Super popular breakfast and coffee spot in downtown Sacramento. Arrived on a Sunday morning at 10 and it was completely packed. Every table is full and there is a line of 10-15 groups snaking around the restaurant. The vibes are immaculate though, a dusty pink theme throughout with consistent cartoonish drawings on their cups, coffee beans, and signage. So many people, dogs, and babies. I do think this is a millennial and up age group, not many younger folks. They do have quite a bit of staff working hard behind the counter. On a cold gloomy day, this place is extremely cozy with the large bright windows. There is also seating outside! The horchata cold brew really does taste like cereal milk in the best way. The coffee flavor is actually very mild, but that may be a symptom of oat milk flavor taking over. Frequently referred to as the best breakfast sandwich in Sacramento, this place had my standards sky-high. The breakfast sausage and egg was definitely unique - the textures were all fluffy and soft, the brioche bun and folded egg omelette. The cheese was light but flavorful and the sauce balanced everything out nicely. I would say this is a solid breakfast sandwich, more untraditional, and definitely a must try if you're interested. We also ordered a salmon and lox everything bagel sandwich that was also delicious! I would have loved a bit more smoked salmon for balance but the scallion dill cream cheese was super flavorful! Starting off the with location, parking can be hard to find. While the inside of the shop is spacious, it's difficult to get a seat during peak hours/days (excepted). The place is clean and aesthetically pleasing. Now for food and drinks. I really have enjoyed their matcha lattes. Not overly sweet or bitter. It's balanced. Stopped by around noon and was pleasantly surprised by the expansion! Perfect for this afternoon since it was pretty cold and drizzly. Also LOVE that they added the kiosk ordering option. It's right by the door and only for drinks so this should also help speed up the line. Ordered some americanos and decided to order the new shredded pork sandwich. I think the guy rang us up incorrectly because it said it was $10.25 on the sign but he rang it up as a normal sandwich with the pork as the meat so it was $11 instead. I noticed too late but make sure to check unfortunately. Americanos were excellent and pipping hot like always. I would stick to the original sandwich- although the salsa verde pork is delicious there's just a little too much going on. Why mess with a classic? I came for some breakfast today with a good friend of mine and we tried their breakfast sandwiches. I had mine with sausage and bacon while she had the bacon and avocado. These breakfast sandwiches were out of this world good! They came out piping hot and when we opened them up there was an amazing cheese pull with steam rising out. Oh it was magnificent! And the food tasted even better than it looked. The bread was very fresh with a delicate mid section. The crust was just right. The sandwiches were very easy to eat and satisfied us - especially their taste! I had heard of the horchata cold brew before coming and I really wanted to give that one a try. I have to say that it really lived up to my expectations - actually exceeded them! The coffee was perfect. It was smooth and creamy with just the right sweetness. My only wish was that the cup sizes were larger so that I could have more! This is a drink that I would recommend to anyone. In terms of atmosphere, the cafe has a beautiful brick wall on the inside with a comfortable vibe. It has a large enough space to fit a good sized amount of people wanting to hang out with their drinks. Service was fast and we didn't have to wait long for our order at all. Wow. This place exceeded all of my expectations! It's a cute brick building, with rustic vibes. The lighting inside is warm, not too dim, very decked out with decorations, they even have a Christmas tree too! Very spacious, plenty of seating, tables, and booths! My breakfast sandwich was piping hot, cheese oozing out of it and the buns toasty. It was very filling and so delicious!! The way they cook the omelet in the sandwich is amazing! The scallions and their cholula aioli sauce add the perfect kick that intrigues your tastebuds and pulls you in for another bite! I would come back for the sandwich alone, wow! They offer sandwiches with options of sausage, bacon, or veggie. This is a must-try!! I also tried their Iced Mocha upon the barista's recommendation. Currently, they offer two seasonal syrups the Cozy Spice and Peppermint syrup. I added peppermint to my mocha and it was good, their mocha sauce is so rich in flavor. I will say my drink was very sweet, I'd probably add an additional shot of espresso next time to get the flavor and balance the sweetness. Other than that, no complaints! Let me start off with the positives. The cafe itself is nice a spacious and the vibe was nice. Not too loud of music playing and majority of people were just working on their computers. The person who brought out my breakfast was super super sweet and friendly, didn't get her name but was short Asian with beautiful tattoos and was wearing a black beanie. Upon entering I wasn't greeted, just got stared at by the person at the register