Sucks to write this review as this used to be my go to spot for lunch. It's taken me a while to get to this review but I had to give others a heads up. I would often come around noon during the week, and order the Thai chicken bento box. Unfortunately one of the days I came, I found a fingernail in the California roll. Bit into the roll, and the fingernail as well. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Immediately lost my appetite and wanted to throw up. I flagged my server down (all the employees here are super nice), and showed her the fingernail. She took it to the back and reported it to a manager or supervisor I suppose. When she came back she told me that their California rolls are pre-made, so if you're ordering these rolls BE CAREFUL. She offered to remake the bento box to which I shared no. I asked for my tab and when she came back she said it was on the house and did not ask me to pay (nice gesture, but I mean when you find a whole fingernail in your food, that's the least that can be done). Safe to save, I have not gone back since then and probably won't. If I did, I'm definitely staying far away from the California roll. This happened to me last year, so hoping some changes in their hygiene and making of California rolls have been made since then.
Our first time going since it changed to Makisu Sushi. Everything inside was as I remembered. They had a movie playing on one TV and the World Series on another. We were greeted when we walked in and seated immediately. We ordered drinks and took our time looking over the menu. I ordered my go-to BBQ Albacore Tuna and a side of white steamed rice. Their BBQ Albacore was absolute perfection! It's lightly seared and melts in your mouth. And I'm used to it being served with a creamy sauce, so I was pleasantly surprised with their sauce! I'll definitely be back soon!!!! 10/10
Was planning on getting Chinese food next door, but saw the menu on the outside and it caught my attention.... Seemed a lot more affordable as well, so I thought that I'd give it a try. Glad I did. I had the their special which included the teriyaki chicken and the sushi. There was plenty of food. The chicken could have had more taste to it, but I'm not complaining because of the price. The sushi was pretty good.
The service was Outstanding.. Food was exceptional, perfect and delicious.. my 96 year old Mother even tried sashimi for the first time and she was so very impressed... thank you for just being there!!!!!
Came to Makisu Sushi for the first time for dinner with friends, after ine of then recently got into sushi. And was said to be one of their favorite spots in the area now. It took my girlfriend and I a little bit to find something to order, since there were so many options. I tend to favor deep friend and or spicy rolls, so I started there first but the sushi roll "favorites" section was really helpful. Since they all had pictures along with the description. My friends ordered 5 different rolls that I don't know the names of, and two were deep fried. My girlfriend and I ordered the following: Drinks Green tea Appetizers Spicy Edamame Rolls 10. Brenda's Favorite 17. Danielle's Special In total we ordered 7 different rolls, and I tried probably 5/7. The deep rolls were good, and so was my Danielle's Speciall roll and my girlfriends Brenda's favorite roll. I also really enjoyed the spicy Edamame as well. Our waitress was really noce amd friendly and entertained my friend's young daughter who joined us for dinner. The only "hiccup" or minor delay was our aroumd our 2nd order of green tea. My girlfriend ordered some when we initially at our drinks orders taken, and a few minutes later my friend decided to get some ad well. But the 2nd order took a while to receive, and we had to ask about it again at one point. Once we received the 2nd glass, we opted to just get the tea kettle to self serve since it made the most practical sense for refills. Overall: Food was good, staff was friendly, and ordered was reasonably priced.
Have been here a few times thanks to a friend of mine for suggesting it. Each time I've been the food has been really good and the service too. The sushi is tasty, love the wakame salad, and the gyoza is good either steamed or fried. The spicy edamame is also really good, it's a balanced flavor of spicy and sweet. The restaurant is a nice size with lots of booths to sit in. Lots of parking and in a convenient location. Want to come back to try some new items.
You get what you pay for. A little disappointed by this place, 4-star, 500+ reviews and yet I left feeling that I could spent my time and money elsewhere. Came here for a quick dinner with the family, simple items, things we wrongfully assumed were safe bets. Upon walking in, was immediately struck by the lack of any decorations -- a precursor to the blandness of our food (more to come). Beef Udon, Lemon Salmon Roll and a Lion King Roll. Everything was average at best. The two rolls were very basic, the fish didn't taste fresh and even at the 50% off price I didn't feel they were worth it. The Lion King roll specifically, didn't give off the impression that it was "baked in the oven". My wife got the Beef Udon, soup was bland, beef was tough/rubbery and overall the bowl just lacked flavor. Service wise, even that was just okay -- the waitress was nice but seeing as the restaurant wasn't that busy, she could have come to check on us a little bit more. Quick comment on the wait for our food too, Beef Udon came out fairly quickly but then we had to wait another 15 minutes for the rolls to come out. Not sure what took so long, seeing as it wasn't that busy when we were there. Overall, pretty disappointed in this place -- I think the 2-star rating is generous. Don't think we'll be returning.

