Stopped by Sunny Side for breakfast while I was in town for work. I came by pretty early on a weekday and definitely beat the rush. The staff was attentive and got me seated right away. There's a lot to choose from on the menu, and all the pictures people have shared on Yelp looked so good! I'm not a huge sweets person in the morning, so I usually lean towards something savory. I ended up going with the Sunrise Poutine and the Yuzu Benedict. The Sunrise Poutine was such a good twist on traditional poutine. I mean, tater tots topped with gravy and eggs? Ugh, sign me up!! It was delicious and definitely something I'd order again. I can say the same about the Yuzu Benedict. The yuzu sauce gave the salmon and eggs a really nice twist and added a bright flavor to what would otherwise be a more traditional Benedict. Really enjoyed this one! Not pictured, but I also had the lavender coffee, which I really enjoyed. It was a nice little addition to the meal. Overall, I had a great breakfast here and would definitely come back. There are still plenty of dishes I want to try, so I guess I'll have to make another stop next time I'm in town!
The food was delicious! We really loved the Unagi Tornado Omurice--it was the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and everything nice. We also tried the Crunchy Mascarpone, which was definitely something different. The outside was super crunchy from the fried coating and cereal, while the mascarpone added a nice creamy contrast. The service was great, too. The staff was friendly, and the lady checking in on the tables and keeping everyone's water refilled was a nice touch. There is a pretty long wait, so I recommend going early, but the vibes are definitely worth it!
A nice, bright spot with an innovative menu executed perfectly. This place is pretty popular with a decent wait time for a reason. The chicken & croffle were very flavorful and the lemon ricotta pancakes were light and soft. Definitely would come back.
Ooooh, I absolutely loveee Asian brunches! This restaurant is on the smaller side, but they do offer outdoor seating as well. They get very busy, so be prepared to wait but trust me, they're definitely worth it! Here's what I ordered: Crunchy Mascarpone French Toast (5/5) Wowww. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, but I genuinely think I could've devoured this entire thing. The French toast was so fluffy and light, and the corn flakes added the perfect crunch and texture. Mmm... absolutely wonderful. Unagi Tornado Omurice (5/5) Yummm, I'm drooling just thinking about this. This dish was so flavorful, and the unagi was cooked perfectly. I don't know what the cooks are doing back there, but please don't stop because this was amazing. The only thing I wish it had was an option to make it spicyy, but that's just me. I'm a spicy girl and I like a little kick with almost everything. Gyu Garlic Rice (5/5) I only wish they had an option to add more ribeye because my husband could've definitely used more than the 6 oz portion. Other than that, this dish was incredibly flavorful and delicious. Honestly, I'm still impressed because every single dish we ordered blew me away. It's rare that every item hits, but they really nailed it here. Definitely coming back!
Nice addition to downtown Sac. Right off the bat - the unagi tornado omurice is worth a visit. It has great flavor and the combination of eggs, rice, ginger and unagi sauce is excellent. We also had the BLT - traditional BLT served on ciabatta with mustard aioli and a lavender latte. The service was solid but the food comes out when each dish is ready as opposed to together if you're in a group. Took a little longer for that unagi. Another random thing to point out is their bathroom was very well kept and actually smelled good. Many restaurants don't take the time to care for the bathroom so it's good to see.
So, this review shows reviews the steak bowl, but it was absolutely delicious. Sunny side was just one of those places I kept walking past after the Farmer's Market, nbut never ventured into because of the line. Anyway, I love a good ribeye, but thrown some asian flavors on it over rice with a slightly runny egg - I'm in! The dish was pure umami and sweet. It was such a heartwarming breakfast. It's a great location. Could be a move before or after the farmer's market, but it gets pack so be prepared to wait. It's a pretty simple atmosphere in my opinion. The service was quick and friendly. The rest of he menu looked on point. From what I can tell the rest of the patrons were raving about their meals. I think this might be an underrated breakfast spot. I will definitely be back to explore some of their other savory items, but I definitely want to try a sweet.
I am about 5 months pregnant and craving something sweet and savory. The menu looked great - it was so difficult to pick just one entrée! My husband and I got the Waffle & Crispy Chicken and the Crunch Mascarpone and both just hit the spot! Waffle & Crispy Chicken - I really need to know what kind of seasoning is on this chicken because mMmMm MmmMm I'm almost drooling right now just thinking about it. The maple gochujang syrup was so interesting to me and was a great addition. Everything about this dish was LOVELY. Crunchy Mascarpone - Obviously I had to get the french toast stuffed with mascarpone, but dang, it's deep fried as well? HOW COULD YOU NOT? My husband was so surprised that they used legit kellogg's corn flakes in this dish. Service - 10/10. They were welcoming, there was no wait, and food came out quickly. We went on a Wednesday morning, so yea, it was pretty empty. Already counting down the days til I come back...
Every time I come here I keep trying to try something different in the menu, I haven't been disappointed so far. This time came on a Monday morning for breakfast before having to drop a friend off at the airport. Immediately got a table for 2. Got the crab Benedict. My friend ordered the Korean chicken sandwich, he's from SoCal but he said he actually really enjoyed it. The staff are always so sweet and nice. It's such a cute place it's become one of my favorite places to go and recommend.
Love this new place. They have Asian inspired breakfasts. Everything we tried was so good. Eggs Benedict, fried rice! Yum. We'll definitely go back. Hopefully no one has discovered this yet so it won't be too busy! Restaurant was nice and clean
I love this place genuinely more than I can express with words! This place gets super busy so make sure you come early or bring your patience. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait and the food came out fresh and hot pretty quickly! We loved hanging out here, it is very comfortable and has a clean, country kitchen vibe. I loved my Jjapaguri and it paired perfectly with my matcha drink. My husband was obsessed with his Unagi Omorice. The unagi was literally perfect, tender yet crunchY! His bloody mary was also excellent! My kid loved his Korean Wings as well and inhaled them before I could get a full review! This place is literally a 10/10 and we can't wait for round 2!
Had the chance to try this spot on 19th street! I had really high expectations as the photos of the food looked great! We came during a weekday so it wasn't as busy, we came between breakfast and lunch before the lunch rush came! My advice, come around 10, u beat the breakfast rush and avoid lunch rush! Parking can be annoying as it's all street parking. Inside decor is cool as the place is modern with an open kitchen and high ceilings! Service was good, workers were friendly and professional! Angela helped us twice now, and she is awesome! She works hard as she's the only one taking orders and she hustles! Respect to Angela! For the food, we ordered the loco moco, with garlic fried rice and a delicious egg that surrounds the garlic fried rice! They used a wagu beef patty and it was a little over cooked but still had great flavor! The Garlic fried rice was delicious as well as the scrambled egg! Great combo! Definitely a must try! The unagi version is extremely popular and my pops loved it! The poutine was decent but not what I expected, good crispy tator tots, house sauce and a Fried egg! I was expecting gravy and those cheese curds but no thick gravy or cheese curds.... French toast was decent, expected it to be a little more soft or fluffier but it was a little more on the dryer side, good flavor but on the drier side! Lemon ricotta pancakes were probably the best ones I've tried! Fluffy, airy, lemon flavor was on point! Must try! The wealthy pig Benedict was great! Nice pieces of bacon, Avocado, and tomato with a house sauce and a poached egg! Excellent poached egg and it was over a sourdough break instead of English muffin! Also this spot has awesome coffee! The barista is awesome! One dude making all the drinks! He made my latte excellent twice now!! Overall, very happy with this spot! A must try!

