Eggs Benedict over spam And Milk Breas
    Janette P.

The food, the service, and the atmosphere were fantastic. Our first time there as we were visiting from San Jose. We arrived for brunch and we had the Chicken Katsu with tornado Egg, the Genki Style Moco Loco, and the Eggs Benedict with Spam on Milk Bread. Each of us enjoyed each breakfast item as well as the coffee. We are definitely coming back the next time we are in Sacramento. Would love to se a Genki Kitchen in San Jose!

Genki has a lot of potential to do well, although there is still some room for improvement. I really like their Hawaiian-Japanese fusion brunch concept and the menu is straight forward and simple. The Genki Benedict was served without the yuzu hollandaise sauce, which I didn't realize until after the fact. That was partly my fault for not bringing it up, so I didn't get the full experience of the dish. I'm sure it would've tasted even better with the sauce. The potatoes were also a bit cold. The butter, however, was nice and creamy. The Ika Geso was good, lightly battered and fried just the way I prefer and the sauce paired well with it. The Country Fried Katsu was also good, but again, the potatoes were cold. The Curry Chicken Katsu Don was probably the best dish. Overall, the prices are reasonable, the place is clean, and the staff was welcoming. I'd definitely give Genki another try, especially since the concept has a lot of potential.

Genki Kitchen is a unique brunch spot that serves up Japanese inspired brunch and lunch items. It's in a nice and cozy space that can get quite busy. I found the service to be excellent and friendly. The servers were quick as well. On my visit to Genki I had the opportunity to try the loco moco, udon, and tempura. The loco moco was good and came with a good amount of food. It was also presented nicely. They do the thing where it comes with the knife stabbed into the top of the food. There's also a pretty flower on the top that I think is just there for decoration. It's not necessary, but makes for a pretty photo. The best thing about the loco moco was the hamburger on the top. I found it to be of good quality and size - it's not one of those skinny fast food patties. The only thing I wasn't a fan of with the dish was the sauces, which I found to be a bit heavy handed and rich. Eventually all the rice was soggy. As for the udon, I personally found the broth to be much too sweet for my liking. It was an enormous bowl, but I couldn't get over the sweetness. My kid, who we gave some to really enjoyed it so I guess it's just a matter of taste. As for the tempura, I thought it was fine and did the job, but it didn't blow my mind. Genki Kitchen definitely has some unique and playful items. They are also only open for breakfast and lunch.

This place is a must try!!! Great place to have brunch. The loco moco is the best!! The service was good. This place get busy fast so come early.

Genki Loco Moco. Did not like.

Came on a Saturday for brunch. They weren't busy so we were seated after just a few minutes. I'm not sure why there are so many amazing reviews or maybe I just came on an off day but I thought the food was just okay and nothing special. Could use a little more flavor imo. I will also add that I asked for my eggs over easy but they came out as well done sunny side. Eck. Our food also took a looooong time to come out. They weren't even busy and I observed most of the other tables were also waiting a long time for their food. Again, not sure if I came on a bad day, but food took over 50min to come out. That is way too long. I think over time I may decide to try it again, but I do recommend not coming while already starved, especially not with hungry kids.

My husband and I stopped by for brunch and ordered the shrimp tempura ($14), loco moco ($23) and country fried katsu ($25). As soon as the shrimp tempura came out, it looked suspiciously like the frozen ones you buy from Costco. They weren't good and our server confirmed this was pre-packaged. We asked our server to please take it away. I ordered my loco moco with gravy on the side which they accommodated very graciously. The presentation was very beautiful and the hamburger steak was not dry with decent flavor. I found the tornado egg to be a little over done and the rice extremely dense. I'm assuming this tastes better when absolutely drowned in gravy. The white and regular gravy was very tasty but what gravy isn't? The katsu was perfectly breaded and fried. Probably best tasting out of what we ordered but the dish is extremely rich and heavy with gravy and overly buttered potatoes. This is a very Americanized take on Japanese cuisine - portions are generous and they don't hold back on the gravy and butter. Service was very friendly. Our server quietly removed the charge for the shrimp tempura which was much appreciated but I still feel charging $14 for frozen shrimp tempura is wack. I don't think the quality fits the high price point here and I won't be back.

