped the filling. The class was hands-on, engaging, and approachable for all skill levels. In addition to the cooking lesson, we were treated to a delicious cheese and jam appetizer, a fresh salad, and the opportunity to sample a couple wines throughout the class. The highlight, of course, was enjoying the ravioli we made ourselves, served with our choice between sauces. And it was honestly some of the best ravioli I've ever had! I live in Southern California, but was born and raised in Sac. Based on Yelp recs, this came up and was very popular, requiring reservations, which I did. Place was busy, but still seemed accommodating. The gentleman that served us made great recommendations, including letting the wine to breathe. So, this is the reason for 3 stars. 1) About 30 plus minutes in, our entree was served and I had to ask for the salad. We were too patient to ask while we waited. 2) Only 3 in our party so only small glasses of water served individually. 3) Entrees served at the same time but two of the 3 were lukewarm. Honestly, I prefer this place over Paesanos. Had a great experience from the time I was greeted at the door to the time I left with a happy stomach. Got here at 6:30 party of 2 and was able to snag the last two seats at the bar. The waitress Jade was super friendly and awesome! Everything hit the spot: Octopus Appetizer 9/10. I love freshly made pasta so I was excited to try Adamos. I had a reservation but they were busy so it took about 15 minutes to get seated. When I asked whether the carbonara or Alfredo was better our server was very confident in her response which I appreciated. I got the carbonara and really enjoyed it (though I wish the noodles were a little more al dente which I will ask for in future). My partner got the Bolognese, which he really liked. It had a good meaty flour, but wasn't a really overly rich. My friend got the pasta with the salmon and I had a taste of it. It was good, but I preferred the carbonara or the Bolognese. The side salad that came with the pastas was very fresh. We also had the arancini balls and the tiramisu which were both tasty but the pasta was the stand out. We were lucky enough to get seated in less than 5 mins on a Friday night without a reservation, although we were sat at the communal table. A small but cute place. It did take a while for food to come out but it was also packed. We started off with the bruschetta, which was all delicious. The pesto one needs to be reordered again cause it was so good. I ordered the carbonara and my bf ordered the four cheese ravioli with chicken. The carbonara was packed with so much garlic, I've never had so much garlic over power the saltiness of a dish. There wasn't a good balance between the two so this dish is a 3/10 for me. The four cheese ravioli however was really good and I wish I had gotten that instead. I went here for a date night, it was the absolute perfect vibe. The restaurant was dimly lit with warm lights. The host was very friendly, seated us right away since we had a reservation. Which I highly recommend because the whole place was packed! I saw a lot of people turned away because there were no tables open. Unless they were willing to sit at the bar. I will say this place prioritizes the experience rather than quick service. Which I liked, it's part of European culture! To take things slow and enjoy. Which has also been proven to help with digestion and prevent overeating. The entree reached the table in about 45 minutes after we had placed our order. Pasta was amazing! Every pasta order comes with house salad and garlic bread. We ordered the bolognese and salmon piccata. Both were delicious but the salmon piccata was my favorite. The bolognese ground beef and sauce was tasty and topped with a good amount of parmesan cheese, this dish cooled down pretty fast though. The salmon piccata had great flavor, it was citrusy but not too sour, and the salmon was cooked perfectly. I love their homemade pasta, it is softer than most Italian restaurants but works well with all their pastas. I came in on a Saturday with reservations and had to wait an additional 15 minutes for my table to be ready. I ordered shortly thereafter and the food did not come out until OVER AN HOUR. I don't know what's going on in the back of that kitchen but they need either more chefs or some better multitaskers. Luckily the carbonara was exquisite and made up for some of the wait. One of Midtown's most delicious hidden gems! I've walked by Adamo's plenty of times and recently stopped by for dinner. My partner and I arrived just after opening, and almost every table was already seated! You definitely need a reservation if you're planning to dine in. We were given the option of sitting at the community table or bar, and we opted for the bar top. Despite having a small crew, service