In my time here in Sac, this location has been 3 different cafes- I have to say La Costa is my favorite iteration. The challenge is getting here early enough on a weekend! There is typically a line (generally moves pretty fast) but they sometimes will sell out if popular breakfast items- like the bfast tacos which I have only been able to get once :') We usually share a toast with another breakfast item (chilaquiles add chorizo). The chorizo on the chilaquiles is very flavorful, but extremely spicy to me. I also enjoy the matcha latte here, it's very rich and has a concentrated earthy matcha flavor.
A small shop in midtown but has the right perks to make you go back there again! I ordered the vanilla latte which is my usual go to for all new coffee shops. It's probably one of the best vanilla lattes I've ever had. The vanilla bean syrup is the perfect sweetness and tastes just as good if not better as the one I make at home. The salmon tartare was also pretty filling. They give you plenty of salmon to make the price worth it. They add bits of chili flakes to give you a kick which I enjoyed. My friend also had their tacos which ended up being massive and she enjoyed them as well. Definitely coming back here again. We were both craving their coffee the very next day!
We went on a Saturday morning and wow it was crazy busy. It was a bit overwhelming but I know this place is pretty popular. We tried a couple of the tuna tostadas and they were fresh and refreshing. I did enjoy them very much. I forgot to take a picture of our coffee but the coffee was good too. I'd visit again and hopefully get their outdoor seating to get away from the busy crowd.
While parking can be difficult, especially on the weekend, it's worth it. The menu has a variety of options, but the classics such as chilaquiles and chorizo breakfast tacos are available. The portions are generous and will keep you full for the whole day. The first time I opted for an agua fresca of pepino and limon, and this most recent time I got the cafe de olla latte iced, which may be my favorite coffee at the moment. Staff were nice, and service was good. They have menus available at the door so you can review the menu while you wait in line and can order immediately at the front. They also have a variety of pastries in a case next to the cashier so you may be tempted to order one too.
I loved the quaint setting where this cute cafe is located. It is located in a walkable neighborhood with lots of trees. There was a short line as we entered but it moved quickly. I ordered an almond pastry along with a flat white which I really enjoyed. While I enjoyed my food, my nephew indicated that he didn't care for his avocado toast. I did not try it so I'm not able to judge for this review. I will definitely visit this cafe again the next time I'm in Sacramento.
Decided to try this coffee shop since it has rave reviews. I had an iced latte with cajeta flavored cold foam and oat milk. The latte seemed so simple but was a 100/10! The staff was prompt in handling the long line, but not very engaging. Probably since they were SO BUSY! I was surprised at how much they batched their drinks. The matcha and horchata was in a container. Honestly, she made my latte by the time we were done paying too. There is plenty of room to do work at this location, and it is a perfect hub for college students or people looking to gather.

I had a cappuccino and the chilaquiles. They have a warning about their food being spicy and is definitely true! I haven't been eating spicy food lately, so I'm glad I was sharing the dish because there is no way I'd be able to handle eating the whole thing myself. Self-serve water, napkins, and cutlery. Only hiccup was that I received a text that my drink was ready, but it wasn't. I went and stood by the bar, confused for a couple minutes & thinking it would be out shortly, before asking someone. They had it prepared shortly after. Parking can be a bit challenging. It's all street parking; be cognizant of the no parking signs on some days/times. I enjoyed the drink, food, and atmosphere.
La costa is at the top of my favorite coffee spots in Sac. I love chilaquiles and their chilaquiles with chorizo are must try they're 13/10. The amount of spice is just right and not overpowering. I also enjoyed their matcha. They're setup is perfect for those that are looking to get work done while enjoying a bite and/or coffee. The staff were very friendly and quick. I'm curious to try the rest of their menu so I will be coming back.
Just bought a real book 'Black Flags, Blue Waters' and wanted to enjoy a nice cappuccino. Came here and got one with pretty heart foam. Staff so friendly. Luv this place.
The drink was super yummy! But the avocado toast was incredibly oily to the point that when I'm eating it it's dripping down my hand. It was really noisy inside as well. The service was good just the lines are slow but everyone is extremely nice and helpful when I asked questions!

