First time here, service was great! We had the spicy edamame, tuna to start both were very good. Sushi rolls we had Suki and Lor both were very tasty! The restaurant was clean, designed really nice and it was a great experience overall. They do take reservations if needed.

I was surprised to see a new sushi restaurant at this location that was previously Koi. I was curious to try it because we enjoyed Koi very much, especially the happy hour. They have transformed the interior with cushion seats lining the wall. Modern decor, one private tatami room and it looks like they replace the furniture. Dim lightning with romantic vibe. A nice place to take your first date! :-) OYSTERS - It was fresh with a nice presentation. The sauce was good and nicely incorporated with the oyster. CAMILA ROLL with shrimp tempura, scallop, lemon inside, topped with salmon and mayo. I don't see lemon inside the roll that often. It was a refreshing experience. UNAGI AVOCADO was average. The rice wasn't packed tight enough as grains of rice was falling off before the piece could reach my mouth. IKURA was also average. Not the best I had but wasn't bad. PARIS SASHIMI (16 pcs.) Pieces were cut on the thinner side but fresh. I was expecting to have more side stuff like sunomono salad or a bit more seaweed salad. It would also be helpful for the waitress to announce each type of fish. I had an idea what they are but my friend didn't. Also, this came at least an hour after we sat down. At one point, I wonder if they forgot it because it wasn't that busy when we got there. The waitress did apologize and offered us another bottle of hot sake or took off the one we had. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I think there is room for improvement. I hope to see that they will add special dishes or happy hour to the menu.

The food here is sooo good but the service is so bad. Honestly one of the best sushi spots in sac but I've been here twice now and the service is horrible. They only had a few tables tonight and our waitress not once came up to us to ask how the food was or to refill our drinks. She came by at the end to drop the check off and didn't even offer us a box. I had to get up and go to the sushi bar to ask for one. I really hope they train the wait staff or hire better ones as this place could be amazing if they do.

Wonderful ambiance with thoughtful touches. Fantastic service from beginning to end. Food was off the charts good. I got the 10pc omakase nigiri and was blown away by the quality and creativity of the food. Only place in Sac I know doing dry aged fish which adds so much depth and flavor.

WHAT WE GOT: The Lor, The Phoenix, The triple trouble and pepperfin. The Lor was my favorite! they top it off with this garlic chili oil alongside the tempura jalapeño it just makes the best combo. It also has asparagus in it which made me tilt my head a little but it went so well with the roll. The Triple trouble has lemon on it and added a good balance with the other rolls, a good palate cleanser! The Phoenix was my next favorite, it had a hint of cream cheese with the crunchy garlic oil it and the fried leeks!! so yum. Looking to come back and try other rolls. The pepper fin was good, nothing spectacular. I like my pepperfin fatty. This had more of a bite to it. AMBIANCE/SERVICE: They replaced my old sushi spot but it didn't disappoint. Service was a little slow but attentive servers. Only two servers, one more would definitely help! The restaurant has a nice romantic vibe. Spent about $85 in total which wasn't horrible, always willing to pay for good quality fish.

Cuter inside than I expected. Service was quick, food was tasty, and there's a parking lot. What more can you ask for!

Came here with my friend for dinner after driving by so many times. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful on the inside, lots of seating at the bar where the chefs prepare the food and there's tvs to watch sports (which we did for football Monday), booths, and tables too. It is a great spot for a date night or dinner with friends. The staff were super nice and friendly, the chefs were so great when it came to giving us recommendations and checking on how we were doing. We shared spicy edamame which has a decent level of spice from the chili powder they put. I ordered the Hinoka roll (recommended to me) and it was delicious! The food same quickly and was so good, will definitely be back to try more!

Two item bento with chicken katsu and mixed tempura was great!

