a cute cafe with warm lighting but the music is a bit on the louder side. got the chilaquiles and perico. the chilaquiles was very good, the salsa had a bright, tangy flavor and carries some heat. the chips are well made and keep their crunch throughout the dish despite being soaked in sauce. the egg was cooked perfectly for me. i think they were a bit heavy handed with the cheese and i wanted a bit more of the cilantro, onions, and sour cream. the perico was a pleasant surprise. the sauce was really good and is definitely more on the sweet side. the tuna was quality and i loved all of the components of the dish; the avocado, corn, onion, cilantro, sesame seeds, i think the way they worked together in this dish added a lot of flavor, harmony, and umami. i think i actually preferred this a lot more than the chilaquiles. service was minimal but our waiter was very kind! we asked for an extra tostada for our perico and he gave us two. read more

Ummmm yes please!!! La Costca has amazing tostadas!!! Came here on a Saturday around 11am, there was a line out the door but it moves so quickly. It can be hard to find a spot to dine at as the restaurant isn't that big. They do have some outdoor tables available but the weather was really cold that day and we got extremely luckily inside getting a spot at the coffee bar. My friend ordered the crab tostada and is was sooooo good. Not sure for how they plan to have that on the menu but definitely order that while you can. I had the tuna morena tostada. Came as one large tostada piled high with tuna, cucumber , jicama, peanuts cilantro. They served my dish with extra tostadas. Love how they are just so generous with the food. Parking can be tricky as it's in downtown so be prepared to do some walking or taking a minute to find a good parking spot. Next time I came back I would love to try their cubano sandwich. Decided to try this coffee shop since it has rave reviews. I had an iced latte with cajeta flavored cold foam and oat milk. The latte seemed so simple but was a 100/10! The staff was prompt in handling the long line, but not very engaging. Probably since they were SO BUSY! I was surprised at how much they batched their drinks. It did move fast and even with the amount of business they get, there was a good selection of seating available. Nice place! Love all the large plants and the bright, spacious feel. I had a cappuccino and the chilaquiles. They have a warning about their food being spicy and is definitely true! I haven't been eating spicy food lately, so I'm glad I was sharing the dish because there is no way I'd be able to handle eating the whole thing myself. Self-serve water, napkins, and cutlery. Only hiccup was that I received a text that my drink was ready, but it wasn't. I went and stood by the bar, confused for a couple minutes & thinking it would be out shortly, before asking someone. They had it prepared shortly after. Parking can be a bit challenging. It's all street parking; be cognizant of the no parking signs on some days/times. This place has me in a chokehold. Been here multiple times and does not disappoint. My go to drink has been the hot cappuccino with 1/2 a pump of brown sugar and vanilla, CHEFS KISS (Shout out to the barista that put me on!). The almond pastry is also so delicious. Soft, decant, and pair perfectly with the cappuccino. I've also tried their iced matcha and chai, very good as well. Their chai does not taste artificial like most other places. The only grievance I have with the spot is the space, it's can be very hard to get a seat, especially on weekends but really can't blame them for that, it's an amazing spot! read more

The food is good and they now have a warning that most of their food is spicy. I've heard mixed reviews about them accommodating allergies because the chef believes it will compromise the integrity of the dish so hope they're just up front about that now so folks aren't disappointed after they order. Also so sad that I can't order any ceviche until 10am (personal strife since I do an 8am workout class lol). The baristas are always super nice. I do fear the ambiance has gone downhill it's always crowded and they have so many "rules"- they have a sign saying where you can use a laptop Friday-Sunday, a note about most food being spicy, you can't order ceviche until after 10am like I get it that's the point of having a space you make the rules but damn. Last note- it's so expensive. A vanilla oat latte is $9.23 because you have to add the flavor and oat milk. I know costs have increased across the board but they have a competitor down the street (Milka) that has figured out how to have the cost you see is what you pay (cost of drink includes tax, tip (pay employees a living wage), alt milk, etc). All of this to say, do I still come? Occasionally because the food is good. read more