When I think of downtown Sacramento, I always think of La Costa and the surrounding area. I love grabbing a matcha here and taking a walk nearby. Their avocado toast is also delicious. The spice they add gives it the perfect kick and makes it stand out from your typical avocado toast. Definitely one of my favorite spots in downtown Sac! #like #comment #livelaughlovelife!

Swung by with some friends for a quick drink on a Saturday morning. It's an oddly shaped building, so the line queues right up against the doors, but luckily we didn't have to wait long. I got a matcha latte, which did run a bit on the expensive end but which was very good. We didn't get any food items but did sit for a few minutes in one of the booths to chat. Despite being so busy, it feels small and intimate. Too fun!

I've been here a few times and it is one of my FAVORITE coffee shops in Sacramento. Interesting establishment because they have coffee, Mexican sweet bread and ceviche. Odd combo but it's all really great! Pictured: café de olla latter with cold foam, and agua chiles w/ tostada. The avocado toast is not the greatest, very basic and not worth the price. I've also had their torta which was REALLY GOOD. only down side is street parking is rough and you either have to pay or move your car every 2 hours. Also during peak hours it is PACKED so if you're trying to do work here recommend to get here early or closer to closing time. Coffee takes a really long time too when it's packed so plan accordingly. Service is your basic/nothing special, not outstanding but good! There is not that much seating (when it's packed) but each place I have sat there are outlets. There is outside seating but on dirt area. Then inside is super cute and a vibe. Honestly a great place it can just be really packed. But that's also a sign that it's a great Update: super bummed, I found a hair in my ceviche after posting this review. Today I tried something new. The perico tostada!!! OMG. That was sooooooo good. Ahi tuna, avocado corn and a delectable tamarind magic sauce. An abundance of all the ingredients - nothing is skimpy. I was eating from the top of the tostada thinking I was making a dent in this beautiful dish only to discover it was sitting on top of even more tuna and goodies. A tough problem to have - a dish that is worth its price tag. Amazing! The house drip coffee is simple but so good too! I also couldn't hold back and orders a cucumber and mint agua fresca. And of course the chicharrones and my partner's usual agua chile rojo dish. To top off our excursion we also bought a jar of the chili oil to take home with us. We've been wanting to try this place since it opened and by the time we moved out of Sac we've been hearing so many great reviews on the drinks and food, we finally came back into town and tried it. Iced Horchata hafcaf with Cajeta Soft Foam: 10/10 Iced Mocha: 7/10, needs more mocha Breakfast Tacos: 10/10 flavorful and prepared well Avocado Toast: 10/10 Pastries: 10/10 love the fun concha flavors, banana bread was so moist, chocolate cookie was soft Service: We did a to go order BUT when we came in there wasn't a "pick up" here location, so we waited in line to ask for items. I'm guessing online vs in person order, must be stay in line regardless? Ambiance: lots of seating, I could see why it gets busy and full so getting there early helps. A good amount of outdoor space if needed! Overall we would definitely come back here again and try all the different drinks and foods!!! read more

a cute cafe with warm lighting but the music is a bit on the louder side. got the chilaquiles and perico. the chilaquiles was very good, the salsa had a bright, tangy flavor and carries some heat. the chips are well made and keep their crunch throughout the dish despite being soaked in sauce. the egg was cooked perfectly for me. i think they were a bit heavy handed with the cheese and i wanted a bit more of the cilantro, onions, and sour cream. the perico was a pleasant surprise. the sauce was really good and is definitely more on the sweet side. the tuna was quality and i loved all of the components of the dish; the avocado, corn, onion, cilantro, sesame seeds, i think the way they worked together in this dish added a lot of flavor, harmony, and umami. i think i actually preferred this a lot more than the chilaquiles. service was minimal but our waiter was very kind! we asked for an extra tostada for our perico and he gave us two. read more