We came here after going to the farmer's market. They were pretty busy but luckily we were able to get patio seating quickly since we came with our dog. The staff was very kind and moved the umbrellas to keep us in the shade and they also immediately brought over a bowl of ice water for the pup. The unagi omurice was creamy with a nicely whipped egg and the unagi gave it a very savory umami flavor. The husband's Hilo Moco was also good, though a little salty. The bacon side and coffee were solid too. It is a bit pricey, but understandable for Midtown. We'll be back again though to explore more of the menu since we love that they are dog friendly and service was top notch!

i've scrolled past this restaurant on yelp so many times and finally got to give it a try! it was so cute and cozy inside. everything on their menu sounded so good and i finally chose the jjapaguri, sooo freaking yummy!! the noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was so savory. my girlfriend got the crispy benedict, i didn't try because im not a fan of benedicts but she loved it!! i did try her side of potatoes and they were so soft and crispy. my girlfriend's brother got the crab benedict (not pictured) and he also loved his plate. the honey kyoto drink was soooooo delicious omg!! it wasn't super strong but not super sweet either, it was perfect in my opinion! the staff was also sweet and very attentive. 100% will be coming back to try more read more
Finally tried Sunny Side Breakfast in Sacramento and really enjoyed it! I got the chicken and waffles, and the chicken was sooo juicy and flavorful. We also got the lemon ricotta pancakes, and OMG, they were so good! You could actually taste the lemon, but it wasn't overpowering at all. They had the perfect balance--not too sweet and not too lemony. My favorite was the pancakes and my two other friends can attest to that. The ambiance was very cute. It is across the street from chipotle. There are plenty of street parking on a good day. Make sure to check to see if it requires you to pay for parking. Overall, everything we had was delicious, and I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu! read more

