I went to Old Soul Co. in Sacramento and tried the matcha with oat milk, naturally sweetened with honey. It was a solid 9.5/10 for me. Smooth, not too sweet, and definitely something I'd order again. They also have dairy free options, which I appreciated, and a vegetarian breakfast burrito that was actually really good. I'm always happy when a place has more than one vegetarian option instead of making me survive off vibes and a pastry The staff was honestly a whole vibe too. They were patient, went over all the matcha options with me, and we ended up laughing because the cashier wasn't sure which dairy-free milk would be best. His coworker came over like, "Of course oat milk," and I was like, bet, let's do it Staff gets a 10/10 from me. A solid coffee option in downtown Sacramento! We like that it is nice and close to the convention center so we can walk there when we are down for events. They are always quick and efficient and both the drinks and food are good. I especially enjoy their seasonal matcha offerings. Old Soul Coffee on L Street has a pretty good location. For quite some time I've enjoyed it-kind of tucked away hidden on a little alley near 17th and L Street. Generally not the type of place you find accidentally. I don't feel like that changes at all once you walk in the door. It''s not a loud place, almost every time I've been here, it seems to be parties of 3 or less, but usually less than that, either studying or getting work done on a laptop while drinking a coffee relishing in the quaint quiet steadiness of the shop. The spot kinda looks like it's always still under construction but after many visits I realize now that's just the decor. Parking is available here in a nearby lot though ample street parking seems to be the spot I choose on most visits. The employees are not annoyingly enthusiastic yet they are friendly, but more in an energy that matches the room kinda friendly. There are plenty of tables for customers at this shop along with my favorite pair of recliner-type chairs near the front of the store. This particular visit we decided we just wanted coffee and we went with an Iced Vanilla Latte ($7.50) and a Sea Salt and Honey Shaken Espresso ($6.75). The drinks came out very quickly-less than a five minute wait. I've always adored the Sea Salt Honey Espresso drink, as it's been my go-to at Old Soul ever since I discovered it there.This visit was no different as it was still so yummy and the perfect afternoon pick-me-up as I set out for a busy rest of the day. The wifey loved her vanilla iced latte, Old Soul has always used quality coffee beans and that looks like that hasn't changed as their coffee is as tasty as ever. Old Soul does offer pastries but we never really had a chance to try them on this visit as we had multiple food plans later that day but I can say from experience-I've always enjoyed their pastries when I was lucky enough to order one. 1-star review This was honestly one of the worst experiences I've had. We ordered three identical sandwiches, and while eating mine, I discovered an insect that appeared to be a flea inside the sandwich. I took a video immediately. Obviously, after finding this, none of us felt comfortable eating the other two sandwiches, even though they were the exact same item. What made the situation even more frustrating was the owner's response. He refused to refund the other two sandwiches, saying that I would have to find a flea in each individual sandwich before he would refund them. That is completely unreasonable. Once we found an insect in one sandwich, why would we continue eating the other two identical sandwiches? (In fact, we completely stopped eating all of the food items) The food safety issue was already concerning enough, but the way the owner handled it made the experience even worse. Instead of taking responsibility and understanding why we were no longer comfortable eating the food, we were essentially told that we needed to find three fleas before he would consider refunding all three sandwiches. So. . .I met a friend here to catch up and we had a decent experience. She ordered a mocha latte and I ordered a lavender latte. We also ordered the greens salad. We got our drinks fairly quickly, but it took 25 minutes for us to get our salad with no meat. That was a little disappointing given that it was just a salad and also, someone else ordered after us but received their food before we did. We ran out of time and ended up having to take our salads to go. My friend really liked her mocha latte, but my lavender latte did not really have the lavender flavor in it and the salads were just OK. I'm not sure if they were shortstaffed and things were rushed, but I can't say that I was impressed. It's a super cute spot, but the energy was different. The customer service was just OK. Not super friendly, but not rude either. It gave the energy of "tired". Our experience was pretty mediocre, but I do plan on checking it out again. The last time I did a review was in 2015. A lot has changed since then. My husband used to stop in