Naoki is officially the new IT spot for Japanese! The husband and I enjoyed Koi (the previous Japanese restaurant that was at this location) and were saddened when they closed. Luckily, Naoki has filled this location and are dare I say, even better! The family and I popped in here for the husband's birthday lunch (father-in-law made a reservation for 11am but they were empty until about noon, then it got busy). The interior is gorgeous! Freshly renovated, tasteful, and clean. We all ordered bento boxes and were stuffed by the end of our meals. Bento lunch comes with the typical miso soup, rice, and salad. My two items were the chicken katsu and mixed tempura. The bento was great and delicious. We loved it! Highly recommend! We'll be back!

We stopped by for lunch during the work week, and got bento boxes. The quality of the food is really good, and everything was fresh. Service was quick and fast, the restaurant is a good size too. It's a bit more upscale than most of the casual sushi spots around this area, so for that I would return.

The rolls were all fresh and tasted good! We tried the triple trouble, OM, and spider rolls. liked the OM roll the best. I enjoyed the crispy fried burdock on top with a little bit of smoky flavor with the fish inside. The presentation of the rolls were very appealing. The tempura was very light and airy with the right amount of crisp.

I stopped by for lunch and got a bento with tempura and teriyaki beef. It was tasty and a lot of food. The meal started witb miso, which was nice on a cold day. The tempura did have more batter then I would have liked, but it was very freshly fried. The steak was a decent portion and not overdone. Salad a tad over dressed for my liking but it was nice to have a fresh side.

    Triple Trouble Roll

Our usual "go to" for sushi was booked on Saturday night so we decided to try Naoki. We ordered an appetizer and two rolls. The spicy edamame was fantastic; our rolls were the Hanoki and Triple Trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed the Hanoki, and while we also liked the Triple Trouble, we had never had sushi before with a lemon slices on top. We would definitely order the Hanoki again (not to mention the spicy edamame). Their wine list featured Revolution winery, which is only a block away. It was great to see them partner with a local winery. The restaurant's interior is very nice with comfortable chairs. Tables are spaced a ways apart so conversation is easy. Wait staff was very helpful and responsive. We definitely would visit again.

We very much enjoyed our dinner there a few days ago. They did a nice job with the remodel that now includes a tv viewing bar area. Really though, it's about the food. We ordered the NY nigiri, tempura moriwase and chicken karaage. All were outstanding! Service was on par and we enjoyed watching the AI server bring out the beverages. A great Monday night!

Came here for dinner a couple of times, the first time I ordered the rainbow roll ($15) which is my barometer for sushi at restaurants. Decently sized, the fish was fresh and the roll was filling. Daughter ordered the ramen ($18) with the red option, which she enjoyed with the plethora of toppings. Dinner the second time, I got the teishoku set with salmon ($21). Two decently filets of salmon came with rice, miso soup, salad, deep fried egg roll and salad. You also get a choice of either croquette or chawanmushi. The chawanmushi was a highlight for me! I missed eating this savory custard when I used to live in Japan. Their version did not disappoint! This has spot has become a rotating staple for me and am looking forward to trying out more of their sushi rolls.

Absolute perfection, no notes Mains: 18 piece Sashimi 10/10 - large slices, scallops were definitely the start- tho no higher rating due to no description on what was being served and slightly inconvenient design even though the presentation was pretty. Double Toro roll 8/10 - my date loved it, I'm just not a big roll fan Spicy scallop hand roll 9/10 - super delicious, scallops were fresh Unagi hand roll - 10/10 - I didn't even get to try it, my date loved it Tuna maki roll - 10/10 - simple, delicious We will definitely be coming back. I will say my only note is that we ordered the appetizers first and actually waited to order our mains in hopes that the appetizers would come out first. Instead my mains came out before the appetizers and then my dates came after the appetizers came out. Everything was delicious but I hope that isn't a common habit as it made the meal feel a bit rushed and the waitresses were commenting about how much we ordered and if we could eat it all... everyone was very nice though. A little cold in the actual restaurant but makes sense to keep the fish cold.