Fantastic! What a great meal at sunny side. I love the Asian fusion idea, all of the options were freakin delicious and I can't wait to come back to try more. The lemon ricotta pancakes were absolutely perfect, crispy on the sides and fluffy in the middle with the right amount of lemon flavor. Also the service was incredible. Second time here: - KP Wings are good (actually my favorite are the rice cakes in the dish... crispy style... nice). The wings looked kinda dark, but the soy garlic flavor was good. I prefer wings from other places, but still very good. - Poutine Potatoes: crispy tater tots with bacon, gravy, fried egg, and furakake toppings. Very nice. We got the gravy in the side (dipping them keeps them crispy) - Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: wonderfully crispy edges and light citrus flavor. Excellent if you are in the mood! - Chapaguri: okay, I watched a YouTube video of some expert chef make a dish using two ramen packaged products make a similar dish: mix the Korean chapaghetti with you favorite ramen and add toppings as desired. Well, this is that dish done right! (Tried it myself... not as good as Sunny Side's). Worth a try! read more
Came to Sunny Side Breakfast after checking out a small art fair and left very satisfied! We shared the Unagi Tornado Omurice and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and it was the perfect amount for two! Starting with the omurice, we really liked the layers of flavor with the sweet and savory rice, creamy egg, and tender sweet eel. The eel portion was also quite generous and there was enough to have some with every bite. As for the pancakes, they had that envious fluffy and chewy texture that you just can't recreate at home. The lemon flavor was also bright and zingy and paired well with the fresh summer fruits on the plate. All in all, great find in midtown. Pair it with the Midtown farmers market and you'll have a perfect Saturday morning in my opinion! read more
Meet up with friends for brunch on a weekday with no wait time we we're quickly greeted and seated ! Look small from outside but had ample amount of seating ,and nicely decorated ! Staff were friendly and attentive ! Everything we order was fresh, hot and flavorful. I did wish the tater tots had more poutine gravy We order a masala chai that come out as a tea bag with hot water , would be nice with some milk ! Portion was generous along with pricing ! Definetly worth stopping by and wouldn't mind coming back to try their other items read more
The service was fast but we went on a Friday after 1 normally we've gone and the wait times are pretty long which is why we chose this place this time because we didn't think it'd be busy and we both happened to be off on a weekday. It wasn't super busy and it was the end of their lunch rush probably. Lighting is more natural and it's not too bright our table was tightly packed into an area and it was sorta awkward but it wasn't too busy so it was fine. The food was okay. You can never go wrong with the two eggs with bacon and I respect the vision of the crispy Benedict but I just personally wasn't a fan. I think if I tried more items I'd like this place more but the hollandaise for the crispy Benedict wasn't my favorite and maybe it was the tang from the siracha but I didn't enjoy it as much and i usually like a generous amount of hollandaise lucky for me there wasn't a lot. The chicken was crispy and my boyfriend and I both enjoyed the potatoes. We both agreed that the food could have been saltier but we added some salt ourselves. It was an interesting experience but I'm not sure if I'd wait during their busy times to try it again so maybe one day when I'm off on a weekday again I'll give it another shot. read more
I walked in on Saturday morning around 10:30am, and luckily there was a table available! The restaurant is bigger in person than it looks online. Servers were very attentive. All the food we ordered was delicious! They were perfect portions for brunch. There is no parking nearby so do plan for that ahead. I totally get the hype now. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was packed, so I was expecting a bit of a wait. The iPad estimated 26 minutes, but we were seated in less than 10. Huge win when you're dining with a kid! The staff was friendly, attentive, and everything felt organized despite how busy it was. I also loved being able to see into the open kitchen. The whole restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and has a fun modern vibe. Our favorite dish was probably the Tornado Unagi. The flavors were amazing and the ginger fried rice was such a unique touch. The Hilo Moco was also delicious with a thick wagyu patty and rich mushroom gravy. My son loved the lemon ricotta pancakes, especially the cute bear face and fresh fruit. And the coconut latte? So good. I'd honestly stop in just for that. We also tried the chicken apple patties and they were way more flavorful than I expected. I'm going to try and make them at home lol We'll definitely be back. One of those places where every dish made us want to come back and try more of the menu. read more
Swung by with a few friends for a Saturday brunch. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they seated and served us, and we were lucky enough to get a table right next to the window. It's a great place for people watching! I got a mimosa and a tater tot poutine dish. Wow wow wow! They were both super delicious and I felt that the price was more than fair for what I received. Amazing food. Great Ambience The wait time on weekends is 45 minutes to an hour. There are a few options, not a lot -- three things on the menu. The farmers tofu scramble was amazing, but on weekdays there is no wait. read more
Breakfast fusion? Yes please. I ordered the bacon, avocado & tomato benedict and it delivered -- really solid flavors, the kind of breakfast that makes you wish you hadn't made afternoon plans. Worth the hour wait time... I was so excited to find an Asian fusion breakfast spot, and Sunnyside absolutely delivered. My daughter is picky, so we played it safe with the traditional breakfast while I ordered the Unagi omurice. The unagi was packed with rich, savory umami and somehow got better with every bite. I didn't share a single forkful. The lemon ricotta pancakes were fluffy with the perfect hint of lemon zest, reminding me of my mother-in-law's homemade pancakes. The traditional breakfast hit the classic brunch craving, the bottomless raspberry lemonade mimosas were dangerously delicious, and the lychee tequila cocktail was tart, crisp, and refreshing. I already can't wait to bring my chef husband so we can both big back our way through the menu together. 10/10, we'll definitely be back. read more
I was looking for a breakfast place to take my mother out on for motherday week. Found this place on yelp with decent reviews and decided to give it a try. When we first got there, it was pretty busy. I believe they were short staffed because there was only one lady taking orders while another bringing the food to each table. Our server seem to be in a rush (which I get since she is the only one serving) so I am not all upset at the fact that our water wasn't refilled when we were eating. The issue that I do have was after ee got done ordering and the lady server said "Give me your menus". It totally threw me off because it came off pretty rude. I would say that there are better ways and friendlier ways to saying things because it kind of ruined the whole breakfast experience for me. We ordered a couple of things; Piggy scramble egg, wealthy pig Benedict, unagi tornado omurice, crunchy mascarpone, and their sunrise poutine. The piggy scrable egg was probably the best item between everything. All the stuff they had with the egg were delicious tasting. The wealthy pig benedict was alright. The holladaise sauce was citrusy which was not something I was use to. The tomatoes that came with this dish was not thr best tasting. It was a bit bitter. The side of potatoes was pretty good though. The unagi omarice was okay. I think you would have to like eel to like this dish. The crunchy mascarpone was decent. It had some nice sauce in the middle with a crunchy out part. I was not much of a fan of the extra crunchy outer parts. The worst dish they had has to be the sunshine poutine. They overcooked the tatertots to the point where it felt like eating deep fried chips. The gravy it had was non existent. Overall experience was 3 out of 5 stars. There are always room for improvements. read more

