I've been coming to Cafe Dantorels for about 10 years, and they never disappoint! The restaurant is always clean, and the staff consistently provide great customer service. My go-to order is the California Crepe with chicken and avocado, along with their orange juice. Usually, orange juice upsets my stomach, but for some reason, I can tolerate theirs! The food is delicious and the quality has stayed consistent over the years. My only downsides are that it can be a little pricey and parking is limited. Husband surprised me with a lunch date, and he knows me so well when it comes to the cafés and restaurants I love. The place he picked, Dantorels, did NOT disappoint! Dantorels is such a classy and elegant spot. I really love that they serve pretty much everything on their menu all day long. Want pasta at 8 in the morning? You can get it! Crêpes at 3 in the afternoon? Absolutely! The ordering process is pretty simple. Once you walk in, you're handed a menu, you decide what you'd like, place your order at the register, get a number, and then pick your favorite spot to sit. The inside is a good size, and they also have outdoor seating. They even have a place to park your bike. The service was great! We were checked on a few times to make sure we had everything we needed and to see if we wanted anything else. I ordered the chicken and spinach ravioli, and my husband got the classic eggs Benedict. Both were delicious! It is a little on the pricier side, but honestly, I think it's worth it. This is definitely a place I would bring my girlfriends for a nice lunch date Parking can be a little tricky since there isn't a large parking lot, so you'll most likely have to park on the street. The ambiance is perfect. You could write a novel in this restaurant being inspired by the interior design and architecture. The food service came across as friendly, but you serve yourself mostly. Portions are generously given and carefully plated. Toppings are plentiful, maybe even too much so when it comes to the Lox and Bagel plate. Haven't been since I moved out of Curtis Park and was really happy to return! A friend and I met for lunch around 10:30 on a Saturday morning. I could be wrong but the inside looks like it may have been redone or redecorated and it looks great! The menu used to be up above the register and it still might be big I didn't see it. They do have the menus at the counters to order. I ordered the protein bagel which came with egg whites, turkey, spinach, red onions, cucumbers and pesto. I also ordered a side of chicken apple sausage. The bagel was amazing, but it was a little difficult to eat. Loved the chicken apple sausage too. I also ordered one of their coffee specials which was also good. The service was great and our food came out pretty quick. Once we finished our plates were taken. My dining partner and I came here because we were really craving salads and didn't want to go to one of the chain salad places. While their salads are not cheap, they are a much better value than other non-chain restaurants that serve salads because of their top quality ingredients and the sheer size. Initially wanted to do a half sandwich and half salad my dining partner and I each one is separate types of salads, but then I saw the steak sandwich and they did not do the half steak sandwich with a half salad so we ordered a full salad and order the steak sandwich where we each had a giant half chicken, arugula, salad, and large halves of steak sandwich, and we also got our second choice of salad Fugi Apple with candied walnuts by paying a four dollar upgrade to having it instead of the french fries. They do substitute a plain dinner side salad for the fries free of charge , but I wanted the special Fugi salad, which is so so good. The amount of high-quality chicken on the arugula salad was truly impressive, and the super soft giant slice of focaccia made the salad quite the meal! Initially, I was a little disappointed to see that the steak wasn't a whole steak and was sliced into three slices, but after I tasted it, it tasted like the most tender awesome steak without any fat or grizzle that a whole steak often comes with and it wasn't anything like a Philly cheesesteak which is something I don't like. So I was super happy with the steak sandwich. Cafe Dantorels is an order at the counter and take your number and be seated. Serve your own water, kind of place which saves on staff and seems to be quite efficient. Also allows for people that are dining with other people where they don't want to have one bill they can easily just pay for their own meal and not have a be awkward. The interior is inviting and there's a giant patio in the back that's covered for a large groups and then there's quaint seating around the exterior of the restaurant, which is my favorite. The Tuna Melt was good sized with provolone, mayo, tuna salad, roasted red peppers and red onion on wheat bread, my wife raved on the taste, on top of this it was served with fries (In-in out like) the dish was very good. I had the Cheeseburger, well done with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions on a soft bun, also served with fries (In-in out like), so good. The burger had amazing flavor, it was a large patty fyi and also served with a pickle. There are so many other food options this