Came here for lunch and wasn't quite sure what to expect, but overall it just didn't hit for me. When I walked through the buffet line, a good number of the trays were empty and it took a while for staff to refill them with fresh food. It made the selection feel limited during my visit. In terms of taste, much of the food reminded me of standard cafeteria-style dishes -- filling, but nothing particularly memorable. I was also disappointed that seafood wasn't being served around the time I came (around 2:00 PM), especially since reviews suggest that's one of their stronger offerings. The restaurant itself appeared on the smaller side. The ambiance gave me more of a casual, neighborhood home town buffet vibe. Based on this experience, I'm not sure I'd return, but it may be worth trying during a busier service time when more items are fully stocked and seafood is available.

Very impressed by this Chinese buffet. The cost is about $28 per person, for full buffet enjoyment and drink, includes the tax. I went in hoping to like at least 50% of the items I tried, but I actually really enjoyed the majority of their buffet menu! It's not a huge buffet, but they have a lot of variety and the food is very flavorful. The items that stand out are the honey walnut shrimp, the green beans, the sushi with the cream cheese, the garlic shrimp, and I would say the hot sour soup! But there's a lot I didn't get to try (this is despite getting up a total of maybe 4 time to get more food). The restaurant itself was pretty busy, definitely a family-friendly vibe, I'd say the staff was friendly and quick to remove used plates from our tables. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of 5 is because the floor wasn't as clean as I think it should have been, I saw scraps of garbage and food in very visible areas but the employees didn't pick it up during my time there. This won't deter me from going again though :)

I came over on a Saturday at noon, and they weren't that busy. I was surprised. On the weekend, it's the dinner menu all day long, and it's about $27 and change after tax, which includes your drink, and that's not bad. They do offer a senior discount if you are over 65. It is a smaller buffet, but they did have lots of choices. They had a salad bar, a decent sized, dessert bar, a good sushi section, and a Mongolian BBQ/hibachi station. They had. American choices, such as french fries, fried chicken, pizza. And your normal Chinese choices like broccoli, beef, pepper, beef, etc.... They also have a few dim sum selections. I tried the siu mai, and it was OK, but nothing spectacular. They had three different soups. I tried the tamarind soup, but to me, it was a bit too sour. I know that that's the nature of tamarind, but I thought they would "zhuzh it up", to make it a little bit more savory. In fitting with the name of the restaurant, they had a lot of seafood. Fresh crab legs. Fried crab, "Crab" and cheese, which is actually a fish called surimi. You will often see it called " Krab." They had oysters on the half shell, and they had stuffed oysters. They had crawdads, And they even had snails! The snails were very good, but they were pretty spicy, and I wish they would've marked that the way they marked that the crawdads were spicy. I didn't go for the crawdads. They had baked salmon They had shrimp several ways, including peel and eat, fried shrimp, and coconut shrimp, which I absolutely love. Apparently the peel and eat shrimp and the fried shrimp were not deveined, I know that's not a big deal, I'm just not a fan of eating "shrimp poop." Overall, I thought it was a good meal. I would like to come back at lunchtime sometime, to see what the difference in the menu is. Lunchtime the price is less. Thanks.

It was a 10/10 for me! Now, this isn't The Bacchanal but it definitely hit the spot! I wanted a Chinese buffet and this was exactly what I needed. I thoroughly enjoyed the chilled snow crab legs. The meat was sweet and plump. The raw oysters were fresh and clean! Captain has a variety of Chinese dishes like the fried rice, chow mein, honey walnut shrimp and dim sum. 10/10 They had Japanese food like an array of sushi rolls, sashimi and baked giant oysters. Bomb! My other favorite dishes were the crawfish, fried blue crabs, fried salt & pepper shrimp and the corn. They also had sinigang soup for the Filipinos out there. All in all, I'd definitely come back again. They're very clean here and constantly wiping, cleaning and replenishing items.

The price was phenomenal! For my husband and I with drinks under $55 Lots of variety. The muscles were good Not a fan of trying to get crab out but honestly it taste great. Did you know they have a Mongolia bar as well. You can't add your sauces but be careful when asked if you want hot. Hubby said his was too spicy hot and he loves spicy. 4-5 You go right in get your seat. Quickly. Big establishment open floor plan. Options for kids etc. Did not like the crab cheese thing. I did not try the soups. Shrimp cooked was 5-5 Service 4-5 They didn't clear the table right away. I do believe they were busy in the back. Please take cash to leave a tip on table. They do have you sign credit card etc. Value wise etc. 4-5 super happy this place is here! Will be back

Took over the Cracker Barrel that used to be here. AYCE buffet that is Asian fusion. There's options such as sushi, hibachi, pizza, shrimp, and more. Pricing here is very reasonable. I came here during lunch but would come back for dinner to see the other options.

