Fantastic! What a great meal at sunny side. I love the Asian fusion idea, all of the options were freakin delicious and I can't wait to come back to try more. The lemon ricotta pancakes were absolutely perfect, crispy on the sides and fluffy in the middle with the right amount of lemon flavor. Also the service was incredible. We were helped by at least 3 different servers and all the food came out hot and fast. New favorite brunch spot. Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4.5 Value: 4.2 Marcels foodie score: 4.7
As soon as I saw there was an Asian fusion brunch spot I knew I had to try. This place did not disappoints and was pretty packed when I came in mid day on a weekday. The menu was so hard to choose from with many cool options. Asked the server and decided on the unagi tornado omurice and omg first off the colors and presentation was amazing. Unagi is tender, the sauce is super sweet but evens out with the tender fluffy egg and ginger rice. Meal will leave you happy and full.
Second time here: - KP Wings are good (actually my favorite are the rice cakes in the dish... crispy style... nice). The wings looked kinda dark, but the soy garlic flavor was good. I prefer wings from other places, but still very good. - Poutine Potatoes: crispy tater tots with bacon, gravy, fried egg, and furakake toppings. Very nice. We got the gravy in the side (dipping them keeps them crispy) - Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: wonderfully crispy edges and light citrus flavor. Excellent if you are in the mood! - Chapaguri: okay, I watched a YouTube video of some expert chef make a dish using two ramen packaged products make a similar dish: mix the Korean chapaghetti with you favorite ramen and add toppings as desired. Well, this is that dish done right! (Tried it myself... not as good as Sunny Side's). Worth a try!
Came to Sunny Side Breakfast after checking out a small art fair and left very satisfied! We shared the Unagi Tornado Omurice and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and it was the perfect amount for two! Starting with the omurice, we really liked the layers of flavor with the sweet and savory rice, creamy egg, and tender sweet eel. The eel portion was also quite generous and there was enough to have some with every bite. As for the pancakes, they had that envious fluffy and chewy texture that you just can't recreate at home. The lemon flavor was also bright and zingy and paired well with the fresh summer fruits on the plate. All in all, great find in midtown. Pair it with the Midtown farmers market and you'll have a perfect Saturday morning in my opinion!
I walked in on Saturday morning around 10:30am, and luckily there was a table available! The restaurant is bigger in person than it looks online. Servers were very attentive. All the food we ordered was delicious! They were perfect portions for brunch. There is no parking nearby so do plan for that ahead. Note- bottomless mimosas are timed and moderated for one hour.. and they are on that!
I totally get the hype now. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was packed, so I was expecting a bit of a wait. The iPad estimated 26 minutes, but we were seated in less than 10. Huge win when you're dining with a kid! The staff was friendly, attentive, and everything felt organized despite how busy it was. I also loved being able to see into the open kitchen. The whole restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and has a fun modern vibe. Our favorite dish was probably the Tornado Unagi. The flavors were amazing and the ginger fried rice was such a unique touch. The Hilo Moco was also delicious with a thick wagyu patty and rich mushroom gravy. My son loved the lemon ricotta pancakes, especially the cute bear face and fresh fruit. And the coconut latte? So good. I'd honestly stop in just for that. We also tried the chicken apple patties and they were way more flavorful than I expected. I'm going to try and make them at home lol We'll definitely be back. One of those places where every dish made us want to come back and try more of the menu.
Breakfast fusion? Yes please. I ordered the bacon, avocado & tomato benedict and it delivered -- really solid flavors, the kind of breakfast that makes you wish you hadn't made afternoon plans. The latte was great too, which honestly completes the whole experience. Service was friendly and efficient without being rushed, which is exactly the energy you want at a breakfast spot. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Sacramento.
