A friend and I had seen this coffee bar pop up on our Instagram reels and decided to check it out on March 18th around 10:45 a.m. The space was definitely fun and whimsical to be in. Looking at some of the pictures I posted there's a lot of art installations, interactive spaceship control board, and a multitude of things to capture your eye around the bar. The owner greeted us when we walked in and asked if it was our first time in his coffee bar. We told him yes and he gave us the rundown of the menu and what were some of the more popular items that people chose. We ended up getting the galactic sauce latte, El scorcho, two of the mini breakfast sandwiches, and the pulled pork sandwich. The coffee's came out first and you can see a video that I included with this review of the owner shaking them by hand for us which was super cool. Both coffees had amazing flavor and each time you took a sip you could taste a different flavor profile within them. We really enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches because the roasted garlic aioli combined with the pickled red onions just really brought the entire sandwich together. Each bite was delicious and had the perfect amount of sweet savory spicy and a little fatty. The pulled pork sandwich also had amazing flavor it had a good amount of the pork itself within the sandwich. The one thing to call out and this is more for informational purposes because it has the fermented Koji hot sauce the pickled red onions the garlic slaw and mustard it is a lot of acidic flavor on the pulled pork. Now I do like a vinegar / acidic taste to my pulled pork and I didn't enhance my sandwich by asking for a little bit of a sweetener like a jam to help mellow out the acidity that was on the sandwich. Again it is extremely delicious it's just for information if you're not a big fan of like vinegar or like acid-based sauces just be mindful of that. Also in general the space is very inviting there were at least four additional people that came in after us and then a group of two and each of them was doing some type of work at a table. And it was really nice and amazing to see that the owner greeted everyone knew a few of them by name and it was definitely clear to see that he had created a place where people felt comfortable. So highly recommend you check this place out and I will definitely be going back to try the other items on the menu. read more

Just keep note they stop serving all food on there menu after 2 pm when I walked in there was a guy with blonde curly hair he was a bit rude and wasn't really helpful he seemed to be already very occupied nonetheless get here before 2 pm to try anything basically. Response to the owner under this comment: I came in at 2:10 not 2:15 when I came in you seemed stand off ish / not warm not inviting, you were already assisting someone I believe once I was told the kitchen was closed no worries I continued to look at the menu really trying to see if I wanted a drink perhaps I didnt you were already pre occupied so I just walked out you responding to my comment within 11 minutes of me posting is further validating my experience. read more

My fiancee and I were in the downtown area and were always curious about this place , so we finally went. They had a super cute dog who greeted us lol. I ordered a decaf americano described as having notes of m and ms and my boyfriend got an iced latte. I will say that the drinks are very very expensive. My plain americano was 6 dollars and my fiances latte was 12 dollars. The drinks was also quite small (hand for reference). People say they have the best quality bean wise and I can see why. My fiances drink was really smooth. They only use a2 milk which is fine for me since it doesnt hurt my tummy. My decaf americano was also really good! A bit astringent to my bf but I really liked it, it's hard to find a good decaf. Id probably come back once and a while but only for their americanos. Vibes are chill and nice too read more

I'll be honest up front and say that my review is based entirely on one espresso and an extended conversation with the owner, Bob, on some really geeky coffee topics. The place is a coffee bar like no other. As some of my fellow Yelpers have mentioned, Bob believes in paying his staff a living wage, and while the prices reflect this, I'm more than willing to pay a little more to support that effort. The theme of the decor is "spaced out", to say the least. It's dark yet colorful, almost like you're on a spaceship (or maybe even in space, if you drink enough espresso). Bob doesn't do alt milks, and will speak about it passionately if asked. They serve A2 milk (tl;dr: easier to digest) from a nearby farm, great in those milk drinks, but today, I was just drinking straight espresso. The shop carries beans from a variety of roasters worldwide, and if you strike up a conversation with Bob, he might even be willing to whip something up from his "vault" of frozen beans, including some very funky/experimental beans. I ended up choosing from the menu, Brandywine's "Apple Pie", a blend of cofermented beans from Costa Rica and Colombia that results in a cup that tastes just like drinking a warm, spicy apple pie slice. Bags are available for sale from other roasters, and they have an impressive menu of food items which I'll have to sample on another visit. This place is totally worth a visit, for both the decor and the coffee, and if you see Bob, tell him the guy that chatted with him about Diego Bermudez's Golden Hour said hello. read more

