This is by far my favorite coffee shop in the Sacramento area. I love their lattes, and I love their tease even more they have really incredible pastries. I had a s'mores cookie the other day that was to die for and I love their coffee and sandwich options that they provide. I was looking for a nearby coffee shop and saw this was a block away from an appointment. I viewed their Instagram page and noticed a lovely new spring menu. The carrot cake latte caught my eye. I placed my order with a friendly barista. She made sure to ask what size drink size (16 oz or 20 oz options for an iced drink) and if regular milk was okay. There were plenty of alternative milk options, but I believe there is an extra fee for adjusting so make sure to ask if that matters. I noticed a nice combo option on one of their signs offering a drink and bagel sandwich for $13, before 2 pm. Specific options only, but I will for sure try that next time. There were seating options inside and outside. It seemed like a decent spot to get some work accomplished in a relatively quiet environment. My drink was prepared quickly and had a good ratio of coffee to cheese foam. The cutest little carrot topping was added too. I actually wished there was a little more ice added to my drink. I went home and added it myself and the iced latte was my ideal temperature. read more

I only have one bad thing to say about this establishment and it's that it's not closer to where I live. I wish there was a Roots Coffee closer to me because one thing about this damn place- it will bless u the hell up. My friend and I got the brown sugar cinnamon oat milk latte and caramel macchiato alongside my avocado breakfast sandwich and her Cali Caprese and all I have to say is- wow. I was shocked that their pricing was so reasonable because a lot of coffee shops I know, especially in sac, are so expensive. The sandwiches were only $7.50 each and the coffees were around $7 as well for a 16oz. The people there were super nice and chill and the ambiance of the place was amazing. Stopped here for a quick breakfast and wasn't disappointed. I got an overnight oats cup and it was super yummy! I'm not sure what all was in it, but it was topped with nuts, dates and maybe some dried fruit and made with almond milk. I am a big fan of Roots coffee, literally one of my most favorite coffee shops in the Sacramento area. I've been a few times and the service is always so great and friendly! My favorite drink to get from there is the honey cream latte but I definitely want to try their seasonal menu in the fall/winter. I wish I had their recipe for the honey cream latte because I would make it at home everyday if I could because it's that good! I've also had their veggie bagel sandwich but replaced the bagel with the croissant. YUM! I love the interior and decor, it's so warm and welcoming. The only thing I'm not a fan of is that there's no nearby parking except for the garage parking. 10/10 highly recommend though! read more

Roots' house drip was so good! It had a vibrant, kind of buttery smooth flavor. I've recently moved from coffee with a bunch of stuff to just sugar (for dietary reasons) and I'm able to compare the house coffees much clearer now. This is great coffee! Because of weird, annoying dietary issues, I have to be that person everywhere I go who has a million questions and needs items removed but they were so kind in my requests. It was no problem at all! They have a yummy avocado breakfast sandwich on a buttery, flaky croissant. It is clean and I loved the plant vibe. All the greenery is so chill and inviting. They have comfy chairs, an issue at a lot of eateries and cafes. My only knock is that there's no much parking minus of course the DOCO, but that's kind of annoying to go to a cute little cafe. Stopped by roots coffee in sunny Sacramento. Parking was in the doco parking lot which was validated since we saw a movie but the parking would've been $18 for 3 hours. Service was extremely easy and quick. We were able to get our iced matcha lattes in under 5 mins after ordering. Very surprised to see that so kudos to the staff. The inside area has a few tables along with outdoor seating as well. It's calm, relaxing and not too noisy inside. 2 iced matcha lattes ran us about $16. I read that this cafe was rated one of the best in Sac so of course it was on my list to try! Luckily this spot is walkable from my office building so my coworkers and I were able to come by for a morning coffee run. The cafe space is small but still has decent amount of seating. The interior decor is very nature and earth-y with all of the greens and plants. It made the space feel cozy to be able to work remotely! The menu had a good variety of options including a seasonal menu. Both my coworker and I ordered the Matcha Summer Green except I got the Iced version and she got the Hot version. Our drinks came out fairly quickly from the moment we ordered. When sipping my drink, you can definitely taste the matcha but I tasted more of the white chocolate and lavender flavors that the Matcha Summer Green had. It wasn't too overpowering but it made the drink more elevated in my opinion. I think just having the lavender flavor and without the white chocolate would give a better balance but I still enjoyed the drink! read more