I was looking for a breakfast place to take my mother out on for motherday week. Found this place on yelp with decent reviews and decided to give it a try. When we first got there, it was pretty busy. I believe they were short staffed because there was only one lady taking orders while another bringing the food to each table. Our server seem to be in a rush (which I get since she is the only one serving) so I am not all upset at the fact that our water wasn't refilled when we were eating. The issue that I do have was after ee got done ordering and the lady server said "Give me your menus". It totally threw me off because it came off pretty rude. I would say that there are better ways and friendlier ways to saying things because it kind of ruined the whole breakfast experience for me. We ordered a couple of things; Piggy scramble egg, wealthy pig Benedict, unagi tornado omurice, crunchy mascarpone, and their sunrise poutine. The piggy scrable egg was probably the best item between everything. All the stuff they had with the egg were delicious tasting. The wealthy pig benedict was alright. The holladaise sauce was citrusy which was not something I was use to. The tomatoes that came with this dish was not thr best tasting. It was a bit bitter. The side of potatoes was pretty good though. The unagi omarice was okay. I think you would have to like eel to like this dish. The crunchy mascarpone was decent. It had some nice sauce in the middle with a crunchy out part. I was not much of a fan of the extra crunchy outer parts. The worst dish they had has to be the sunshine poutine. They overcooked the tatertots to the point where it felt like eating deep fried chips. The gravy it had was non existent. Overall experience was 3 out of 5 stars. There are always room for improvements.
Another gem I found on Tiktok while looking for a cute and yummy brunch spot in Sac for my mini trip! It was about a 30 minute wait for a Sunday around 11 am. But it was so worth the wait! Definitely try to come early and put your name on the waitlist. I got the bacon Benedict with the tots! So flavorful! 5/5 The French toast was okay! 3/5. I feel like it was a bit dry. Cant wait to come back when I am in town again.
We had a big day planned and had decided to have a fun and different breakfast date in downtown Sac before hand. Yelp helped me find Sunny Side. There is metered street parking. We were sat right away. I loved the high ceilings and beams. Open and bright! The bathrooms were adorable and clean. Interesting menu. I ordered the Benedict with bacon and tomato and avocado. Chef back there knew his eggs! The hollandaise sauce here is Excellent. I could have drank it! That good! We also order this funky waffle, popcorn and chicken dish. My husband liked it a lot. He also had a Bloody Mary that he said was well poured. I would absolutely eat here again.
Finally got to try this spot after so much hype and seeing so many friends try it. My friends and I came on a Saturday after exploring the Sacramento Antique Faire. When we got here we were lucky to fond close by street parking snd were seated immediately. It was pretty packed when we came, lots of small groups and some families with little ones. It's not impossible to bring a stroller but you might feel cramped. Our service was great, the staff were nice and helpful. Our food was delicious, I ordered the yuzu benedict, my friend ordered the crab benedict, and my last friend ordered the sunrise poutine. All of our food was delicious, but I would say the poutine was the best. The yuzu sauce was a bit too citrusy for my liking but I still really enjoyed the dish. Our drinks were also good, the mimosas were less sweet than they looked. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would come again to try new things!
I've been wanting to try Sunny Side for a while because I always see the long line outside on the weekends. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. I had the crab Benedict and it was pretty bland. The potatoes and poached eggs were cooked well, however. My mom had the French toast and said it had a weird seasoning/after taste she didn't like. The staff were all SUPER FRIENDLY AND ATTENTIVE and the restaurant was clean! Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. Based on what we ordered though I probably won't be back for a while.
Stopped in for breakfast while friends met us in downtown Sacramento and so glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious, and the portions were generous. I ordered the omurice and it was packed with flavor. My husband and I love finding great breakfast spots this one did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, service was quick, and everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area!

