Scorpio was opened back in August 2020, with a clean and modern indoor space and some outdoor seating as well. We formed in line outside first and then moved inside to order at the register. Lavender Lemon Latte $7 I got the specialty drink, the lavender lemon latte. Made with Meyer lemon, Provence lavender, and espresso. Lemon spice was noticeable but the hint of lavender was too light. Oolong Tea $6 Husband ordered the milk oolong tea from Taiwan. The color of the tea was bright yellow, and the tea was great with a hint of honey. Lox Toast $17 We got the toast with cured salmon, herb cream cheese, mustard seeds, pickled red onion, and radish. The toast was crispy on the outside which was a little difficult to cut. Line out the door on a Friday morning but soon we understood that it was not just hype- The coffee came out quickly and was delicious. We both got flavored iced lattes. But the real star was the food - their toasts are BEAUTIFUL and as soon as they come out, you know they're something special. We tried the avocado toast, the lox toast and the strawberry miso. There was a line, so we knew the coffee would be good and the crew were pumping out delicious looking coffees. This place hands down is the definition of what a cafe should be. It's a powerhouse of deliciousness. I usually get the seasonal toast and it's phenomenal. The drinks are always changing but delicious. This last time they had a shrub on the menu and it was tasty. They use DAK as well but not for all of their coffee drinks ( think). Very busy and bustling upon entering the store. Super crowded with people enjoying their food, in line, and waiting for their drinks. We waited in line for about 10-12 minutes and 5-7 minutes for our drinks. Speedy ordering process, workers work very efficiently! As they took our orders they passed cups to the baristas to make them. In turn, they weren't as friendly or chatty. The Matcha latte is very traditional tasting, not too sweet. Nothing too special either, pricey for the size in my opinion. The Orange Mocha is yummy!! The flavor of the clementine is highly refreshing, not too citrusy nor overpowering. There's a nice balance between the chocolatey mocha and orange flavor. I would definitely get this again! The ice to drink ratio was really good too. Just enough to keep the drink cold and strong espresso shots. The decor is very modern, nice greenery, beautiful soft lighting, and minimalist decor. I love how clean the entire store was, inviting. Super cute zen-themed cafe on S and 16th that's tailored for a solo/duo experience. The interior appears spotless and has a modernized dojo look to it. I dropped by on a Thursday afternoon to successfully finish some online to-dos with minimal distractions. The Rosella Tea comes filled up in a large corked bottle for only $5, something rather unheard of for a Midtown coffee shop. It's a hibiscus tea with a mildly sweet yet surprising aftertaste. Excellent choice of a warm non-caffeinated beverage for a breezy day. I wish they had bigger tables so that I could stop by with a couple friends next time. While I appreciate the simplicity of the seated counters and creativity of the wall-mounted round tables, the seating arrangements can only comfortably accommodate a group of two. This spot is a cute Japanese-inspired cafe! My first time here, I immediately left because there was no seating at all; so this was my second time around. I ordered the hot pumpkin spiced latte and the ochazuke. The ochazuke was SO GOOD and warm-- great for the gloomy weather we've been having in Sacramento recently. It's made up of koshihikari rice, flaked salmon, wakame, and hot tea dashi. The pumpkin spiced latte had beautiful artwork and was really good as well. I'd say their PSL is much more spice forward, and I'm glad I got to try it before PSL season is over. There's indoor and outdoor seating, but they fill up pretty fast. To snag a seat, I either recommend coming early, or at a slow period (unless you just get lucky). I love the Japanese art wall they have on the side of their building! Great photo op. This place is a gem of a coffee (and more) shop in Midtown. It's a small space, but packs a big punch in terms of coffee and other beverages, as well as some really nice food options. They also serve matcha, baristas are frequently seen preparing it with a bamboo whisk. On the coffee side of things, where I'm focusing, they have a high end Weber Workshops EG-1 grinder for the special beans, as well as a small army of NextLevel Pulsar drippers (a home favorite of mine) for pourover, but it was the espresso that I was here for on my visit. They feature coffees from some of the world's premier roasters, and on mu visit, it was one from DAK in Amsterdam, and Regalia in NYC. I sampled a straight shot of both, with a sparkling water palate cleanser. The DAK offering was called "The Alchemist" and featured notes of tropical fruits and cocoa in a natural process bean. Not too funky, it was a very nice cup, but it was the El Jardin Regalia that stole the show for me, with a very pleasant lingering winey note that brought a big smile to my face. On a second visit in as many days, I picked up a Cafec Deep 27 pourover dripper and used it to make some great pourover at my family's home. The baristas are very friendly and love to chat about their coffees. Seating is fairly minimalist and the place is jumping most of the time, so be prepared to get cozy with the other guests. Overall, this is a great place to have specialty coffee, and a snack or light meal. It's (so far) my favorite Sacramento area coffee shop. read more

Visited at 5pm for a 5pm-7pm dinner pop-up, and took the opportunity to try some teas and wine while we waited the hour before chefs were ready to start taking orders at 6pm. Staff seemed friendly but frazzled, and seating for groups larger than 2 were slim (though if you brave the outdoors, it seemed like you could push tables together). I'm always a little disappointed by loose leaf teas that don't come in a tea pot, which feels like losing out on the fragrance and experience of the tea, and because we ordered two different ones, the person who brought them to us couldn't tell us which was which. They were above average teas, but for a cafe, service left a lot to be desired. For the meal itself, we ordered three of the same beef noodle soup with an appetizer. All soups came out at different times, and the appetizer cucumber salad actually came out last (when we were largely done with our entrees). Again, I totally understand this is primarily a coffee and wine bar, but service left a lot to be desired. Chef Harold's Taiwanese inspired beef noodle soup was lacking ... soup. But braised beef was tender. I did enjoy the staff suggestion for a sparkling red wine - delicious, and I would venture back to Scorpio for coffee and wine. But skip the teas and the pop-ups - especially if you're coming in a group, because the music was loud and it was pretty tough to converse. read more