Ummmm yes please!!! La Costca has amazing tostadas!!! Came here on a Saturday around 11am, there was a line out the door but it moves so quickly. It can be hard to find a spot to dine at as the restaurant isn't that big. They do have some outdoor tables available but the weather was really cold that day and we got extremely luckily inside getting a spot at the coffee bar. My friend ordered the crab tostada and is was sooooo good. Not sure for how they plan to have that on the menu but definitely order that while you can. I had the tuna morena tostada. Came as one large tostada piled high with tuna, cucumber , jicama, peanuts cilantro. They served my dish with extra tostadas. Love how they are just so generous with the food. Parking can be tricky as it's in downtown so be prepared to do some walking or taking a minute to find a good parking spot. Next time I came back I would love to try their cubano sandwich. Would highly recommend this spot. read more

honestly I am super disappointed in this crab tostada... for $24 it's more of an avocado tostada with crab on top... I didn't pay to eat avocados, the avocado overwhelms the taste of the crab ... typically with tostadas the crab should fill the whole tostada and the avocado is used as a garnish...mind you it's not even a big tostada but a small one... it was okay but wouldn't order it again.. also I hate how they got rid of the large sizes for their iced drinks.. I used to go like every other day for matcha just because I truly enjoyed it now I go like once a month. The matcha tastes different too I feel like their quality went down as they've gained popularity which sucks. For $6.50 you pay for a small one where at other places you pay $6.50 for a large. I think it's also ridiculous to pay $5.50 for 1 single cookie although it is big that's still pretty up there for a treat. I paid $80 with tip for 2 drinks, 2 food items & 2 desserts. That feels pretty overpriced to me. I used to go all the time but honestly I don't think I'll be returning. read more
Matcha is incredible! My friend and I went there earlier this week and the vibe and service was amazing. Drinks came out within around 5 minutes. Granted, it was a little packed with limited seating when I went (around 11:20 am), but it was well deserved and expected for a cafe such as La Costa. Would definitely recommend! read more
This place has me in a chokehold. Been here multiple times and does not disappoint. My go to drink has been the hot cappuccino with 1/2 a pump of brown sugar and vanilla, CHEFS KISS (Shout out to the barista that put me on!). The almond pastry is also so delicious. Soft, decant, and pair perfectly with the cappuccino. I've also tried their iced matcha and chai, very good as well. Their chai does not taste artificial like most other places. The only grievance I have with the spot is the space, it's can be very hard to get a seat, especially on weekends but really can't blame them for that, it's an amazing spot! read more

I popped into La Casa after visiting my friends at the healing touch chiropractic. It was about 10:10 AM this past Saturday and it was crackin! I knew that I wanted to get a concha and then I wasn't sure if I was gonna go with a Matcha or a black coffee but due to an appointment I had I just grabbed a quick drip and it was delicious . Black sesame and vanilla concha: This hit all the feels from the taste that it was supremely fresh, to the perfect balance of vanilla and black sesame, and just melt in your mouth Mexican baked goodness. I can't wait to go back to try the Matcha in the food selection! Visit this local gem! It's also very people and dog friendly so you can totally get a good vibe there!. read more
Swung by La Costa Cafe and grabbed breakfast to go, my first visit after hearing plenty of good things. The cashier whose also name was James was a super nice guy. Even in takeout mode, the cafe made a strong first impression. The iced matcha latte was a clear standout and easily one of the best I've had. Creamy with a vibrant green tea flavor, perfectly balanced and not overly sweet, which is exactly how matcha should be in my opinion. I also ordered the chilaquiles to go. Presentation took a hit after the journey in the box, but the flavor absolutely held up. The tortilla chips were still impressively crunchy, and the salsa verde brought real heat and brightness, instantly waking up my taste buds in the morning. The black beans were a smart, grounding addition, helping balance the spice and round out the dish. Overall, La Costa Cafe lives up to the praise. I'd highly recommend it, and next time I'll be sitting in, hanging out a little longer, and working my way through more of the menu. read more

Food is the show stopper here. coffee is coffee. Usually coffee shop food is really bland and boring. This place adds a spicy touch to their creative menu. We got the tuna tostada and there was so much texture and flavor in every bite! We came for coffee/small snack. My wife and I shared the tostada. The matcha, cornbread, and latte was excellent. But the food was just ok to me. We got the breakfast tacos, and tamales. Unfortunately they don't allow any adjustments to their items, so I couldn't order the items I wanted such as Chilaquiles and the Torta. They only do soft boiled eggs on their chilaquiles which is not my preference, I like my eggs runny normally. The place is beautiful, well designed and the outdoor seating was a nice option, mix of shade & sunny spots. read more