On this Saturday Burnside had a puppy on staff. He was very friendly and was a cute part of the decor. This place seems to be decorated in a retro psi five space theme. There was a t v that was also playing retro shows, including some cartoons that I haven't seen in decades. They also have a live d j on hand. This is a pretty good place to have a cup of coffee and enjoy. A saturday morning. The music made it hard to have a conversation because of the volume.But we may do. They have a pretty good range of coffee in different flavors and using different beans. Do you also serve a small selection of breakfast?Foods. The only thing I would think would be an opportunity here is the beef.Bacon tasted a little on the strange side.... I wanted to get coffee from someplace other than Starbucks, so I hopped on Yelp to see what was around me. This place got some good reviews and had unique offerings, so I walked over. I couldn't decided between matcha or coffee, but ultimately chose the lychee coffee because this place is known for its coffee, I felt I needed to give these unique beans a try. I chose lychee+cappuccino. It was initially too bitter for me, so he kindly added some syrup (I think vanilla?) to add some sweetness. I'm used to sweet drinks, so this was still a bit bitter for me. But, I wanted to try and enjoy the flavor notes so refrained from adding anything else. I don't have a very sophisticated palate, so I don't think I taste the pear, star fruit, apricot, or caramel. It's just tastes light, bitter and fruity to me. I don't think these fancy coffees are for me, but I would love the come back and try the matcha. Service was great. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Prices are a bit steep. I paid ~$10 for basically a kids cup sized coffee and only 3/4 of the tiny cup was filled. However, I understand why they're charging so much. I'm glad they have something unique to offer and are paying a decent wage. Could I afford to come here often though? No. But I'm happy to support when I can. At first, it seems like it's a tad on the higher end for a latte. The cost was about $9-10 for the one I ordered. However, the price does include tip (so it's pretty much on par with a lot of coffee places in the area). Speaking of which, service was helpful, which is fortunate because I would feel a bit enraged if I was forced to tip for terrible service. They were welcoming, the menu was explained, and they didn't have a problem answering my question. They have some specialty drinks, or you may pick a bean off the menu and select how you want it served (americano, latte, cappuccino, etc). They serve the drinks chilled. They have a note that says it's like a bar for coffee, which is accurate since my drink shaken like a mixed drink would be at a bar). I had the "Vanilla Marshmallow Cupcake" served as a latte. Based just off the name, it sounds like it would be sweet, but it really wasn't. (I picked it because it was noted by the employees it would be more floral and a popular pick.) Under the bean selection of the menu, it notes the flavor profile you can expect, but my taste buds aren't refined enough to make those kinds of distinctions typically. I can't speak for all their drinks, but it's nice that at Burnside there's the ability to choose coffee-forward drinks rather than syrupy-sweet drinks you can find at most places. Wow! I was so amazed by this coffee bar! A group of us were looking for a breakfast spot on the way to a CARB hearing and stumbled upon burnside coffee. They serve coffee and breakfast sandwiches, but what really amazed me was the care and attention they take in creating your meal. Everything felt super intentional and the quality was superb! Everything was made fresh to order and was made with purpose. They even took special care to adapt to dietary needs. Not to mention it was absolutely delicious! This review is for my recent visit but I plan on going back again sometime to try other things from the menu because it truly all looked good! It was my first time trying this coffee shop after hearing about it from coworkers. It was a short walk from my office building so I went in during my lunch break. The location is in a good spot on K st where all the action is so can't miss it. It's also right next to a Taco Bell Cantina and Coin Op Arcade. When I walked in, I was immediately impressed with the interior and aesthetic. Very space-like, I loved it! I got to the counter to order and initially wanted a Matcha Chai that I saw on their menu when looking it up on Yelp beforehand but when I went in, they sadly discontinued their matcha for the time being. Hopefully they bring it back to their menu again soon! I ended up ordering my usual second choice drink which was an Iced Vanilla Chai. I also ordered the Brie Green Apples Grilled Cheese sandwich for my lunch and took it to go. I got back to my office and finally sat down to eat my sandwich. Sadly, when I took my first bite of my sandwich, it tasted too burnt for my liking. The burnt taste overpowered the rest of the sandwich and even the green apples. Then when I took my first sip of my Iced Vanilla Chai, it wasn't as sweet even with the vanilla added to it. I probably should've asked to make it sweeter since I know they customize drinks to your liking. I did still enjoy the sandwich and drink especially for trying something new. I think the next time I go back to try more of their menu, I will probably order the Breakfast Sando since that is what my coworker usually gets here and loves it! read more