5 shining stars for the food. 3 stars for the expensive prices & small portions. I think we spent between $30-$40 for 2 drinks & two breakfast items & I wasn't full. Or was I not supposed to be? Maybe it was designed to be snack portions but my assumptions was it's a breakfast spot. Still, that doesn't stop me from coming because their items are consistently good over my past 3 or 4 visits. What I think what sets this place apart from other coffee shops is that the drinks & food items have unique Japanese ingredients in them. They are all very aesthetically pleasing & the environment is atypical in that its very simple, natural & visually uncluttered. I usually get the muesli for $12 which is the creamiest raw oatmeal I've ever had & its topped with pretty, colorful edible flowers, seasonal fruit & tastes super rich even though it's healthy. They serve other food items like toast, my fave being mushroom toast (just 1 slice!) for $16 and way too expensive IMHO. It's topped with oyster & shimenji mushrooms, onsen egg, shallots aioli & togarashi and it's pure deliciousness. They also have the avocado toast (which I think is just average), lox, & strawberry miso toast. They contain unique ingredients like shokupan, umeboshi & citrus yuzu kosho & range from $12-$17. My favorite drink is a small, creamy, soothing cup of hojicha latte for $6.5. They also have mugicha mizudashi (that I wanna try), and a rosella that has hibiscus for $5. They also have a seasonal pumpkin latte, chai, matcha, mocha, cappuccino all ranging from $5-7. The most expensive drink being a bottled flash brew that contains Finco Milan & is a whopping $21! The vibe here is quiet & chill. Everytime I come there's patrons quietly busy tapping on their laptops on their x-small- small sized tables. There's an outdoor area to sit at which may be better suited for those who want to chat on their phones or converse with their cafe buddy. I would say this place wouldn't be the best to hangout with big groups because the seating areas are quite small. The tables seemed like they would be better for max groups of 3-4. Service was quick and friendly. After you order your drink, you wait on the side to pick it up. If you are getting food to eat at the cafe, they will bring it out to you. I ordered the matcha latte and it was okay. Since I got it with oatmilk, the matcha powder didn't mix as well with the milk so there were some small clumps. My favorite item was the mushroom toast. Probably my favorite coffee shop in Sacramento. My criteria in a good coffee shop is good vibes, good coffee and good food and Scorpio has it all. Their staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a rotating seasonal menu of coffee drinks and they are always so unique and yummy. Their espresso is good and I love trying their pour overs. The pour overs are a bit pricey but well worth it for the unique notes and flavor. The food options are good if you're looking for something a bit lighter. I love that they also are a wine bar! They have lots of walls of real and fake plants, exposed wood, and seating options. However, their air conditioner is either set to a higher temperature or broken, as it was super warm in there. I came on a hot summer day and the shop felt stuffier than outside did. The strawberry miso was served on pillowy soft shokupan (milk bread) with toasted walnuts and ricotta and felt like more of a slightly indulgent dessert than breakfast, which I didn't mind at all. But the star of the show for me was the mushroom toast, featuring 3 diff mushroom varieties, a perfectly slow-cooked onsen egg and a delicious shallot aioli sauce-- a beautiful blend of textures and flavors. Aside from classic coffee options, they also have a menu of signature drinks including matcha and hojicha lattes along with typically one unique seasonal option (spring was the delectable-sounding bouquet lavender/rose/chamomile latte, but we unfortunately missed out). To sum it up, this is a must-go-to coffee Cafe in Sacramento! Today was not my first time at Scorpio, I decided to swing by because I was driving around the city and wanted good matcha. I can always count on high-quality drinks and food when I come to Scorpio. I first discovered them in 2020 when I had my plant business and did pop-ups close by, I also had a number of customers who loved them also. I would also stop by when Pastry Cat came in for her pop-ups the Cafe. The Cafe is extremely clean and has a beautiful modern yet minimalist design inside with plenty of counter, bar, or inside/outside table seating. Everything from the kitchen/drink counter is made to order, but what stands out the most is their unique drink and food items with items you might not typically find at your average coffee shop. To me, this is what elevates Scorpio to a higher degree, and why I thoroughly enjoy my experience here. Ive personally tried the latter, hojicha latte, matcha, cappuccino and Chai latte. All are amazingly balanced and crafted, and never overly sweet like some shops. Ive also enjoyed various options of their sweet toast options (they change seasonally i believe) and their avocado toast, also delicious and highly recommended. Ive also ordered the Muesli for breakfast a couple years ago and it was extremely satisfying! As far as service, Ive never had an issue here. The staff is always helpful in answering my questions if im not familiar with something, and although everything is made to order, I feel the turnaround time is always quick, even when we have come during busier times. Came on a solo date after hearing great reviews and wanted to try a new (to me) spot. This coffee shop is very cute, brightly lit with natural lighting, and has a chill energy to it. The staff were nice and talked to me about their options, seating was a little limited inside but I was able to find an open seat. There is also seating outside that I'll probably use next time when the weather is nice. I tried the hot chai latte and mushroom toast. The mushroom toast was incredible! I wish the egg would've been cooked just slightly longer so the whites would've been more set.