As soon as I saw there was an Asian fusion brunch spot I knew I had to try. This place did not disappoints and was pretty packed when I came in mid day on a weekday. The menu was so hard to choose from with many cool options. Asked the server and decided on the unagi tornado omurice and omg first off the colors and presentation was amazing. Unagi is tender, the sauce is super sweet but evens out with the tender fluffy egg and ginger rice. Meal will leave you happy and full. read more

Another gem I found on Tiktok while looking for a cute and yummy brunch spot in Sac for my mini trip! It was about a 30 minute wait for a Sunday around 11 am. But it was so worth the wait! Definitely try to come early and put your name on the waitlist. I got the bacon Benedict with the tots! So flavorful! 5/5 The French toast was okay! 3/5. I feel like it was a bit dry. Finally got to try this spot after so much hype and seeing so many friends try it. My friends and I came on a Saturday after exploring the Sacramento Antique Faire. When we got here we were lucky to fond close by street parking snd were seated immediately. It was pretty packed when we came, lots of small groups and some families with little ones. It's not impossible to bring a stroller but you might feel cramped. Our service was great, the staff were nice and helpful. Our food was delicious, I ordered the yuzu benedict, my friend ordered the crab benedict, and my last friend ordered the sunrise poutine. All of our food was delicious, but I would say the poutine was the best. The yuzu sauce was a bit too citrusy for my liking but I still really enjoyed the dish. Our drinks were also good, the mimosas were less sweet than they looked. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would come again to try new things! read more
We had a big day planned and had decided to have a fun and different breakfast date in downtown Sac before hand. Yelp helped me find Sunny Side. There is metered street parking. We were sat right away. I loved the high ceilings and beams. Open and bright! The bathrooms were adorable and clean. Interesting menu. I ordered the Benedict with bacon and tomato and avocado. Chef back there knew his eggs! The hollandaise sauce here is Excellent. I could have drank it! That good! We also order this funky waffle, popcorn and chicken dish. My husband liked it a lot. He also had a Bloody Mary that he said was well poured. I would absolutely eat here again. read more

I've been wanting to try Sunny Side for a while because I always see the long line outside on the weekends. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. I had the crab Benedict and it was pretty bland. The potatoes and poached eggs were cooked well, however. My mom had the French toast and said it had a weird seasoning/after taste she didn't like. The staff were all SUPER FRIENDLY AND ATTENTIVE and the restaurant was clean! Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. Based on what we ordered though I probably won't be back for a while. read more

The food was amazing and everyone enjoyed their meals! Once we were seated, one downside was that it took a while for our server to get to us to take our orders and even longer to bring the check once we were done. There was a $65 charge for having a large party, we had 10 people so that is understandable but just wasn't expecting the large party charge. Other than that the food was delicious and we enjoyed the meal! read more