This was such a great fusion of food! We had been looking for somewhere for breakfast and this looked like the most appealing. Well believe me when I say I am so glad we wound up here. Everything my family had was delicious. I had the coconut chai tea latte iced, chicken and waffle, and a side of eggs - soooo good just all of it. I also loved the vibe of the space, it's clean and well organized for seating - the check in was simple. The service there was also good, they checked up on us as needed and well a picture is worth a thousand words but I gushed over how cute my son's pancake was - see for yourself! Had the chance to try this spot on 19th street! I had really high expectations as the photos of the food looked great! We came during a weekday so it wasn't as busy, we came between breakfast and lunch before the lunch rush came! My advice, come around 10, u beat the breakfast rush and avoid lunch rush! Parking can be annoying as it's all street parking. Inside decor is cool as the place is modern with an open kitchen and high ceilings! Service was good, workers were friendly and professional! Angela helped us twice now, and she is awesome! She works hard as she's the only one taking orders and she hustles! Respect to Angela! For the food, we ordered the loco moco, with garlic fried rice and a delicious egg that surrounds the garlic fried rice! They used a wagu beef patty and it was a little over cooked but still had great flavor! The Garlic fried rice was delicious as well as the scrambled egg! Great combo! Definitely a must try! The unagi version is extremely popular and my pops loved it! The poutine was decent but not what I expected, good crispy tator tots, house sauce and a Fried egg! I was expecting gravy and those cheese curds but no thick gravy or cheese curds.... French toast was decent, expected it to be a little more soft or fluffier but it was a little more on the dryer side, good flavor but on the drier side! Lemon ricotta pancakes were probably the best ones I've tried! Fluffy, airy, lemon flavor was on point! Must try! The wealthy pig Benedict was great! Nice pieces of bacon, Avocado, and tomato with a house sauce and a poached egg! Excellent poached egg and it was over a sourdough break instead of English muffin! Also this spot has awesome coffee! I try to give 5 star ratings sparingly, but I assure you, this place is definitely deserving. My wife knows weekend outlandish breakfasts are my favorite meals, so she surprised me by taking me here. The server was very...real. That's the only way to describe her. She was very helpful and attentive, but it wasn't an act in hopes for a good tip. Now then...the food. I ordered the crab Benedict. Very messy, hard to eat...but in the best way a Benedict should be. Plenty of crab and spinach, and a good amount of hollandaise. The eggs were POACHED PERFECTLY. This cannot be stressed enough. I've been to many Sacramento places where the eggs are either rushed or overcooked...these were great. Also, the potatoes were crispy on the outside, but burning hot and soft on the inside. We shared the lemon ricotta pancakes, which were very indulgent. A perfectly sweet, lemony, but not overly sweet dish to bite through the heavy savory Benedict (I'm skinny, had a month long bout with pneumonia, so trying to GAIN weight). My wife got the tornado omurice, and loved it... saying she wants to come back and order again. On Saturday and Sunday, expect a long wait (see previous review of coffee shop for context), but without a doubt... worth the wait read more

My friends picked this place out for brunch and I tagged along expecting a typical brunch menu. Pretty cool having a restaurant serving brunch with an Asian twist! The Asian elements are subtle -- it's still pancakes, chicken, waffles, and the usual jazz but with sides/condiments such as Gochujang syrup and japanese curry. I opted for the chicken and waffles. I'd wager a guess that this is one of the menu favorites, as it's hard to go wrong with such a classic brunch combo and the maple gochujang adds a nice touch. 4.5/5 I tried some of my friend's lemon ricotta pancakes which I absolutely loved. It's simple and genius. Most brunch places serve blueberry and strawberry pancakes; I'm surprised to be hearing about lemon ricotta just now. Expect a moderate citrus flavor to it. 5/5 Excellent and well-timed service despite arriving with a group of 12 people at approximately 11am. I wasn't actively timing, but I don't recall waiting very long for all dishes to come out. Might be my new favorite brunch spot in Sac. read more