was on top of it, and we were well taken care of. We ordered an Italian beer and wine, Summer Arancini, Carbonara, and Gnocchi. Everything came out just right, and you can tell that Adamo's uses high quality ingredients. I noticed that they're promoting pasta making classes and recommend following their Instagram to keep up with their special events. This place is sooo good. One of the better Italian places you can find in Sacramento. I think, as of late, it has blown up on social media, so it's been harder to get a reservation. The staff are polite and do their best to accommodate long lines, but can seem a bit rushed/brusque. Food for thought: why do we accept bad service at a Chinese restaurant in lieu of good food, but have higher standards for Italian or American places? I suppose the food prices may also play a factor. The restaurant always has a cozy warm feel with brick and wood decor while still feeling mid-scale. Offerings: - Bruschetta: This comes with a variety of four different types of bruschetta, so for the picky eaters in our party, they were disappointed with only being able to have two versions. We, on the other hand, enjoyed all of them. The "wild ones" were our favorites. Caramelized onion jam and basil pesto! - Bolognese: This has always been a staple here but I will say I find it complex but maybe lacking in salt a bit. The mirepoix really shines through. - Carbonara: excellent flavor, no notes. Beware, this is a rich dish! - La Medusa: This was my attempt to break out of my ordering cycle and I was pleasantly surprised. The squid ink noodles were cooked perfectly al dente. The clam shells were a fun addition to maneuver and the pancetta provides the perfect salty kick. I also found the dish has a bit of spice from the jalapeño! - Creamy White Wine: They usually have a version of this dish on the menu and the flavor is very consistent while the ingredients may not be. The beet pasta was colorful and fun! I will say, the sauce is a bit on the acidic side but still very good. - House Salad: I don't particularly love the house salad. It feels very basic (I guess that's what house salads are), and the pickled onions are a bit much for me. The tomatoes that come in it are delicious though! There are 60 free parking spots available and has an optional paid parking lot ($5) right next to the restaurant. There is also paid street parking available. It reminds me of a hole in the wall. The restroom is average looking so for those of who you care, reference my picture. It does not have the most luxurious interior if you are looking for a 5 star Il Fornaio type restaurant. The hype on this restaurant is through the roof! From Reddit to word of mouth, everyone talks about how this is the standard for Italian food in Sac. So you already know I had to come here and try this place out and leave one of my in depth reviews. The service was alright. The wait was almost an hour for our food! Our server was also a bit busy to check up on us regularly. I understand that they were very busy when we showed up (6PM), we were in a larger party, and they were short staffed. Also that the pasta is made in house which might take some more time. Just for the wait I had to remove a star but truthfully, the flavor out paces the wait. If I could leave a 4.5 star review I would. Just something to note if you are terribly hungry and don't want to wait too long. This food here is amazing. Authentic Italian for sure. The flavor of the house salad was delicious. It had fresh greens that weren't too crunchy and also not too soft. The bread was packed with flavor and crunchy. The bolognese pasta was fantastic. I don't think I've had a pasta that has more flavor, they made it with love. The chicken pesto sandwich...BANGERRR. It was literally the best sandwich I have ever had. I'm a huge pesto lover and it the flavor was so overpowering, I fell in love with the dish. It's like that ratatouille scene where it takes you back in time to where you were a kid. The prices are a bit steep. Don't expect to walk out of here for under $45 for a meal for two making this a ($$$) for me. The portions are on the smaller side. Tried this spot while visiting a couple friends who live in the area. It looks pretty divey on the outside, but is nice on the inside. We went with the following: Bruschetta - there were two slices with each of the four spreads/toppings. I thought they were all tasty but the cheese and the onion ones were my favorite. My friend liked the pesto the best. My other friend said they would be good. All smashed together on one piece of bread lol Arancini - these are okay. They were too overwhelmingly seasoned with something that tasted more Mexican than Italian. I would not get them again . Bolognese - The pasta itself was a perfect thickness and tenderness and the sauce was