A strong, solid 3. This place had some positives, but there are some areas in need of improvement. The food was really good (mostly). My wife got chicken and waffle. The waffle had a good texture and taste, as it had coconut inside. The chicken was well made karage...not my favorite style of fried chicken, but she liked it. We shared the French toast. It looked pretty, and had a subtle sweet taste. Nothing mind blowing, but a good rendition. I ordered the salmon skillet. It was good, but...weird. It was a huge mish mash of teriyaki salmon, rice, one giant singular scrambled egg (egg tornado), and a heavily dressed salad. The salmon was cooked well, but it was kind of hard to eat. The salad's dressing was very overpowering, unfortunately. Now then, the service. We were greeted by the "man of the house" (I'm assuming son of the owner, a boy of about 12. He out down his phone, and sat us. Family owned, I assume. One issue affected not just us, but the table next to us...and a big issue. When we were sat, the table next to us received their loco moco. However, his wife waited for her food....and waited. I thought they were sharing until her Benedict arrived My wife's chicken and waffle arrived, along with French toast...but my two eggs to go with the French toast, as well as my main course, did not arrive. After 10 minutes, the main course arrived...with my wife already starting to get full. When I reminded them about my missing two eggs, they arrived incorrectly cooked. Restaurants should learn that customers prefer the food served together...and eggs cooked correctly, especially for brunch. Nice enough restaurant, and if invited, I'd return, but especially for brunch, those two big misteps need to be addressed

The food is delicious and the environment aesthetics lovely with a delicate wood design for the ceiling. The okonomiyaki is a delicious brunch entree. The ginger topping perfected the dish too. I can't wait to have this again with some other delights too!

Delicious food, friendly service, modern chill vibes. We came here on a Saturday around 1p & they were very busy but it was worth the wait. We had a great time & plan to return.

We ordered Togo since Genki doesn't have a patio for Lil Lucie. Everyone knows I have to try every Loco Moco I see and Genki's looked fantastic. The scrambled aka Tornado eggs were light and fluffy. The rice was fresh and the patty was delicious. The white and brown gravies brought the dish home. I would definitely order this again. I guess because it was togo there weren't any green onions or spice on my order. The moco is $23 which is fair. The Unagi Skillet was underwhelming. Tornado eggs, rice and bbq eel. The dish needed a sauce to bring the ingredients together. The Unagi Skillet is $27 so we probably wouldn't order this again. Service was friendly and I will likely upgrade their rating when I can try more god dishes in the menu.

We came here for brunch around 11am, Saturday and it was packed already. We waited for about 5 mins for our table. The waiter came and took our drink orders and once he brought that, another person promptly came to take our order. It took a long time for us to receive our food, approx. an hour! We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. The best part of our meal was the geso (squid legs). The vegetable tempura wasn't that good and it did not come with tempura sauce. It tasted like soy sauce! The French toast was something less to be desired. The French toast I make at home tastes better. We also got the loco moco and it was very bland. Unfortunately we probably won't come back.

Oh so delicious! Family run business. We came on a weekend so their young son adorably and efficiently did the hosting duties seating guests. We ordered the Genki poutine, unagi skillet, and Genki Benedict. Everything was fantastic .. a bit of Japanese/Hawaiian fusion that was wonderfully flavored with generous portions. The house drip coffee actually had flavor! Hoorah!! We got the poutine with curry and it was the perfect combination of savory goodness. The unagi had several large pieces of unagi, sauce, fluffy tornado egg and rice. The Genki Benedict came with spam which I worried about being too salty was it was a well balanced dish. We cleaned all the plates! Service was quick and efficient. The staff is friendly and attentive. I loved this place and you will too! This spot is tucked away in a little strip mall with its own parking lot. We arrived around 9:30 ish and it was not problem finding a place to park. Let's keep this place in business for years to come

Came here with a group of 4 people on a Saturday morning. It's a small restaurant so there was a bit of a wait but it wasn't too long, about 15-20 minutes. The place is very cutely decorated inside. Trendy and vibrant but not overly stimulating. They offered everybody complementary tea or coffee. Must be a promotion they are running. The coffee was very good. Rich and bold. I'm a bit of a coffee snob and their coffee passed the test for restaurant coffee. They had oatmilk creamer which is kind of rare for a place that does not specialize in coffee. I was very impressed with that option. The food took awhile to come out. No big deal since I was happily sipping coffee and chatting but I could see some people were getting a bit impatient nearby. The Loco Moco was HUGE! My friend can eat but he couldn't finish it and had to take some home. I took a bite and it was very authentic. Came with two types of gravy, country and traditional. Beef patty was well seasoned and moist. The Unagi rice/egg dish was very satisfying. The egg was fluffy and the unagi was what I expected. I had this very similar dish at another local asian fusion breakfast restaurant in Sac and the other place was just a tad bit better. A dallop of roe would have brighten the dish up. The French Toast was just okay. Nothing to write home about. A dusting of powdered sugar would have made the dish more appealing to the eye. It was decent but pretty standard. Service was very friendly and attentive. Staff came by multiple times to check on us and refill our beverages.

