Hiso had been on my list for a long time and I'm only sorry I didn't visit sooner. I met up with a colleague right when they opened and we were both able to find parking right out front. This had been a big reason I hadn't stopped in before... parking can be hard downtown but I've learned it's worth a walk even if you have to park a few street over. I was told the green Thai tea ($6) here is delicious so we both eagerly ordered one to enjoy during the meal. They were served in larger carafes and it's so satisfying to stir before taking your first sip. Definitely a great portion for the price. We wanted to explore the menu so we ordered a variety of items to share, knowing we'd be taking home leftovers. We ordered the Green Curry ($17), Lao Pho ($18), Pas See Ew ($17), and pineapple fried rice ($19). It was truly a feast. All the dishes had a generous portion size and our server made sure we had extra bowls and plates to share the pho and other dishes. My personal favorites were the pad see ew and Lao pho, the noodles in the pad see ew were delicious and I always like eating this as fresh as possible so the noodles are steaming hot. The pho broth had great flavor and I loved that this Lao version had tomatoes in it. The meat in the pho was also delicious. The pineapple fried rice is a customer favorite, but didn't blow me away. I tend to like savory and spicy more than sweet and savory, so this could by why. The Green Curry was a bit too thin for my preferences, I like a thick curry. It was tasty though and I'm glad I gave it a try. I would definitely stop in again to try more of the menu, and when we stopped in the Lao sausage was sold out, so I'd definitely order it next time if they have it.
Looking for a delicious Laos and Thai restaurant in the Sacramento area? If so, Hiso in downtown Sac is for you! The interior of this restaurant is beautiful. The service is excellent and the menu is perfect. I love how you are greeted and seated immediately when you walk in. If you have questions about the menu, the servers are helpful in answering. The appetizers are tasty. I loved how we had the option of steaming or frying the potstickers we ordered. The main dishes were great too. I learned about mama drunken noodle being thinner than just the drunken noodle. I was curious about what the love drink was so I will have to order that next time I dine here. Overall, I had a great experience. I want to come back with my husband and friends. I wish I had room for dessert this trip. I will definitely be getting some next time! This place is really good and I highly suggest you dine here!
The flavor tho... Came here for dinner, and it is a super cute spot. We ordered a few things, and everything was so flavorful. Some of our favorites were the lamb larb and yellow curry. Both packed a good amount of heat at the spicy level, which we loved. The Lao sausage was also super flavorful, but as soon as you cut it, the inside does fall apart a bit. It's a personal preference to have a denser sausage. Service was also ok. We found ourselves needing to call over the waitress a couple times, since we were just sitting waiting to order or get a box and check at the end. Flavors are worth coming back for tho.
I order from here frequently. The consistency of this place keeps me coming back. The food is always fresh and piping hot the flavor hits everytime. I also order their yellow curry - a must try! L
So delicious! This was one of a few places that were actually open on the 4th of July, although with some limited hours (open until 8 pm). The location was a bit odd, as there were barely any other businesses nearby. There is street parking that you can pay for. It's a fairly small restaurant. We were were seated pretty quickly. Service was very friendly. I would say that portions were pretty reasonable. Things we ordered: -Pineapple fried rice: Very fragrant with the char and flavorful. Seasoned very well. We opted for mild spice on this. I would order this again. -Chicken pad thai: Done very well! Some places the pad thai is too sweet, but this one was very balanced and had a good tamarind flavor. Medium spicy was a bit on the spicy side, but perfect for me! Would order this again. -Duck larb: Unique, but I couldn't tell it was duck. My partner enjoyed this more than I did. The portion for the larb was on the smaller side and it came with some lettuce, radish, carrots, cucumbers. -Mee kati ground pork: A very unique dish that not many Thai restaurants seem to have, in which it came with noodles, and a variety of toppings like beans sprouts, lettuce, green beans, peanuts, and cilantro. It came with a fermented curry gravy, and it delicious! I would totally order this again. -Green Thai tea: Quite fragrant and not too full on half and half like some other places have it. It's also not as sweet as another local Thai restaurant. I would actually order this again. -Classic Thai tea: Strong Thai tea flavor, also not too sweet. Overall, Hiso was a great Thai/Lao restaurant and I would totally come back and recommend this place!
I went here on a whim and it definitely didn't disappoint! Even on a Saturday night we were able to be seated right away and service was very fast. They checked in on a us multiple times:) As for the food, flavor wise everything was super good! I do prefer circular shaped calamari with crunchier batter but still good otherwise. First time trying pineapple fried rice with raisins and cashews but surprisingly that combo was delicious. Very unlikely for me to order larb aswell but it was really refreshing with the veggies. I would def come back and try their thai tea/mango sticky rice. Parking is quite limited but I also found parking just around the corner of the restaurant.