This cafe is super cute and was a great spot for breakfast with friends on the weekend. We got the sweet potato and avocado tostada which was really fresh and also huge! We also got the mushroom toast, delicious, and the chilaquiles which were yummy and just the right amount of spice. Surprisingly my favorite was their cornbread, which might be my favorite I've ever tried! The onlyyy downside was the chai latte I got. My sisters got the vanilla latte and matcha latte with a shot of vanilla latte added and both really liked theirs. My chai was just a little bland. The food and drinks came out quickly and the man taking orders was quick and really nice. I'll definitely be back! read more

I remember I saw this coffee shop on TikTok when it recently opened and we decided to give it a try, since then it's one of my favorites, we always go back to Sacramento just to visit this place. I always get my favorite chilaquiles with chorizo and vanilla cappuccino. My husband loves the tamales, any meat it's delicious. I've lived near La Costa for the better part of a year and have yet to try their food. I've had their matcha before and was impressed with how tasty it is (granted, I don't know much about matcha, just that it's blown up in popularity lately). There's usually a long, consistent line at La Costa on weekends, with people eating, studying, and drinking their matchas inside and outside. The shop itself has a clean, minimalist aesthetic and sits in a great part of downtown (I might be biased since I live nearby), but it really is a nice area for a walk. It does get crowded, though; there's almost always a full house and a line out the door, so dining in can feel a bit cramped. If there's space, I would try to sit outside. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and in my experience, the drinks come out quickly. Today, though, it was finally time to try their food. Honestly, my expectations were low: cafés aren't usually known for great meals, but the Mexican twist on the menu had always caught my eye. That said, the prices might put some people off (myself included), which is probably why I waited so long to give it a shot. But I have to admit that I was wrong to judge. La Costa is serving some genuinely great food that's far beyond what you'd expect from a coffee shop. I assumed it would be overpriced, white-washed "Mexican-inspired" dishes, but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered three dishes to share: the chilaquiles, wild mushroom toast, and pan de elote, which came to about $42. That might sound steep for toast, a pastry, and a main dish, but both of us left feeling full and even had to take some pan de elote home. Considering how satisfied we were, $21 a head feels totally fair. Don't judge a book by its cover. The mushroom toast looks simple, but it's quite special, a mix of fresh, sautéed mushrooms. The whipped feta really elevates the flavor and adds a wow factor. It's a real treat and a nice change from the usual avocado toast (which they also offer). The chilaquiles were solid, topped with a spicy salsa verde, and everything tasted fresh. I wouldn't call them groundbreaking, but they were definitely on par with other good spots. I actually liked the soft-boiled egg on top, which is a fun twist compared to the usual sunny-side or fried egg. Lastly, the pan de elote was a standout. If you've ever had the cornbread or corn pudding at Chevy's, it reminded me of that: sweet, crumbly, yet moist and perfectly held together. It was delicious, especially dipped in the leftover salsa verde. I also noticed a La Esperanza truck delivering products while I was there, which is a great sign. La Esperanza has fantastic, authentic Mexican ingredients. Sorry, I misjudged you for so long, La Costa. You're definitely more than just your matcha. read more

Well for starters, this is a very cute but small cafe so be prepared for a nice wait just in case it is full inside, they also have outdoor seating. I am someone who very much enjoys caffeine so we decided to pop in and give this place a try. The service was pretty nice and quick which was great since we had places to go. I ordered the Brown Sugar Pumpkin Spice Latte and boy did I regret it... to be honest it tasted like just sugar and milk, hardly any espresso flavor and that was me asking for the beverage HALF sweet. Luckily, the barista was kind enough to spare an extra shot to make it better. I was very much appreciative of that gesture but all in all, it was still not a good beverage. Our other drink was their Iced Chai Latte, that drink was also not very good. It lacked flavor and felt like I was just drinking milk with pepper. We paid about $14 just for us to dump both drinks in the trash. Truly unfortunate that we didn't have a pleasant experience, I was really looking forward to a new coffee shop. The reason why I am giving this place four stars instead of five is it took the server a long time to deliver my food even though it was on the same tab as my girlfriends. I forgot to take pictures of what I ordered haha, but her dish was beautiful and delicious. She ordered chilaquiles. The ambiance inside the establishment was cute, the outside area was meh. I would come back here again but sit inside next time. Hopefully they bring out both our dishes at the same time. read more