Really delicious coffee and breakfast food! I will say the coffee really steals the show here. The food is pretty good but a bit pricy for a breakfast sandwich even though it is delicious. Service was a very mellow pace as they have a very chill vibe here which I enjoyed. They know their stuff regarding to coffee but also keep in mind they are very particular about their offerings! So they didn't offer oat milk and totally fine but I also felt kind of like they were shaming me when I asked if they offered oat milk lol they said it's so bad for you that they refuse to carry it in their establishment. This place is unmatched with its vibes food and the amazing quality if their simplistic espresso beverages. They serve their coffees chilled without ice and the flavor is there! I had the galactic which is butter, milk, and brown sugar with espresso. Out of this world ! Galactic is correct. The prices include tip which is handy and seems like a lot but really coffee is 7-8 and we tip already which makes the 9$ latte reasonable. The sando i got was pricey when adding the extras and something I'll indulge in on occasion. My over-all review is 5:5 because i have been wasting so much coffee lately due to inconsistency and even though its small, it was the perfect size . Great spot for coffee. I drive about a half hour every couple months to come here for coffee and it's such a treat. Yeah it's pricier than Starbucks, but it doesn't taste like dog water. In fact, it's very tasty, unique coffee and their food items are also pretty unique and tasty. It's incredible to find a coffee spot where the owners are making your drink, taking your order, and have created such a unique coffee experience. Every time I come in, I always find it difficult to pick what I want from their pretty intricate and constantly changing menu. One of the owners (not sure his name) is always there to explain everything in detail, and make recommendations. Burnside has officially moved to their own location off of 9th and K! It's a very spacious spot, dark and moody lounge feel just like their logo and they definitely executed their brand and vibe! Parking can be tricky in this area but we got metered parking just a block away. It has been exciting to see them continue to grow from the coffee cart I found them at just a couple years ago. They have brought the same high quality and coffee focused drinks to their location here and I appreciate their attention to detail in each piece of each drink. My husband is really into coffee so the owner was able to find a bean that suited his preferences, which he ended up really enjoying in latte form! I had the Midnight Munchies latte for myself and I loved the caramel cold foam. It isn't too sweet and the drink itself is just so creamy and light. Yes it can be pricey especially if you start adding on things like syrup and cold foams BUT you will note on the menu these prices already include tax and tip. Also, they already use A2 milk which is lactose free, so no milk alternative upcharges necessary! it really is a quality product here and I wish them lots of success!! read more

$39 for avocado toast with 1 egg, a breakfast sandwich with tri tip, and galactic sauce latte. Insane. Besides the price the latte and food were mid. Galactic Sauce Latte 6.5/10: small cup for $9, nothing special, can barely taste the butter or caramel (update: I meant to say brown sugar) Avocado toast 4/10: bread was too crunchy, pickled onions smelled weird, asked for scrambled egg but it was like a small omelette, and avocado was smooth like cream. They just really missed the texture and taste combination. Breakfast sandwich with tri tip 6/10: first bite was decent but as I ate it more, there was a weird taste and as I got closer to the center, the tri tip was super cold but the outside was warm. Just didn't make sense. Flavor was okay but it was mostly dry. You can barely taste that aioli. Also probably not best to make eggs sunny side up unless you're trying to make a breakfast sandwich difficult to eat and messy on purpose. Overall the staff is very nice. They seem very passionate about coffee which is cool. But I think their prices are insane for such mid flavors. I think they really need to focus on the taste aspect. Not sure what the purpose of all those different coffee beans are if the flavor is missing. I would try it again just to see if it's better next time. Also the place looks really cool. K street is kinda dusty now but great location since it's near DOCO. I hope they have lots of success. Just need to fix that taste issue and definitely lower the prices. read more