I gotta say though, I was super impressed. Here's what I ordered: Truffle Hamachi Crudo Premium Nigri mix Power of E All of it was a lot of fun and tasty, except for the shrimp head, wifey didn't like that one, I kinda thought it tasted like chicharrones. Waitress was really nice, but I totally thought she was trolling me when I asked her "whats good/do you specialize in?" she goes "our fish". Brooooooo it's a sushi restaurant. I would hope your fish was good. To be fair...she was right their fish was good. When I go to spots like this I'll usually take the recommendation from the server even if it doesn't sound good. everything she pointed out though I was happy with. my only complaint I would say is that I cant stand it when restaurants use canned soda. Gimmie a soda machine or give me refills. 3 bucks for a soda while less than standard is still ultra harsh. That being said, holy shit. for the first time ever, I gotta report in on bathrooms. Like, this place is genius and I automatically hate all other restaurants for not having bathrooms like theirs. They have these amazing toilets.. the lids auto open and theres just so much more. They are well designed with no crazy nooks and crannies so you can tell they are easy to clean and they have bidets! I didn't use it but I gotta say, im just so happy knowing them folks are hygienic. if any of the staff ever reads this review, please comment back and tell me what the brand of toilet that is because I have to have one for my house. its amazing.

I think SacTown might operate on a slower schedule than I am used to, so 45 min won't be enough time if you decide to come here. Waitress was great and when I did tell her I needed to leave shortly after my meal was delivered, she closed me out promptly, so I appreciated that. She was also very pretty too, so naturally, I liked her. I am a sucker for good looking people haha. I didnt want to think too hard so I ordered the grilled saba (mackerel) lunch plate. It comes with miso soup, salad, white rice. Miso soup was good. Saba was good and I enjoyed most of it. Salad had a dressing that was a little too creamy for me, so I only had a few bites and there was lettuce, which freaked me out. There were a few shishito peppers and I devoured all of those. Overall, I really enjoyed having lunch here. The outdoor area is super nice and Id return to have another meal here. One star deducted because the parking situation is a bit problematic. I deducted another star because service was just a bit slow for me When I am back in SacTown, i'd come back to enjoy some of their sashimi and fresh seafood options.

It's clean and modern inside, with a nice open feel despite having a pretty large capacity for the size! One of my friends shared the mystery box ($60) and an order of the ocean trout and scallop nigiri which come 2 pieces to the order. All of the fish was fresh, generously portioned, and beautifully presented. My favorites are probably the ocean trout, the scallop, and the salmon. The mystery box with the edamame as n appetizer and 2 nigiri was definitely enough food, but since everything was so fresh and tasty we also got a superstar roll ($22) to share between the 3 of us -bthis was also super tasty and nice to have as it was a bit more flavorful than the sashimi alone in the mystery box (though we really enjoyed the pickled wasabi provided with the box). We kicked things off with a mix of plain and spicy edamame, followed by two orders of my husband's favorite shrimp tempura and three orders of my go-to rainbow roll. Everything came out fresh and beautifully presented. A particularly special moment--my 88-year-old father made the trip to Sacramento after seven years (his first visit since my mom passed) and he truly enjoyed the beef/salmon bento box. That alone made the night meaningful. We also ordered additional specialty rolls with unagi and shrimp tempura for the non-celiac guests, and for our main event, the table indulged in three large sashimi platters. The fish was impeccably fresh, artfully arranged over ice--this is where they consistently shine. To top it all off, the birthday girls (my sister and my nephew's girlfriend) were treated to complimentary desserts--cheesecake and panna cotta--which was such a thoughtful touch. The ladies paired the evening with glasses of Cabernet, another personal favorite. Overall, it was a memorable night filled with great food, attentive service, and special family moments. Takes me wAaaaay back! Salmon hand roll a win. Next our sushi rolls were very good and everything was fresh and as per usual we ate way too much. Favorite roll was the OMGF. They have reasonable prices and a clean bathroom. We always had our water glass full and taken care of. Great choice, close to our home and great service.