Was visiting and was trying to look for a good brunch spot. This place came popped up so I decided to try it. Upon arrival, there was already a bunch of people in queue waiting to be seated. It's pretty loud and busy inside. Waiting about 20~ ish minutes. Ended up ordering the French toast and fruit with bacon and eggs. It was really good! Finished everything lol. No complaints. We arrived with family from out of town to try out Sunny Side breakfast for the first time. When we arrived we waited outside with several other people and just socialized while we waited. We probably waited maybe 45 minutes before we were finally called inside, and then sat in the back area with other larger parties as we were a party of 6. Ordered: Waffle & Crispy Chicken Blackstone Omelet Jjapaguri Lemon Ricotta Pancake plate Sunrise Poutine Arnold Palmer Sprite Iced Mocha Coffee Vanilla Cappuccino The food was delicious and their were no complaints from any of us. I personally ordered the waffles and crispy chicken amd they were really good. I like the spin on the sauce paired with the dish because typically it would be a syrup type of sauce. But this was more savory with a sweet combination as well, making for an interesting fusion. Overall: Great food, great location, and great service. Would definitely come back again. read more
This is an adorable establishment. While my Wealthy Pig Benedict was tasty it arrived luke warm even though I was served last. I believe it would have tasted better if it was actually hot. My decaf coffee was delicious. The service was great except I had to request a refill of coffee after we were served but I can deal with that. The parking was free and easy street parking. I may give this another try to make sure it wasn't just a fluke. read more

We got to the restaurant around 9:30am on a Saturday and for a party of 2 waited about 10 mins. There is no parking lot so you have to park on the street. I got their famous unagi tornado omurice with a matcha latte ($24+$7). My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles ($23). The omurice was delicious. I love eel and the sauce was tasty. The chicken and waffles came with gochujang syrup which was more on the savory side. I love the concept of Asian fusion because I love Asian food. The matcha latte was good but I wish it was a little more sweet. All the dishes looked aesthetically pleasing! Service was good. They came around to refill our waters a couple times. They even clear my empty plates while waiting for the bill. The restaurant is a little small but they have a back area for more outdoor seating. Overall, it was very good. I definitely want to try their other dishes next time. read more
Wow! Asian brunch fusion: this spot is a hit! In case you couldn't tell by the name, this is a breakfast spot, and it is in high demand. Expect long lines on the weekend. They have many classic breakfast options and they do them well, but they also have some fun Asian fusion options like the korean burger, Hilo moco, and a yuzu benedict, and even a soju martini. We had great service and loved the food. We will definitely be back! read more

Another amazing breakfast here. Again, some of the best Asian infusion places that I have tried out, especially for breakfast. They are phenomenal. Service is always incredibly fast and pleasant. Their establishment has this very light and comfortable setting to. It goes perfectly with the name. You always feel Sunny side up when you enter here. read more
My second time here and it's absolutely great. Very busy spot, however, I reserved thru yelp so it wasn't much of a wait for a table. Friendly staff and service was pretty quick. The restaurant is small and simple with minimal decorations making it feels relaxed. The menu is a mix of asian and American fusion. There are plenty of options to choose from as well drinks. I had the Unagi Omurice. It had a great balance of savory from the rice, egg, and eel with sweetness from the sauce. Every bite melts in your mouth. I had such a great first experience at Sunnyside Breakfast that I'm already wishing I could stay in town longer so I could come back more often. My friend and I stopped by on President's Day around 1:30 p.m., not realizing they were so busy, though we knew they would close around 2:30 p.m.--but definitely not expecting a waitlist that late in the day. We were quoted 14th on the list, so we braced ourselves for a long wait, but were pleasantly surprised to be seated in about 25 minutes. Honestly, not bad at all, especially considering how packed it was (probably a mix of the holiday and the food actually being worth the hype). I went in specifically wanting to try the unagi tornado omurice, and it did not disappoint. The unagi was soft and tender--not overly chewy--and paired so well with the egg and rice. The portion was also just right--filling enough to satisfy, but not so heavy that I felt overly stuffed. I would 100% order this again if I could. My friend ordered the crab benedict with a side of roasted