I've stopped by kinjo before for a togo order and came by on a Friday night around 9pm to do the same as a quick little snack. When we went to place your order though, we were told pickup order wait time would be about 30 minutes - this probably should've prompted me to realize there would be no quick little snack tonight but I was a little too tired to think critically so we decided to dine in instead. It's pretty chilly inside with some minimal clean decor. I ordered the scallop hand roll, and then we proceeded to stay about 45 minutes before we got our hand rolls. They keep the nori on a little grill with the rice while prepping the protein, and I found that the nori ended up being just a little soggy instead of crisp by the time I ate it, and though the rice was warm the overall handroll experience actually was as enjoyable as the times I've gotten hand rolls to go before, where the nori stayed nice and fresh and crisp. The scallops themselves were nice but the sauce wasjt too flavorful and it ended up tasting a little watery overall and there was a lot of liquid that made it pretty messy to eat. The chefs did try to make up for the long wait - I believe he said he gave me a little extra scallop only hand roll, and my friend the more premium tuna instead of the one she had ordered, but overall I think I'll stick to coming here to pick up a togo hand roll or two when I'm craving a light meal or snack - and is stick to the ocean spring handroll next time which I think has a better balance of sauce, fish and rice.

The outdoor seating area was pretty cute :) the staff were nice & the food was tasty but for the price, the portions were veeery tiny. It was probably the smallest little ramen bowl I've ever ordered anywhere for the same price it would be anywhere else. The croquettes were 4 per each tiny croquette and the hand rolls (3 pictured) were each about $9 (bite sized at about 1x3").

Have you ever seen a hand roll like this dear readers??!!

Who knew how much fun and tasty hand rolls can be? We loved everything about this place from the atmosphere, service, menu selection, prices and of course the food. The rolls are creative, and so many to choose from. Lots of fish and less rice equals more flavor and taste. Don't be shy about asking for recommendations. The rolls are modest in size and price so plan to order three to four. The peppers are a must. Enjoy!

pork ramen - egg is perfection

This place is fantastic! And, we fed our family of 3 for about the same price we'd spend over at Kura Sushi if holding back a bit, and the quality of the fish and food is so much better here. The handrolls are simple, but very well made. They use a more premium nori and lightly toast it before wrapping the hand rolls, which gives a better and almost sweet flavor to the nori. The fish is very fresh and tasty. We enjoyed the bluefin tuna, ora king salmon, snow crab, yellowtail, and I forgot what else. My little daughter ate the pork ramen and I enjoyed that it didn't taste as salty as other places. They also brought out the ramen at a temperature my daughter could eat right away without waiting for it to cool (or worse, putting ice into the broth). I didn't even ask for this and I really appreciated it. The EGG, oh my goodness the egg was perfection. I recommend the fish taco trio if they have it!! I had the creamy salmon (OH YUM), bluefin tuna poke, and the yellowtail. They use a fried wonton as the shell. Different toppings depending on the fish you choose. The bluefin tuna was fantastic. Service was also amazing. Forgot to get the name of our server, but she was really great and friendly, super accommodating and knowledgeable about the restaurant and the menu. I almost don't want to rave about this place because when we went, they weren't too busy, so we were able to sprawl out over two tables (met with friends who have a little baby).

I've been to Kinjo Hand Roll Bar a few times, and in the past I've really enjoyed it, which is why I kept coming back. Unfortunately, my last couple of visits weren't the best. We brought friends who were visiting from out of town because we wanted to show them a good spot, but we ended up finding hair in multiple dishes. It was really disappointing and honestly pretty uncomfortable. We didn't make a big deal out of it since we didn't want to ruin the night for our guests, but it definitely affected the experience. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is nice, but consistency and cleanliness are really important, especially for a place serving raw fish. I'm hoping this was just an off day or two, because I used to really enjoy coming here, but it makes me hesitant to return.

Bluefin and salmon (special) sashimi

I sat outside and had a very delicious lunch The sashimi was a fantastic start--I got the bluefin and salmon special. Both were incredibly fresh and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, especially with the thoughtful little condiments they came with. While both were amazing, the bluefin was my personal favorite. But the real star of the show? The A5 Wagyu hand roll. Seriously, this thing was next-level. Juicy, fatty, and just a perfect bite of heaven. If I had unlimited funds, I would have ordered about sixteen of these. I'm not a big fan of seaweed paper, but the Wagyu and rice alone were worth every penny. The gyoza were also a decent add-on--perfectly crispy with a savory filling, even though the sauce wasn't my favorite. To drink, I had the refreshing citrus canned cocktail, which paired perfectly with the meal. Beyond the incredible food, the service was truly fantastic. As someone who's not a regular sashimi eater, our server was so patient and helpful in guiding me through the menu. I can't recommend this place enough!