and one of the guys behind her. She was taking an order so understandable and the other two guys were doing a task of some sorts. When I got to the register the cashier seemed very uninterested and seemed like she didn't want to be there. I asked her about the limited time holiday flavor and her response is "it's good" and her tone seemed kind of annoyed. Overall the interaction made me feel like I was bothering her and not once did she smile or try to make me feel welcomed what's so ever. I believe her name was Dana for that's what the ticket on my cup said. The guy who brought out my drink just plopped it out on my table and walked away, no smile, no thank you, nothing. Coffee, not good. It tasted watery. As though the oat milk wasn't shaken maybe. The coffee didn't taste like it pulled properly. The sandwich had soooooo much pepper on the egg and the bun was so so dry. Very disappointed considering the entire order cost 18$ + tip. I didn't say anything or ask for a remake because of energy and vibe given off by the team. I ended up going to temple coffee instead to grab a different drink and skipped on the breakfast portion. I've been to camellia's before they had this new spot so I was honestly very excited to return because I remember how friendly the team was and how amazing the coffee/breakfast was. Great place to sit at if the weather is nice out! The inside is clean, cutely decorated, and has a modern aesthetic but not minimalist. When it's not busy it's very chill and would be a great place to do homework or work. This place does get very busy! The staff are nice, mostly when it's not busy understandably, I've been here a couple times and haven't had a bad interaction. Recently I came and got their breakfast sandwich with sausage and an iced matcha with oat milk and I added honey. The sandwich was super tasty, the eggs were cooked perfectly and was very filling. I loved the cheese and scallions they added to it. The matcha was unfortunately disappointing. I had gotten it once before and I liked it but this recent time it had a watered down flavor and was not sweet at all despite the barista telling me the matcha it already sweetened and asking if I was sure I wanted to add honey to it. Everything was so incredibly fresh and the chili verde was so tender. They really pay close attention to detail from the wonderful service when we got to the register, the cute coffee shop ambience and cozy vibe, all the way to the cute little cups they use for their cold and hot beverages! Took a visit to try a new coffee place here at Camellia Coffee Roasters after my doctor's appointment and this place caught me by surprise. Upon arrival, the street was very lively on a Thursday afternoon. There's so much seating inside, for a place that looked a little busy I didn't have to worry about where I was gonna sit. The aesthetic here is really nice. To me it screams, "all are welcome," because they even have doggy bowls if you bring a pup along which you don't really see a lot of coffee shops do. I ordered a cold brew and was feeling a little hungry since I skipped breakfast before my appointment and the kind worker recommended I get the Bacon Sandwich which was very delicious and came out quick. The cold brew was very smooth and tasted sort of tart&fruity to me. Aesthetic, food, & service was a 10/10 for me and I'd definitely be a returning customer. The breakfast sandwich at Camellia Coffee Roasters... Yeahhhh... that's all you really need to know. I stopped by in the morning to get some work done, and it's busy for a reason... Their breakfast sandwiches are incredible. Each one is made with a two-egg omelette layered with cheese, scallions, and cholula aioli, all on a soft brioche bun. You can add bacon or sausage, or go with a veggie version. I opted for the sausage and have zero regrets. You can definitely tell that each order is made fresh because the moment you bite into it, you get that gooey cheese pull from the omelette. I personally love adding a dash of hot sauce for that extra kick, and the ones they provide are just fine. For coffee, I kept it classic with an iced vanilla latte. Iced drinks come in 16oz only, which ended up being the perfect size. The coffee wasn't mind-blowing, but still solid. The space itself is housed in a charming brick building with a clean, open interior and plenty of seating (though it fills up fast). At peak hours, it can feel a little cramped/tight since some tables and chairs are packed in close together each other. I ended up sitting outside at one of the four picnic tables. This was a great call because there was plenty of room, great weather, and a view of the murals lining R Street. The only downside to this place if you're planning to work or study on your laptop is that there aren't many outlets if any at all, so make sure to come with your devices fully charged if you plan to stay a while! All in all, Camellia is 100% worth the hype, ESPECIALLY for that breakfast sandwich. read more