regularly and get pastries for his office. He'd literally buy them out. We really enjoyed their pastries for years. Since then we've moved and it's not on our way to work and home any more. They are located in a back alley and if you don't know about them you may not see them. Lots of people have discovered them as there is always people milling around inside. It used to be mainly a coffee shop. Now they sell lots of lunch like foods such as salads, sandwiches, and pizza. Pizza is defiantly a new addition. They have a separate sign for there pizza selections. They also sell beer now. I'm not sure if that includes wine too. I'll look next time for you. They also serve root beer floats and coffee over ice cream. We always walk so parking isn't an issue for us. There is a lot next to them so I'm thinking you can park there for a fee. Unfortunately, I left this restaurant very disappointed. The cleanliness of the restaurant was concerning, and the overall experience did not meet the standard I would expect from a place serving food. One particular issue was the "smoked salmon" breakfast sandwich. The description should be much more specific about what is actually being served. I was expecting the typical cold-smoked salmon you would normally associate with a smoked salmon breakfast sandwich, often served with ingredients such as capers. Instead, the salmon was fully cooked. That is a significant difference in both preparation and taste, and I think customers should be made aware of it in the menu description. More concerning, while I was there, I witnessed another customer find a bug in their food. What was especially disappointing was how the situation was handled by the owners. I felt the response was unprofessional and did not demonstrate the level of concern or customer care I would expect when a customer discovers something like that in their meal. The incident understandably made the rest of the customer's family uncomfortable enough that they did not finish their food. The situation affected me as well. I had also ordered a sandwich, and after seeing a bug found in another customer's food and seeing how the situation was handled, I became extremely uncomfortable and nauseous and could not enjoy the rest of my meal. While I cannot say the sandwich itself caused the nausea, the experience certainly made it difficult for me to continue eating. Between the cleanliness concerns, the lack of clarity regarding the menu (specifically salmon sandwich), and the way the food-safety incident was handled, the overall experience left a very poor impression. I had their carnitas breakfast sandwich - biscuit was flaky and very tasty, carnitas very flavorful and the aioli not over powering. What's the point of offering online ordering if employees refuse to make the order until the customer personally reminds them? I waited over 30 minutes for two drinks that took roughly three minutes to prepare. The employee only started making them after I asked whether my order was ready. Her explanation was that they don't make online orders until customers show up because some people never come, or because ice might melt. That's not how mobile ordering works. The entire reason people order ahead is so the drinks are ready when they arrive. Instead, my order was apparently ignored while I stood there waiting with no communication whatsoever. If customers are expected to announce themselves before their order will even be started, that should be clearly stated when ordering. Otherwise, this is just wasting people's time and defeating the purpose of the service entirely. Extremely frustrating experience. read more

I had gone to Old Soul at the Alley last week for a mixer and noticed that they also made pizza. I scheduled a follow up meeting at their site for that reason. I really wanted to try their Pizza Margarita. Holy smokes! It was, hands down, one of the best pizzas I have had in a long time. This coffee shop has such industrial red brick charm. I wouldn't have expected anything so cool in the back of the alley parking lot, which charges parking btw. There was a lot of open space and tables on a Saturday morning. We thoroughly enjoyed the drinks we chose and our favorite thing was actually the orange muffin with a glaze on top. I learned all the pastries are made in house and is the main location servicing all which is wonderful. I would note customer service could be improved as it felt unfriendly and dismissive. Because of that I would never come to this location again. I'm surprised I wasn't able to add lavender syrup to my latte since it's part of the seasonal drinks. Such an easy profit margin charging a $1 for 3 pumps of syrup. I decided on vanilla for my drink. Swung by Old Soul hoping to find a few options of freshly roasted whole bean greatness and struck gold! They had a ton of whole bean roasts available, including a decaf and a half-caff! I snagged one of each and they are taaaaaasty! Many decaf coffees end up tasting dry and burnt but these are delightfully--nutty, Graham cracker, and fruited notes. Well done!