If it's possible to give a restaurant more than 5 stars, I would. Everything was fantastic, from the service, to the coziness of this restaurant. I wish I took pictures of the interior, as it felt so intimate and the seats were comfortable. The food of course, are the stars of the show, and I've never been blown away from how good everything was. The Pad See Ew had a yummy smoky, wok hei flavor that not a lot of places incorporate. The ribeye is cooked perfectly, green curry has a nice coconut sweetness to it. And the laotian sausage, paired with their sauce and sticky rice hits the spot. This place was indeed comforting and my only regret is not trying more items. If you're craving southeast asian cuisine in an intimate atmosphere, I can't recommend this place enough.
My husband and I have dined at this Thai restaurant several times, and our previous experiences were great. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. My husband ordered the Kao Piek soup, which comes with tapioca noodles, chicken, and greens. He ate most of the noodles and some of the chicken before working his way down the bowl. He suddenly gagged and spit out a piece of chicken, saying that it tasted strongly of what he described as straight Windex. At first, I thought he might have been exaggerating, but he asked me to taste it--and unfortunately, he was absolutely right. The chicken had a very strong chemical/cleaning-product taste. Needless to say, we were both extremely concerned and disgusted. I immediately notified the waitress. Her response was simply, "I will tell the kitchen," with no apology, concern, or attempt to check on us. What made the situation even worse was that she then proceeded to charge us for the soup. I had to point out, "You're charging us for something that potentially had chemicals in it?" Her expression changed, she removed the item from the bill, and then walked away with what felt like a very dismissive attitude. I understand that mistakes can happen in a restaurant, but how they are handled matters just as much as the mistake itself. We expected at least an apology and some concern about what had happened, especially when a customer reports that their food tastes like a cleaning chemical. I normally tip very well, even when the food isn't great, as long as the service is good. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled left us extremely disappointed, and I did not leave a tip. It's unfortunate because we had enjoyed this restaurant in the past. After this experience, though, we may have to find a new Thai spot. Definitely another one checked off my list for now.
Other Thai sounds be red with envy over their red curry! The interior was well decorated and service was efficient for the most part. The place was freezing, bring a sweatshirt. They have a full bar, decent wine list. The curry had Japanese eggplant and bell peppers. Great flavor! Kho Soi was fantastic and to go packaging ensured the quality and experience r was maintained. The basil fried rice had great flavor and the veggies were well cooked. Stop by for a quick lunch pick up and linger over a romantic dinner. It was pretty full by 7.
I went to Hiso for lunch and had a great experience. I ordered the drunken noodles from the lunch menu with medium spice and a Thai tea. As someone who doesn't handle super spicy dishes well, the medium level had a nice little kick but still let all the flavors come through. The Thai tea was huge, but it was so delicious that finishing it wasn't a problem at all. The space is very cute and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout the visit. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when I'm craving Thai food again.
DoorDash: Pork grinds, papaya, fried rice, steak, green thai tea. Definitely will be ordering again and making it to dine in. This will be in my rotation of restaurants I will be supporting. More Lao restaurant please! No watering down our flavors.
I thought I had the best Thai food already until I tried this place. I was blown away!! I went here with friends and we were astounded with how much flavor each dish had. So far, the highlights were the beef Pad See Ew (mild spice), which had the perfect ratio of noodles to protein and veggies, and the Lao sausage with sticky rice. For simple dishes, the flavors were immense and addicting. As for the interior of the restaurant, I loved the ambiance. We walked in at around 6pm on a Saturday and I was suprised there was only one other table seated. It is a small place, but still spacious and enough room between each table. I can't believe I haven't discovered Hiso sooner and as much as I want to gatekeep this place, I can't stop recommending it. I can't wait to come back!
In a nutshell; Very cozy, yet fancy casual, great food and excellent service. Looking at it from the outside I wasnt really expecting how nice of a place it is inside. Not a lot of parking around, usual downtown sacramento Groans and pains, but looking pass that, youre greeted with a very nice ambience and vibe, server was awesome, the food is great, semi-fancy restaurant priced, but the deservingly so with how good the food is. Overall, an awesome establishment to try out!.