This time they sat us where all the chefs were making the dishes, so I finally saw how they make ngiri. There is 1 guy who makes it and I didn't like how he would make the ngiris but was not served asap. He would make about 3 sets at a time or some thing like that. The time from when it's made and time where it's served is too long. That is why the fish is warm by the time it got to us. Also, we didn't see a fridge where he was making it but it could be underneath around his leg area. I'm a little disappointed. From all the sushi documentary's I've watched, this is not how it's suppose to be. I regret ordering the Ngiri Mix again cause the fish was warm. Same like last time! I read other reviews where people have said the quality is going down. Even though, I am not a regular here, I can kinda tell that it is. Kru's ambiance is dark, chill environment with lights shining down on where it matters like the food and selfie pics lol. It can get loud when it get's busy. Mos def chiq and aesthically pleasing. Every little detail from the ceiling to the floor, table setting, mural, bathroom, and even menus were all BEAUTIFUL! SPECIAL SHOUT OUT: To all the resto staff that helped us for both nights. Apparently the security cameras weren't functioning as he wouldn't look at the footage. The manager wanted to charge the missing payment to the person who used a charge card for her payment and the group told him that was not acceptable. The dispute went on for 30 minutes and customers at a near by table kept turning around and looking at us. The manager stepped away again and returned shortly with the missing payment saying that he found it under the cash register! There was no true apology, no effort to compensate the group for the embarrassing behavior and accusations. Clearly it was the waitress' mistake and she didn't apologize to the group. This is unacceptable behavior from the manager. Knowing this happened yesterday, I will no longer dine at Akebono. Very poor customer service.

It's the kind of place that quietly becomes your favorite before you've even finished your first dish. ‍ Service That Feels Like Home From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, enthusiastic "Irrashaimase!" The hostess was exceptionally engaging--personable without being overbearing--and guided us through the sake menu like a seasoned sommelier of umami. Her thoughtful recommendations led us to a beautiful tasting journey featuring three types of sake: * A classic hot sake for comfort, * A crisp cold sake imported from Japan, and * A smooth and unexpected bottle from Vernon, CA (yes, Vernon--who knew?). Although the tall glasses were emblazoned with Orion Beer branding, we stuck to the sake. No regrets. What We Ate -- A Love Letter to Flavor Every dish was visually stunning and bursting with freshness. Here's what we devoured: * Truffle Hamachi Carpaccio: Thin slices of hamachi bathed in a rich truffle soy, topped with microgreens and salmon roe. Silky, aromatic, and sublime. * Shishito Peppers: Perfectly blistered and dusted with spice. A simple dish that delivered big on smoky flavor. * Sake Nigiri & Tobiko Gunkan: The sake (salmon) nigiri was melt-in-your-mouth fresh, and the tobiko gunkan had just the right briny pop. Clean, classic, perfect. * Negihama Roll: Yellowtail and scallion in delicate harmony--refreshing and elegant. * Spicy Tuna Roll: A fiery flavor bomb, dusted generously with shichimi. Spicy but well-balanced. * Jade Roll: Wrapped in seaweed salad and sesame, this one was fresh, crunchy, and full of herbaceous notes. A standout roll. * Cucumber Sunomono: A palate cleanser and a beautiful contrast to the richness of the fish. Light, crunchy, and seasoned just right with sesame. Ambiance Kumi Sushi's atmosphere is refined but intimate--dim lighting, soft jazz playing in the background, and warm wood tones throughout. It's got date-night vibes without trying too hard. Final Verdict Kumi Sushi is everything you want in a neighborhood sushi spot--just elevated. Thoughtful service, stunning presentation, fresh ingredients, and a sake list that deserves its own night. Whether you're a seasoned sushi snob or just looking for a delicious evening out, this place delivers. 11/10 would truffle hamachi myself into oblivion again. Highly recommended.