Yo! Real coffee in the 916? Yup yup. You heard that right. Extensive menu options and most are coffee forward. If your jam is a half gallon of 2% with a shot of espresso. Evil mermaids are everywhere and this place isn't even close to that. Macchiato is a proper macchiato. Espresso marked with milk foam. Super smooth, strong coffee drink that I absolutely love!! Cortado is another coffee forward drink that will ale your boots squeaky. That espresso hits different with the right amount of milk. Barista was flying solo and she was busting her ass to get drinks ordered and made. All with a smile and some humor. My new favorite coffee shop during the work week for sure!!! read more

There are so many great options for coffee and I noticed a lunch special of a drink and a sandwich for $13! That's a great deal and I want to come back for that. I ordered the Eggnog Chai. It was not my favorite but that's my own dang fault. It was very sweet, but what could I expect for egg nog? I want to come back and try other drinks! Overall, I have enjoyed every latte that I have gotten from here. The espresso flavor is always strong and never watered down, which I like. I'd highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Drink: (4.5/5) Abundance Iced Latte ($6.70): The abundance iced latte is a honey, cinnamon, and bourbon caramel flavored espresso latte. The drink was very delicious. It reminded me of Dutch Bros Golden Eagle. It was just as sweet so if you do not like sweet drinks, I'd recommend you ask for it to be less sweet. The bourbon flavor was not very strong which I liked because I was worried it would be strong. Service & Ambiance: (4/5) The service here is great. The staff are friendly and quick at making the drinks. I came in with a large party and our drinks were made within 15 minutes. The store itself is quite small, with approximately 3 to 5 tables all crammed in one area, so if you're hoping to study here, you won't get much private or personal space. The bagel sandwich came with salmon, spinach, cream cheese, lemon zest, onion and pesto and truly had such delicious and fresh flavor. The coffee also was roasted well and enjoyable. My husband and I stopped by for a coffee and after browsing through the yelp pictures, we decided to go with a Blueberry cheesecake latte & a white chocolate strawberry latte. For some reason they didn't look like the pictures we saw here? It just looked like a regular iced latte without the fancy crumbles, foam and different colors. If you don't like matcha, try black matcha! Instead of green, they use milled and powdered black tea leaves. This spot is featuring it on their fall menu with a pumpkin cold foam. It's not a pumpkin spice drink, but more like a pumpkin pie milk tea (alrhough I wish the tea was a bit stronger). They also have a few yummy breakfast items too, and are conveniently located near Sac Amtrak. I decided to come here on my way to the Amtrak station before heading out, and I'm glad I did. It is situated right next to DOCO and is in a pretty convenient location with ample seating, natural lighting, and lively plants. This place seems to be one of the cheaper places where I'm able to get a bagel and a coffee combo for around ~$13 (which is way cheaper than some other surrounding coffee shops). The cashier was rather friendly and provided nice recommendations. The coffee came out pretty fast while the bagel sandwich took a little while longer. I thought the coffee had a taste that wasn't overly sweet. I also thought the bagel had a good ratio of salmon to cream cheese. I would recommend going back to this place for getting your coffee whenever you're in Downtown Sacramento. read more