potatoes, and I got to try a bit of both. The benedict had great flavor, and the potatoes were especially delicious--well-seasoned and a perfect side. She also mentioned that her portion was just right: satisfying without being too filling. Despite how busy the restaurant was, the service was impressive. We were greeted and had our order taken quickly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The staff were friendly, attentive, and kept things moving smoothly. I also ordered a masala chai tea, which was perfect for the cold, rainy weather--warm, comforting, and exactly what I needed. I was also pleasantly surprised that my omurice wasn't piping hot to the point of burning my mouth--the temperature was just right for that first bite. I went here for brunch with a group of 4 on a Friday morning around 9am. No wait and we were seated right away. I ordered the sunrise poutine and my friends got the omurice and the wealthy pig eggs Benedict. Food came out pretty quickly. I substituted potato wedges instead of tater tots. The dish was really delicious and the potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside. I wouldn't call it poutine since there were no cheese curds and the gravy was almost non-existent but it was tasty bacon fries. Street parking only, we parked at a meter across the street. Great place for breakfast. Parking is a bit tricky and came on a Saturday with the farmers market going on so had to park a couple blocks away. For seated right away although they do have a Yelp waitlist. Inside isn't huge so I'm sure the wait time can get up there. I got the crunchy mascarpone and a side of bacon. My food was delicious, I ate all of it! A lot of the food I saw being brought out to other tables also looked really good so they have many tasty looking options. read more
Great brunch spot! The only downsides are street parking and the weekend long wait to be seated. At least it ended up being worth the wait. Service was pretty fast, especially considering how busy it was. I ordered the Piggy Scramble and really enjoyed it. The potatoes were sooo good. We ordered the Crunchy Mascarpone French Toast to share as a dessert to finish. Deep fried stuffed mascarpone is pretty unique and absolutely delicious. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Definitely best eaten right away because if it sits too long, the outside can get a bit hard. My friend ordered the Hilo Moco, which I tried a bite of and it was great as well. The wait was super long when we came during lunch, we waited around an hour and 15 mins. We ordered the chicken and waffles, lemon ricotta pancakes, unagi tornado omurice, and sunrise poutine. Everything was delicious, my favorite was definitely the sunrise poutine and the chicken and waffles. The unagi tornado omurice was good at first but we got tired of the taste towards the end because the unagi sauce was a bit too sweet as you eat. read more
We hadn't had brunch in a while, and found this place in midtown Sacramento. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed, and there was a waitlist on Yelp. We joined the waitlist on Yelp and waited for a table. In the meantime, we went to a nearby local market event to kill some time. The wait was not too long, maybe around 15 min before we got a text saying our table was ready. We started with mimosas, which were offered by glass or bottleless; we opted for glass, and they had many flavors to choose from. I ordered the Waffle and Crispy Chicken, which is served with maple syrup. It tasted alright. The chicken was flavorful, but the crust was a bit burnt. We also tried the Unagi Tornado Omurice, which looks like their signature dish. It came with ginger fried rice, unagi, tonado egg, tobiko, pickled ginger, and unagi sauce. Food came really fast. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes and they were the perfect texture. The bacon is nice and crispy. Super cute and intimate ambiance. The servers were really attentive if I needed water they were already pouring it. Will be coming back to try something more savory. read more

There is always a wait here on weekends that has made me curious about the hype. Glad that I finally made it out. I think I had about a 30 minute wait coming on a Saturday at around 11 am. I split the unagi dish and pancake with a friend. The unagi was a nice dish, very sweet though. Im not sure i would get this dish again, but I enjoyed it. The pancake was executed well, while not a special or unique pancake, it was solid. My friends also had the eggs Benedict and avocado toast, and reported that they were good. Overall not a bad entry into Sacramento's brunch scene. I'd come back definitely, but considering the wait and my low interest in brunch, its probably not going to be in my regular rotation. read more