I popped into La Casa after visiting my friends at the healing touch chiropractic. It was about 10:10 AM this past Saturday and it was crackin! I knew that I wanted to get a concha and then I wasn't sure if I was gonna go with a Matcha or a black coffee but due to an appointment I had I just grabbed a quick drip and it was delicious . Unfortunately they don't allow any adjustments to their items, so I couldn't order the items I wanted such as Chilaquiles and the Torta. Swung by La Costa Cafe and grabbed breakfast to go, my first visit after hearing plenty of good things. The cashier whose also name was James was a super nice guy. Even in takeout mode, the cafe made a strong first impression. The iced matcha latte was a clear standout and easily one of the best I've had. Creamy with a vibrant green tea flavor, perfectly balanced and not overly sweet, which is exactly how matcha should be in my opinion. I also ordered the chilaquiles to go. Presentation took a hit after the journey in the box, but the flavor absolutely held up. The tortilla chips were still impressively crunchy, and the salsa verde brought real heat and brightness, instantly waking up my taste buds in the morning. The black beans were a smart, grounding addition, helping balance the spice and round out the dish. Overall, La Costa Cafe lives up to the praise. I've lived near La Costa for the better part of a year and have yet to try their food. I've had their matcha before and was impressed with how tasty it is (granted, I don't know much about matcha, just that it's blown up in popularity lately). There's usually a long, consistent line at La Costa on weekends, with people eating, studying, and drinking their matchas inside and outside. The shop itself has a clean, minimalist aesthetic and sits in a great part of downtown (I might be biased since I live nearby), but it really is a nice area for a walk. It does get crowded, though; there's almost always a full house and a line out the door, so dining in can feel a bit cramped. If there's space, I would try to sit outside. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and in my experience, the drinks come out quickly. Today, though, it was finally time to try their food. Honestly, my expectations were low: cafés aren't usually known for great meals, but the Mexican twist on the menu had always caught my eye. That said, the prices might put some people off (myself included), which is probably why I waited so long to give it a shot. But I have to admit that I was wrong to judge. La Costa is serving some genuinely great food that's far beyond what you'd expect from a coffee shop. I assumed it would be overpriced, white-washed "Mexican-inspired" dishes, but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered three dishes to share: the chilaquiles, wild mushroom toast, and pan de elote, which came to about $42. That might sound steep for toast, a pastry, and a main dish, but both of us left feeling full and even had to take some pan de elote home. Considering how satisfied we were, $21 a head feels totally fair. Don't judge a book by its cover. The mushroom toast looks simple, but it's quite special, a mix of fresh, sautéed mushrooms. The whipped feta really elevates the flavor and adds a wow factor. It's a real treat and a nice change from the usual avocado toast (which they also offer). The chilaquiles were solid, topped with a spicy salsa verde, and everything tasted fresh. I wouldn't call them groundbreaking, but they were definitely on par with other good spots. I actually liked the soft-boiled egg on top, which is a fun twist compared to the usual sunny-side or fried egg. Lastly, the pan de elote was a standout. If you've ever had the cornbread or corn pudding at Chevy's, it reminded me of that: sweet, crumbly, yet moist and perfectly held together. It was delicious, especially dipped in the leftover salsa verde. I also noticed a La Esperanza truck delivering products while I was there, which is a great sign. La Esperanza has fantastic, authentic Mexican ingredients. Sorry, I misjudged you for so long, La Costa. You're definitely more than just your matcha. read more

Well for starters, this is a very cute but small cafe so be prepared for a nice wait just in case it is full inside, they also have outdoor seating. I am someone who very much enjoys caffeine so we decided to pop in and give this place a try. The service was pretty nice and quick which was great since we had places to go. I ordered the Brown Sugar Pumpkin Spice Latte and boy did I regret it... to be honest it tasted like just sugar and milk, hardly any espresso flavor and that was me asking for the beverage HALF sweet. Luckily, the barista was kind enough to spare an extra shot to make it better. I was very much appreciative of that gesture but all in all, it was still not a good beverage. Our other drink was their Iced Chai Latte, that drink was also not very good. It lacked flavor and felt like I was just drinking milk with pepper. We paid about $14 just for us to dump both drinks in the trash. Truly unfortunate that we didn't have a pleasant experience, I was really looking forward to a new coffee shop. This review is based on drinks and not food. I definitely want to come back and try out their food. It's been a while since I've been to La costa, it used to be one of my favorite places for matcha. Decided to try it again today and the matcha tasted super milky, with barely any taste of matcha. I usually get it with oat, but today I got it with regular milk so it tastes different. Sadly I won't be coming here for matcha anymore as there are better options around. As for their hibiscus aqua fresca, it was good, but so sour making it hard to drink. Not sure why this time around the drinks are decreasing in quality. I will definitely be back to try again another less busy day. It was also extremely hot in the cafe today. I asked to add Guacamole to my chilaquiles and the girl said it's not guacamole, it's just avocado cut right on top. I got the recommendation from a friend to try their matcha. Came here on the weekend with some friends to try it out. Seemed like this place is pretty popular as there was a line and it was a full house inside. While waiting in line, the people in front of us and our group were waiting in line, door was cracked open, and we were asked by one of the workers to keep the door closed and to stay outside, and to only move in when the line moved forward, since it was crowded inside--which we did. That same worker was coming in and out of the restaurant, and moments later she asked us to step back from the door, which we again, followed her directions. Not too long after that, she then asked us to step way back (seemed to be more than enough clearance from the door already, like basically around the corner from the door). I normally wouldn't mind obliging with what the staff asks me, but the fact that we were asked multiple times to adjust made it seemed disorganized and we didn't feel as welcomed as customers. Had she asked us all in one go to stand outside and stand at a certain area, we would have not batted an eye. The interesting while we pondered this situation is that the door swings inwards, rather than outwards, which made it a challenging situation for customers holding things to push the door open, and also for entering customers to push the door open (and they could accidentally push the door into other customers waiting in line). Seemed like odd building architecture. We ordered a matcha latte with oat milk. Unfortunately, I felt like their matcha latte seemed to be more oat milk forward than matcha.