extremely Hardy and well seasoned Meatballs and polenta - I didn't try the polenta but the meatballs were okay. They're not very dense but not very soft either. But they definitely have something in them that tasted more Asian? We think maybe fish sauce? Carbonara - I didn't try this but it looks good and my friend had no complaints Olive oil cake - I've never had olive oil cake before so I have no idea if this is a good one or not. It tasted fresh and very moist. The cream was supposed to be strawberry flavored but I didn't really taste any of that. This restaurant is deceiving! From the outside, you think it that might be a simple looking, slightly shady restaurant in a shady-ish area of town. When you enter, it transforms into a chic, cosmopolitan little space that looks very inviting. I would recommend getting a reservation especially if you are a bigger group because they were busy on a Friday night! Thankfully, we could get seated at the bar. The menu is well-thought out. It isn't extensive, but we liked that they offer some classics and some of their own culinary fusions. We think they are attempting to create their name in the Italian cuisine industry here in Sac, as they seem to have updated menu items, they serve wines from their family vineyards in Italy and are also promoting pasta making classes. I love that! Ok, onto the wine and food. I ordered their classic white, which was 50% Chardonnay and 50% blend and my husband ordered their classic red, which was a red blend. I don't know which component of my white was buttery, but the wine wasn't as crisp as I was hoping for. The red blend was better. Food wise, they did a good job overall. We ordered their stuffed cherry peppers as an appetizer, the gnocchi, and the four cheese ravioli. The stuffed cherry peppers were simple, elegant and delicious! The plate was a few cherry peppers stuffed with goat cheese served on a bed arugula with a drizzle of an excellent balsamic vinaigrette with some black pepper. The simplicity of the components made this plate even more delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Highly recommend ordering this appetizer. Onto the pastas: the gnocchi was excellent - light, melting in the mouth with ample amount of delicious sauce. This is one of the best gnocchi plates my husband has had, and he is particular about his gnocchi! The garlic bread was a tad disappointing because it could have done with a more butter and garlic. It felt a little dry and didn't taste like fresh bread. Dipping it in the gnocchi sauce helped, but I would've liked better bread. The four cheese ravioli took some bites for me to like it. My main issue with it was that I thought the ravioli was slightly undercooked but my husband felt it was ok. The pastas are all handmade so we commend them on making the ravioli but maybe we needed to boil it for a couple more minutes? The sauce for the ravioli was very good - spicy thanks to the peppers, lots of pine nuts and spinach. The cheese inside the ravioli was decent, but just that - cheese, no additional flavors there. I had the same complaint about the garlic bread not being buttered/garlicky enough. I think this dish is almost there but needs a few tweaks. For dessert, we got the tiramisu. The look of it was disappointing because it was not made as a big portion but constructed in a jar. The look was aesthetically pleasing for a flair but this meant that the dessert didn't come together like a normal tiramisu does. It was also overtly sweet. The color was quite pale. We would've liked more coffee. We've definitely had better tiramisu desserts before. I think this is a great restaurant. Their service is fast, the servers are friendly and once inside, you forget how the outside is! They have some cool decor like the wall of $2 bills. Amazing Italian food and a great choice to stop by if you're in the area. Adamo's is a small restaurant so they do fill up quickly especially during peak hours. I recommend making a reservation during the weekend like we did. I'll get to what we had quickly because that's what you're here for. :) Summer Arancini - 7/10 this had a Mexican flair which was unexpected in an Italian restaurant. The flavors reminded me of enchiladas with red sauce and the aioli was cilantro lime which was good but again unexpected. Peach Salad - 10/10 refreshing and light. Perfect for summer with all the fruit, tangy goat cheese, and crunchy candied pecans. Bruschetta - 6/10 this came with 4 different kinds and we all only enjoyed the Chèvre + Jam. Caramelized Onion, Basil Pesto, and Divana Tomatoes all didn't taste like it had much of a flavor profile and absolutely needed some seasoning. Four Cheese Ravioli - 7/10 good however I think I would've much rather enjoyed a creamy white sauce pasta. Loved the ravioli just not a huge fan of the