I'd recommend this place to seasoned coffee lovers because the coffee beans are what they're known for. You can even choose the type of bean you'd like to grind for your drink on the coffee bean menu at the front which I thought was cool. I'm more of a sweet drinker so I needed more sugar in mine to satisfy my craving so I wouldn't recommend for my sweet coffee lovers. However, if you're a strong coffee lover and prefer pure coffee with some great ambiance & easy conversations I'd recommend this place. They're relax and chill so don't hesitate to ask questions. My husband and I visited for the first time and it was a little intimidating, not being familiar with the menu. We were greeted by who I think may have been the owner or manager. He was friendly and took the time to explain the menu and their process for ordering. Luckily, we got there when it was slow so there was no line, and we were able to take our time to read the menu and decide on what to order. All their coffee is served chilled unless you request it hot. I've never had chilled coffee (different from ice) and it's delicious! I usually have my coffee with just a little creamer, I don't like sugary drinks but I was intruiged by their drink special menu so I ordered the el-scorcho and the husband had the galatic sauce latte. Their drinks are not too sweet, which is right up my alley. I had ordered a decaf and after I had taken a couple sips of my drink, the barista came up to me and apologized for not making my drink decaf. She was very apologetic and made me a new drink. I appreciated that she caught the error and made sure to let me know. She let us keep the original drink, which my husband drank. For food we tried the Turkish eggs and breakfast sando. The Turkish eggs were a little cold but overall good. Husband enjoyed the breakfast sando. This place is a bit on the pricier side otherwise I would visit more often. It's also easy to miss this place, not a lot of signage except for an A-frame sign on the sidewalk. read more

If you're looking for fast food service and a caramel macchiato... this is not the place for you. But... if you're looking for the most unique coffee experience, you're gunna wanna come here. And take my word, get your drink shaken and chilled! I hate iced coffee. Watery... too sweet... honestly just terrible... this is not that! This is like going to a high end cocktail bar, but for the coffee connoisseur! Be patient, it takes around 10-15minutes for drinks but it's so worth it! From the first to the last sip it's the most indulgent cup you'll ever have! Now another disclaimer... the owners really care about their products. They do not have junk here. Everything organic, grass fed, or locally sourced. For instance they use A2 milk that's easier to digest. Or a coconut cashew milk as their alternative because it compliments the coffee well and foams/drinks beautifully. All of their sauces and syrups are made in house! Some of my favorites are the El Scorcho, the Cornbread Latte, the whistle pig latte, etc! Their beans are sourced from all over and are some of the most fun and well roasted you can find! Everything is measured perfectly! Again, like a high end craft cocktail bar. But for coffee! Lastly they have some smaller food items as well, but are introducing a breakfast sandwich tomorrow which I can't wait to try! The vibe is marvelous, super local artist based, eclectic, relaxing, and inviting. A great place to come and hang out and draw, read, or chat with friends! First of all, make sure you have all day to waste as your food and drinks will take a long time to come out. I spent over 60 bucks on two drinks and two sandwiches. In these times that is utterly ludicrous. I'm not cheap and I'm happy to spend money on food as long as the food is good. It's not. It's mediocre at best. I really should have known when I walked in and saw the "decor". Feels like a 17 year old wannabe influencer was in charge. From the Minecraft tree to the Supreme merch I should have known better than to order. I got the breakfast sandwich and it was pretty meh. Probably would have been even more meh had I not gotten the burn sauce which in reality just overpowered every other flavor in the sandwich. Camellia still has the absolute best breakfast sandwich in town. Now onto the coffee... I legit cannot believe I spent 16 bucks on why I can absolutely say was the most mediocre cappuccino I've ever had had. From the initial taste all I could get was burnt. I work in coffee; I grow it, I roast it, I curate and craft drinks all day... this wasn't good. Thank goodness for the tiny chocolate truffle that came with it and did all the heavy lifting. Don't let yourself get starry eyed over the "decor" and the beautiful dog walking around. No cappuccino is worth $16. And yeah, I know it's all allegedly good quality ingredients but in my opinion it still absolutely does not justify the price. For really good quality and a lot more just go to Camellia. The size of the cup it came out was less than a regular small cup of coffee youd get anywhere else. The restaurant boast organic, seed oil free, processed food free, all that jargon about being clean, but it doesn't give any excuse to make just bad coffee. $14 for a less than small cup of coffee...