is the type of spot that you can visit over and over and not grow tired of their food. The setting is unique, built on a corner of a main road, its surrounded by an amazing neighborhood, the interior of the cafe has many table size options, they also have a wraparound outdoor seating area facing the neighborhood or you can experience the covered back patio, it has a large outdoor seating section, it looked like they had ceiling heaters or heaters of some type. The entire location is well decorated, one of the most eye catching were the various planters along the outdoor seating area, not only do they give you some privacy, but they are also very appealing. As far as the service, it was fair, most employees were nice, but they seem very busy and focused on their task's vs the customers, overall a good experience. Home Made Veggie Burger ($22, Grade A) - Chickpeas and white bean patty, chipotle mayo, lettuce, onion, jack cheese, tomatoes, dill pickles, and peas sprouts. The bun is toasted so you get a bonus textural component. The patty may look like a boring Garden Burger, but it is nothing like the frozen patties you find at a grocery store. It's hearty and packs a lot of flavor in every bite. The fries appear house cut as well and were nicely salted. Add a pickle wedge and this is a burger to definitely come back for. Bottom line. Lively, festive environment. Staff is very friendly. They were accommodating enough to reserve a large table for us on the covered patio. They have order-at-the-counter service and then bring your food to your table. Been here a handful of times and it always does the trick. Ordered the ham and cheese Benedict and never did I expect an entire sandwich then topped with eggs benny and it was incredible. It was huge and more than enough to share. The prices aren't cheap but the food tends to be quite large and very filling. I also had a lemon poppyseed scone that was very good, not dense or sticky. Also got the special German coffee which was one of the best coffees I'd had in a while. My go-to is always the Sacramento Scramble which has chicken apple sausage, mushrooms, spinach, corn, onions, and jack cheese, and it's also served with potatoes and toast on the side! I've also tried their iced vanilla coffee before which was mid-tier, but their hot tiramisu latte was amazing. The latte art was even cuter-- just look at it! They ended up featuring my picture on their instagram which was really cool. The way it works is that you go in and order at the counter, then they give you a table number and bring your meal out for you. Pretty simple. The vibe of this place is also really cozy. The sandwich has a roasted red bell pepper inside so that was something different for me. The sandwich was good and so were my fries. The Fuji salad was tossed nicely with the vinaigrette dressing. We've been trying to find a brunch spot that serves traditional eggs benedict with Canadian bacon, and we stumbled upon Cafe Dantorels. We walked in and ordered TWO eggs benedict dishes, paid, and sat patiently. One dish came out, and we assumed the next would follow. After nearly 5 minutes, I wondered what was going on because they didn't take our table number away, so I figured they were still working on the other dish. Well, it turns out the woman who took my order only put one in. This ended up being fine because it was not good at all. The flavors were off, the eggs were way undercooked (not just runny yolk like it should be but very runny whites), and the potatoes were so mushy. Service here is subpar. It just seems like a bunch of kids who could not care less about good customer service. They'd rather just walk around, lazily do the bare minimum, and just laugh and joke with each other. Around 12:15 p.m. a man arrived with 2 kids who immediately began making LOUD noises, knocking chairs over and then turning on a kid's device that was screaming loud. (like bringing a TV with them and turning it up as loud as it would go) The man did nothing. He just ignored the hubbub. Finally none of us could hear and we asked the man to turn it down. The mother of this group arrived at that moment and literally started SCREAMING at the person who asked that it be turned down. She was completely rude and RAGING saying he kids could make as much noise as they wanted and if people did not like it they could leave. Clearly this poor restaurant owner and management has to decide how to set limits with rude people like this who expect that the world turns just for them. We left asap and wonder if we will ever return to enjoy this restaurant again. There needs to be RULES for everyone. Protecting your customers is of utmost importance. This is the second time this has happened to me at this restaurant. What is going on in the world? This is not parenting! I had a dinner of a spicy and flavorful kabob with rice (good) and a blood orange cider (good, interesting too, and with wonderful color). The veggies skewer looked very colorful, but in fact had essentially no seasoning and were not the highlight. On the other hand, the salad was quite good. I had a smoked salmon benedict for breakfast with Earl Grey tea -- a good breakfast. The eggs were poached well, the salmon was tasty - though the potatoes were a little crunch/underdone (a minor quibble, but worth mentioning).