Visited Sac State and wanted to try a new resto. This sushi spot hit my radar as it was on the way home. When in the parking lot, I saw a sign for a drive-thru for order pick up. First impression - this resto already a win before entering. The establishment is def on the older side, yet it worked for the casual dining style. I was immediately seated for a table of 2. I was quite surprised how busy it was - the environment added to the positive experience. You could hear staff engaging with customers - just a good vibe. Service was great. Didn't have to wait long for the server to take our order, and the food came out in good time. The frequent check ins were timed nicely - especially for the water refills. I drink a lot of water and didn't have to once ask cause the server kept a good eye on cup levels. I ordered the salmon, tuna and hamachi sashimi. It came with miso soup and rice. I also ordered the Fire roll. I enjoyed my order. The sashimi was a decent thickness, fresh, and chilled. Other spots Ive been too give room temp, so this was nice to receive. The salmon was my favorite - it was fatty, buttery. At first glance of the Fire roll (no picture in menu) I was expecting a bigger roll but given the simplicity of the ingredients, size didn't matter. It was perfect! The jalapeño and sriracha was the perfect kick. Devoured everything. My friend ordered a rice-less roll. Forgot the name but presentation was nice so I took a pic. I enjoyed the experience and the fresh fish. I would consider the is spot again if I'm in the area.

My fave sushi place on fair Oaks Boulevard. Always fresh always delicious and a very good value . My favorite, which is in the attached photo is the Sushi and sashimi combination with a California roll so I get four pieces of sashimi five Nigiri and a California roll. Always delicious!
Had an amazing time with some friends here. The waitress was so nice, I am sad that I forgot her name. The sushi was awesome and yummy, great for the price. Will be coming again!
We came here last night for dinner. We wanted sushi, and we've decided... let's try a new place! Friendly service and nice presentation. The only complaint we had was the size of their rolls. They do charge steep for sushi, but at least they could increase the size a bit to make it worth my money. The rolls were good, fresh.
This place needs more attention! It has alway been one of my go to spots here in Sacramento. Staff is always friendly and the food is superior to sushi hook. Great rice to protein ratio. Right now they are doing construction so getting there can be a pain but we'll worth. Every single roll here has been on point and made with love. I recommend everyone and there baby mommas to come here. A nice place for a date night or to escape for a solo meal. Come on in, come often and eat plenty. You will not be disappointed. Used to be a decent spot, but something has changed at Mikasu. I came here for lunch today and the experience was highly disappointing. First, they might be understaffed (one server, one sushi chef, maybe one in back kitchen) making food service slow. The waitress tried her best, but she was clearly left on her own to wait on the sushi chef. However, the communication was lacking; when asked about a tiny portion size for the seaweed salad, she didn't really know how to respond and just gave a dismissive answer. I just wanted to know if it was meant for two or a single side. It looked smaller than normal. The food execution was also off--our salmon skin hand rolls were served sitting in a sticky sauce, making it awkward to pick up and leaving our hands a mess (I thought hand rolls were supposed to be dry on the outside wrapping) The biggest red flag was the bill. Every single a la carte item we ordered was priced 25+ cents higher on the receipt than what was printed on the menu. When questioned if the menu prices went up, the waitress seemed completely uninformed and claimed the owner includes tax in the item price--yet regular tax was still added to the final total anyway. They also charge extra for using a card. The math doesn't add up (or it's just plain confusing), the food service is slow, and management isn't giving their staff the information or support they need. I'd recommend double-checking your bill if you eat here. read more