A delicious and fresh hand roll spot near downtown Sacramento! Came here for the first time on a casual Wednesday - so the restaurant wasn't terribly busy. We were seated right away and given some menus. I will say, there isn't a crazy amount of variety on the menu - so if you come here, you come here for the hand rolls. But what a great reason to come! The rolls are a bit pricy but the fish in them are SO fresh and delicious. There are a few bundle options that ease the price a little bit, but keep in mind there are no substitutions. We had also ordered some other things to supplement our hand rolls- takoyaki and the pork belly fries. Both were SO good. The takoyaki balls were quite large and had nice crunch on the outside with soft tako and filling on the inside. In other words, everything I would ever want in a takoyaki. The sauce on the pork belly fries was simply perfect and the pork belly itself was crispy. My only complaint is that the restaurant is so small that sounds and conversations from other tables are easy to hear and it can get a little noisy. Not the restaurant's fault, but at the time of my dining, there was one table that was particularly loud and their noise filled the whole restaurant. There were many times where it felt like I really needed to raise my voice to talk to the people at my table or I had to ask them to repeat what they said.

The handrolls here are amazing, perfectly seasoned, crunchy seaweed wrap, and creamy from the sauce they layer on the fish. I've been here for both dine in and take out. Dine in is for sure a tight spot, very small but it's cozy. Take out is still fresh, but the packaging of the hand roll is a bit confusing if you don't know how to work it lol. It can get pretty expensive here, around $9 for each hand roll, i paid $39 for 4 of them. Workers are great though! They make sure each hand roll is perfected and fresh and they include sauces and wasabi.

My siblings and I usually get together on Sundays for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. A few Sundays ago, we decided to go to Kinjo Hand Roll Bar. I'm so glad we did, because everything we ordered was so good! The service was also quick and friendly. Our server even shared her favorites with us. We started with the pork belly fries, shrimp tempura, and croquette. All were delicious! I liked the fries more than I expected. Then we each ordered a few hand rolls. We all had the A5 Wagyu. It is a must in my opinion. Some ordered a special with duck. They liked it but said it could use more duck than other filling. I ordered the Lion King and Tuna Tataki. Both were delicious! I also tried some of my sister's Ocean Spring. It was also very good. After all that, we still had room for dessert. We ordered the fried ice cream and crepe cake. Both were yummy. I can't wait to go back to try more small plates and hand rolls!

i got their 5 hand roll special. I loved the toro. the restaurant is small so it's an intimate experience with the chefs When I went there was 2 parties. Service is great. I like that this place waits until you're ready to eat your next roll so the seaweed doesn't go soggy.

Tiny but Mighty [Sacramento CA] My daughter introduced me to this restaurant located in Midtown Sac. Small and cozy inside with table and bar seating. We were greeted immediately and led to a table. The menus handed to us had a separate menu for bento lunch box option (M-F)... we came on a Saturday, then we were told that they now serve them every day. Daughter ordered the 3 Hand Roll set which came with Spicy Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. She struggled a little bit eating the yellowtail because the shiso leaf at the bottom made it a little difficult to bite. I chose one of the bento boxes -- Salmon Teriyaki. The bento box was cute and perfect serving for me. Literally cute which included gyoza. Everything was good and delicious! So glad to try out this place. Customer service was great and our waitress was very friendly. Street parking only. Review #3725

Food: fresh fish, generous ratio of fish to sushi rice and more substantial than typical hand rolls Service: we ate at the sushi bar and the sushi chef was friendly, engaging, hand recommendations to offer. Ambiance: great neighborhood spot, small inside, industrial feel as all black interior.

Really loved this place. The sushi chefs were helpful and friendly. It was a nice atmosphere and nice and quaint. I really loved the salmon hand roll, and the spicey tuna one. My friend got the set of 5, she's come here 3 times and always loves going. I'm glad i tried this place and look forward to coming again!

Ask the Community - Kinjo Hand Roll Bar

Are there reservations or first come first serve?

Hello! Currently we only take reservations for our outside patio, which can accommodate larger parties. Inside is a bit small, so it is first come first serve with a wait list if necessary.

Can we bring our own beer?

Spoke to a worker there and she said YES! YAAAY!!!

I walked inside having no idea that it was going to be a top quality experience. The restaurant was huge and it was packed at 5 PM. We couldn't get a table so we sat at the sushi bar, and there was plenty of room there. Plus watching all of the chefs put together the Omakase offerings was really cool. We opted for the Japanese cauliflower curried soup, the black cod special, the king Roll, the watermelon and mint salad and the shrimp and corn dumpling. Every single dish was FIRE!!! The flavors were delicate and nuanced and perfectly balanced. Even the frisée lettuce on the watermelon and mint salad was a flavor explosion. We found ourselves drinking the sauce out of the bowl from the shrimp and corn dumpling. The croutons in the curried cauliflower soup were crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside. The black cod was the texture of a scallop and the squash purée set it off just right. The king Roll was a marvel to see and absolutely a delight to eat. I loved that little hint of lemon that accented the crab and lobster flavors. 1000% recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys really damn good food. Craziest part of the meal was the cost, it was incredibly reasonably priced, not overpriced, like most restaurants of this caliber. We will definitely be back. Thank you Kru for making my special occasion even more special!