There is a designated parking lot across the street, so it's easy to grab a spot and walk over. Just be careful because the parking spots in the lot aren't well marked and it's easiest to just park neatly next to other cars. We like to sit at the bar if there's just two of us, and will grab a table when we have friends. If you want to make sure you have a table, you can make a reservation ahead of time, but we usually don't need to wait too long. Our favorites are the brussel sprouts, karaage chicken, and their nigiri. We also really enjoy the sukiyaki, it's really flavorful and perfect for cooler or rainy weather. We still need to come by for brunch, but we've heard good things. The team here is always friendly, and we've been in enough that some of them recognize us now.

We orderd the loco moco and breakfast fried rice with scrambled eggs. The eggs were deliciously scrambled. The fried rice was ok. The big concern was my burger patty was really burnt. The consistency and flavor of the gravy was interesting. We were the first visitors of the day so I'd say while it eventually filled up, not sure the reason behind burned food. Also, with a full bar, bloody marys were not available. Really unfortunate for brunches. However, I understand this is mainly a sushi joint? So maybe I will need to come back for sushi sometime.

Found this place on Yelp and since I haven't had sushi in a bit, this was the perfect pick. Pulled up and parked (which was pretty easy), the lot is small-ish maybe 20 spots or so. But today wasn't busy at all. We got in and sat at the bar. The AC was on blast which was lovely because outside was 100 degrees. There was 2 other tables, so it wasn't busy at all. It was happy hour which gave us $5 drafts and $2 Kumamoto oysters (6 piece minimum). The dry aged fish was on the specials board as well. Ordered: 6 oysters, dry aged tuna and dry aged salmon nigiri, Rainbow roll and Shima Aji Sashimi. Got the dry aged pieces first. Passed the smell test, no fishy smell at all. Bites were clean and tender. The salmon even had a bit of smokiness on it. Would definitely order again. Oysters and rainbow roll were also really good, solid all around. Asked the chef for a recommendation and he advised to try the Shima Aji (another board special). This go around we got this as sashimi. Another fresh and clean fish. Mild flavor with slight sweetness. We ordered pretty much everything through the chefs behind the bar and the service was solid. Needless to say this is a place I would come back to.

Salmon and yellowtail were both fresh and properly sliced, no sloppy thick cuts like some places. Intimate space, dim lighting, good for a date night, service was attentive and pointed me toward the right choices without being pushy. 5 stars, premium sushi in Midtown Sacramento that actually delivers on the promise

Our servers George and Tim were super helpful in explaining the menu and making recommendations for our first meal there. We chose a few of the small appetizer plates they recommended including the krispy rice, sake avocados crudo, and their seasonal corn fritters (not pictured because we were too hungry). They have a great grill menu with a wide variety of skewers to choose from. We were a tad overwhelmed by all the choices, so we played it safe and ordered the beginner set. We loved everything we tried in the set. The flavors are incredible, and I've never eaten anything quite like it. We'll definitely be back, but it will have to be more of an occasional thing than a regular thing as it is on the pricey side. The food is worth it though. You also get great service from knowledgeable and experienced staff, so that's certainly a perk as well!

Was good but not worth it 24$ at all Remember, we got the at 8:00 and we didn't get the skewers until 9:15 pm Yes! So by that time we had already eat the rice crisps and the noodles we order and were still wondering where was the skewers. So 9:15 we got the 1 skewers, and for the next 30 minute they kept bringing one by one By then we order another coke and of course the waiter bold guy forget the coke again and we had to ask different people again for our drinks Out water was never refilled and on top of that they charge us their 20% tip added to our check. Safe to say we won't go back and it's was big disappointment.

The mochi was incredibly soft and chewy, and each filling was perfectly proportioned, making every bite balanced, flavorful, and not overly sweet. My favorites were the Chunky Mochi (chunky peanut butter with mochi) and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mochi. The crunchy peanut pieces added a great textural contrast, making the Chunky Mochi even more satisfying. The combination of salty peanut butter and chocolate created a delicious sweet-and-savory flavor that I loved. We originally tried four different mochi and ended up going back for more. The cool little snow cone window had quite the crowd, but the wait was short. As someone who doesn't usually love cold desserts, I really enjoyed the Tiger's Blood flavor and the ice had a really nice texture. I appreciated this one and the serving size, especially because I recently learned it is indeed possible to mess up a snow cone, but I won't name names. There's also a little market inside. Sadly, no onigiri on Sundays, but I'll definitely be back to try some. My girlfriend got a mochi and loved it. Very charming spot!