Sacramento has a lot of sushi spots, and this is a decent one. I've never heard of it, but apparently a lot of people know about it. We went as a group and decided on just getting a sushi boat. It was a great mix of rolls. There were some that were deep fried, baked and regular. It was yummy and very presentable. It wasn't busy when I was there but the service was excellent and the waitress was very attentive to us. It's the not the best sushi ever, but it was still very delicious and the prices were fair. read more

Decided to give this spot a try after seeing its decent reviews, and it did not disappoint! The rolls were cohesive and the ingredients tasted high-quality. A few rolls came with a small dish of daicon in dry ice, which added a unique, elevated touch to the overall dish. Compared to some other spots with similar quality rolls, I would choose to return to this spot! Glad I gave it a try, and would recommend others do the same! read more

Another hit for Makish Sushi! I love this spot, their service is always great with excellent servers that know their menu well. We went on another hot day for udon and I even got my boyfriend to eat a whole roll of his choosing this time. He's not a big sushi fan but said that the Crispy Crème is his new favorite. read more
Ambience was cool, it is typical restaurant and lots of seating areas. 4/5 Staff was friendly and attentive. 5/5 Food was good ordered sushi rolls. They were all good, flavorful, thick and yummy.worth it We will definitely try different kind of sushi here again. read more

First time trying Makisu Sushi after going rafting and it satisfied! We got takeout since we just wanted to go home after a long day. We ordered at the restaurant and it took about 20 minutes to have the food ready. We ordered majority off the 50% off menu, if not all all the rolls were from this part of the menu. We got crazy horse, half and half, king spider, lemon salmon, and Philly. My favorite out of the bunch was the lemon salmon. It was the right amount of zest and freshness. I liked how it didn't have a lot of sauce either compared to the other rolls, so it was a nice contrast. The other rolls were good too! I do think sometimes with rolls, they can get lost in the sauce and they start tasting all the same. I wouldn't mind coming again and actually dining in! read more
It was our first time at Makisu, and from the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming. The restaurant was clean and the staff was kind. My mother ordered her favorite, the pepper fins, and was impressed by how fresh and thinly sliced the sushi was, making it easy to enjoy. She also noticed that the tuna might have been seared with a blowtorch, a classic Japanese technique that added a perfect touch. I had the mixed tempura and the Baked Bay Island rolls with shrimp tempura, and they did not disappoint. Overall, Makisu was a fantastic place to try, and we'll definitely be returning soon. read more

I think this hits the spot if you're craving sushi but not in the mood to go out to a sit down restaurant. I love that they have a drive up window for pickup orders so you don't even have to go in, I pulled up and they handed me my order right away. The sushi was good, I wouldn't say the best quality however they have a large menu with a ton of options which is nice. I think this is a great option for how convenient it is. read more
The most important thing about a sushi place is that they use fresh fish and Makisu did just that. Fish was fresh and tasty. It wasn't overpowered with sauces. They had a menu of 50% off rolls even on a Saturday night. It had a great selection and both we had were tasty. The star of the show was the Brenda roll. It was named after our wonderful server. If I had one complaint was the decor or lack of decor. From outside, it looked like an old fast food joint. Inside was sparse but clean. It had a definite 'hole in the wall vibe'. Hole in the walls are usually good and Makisu was. My fiancée and I will be back. read more

I ate half the roll and got to the other side and found hair. I like this establishment and the owner, very nice, but this is unacceptable. Hair in my food? I'm sorry your chefs are letting you down! God bless. read more

To start of I would get the Jalapeño poppers ..also would get a couple sake bombs of course 😊..then will end it with one of my fav rolls the spicy 🌶 crab 🦀 roll with soy wrap because I don’t really like sea weed 👍🏽..but to be honest everything…