Cloudy early Thursday afternoon and a bit of chill in the air. Time for soup! My server was very pleasant, kind, and patient in explaining the soup offerings since there were none on the menu. I opted for the sweet and sour Tom Son version. The broth was a delightful and tangy sweet and sour broth filled with mushrooms and other vegetables and shrimp, squid, and scallops. I added some rice which balanced out the sourness if the soup perfectly! The squid was a bit chewy but the shrimp and scallops were good. The cherry tomatoes - red and gold - retained their yummy flavors and added to the fullness of the broth. Overall, a very delicious bowl! My only complaint - wish the music had been a bit lower. My server checked on me frequently and was attentive to me and all of her customers. A nice place to come to warm up and feel welcomed. read more
The Thai and Laotian food from here was pretty good! My family and I shared the following dishes: -Thai Green Tea: Huge size! The drink was creamy and flavorful. Not too heavy. -Lao Sausage:: Meaty and I liked the flavor. It went well with the side sauce. I wish it came with more sticky rice though. -Chicken Larb: This was solid and I liked the tangy flavor. Portion size is pretty small though and only came with one cup of lettuce. -Lao Papaya Salad: Solid, but I've had better elsewhere. -Salmon Pad Thai: My favorite dish of the night! The best part were the salmon bites which were glazed in the sweet pad Thai sauce and had a crispy exterior and soft interior. Super delicious. -Khao Piak: Warm, thick, tangy, and comforting bowl of noodle soup. Overall, I enjoyed everything despite the smaller portion sizes for some of the dishes. The service here was pretty good and the interior was clean and cozy. Parking is street parking. A solid restaurant for Asian food in Sacramento. read more

Had a great time at Hiso, another find from one of my fellow yelpies, you guys are on a roll! The pad see ew was incredible, so much flavor, highly recommend! Also the mango sticky rice was such a delicious way to end the night, creamy, sweet and so good with the coconut ice cream! Came back again with a couple friends and tried the: Chicken Pad Thai Laos Sausage Duck Larb Mango Sticky Rice Everything was absolutely delicious (as usual). One thing to note, there's no mild spice level here, you can go from no spice, to medium level spice and beyond. read more

Loved coming into this beautiful lunch/dinner spot the staff was super nice and helpful!! They have an incredible selection of draft beers, and the glasses they come in are literally so perfect !! You cannot leave without drying out the sticky eyes not only does it come in the cutest little container. It is absolutely delicious. read more
I popped in for an extra long lunch. This place is pretty cute. It would be a nice date night spot. The service is great too. I ordered the chicken and rice special. I love this preparation of chicken. The sauce we really nice and the consumè was lovely. The hibiscus iced tea was sweetened, and just ok. Definitely coming back to try other dishes! read more

I don't even know where to start. Visited this past weekend and everything was soooooo good. Fresh, flavorful, hot. Friendly staff and nice presentations! We ordered the pad see ew with pork, pad thai with chicken, yellow curry w/chicken, chicken wings, fresh shrimp rolls, Thai fried rice with beef, and their pumpkin yellow curry special. For dessert we had the mango sticky rice and Thai tea ice cream with roti. Can't wait to go back! read more
I'm from the Bay Area where there are tons of good Thai spots, so I wasn't expecting much when I was in Sacramento for the night and craving Thai food. We picked this place kind of randomly and it ended up being way better than expected. Honestly, probably one of the top 3 Thai places I've ever been to. We got the crispy chicken skin to start and it was delicious! Super crispy, really flavorful, and the sweet chili sauce on the side went perfectly with it. I could've easily eaten a couple more orders. We also tried the papaya salad. We asked for mild since my partner can't do spicy, but it was still really hot. I usually go for spicy and even I felt it. If you're sensitive to heat, definitely go with no spice and add chili on your own. The beef pad Thai was great too. A lot of places mess it up with weird noodles or it ends up looking too red and tasting off, but this one was perfect. Good texture and flavor without being too sweet or oily. The space is nice but it gets loud. There was a birthday party going on and they were super loud, so maybe not the best place for a quiet dinner. But the service was great. Super attentive and friendly. Overall, really impressed. I'd absolutely come back next time I'm in Sacramento. read more
Came here on a tuesday night. We ordered the crispy chicken skin yellow curry with chicken and chicken pineapple fried rice. I also had the hibiscus tea. Everything tasted very very good. This was a very yummy meal. The ambiance inside was very comfortable and relaxing.In fact, I don't think I have ever went to a restaurant that had more comfortable chairs. The christmas tree was also nice. Service hero is very attentive also. Our server was helpful, but not overbearing.She seemed to know exactly when we needed something.And when we didn't. Hiso is one of my favorite Thai restaurant in Sacramento. I make sure to always get their green Thai tea here because it comes in a big jug. Their tom kha is amazing. The ambience is super nice to have a date night, it's quiet, and have lovely decorations. Service could be a little slow as I've only ever see one server when I'm here, but they are super nice. read more