Calabrian chili. It had a good kick yet just wasn't a winning dish for me. Carbonara - 10/10 simplicity at its finest and will always be a winner in my book. We ordered the Arancini which lacked flavor I felt like I had to put the whole salt and pepper shaker on it to eat it. However it was crispy and the Rosita was cooked well I just which it had more depth. Would NOT recommend. The house salad that came with our entrees was delicious but I felt like I was fighting my fork to get it in my mouth. The tomatoes were delicious though. I ordered the Salmon piccata which was well seasoned and very lemony. The fish was cooked a great. My partner order the bolognese which was pretty good. Its definitely a neighborhood friendly joint. You get seated at the bar if you have no reservation, and apparently reservations are near impossible to get. We don't go for Italian very often, but the weather lately has been perfect for it, and we were very tempted by a recent photo and video spread from our buddy Alex T. on his recent visit to Adamo's. Last week we came in for dinner and had a wonderful evening. Everything was fantastic and top tier. My honey made us a reservation for 7, and this worked out well because the space is on the smaller side and it was busy on a weeknight. We were showed to our bench seat right away, and throughout the visit I felt that the service was attentive for the most part. One dish was cleared before we were finished with it, that's my only quibble. It was done so quickly I wasn't able to say anything in time without raising my voice, which I was not going to do, thank you. I'm sure it was an accident ...but it felt awkward. I ordered the vegetarian winter mushroom gnocchi (one of the only ways to get me to eat squash) and we ordered the bruschetta medley to share. Both were perfect. Dinner entrees come with fresh garlic bread and a side house salad (yay pickled onions!). I loved the different bruschetta, especially the fresh tomato and caramelized onion versions. I don't think I've ever had better gnocchi in my life. We each had a glass of red as well. My Sangiovese went well with what I ordered, and the pours were generous. All in all, this is a solid date night spot, and the food tastes like it should cost twice as much in my opinion. I would definitely come back to try some of the other pasta offerings. Service is mostly friendly, and the space is nice. Apparently they have pasta making classes. Sounds fun! this was a takeout experience. Order ahead was easy as pie. We didn't have a reservation, and we were not sure about big group dining so we ordered takeout as a result to avoid challenges. However, it appears that they can accommodate larger parties with relative ease. There is a paid parking lot adjacent the restaurant and street parking as well. The ambiance inside appeared cozy and intimate setting. The food took about 10 minutes longer than requested to be ready, but it was not a big deal. We ordered the caesar salad and realized there was absolutely no dressing. We were so disappointed because we ordered it for their "house anchovy dressing". House salad - they pre-packed these with their dressing. They were stored in the fridge altogether so the olive oil solidify in the cold as a result. This took some time to thaw and soften. TBH, I didn't even add the dressing. The onions and pepper were pickled and added flavors to the salad. Risotto - this was delicious and well executed. the grains are al dente. the flavor is rich and creamy. Gnocchi - the current menu's versions is light and spicy, the ricotta goes so well with it! Bolognese - this one hits the spot just perfectly. It is seasoned just right not to salty and flavor is spot on. Carbonara - wow, we haven't had a decent carbonara that doesn't separate. I'm so sad to say that I will probably never come back here. My last visit was wonderful and delicious. This time it took about 30 minutes to get the most basic pasta that they offered. The carbonara and chicken Alfredo. The servers never checked on us even tho they weren't busy. The pastas were so bland, not hot, and almost tasteless besides the boat loss of garlic on the carbonara. The portion sizes were even more d disappointing for the price. Adamo's should change its name to Iwantmo because every dish had me wanting more. This cozy little family owned Italian restaurant nestled in the heart of midtown is serving up some of the freshest homemade pasta in the area. I came in with high expectations and they didn't disappoint. As you walk in, you get a little vibe of Italy with giant pictures of different t places in Italy and the smell of fresh mozzarella and pasta flowing throughout. I had the Alfredo, octopus, and a nice Pinot Grigio. Loved every bite. The service was very pleasing giving great a great restaurant experience. read more