What a cozy little coffee shop located right next to DOCO!! I had no clue that this was here but I'm so happy I stumbled upon it. The inside has such a warm ambient feel that made me feel right at home and the staff matched that energy right away. I ordered the Chocolate Chai Latte and my partner got the Honey Latte. I was a bit hesitant going with the Chocolate Chai as when I've gotten it at other places, it tasted like straight chocolate milk lol. Here, however, you can taste the richness of the chai balanced with a subtle flavor of cocoa. Caught me by surprise and has become my new favorite drink at the moment. To eat, we got the salmon bagel--I thought it was quite tasty. Nice balance of freshness paired with the saltiness of the salmon. I got it on a parmesan bagel. Nice and light; didn't feel too heavy after I finished it. Oh! Did I mention that they have a combo right now? It's a 1+1 combo which includes a drink and your choice of a bagel. Came out to a total of $13 which I feel is pretty unbeatable especially in the downtown area. Will I be back? Yes. While in town for Convention @ Golden 1 center this is right next to it so very convenient to walk over and get coffee. With so many people at this convention there was quite a line But the girls running it were on top of it and kept it moving pretty good. I came a couple days in a row , 2nd time I got in line before they opened @8. The coffee I got was delish, Latte Caramel macchiato, six shots extra sweet was perfect ! I also got a cheese danish too and it was delicious. Great ambiance with nice seating indoor and outdoors as well. Not a very big place but nice. If at or around Golden 1 i recommend stopping by. Didn't get any other pics I forgot . I will say where it's located. I'm not sure about parking because I walked here. There may be some street parking nearby or unless you're at the Golden 1 center in the nearby parking structure you would walk to this location. They also have online mobile orders too. My experience here was so bad that I actually signed up for a yelp account.. My wife has cancer and was getting treatment at the Kaiser across the street. Since her chemotherapy sessions are 5 hours long, she wanted to get a quick drink and something to eat. She decided to try out Roots Coffee. There was no line or anyone else waiting for their orders, but IMMEDIATELY upon entering the cafe, we were greeted with glares, eyerolls and a 'hurry-and-get-the-f***-out-of-here' attitude by the staff. Which I thought was odd, considering there was nothing imposing or offensive about a quiet, tired and sick woman who has to go through chemo but wants to grab a coffee and some food first..? Despite this, the two questions my wife had about the menu were met with such hostility that we were genuinely confused as to what we possibly could have done wrong in the whole 45 seconds we were in the building. After placing our order, it took 10 minutes to make her bagel sandwich, which was literally tossed across the counter for her to pick up - with the employee giving one more glare and f*** you scoff before we picked it up and left. I don't know what to say or think about this whole situation. Hopefully the management/owners see this and can address the problem. But most of all, I hope the staff, who gave so much attitude and grief, develop the same type of cancer and have to experience the same disrespect that they gave. read more

!!! PSA to fellow fans of carrot cake and coffee: you haaave to get the iced carrot cake latte! It's a monthly special (April.....but hoping it stays longer) and it's super delish. Didn't think a *cream cheese* cold foam would work on a coffee drink but it pairs very well with the house-made carrot syrup. Overall easily one of my favorite dessert-y coffee concoctions that I've had. I also tried the nitro cold brew here (normal menu offering). Pretty solid. I have been waiting for the right moment to take my time and give the highest praise to this amazing coffee shop. An absolute gem tucked away in downtown doco area. I work close in the area and come here regularly. It's hard to not admire the beautiful interior with all the propagated plants. Gives you a cozy feeling and suits the "roots" name. Coffee shops these days are focused on mainly just aesthetic, but this place not only has incredible atmosphere but a coffee specialty menu to match. My absolute fav is the honey cream latte. I get it iced and the coffee for the espresso itself always is the staple flavor in the drink. And the specialty drinks? AGAIN. JUST WOW. I had a "pumpkin pie latte" during Christmas that was to die for. And a "white mocha pistachio" with creamy pistachio flavoring paired with the mocha. And right now during Valentine's Day season I had a hot "chocolate covered strawberry" latte that when ordered iced comes with a strawberry cold foam. So unique and I'm always dying to see what the next season will bring for drinks. Not to mention the food is delicious with lox bagels and macarons in the pastry case. They use to serve these brownie chocolate chip cookies and I still think about them. PLEASE BRING THEM BACK. I recall telling a staff member once how much I love the cookies and her response was "they are made with love." AGAIN. PLEASE. BRING THEM BACK. Staff here is wonderful and always kind. One of the gentleman who works here always remembers me and has conversation with me knowing I work locally. Took a walk to this location while in the doco area and it's such a bummer that it's in such a weird spot. If you walk down DOCO and turn right once you past the area to your left you can find this location close to the freeway. We ordered two specialty coffees that are available while supplies last at their location : Vietnamese iced coffee and the pistachio matcha. My friend absolutely loved her matcha and it was so beautiful too. I liked my Vietnamese coffee and it was strong like most Vietnamese iced coffees should be!