We came here on a Sunday right at 5pm. Service was cordial and timely. We ordered appetizers like Calamari and steamed pot stickers. They were great and we loved the calamari dipping sauce. The veggie spring rolls were fresh and vibrant. We the ordered shrimp pad thai, curry chicken crab fried rice and pineapple fried rice. Everything was 10/10 The crab fried rice and shrimp pad Thai was my absolute favorite. So much so we forgot to take pictures- lmao. A white wine bottle was our drink of choice for dinner. To finish off the mango sticky rice completed our meal. By the time we left the place was packed. Can't wait to go back!! read more
My friend recommended this place to me and it was pretty good! There is street parking around the establishment and the staff were friendly. I went to get Thai food but then got a Cambodian dish as I've never had that before. The noodles were good but a little bland. I tried their thai sticky rice and mango dessert but unfortunately it wasn't ripe. I'd like to return to try an actual thai dish next time since that's what was initally recommended. read more
Came here on a weekday with my coworkers. We had a party of eight and it wasn't too bad getting a table. The workers were very nice and welcoming. They even told us about the chefs special. It seemed like there was another party happening in the restaurant which made it super festive and exciting. The food was really good, especially the appetizers. First time trying Laotian food and I'm definitely going to be looking for more places closer to home! Free parking was a little difficult to find, there's only street parking and we ended up paying $4 for 2 hours. Vibe was cute, simple and modern -- we saw several couples on dates and girl hangouts. Seats are comfy with armrests and two bathrooms can be found in the back. ~~ What we ordered ~~ Laos papaya salad -- this was very pungent and also fishy. I really wished there was some more complexity to the flavor so I wouldn't feel so overwhelmed by the fishiness Truffle fries -- very heavy garlic and Parmesan but where was the truffle taste? Fries were lightly crispy Khao Piak -- so good! Noodles are made from tapioca and rice, which explains why they were so soft with a slight bounce. This soup was delicious and comforting with white and black pepper. My second favorite! Mee ground pork -- my favorite! So fresh and there's so much happening in terms of texture and taste, it's a party in your mouth. I wanted more of this! It's savory, a little sweet, and fresh. Pineapple curry -- this was pretty standard! I liked it but this paled in comparison to the other Laotian dishes. Pineapples did absorb the spice and I love, love bamboo shoots Basil rice with chicken -- lots of vegetables but also pretty good and standard! It was good, rice was well seasoned, with jalapeños sprinkled throughout Thai tea -- pretty good! The cup itself was huge but there's a good amount of ice. I wish I saw the green Thai tea before ordering this :') Our server was friendly and food came out quickly as well. I'll be saving and coming again if I ever happen to be in the area. read more

Only ordered the papaya salad here and boy was it disappointing. I think they used bottled sauce :( barely any tomatoes.. NO long beans!! Which are my fav in there. And barely any limes. No salted crab for how expensive it cost too! Didn't order anything else... not sure if I'll be back :( read more

This spot had amazing/authentic Lao and Thai food options! We ordered the HH chicken skins $8, drunken noodles, Lao-style papaya salad, panang chicken curry, & roti. Such good flavors, more that I want to try & friendly staff! read more
New Thai restaurant downtown. Street parking only. The Thai Green and Ice Tea were huge and good. The lobster Pad Thai was a bit overrated. I only ordered it after watching a Reel on Facebook. The crispy chicken skin and pork bowl were both 10 out of 10. The steak wasn't bad but, there was a huge piece of fat, which is probably what kept it tender and juicy. I have no complaints at all. We have been looking for a great Thai food place in Sacramento. This place is so cute on the inside. The food is amazing, fresh and comes out delicious. We tried a little of just about everything. Green Curry was delicious. The mango sticky rice was great. We had one with coconut ice cream and one without. Definitely recommend with ice cream. Gratuity for larger groups over 6 I believe. Derive was great, very attentive and ensured to clear plates as other plates arrived. Definitely recommend giving them a try. Came here on a Thursday for lunch. Arrived at 11:45 am and was seated right away. Clean and nicely decorated dining room. Food was tasty. Came out really fast after the 3 of us ordered our meal. Service was good. Pricing was fair. Would visit again. read more