Camellia may very well be my favorite coffee shop in Sacramento now. We tried this for the first time last weekend, then came back yesterday. The coffee here is tremendous, and the breakfast sandwiches are INCREDIBLE. My wife had the sausage breakfast sandwich and I had the bacon one. Both were delicious, and they even catered to my wife's gluten intolerance and were able to plate it without the bun. The vibe and ambience here is excellent too. It's placed in a large old school warehouse with high ceilings and plenty of places to sit and retreat into your work, studies, or conversations. While Sacramento is full of amazing coffee shops, this one has become my favorite. Delicious coffee, delicious food, excellent service. I especially like the brioche bread and aoili they put on the sammie. If you like breakfast sandwiches, you should try theirs! Total came out to about $20. Pretty standard midtown pricing and I think the food and drink were worth it! If you're visiting on a weekend morning, expect service to be slow. I waited in line for maybe 10-15 mins, got my drink within a few mins of ordering, but my food maybe took another 20 mins to come out. Today was my first time at Camellia, and I had the worst matcha latte I've ever purchased, which was upsetting as an avid matcha drinker. I usually make my own matchas at home or prefer matcha-specialty stores like Matcha Maiko, but I always try to give matchas at local cafes a chance (and had luck at places like La Costa, Chloe, Offbeat, Scorpio, to name a few other local cafes). But Camellia's hot matcha latte was undrinkable. It tasted straight up like fish. Not just a slight umami note but as if I couldn't taste any matcha at all -- just milk foam and a taste that was salmon-y. For a few more sips, I tried to convince myself into thinking this was normal, but then, I also had my partner taste it. He said it kind of tasted like seaweed. I feel lowkey bad writing this, but I see Yelp as a space for constructive criticism. I've seen other people say good things about the matcha here (alongside another reviewer that also mentioned seaweed-tasting matcha), so it might just be a consistency issue. I let a barista know about my drink issue and the people at Camellia were extremely nice about it, hence the high review. They offered an alternative drink, so I chose a vanilla latte instead. It was exactly what a vanilla latte should taste like: nice balance of coffee with a creamy, not too sweet, vanilla flavor. My partner also got the mocha which was absolutely delicious. A semi-sweet rich dark chocolate blended perfectly with coffee. Their coffee-based lattes are exceptional. I also enjoyed getting work done here as well. It's very spacious with a lot of natural light. The space has plenty of seating (not too crowded on a Tuesday morning/early afternoon), but not any outlets that I could find near me -- I recommend charging up beforehand if you need your laptop. The space is pretty big for a coffee shop with both indoor and outdoor seating; though, it does get pretty busy. Both cup sizes come with 2 shots of espresso but you can add extra shots of course. - mocha: this place has quite possibly my favorite mocha. It's not too sweet like most are. And it has the same great foam as the latte. - sausage breakfast sandwich: this is the sandwich to get. The bread is wonderfully soft. The eggs are nice and fluffy. The aioli has a nice tang to it. They serve it with a packet of cholula on the side if you want to add some heat. I added some avocado to mine which was a nice extra but not really necessary for a good sando. - bacon breakfast sandwich: this is also tasty but not quite as good as the sausage. The bacon is that thinner cut bacon. Kinda like microwave bacon. - chile verde breakfast sandwich: this wasn't on the regular menu; rather, there was a sign by the register for it. It was good. There wasn't actually much chile verde sauce on it, so it ate more like just pulled pork. But I guess a lot of sauce would've made for a soggy and messy sandwich. - chocolate babka: I'm a sucker for chocolate babka. And while this one looked pretty great with its glistening egg wash finish, it was unfortunately rather dry and didn't have a great deal of chocolateyness to it. Hopefully, the other stuff in the pastry case is better. The people who work here are nice and friendly. You usually pick up your coffee at the counter when it's ready yourself, but when one of the workers saw I had to carry more drinks than I had hands, he was quick to jump in and help walk my last drink to my table. And the cashiers were nice and cheerful as well. So, go here for some great coffee and great breakfast sandwiches. Maybe next time I'll try the bagel with smoked salmon. read more

I went with a classic Matcha latte and a sausage sandwich. Both turned out to be pretty good. I love the sausage sandwich. The bread was flaky, buttery, and absolutely amazing. The Matcha was just a little bit too sweet. I'm not sure if it's traditional Matcha or if they use a different selection. Warning: Don't go on a Sunday at 11 am, haha! Super crowded with a long line and tons of people getting brunch. Fortunately, we only needed drinks to go, and were happy that they offer a kiosk where you can order to go drinks only (no food or pastries). We got two iced chais, half sweetness, with almond milk and cinnamon. The sweetness level was perfect, but they cinnamon was super spicy- we were coughing a bit, but they were still super delicious. I'd like to return when it's less busy and get food and enjoy the murals. It's a nice ambiance! read more