Kind of annoyed. We came in at 11:30, the TV for the menu prices were NOT on. I paid 61.40 for two people and was kind of confused as online it says 23.99. AFTER i asked about it, she said "oh the prices are actually 26.99 theres nothing i can do about it." Then turned the tv on to show the prices. We sat down and ate anyways and it was okay. The rice, cheese muscles and egg drop soup were actually pretty good. Had a hard time opening the crab legs though. They were a bit over cooked:(

Trish R.

Celebrated my Uncle's birthday and he said he wanted to go to a buffet in town and of course I'm going to accommodate. Saw this place was new and just opened, taking over where Cracker and Barrel was. Upon entering the place was clean. Still brand new vibes. We paid and then sat down. The food was okay for the most part but it's a buffet so don't expect too much. Avoid the oysters at all cost. All in all, this was a good one time experience. I say come to the grand opening and find out for yourself.

Dirty dishes being placed out..

If you've ever wondered what disappointment tastes like, Captain Buffet in Sacramento offers a full, all-you-can-eat serving. At first glance, the buffet looks promising -- a wide selection of dishes neatly lined up, almost convincing you that you're in for a treat. Then you actually taste the food. The sushi has a unique dryness that could only be achieved by hours of patient neglect, and the fried items somehow manage to be both soggy and overcooked at the same time -- an impressive feat, really. The hot dishes are lukewarm, which is perfect if you enjoy playing "Guess How Long This Has Been Sitting Here." Even the fried rice and lo mein, which are usually safe bets at buffets, were oddly bland, as if someone had gone out of their way to remove every trace of flavor. Dessert? Well, the cakes tasted like they came from a freezer, which I suppose they probably did. The fruit wasn't bad... if you didn't mind it looking tired. On the plus side, the staff was polite, though they seemed just as underwhelmed by the food as I was. For the price, I'd hoped for at least one dish worth going back for. Unfortunately, Captain Buffet will not be getting a second visit from me -- once was more than enough.

I really want to give this place a chance. I met up with some friends for dinner. You pay when you first get in. There is 5% service charge added to the check. The drinks are included. They have Pepsi but no coke. I opted for their unsweetened ice tea. This place seems to have a variety of food choices. I was trying to avoid the seafood just in case. They have sushi and a lot of staple Chinese dishes, coconut shrimp, Beijing beef, kung pao chicken, etc. Everything felt very salty to me. Surprisingly, their homemade pizza was good. The staff was nice, and I saw them restocking food and dishes. They have an ice cream freezer, which includes little cups of ice cream; some are fat free but not sugar free. Overall, probably not worth the dinner price. Lunch prices seems more fair.

Sheila C.

It's the old Cracker Barrel now it's the Buffett they have a large variety of good plenty of seating. To fix your own plate and find your own seat also you pay first. The only problem for me was the shrimp for the salad bar you had to peel and they weren't clean that's a no no for me but overall good place we will come back when in the Sacramento area.

Whether it is sushi or common Chinese dishes or even Mongolian barbeque, this place has it and all hotly cooked. You can definitely tell none of the food was frozen and reheated, but cooked in the back woks. The turnover in food helps to keep things fresher even if the quality isn't the best. I particularly like the hot Chinese dishes, the pork chops, teriyaki chicken, grilled chicken, stir fry veggies, broccoli beef, and some of them dim sum items like the siu mai and baos are pretty good even if not gourmet. The Mongolian BBQ is fresh and hot, my kids like to make their own creations and I usually get a plate there too. The sushi is pretty basic stuff, but they get creative, there was a mango topped one that's new today and it was pretty good. Their usual ones are good too. I like that there's a vast array of meat dishes here especially. Seating can easily accommodate a large party and multiple servers are always available to help. They are quite quick to take away used plates and silverware, and they wipe down tables fast too. They are friendly and will refill your drinks quickly too. Not fancy at all, very casual, but still they have kept this place up except for the dingy carpet. Prices are reasonable and there's senior discount of 10% and only kids 11 and over are considered adults. All in all, not anything special here, but there's freshness and variety, and it's a place where everyone can get what they want so no one should have to complain.

So glad they opened a Seapot in Sac so I can get my fix without going to the Bay Area now :) Came on a Saturday at 6pm for a party of 2 noting 30min wait on the Yelp waitlist but actually no one was waiting much in the front when we got in to checkin and we got seated right away (maybe people starting to add names to the waitlist for 7pm!). Opted for hotpot only which is imo my go-to here, but appreciate that the sauce/salad bar has some Chinese sides / Korean banchan to cut through the meat (e.g. seaweed salad, pickled radish, korean fishcake, pretty good cold marinated pigs ears). Fried sides at the bar such as the eggrolls we skipped after 1x bc they were quite soggy. I've been to basically all the norcal Seapot locations now, this one and San Mateo are probably my go-to based on the fact they both have the best soup selection. My partner likes the tomato broth and I like creamy milk (sweet, savory, w some corn), which is unfortunately not on the menu of the Daly City location. In terms of meats, we usually just keep a steady flow of beef (Angus, Wagyu, Ribeye, Brisket) coming and enjoy all of them. Our waiter was very attentive, worked a lot of tables and we never had to ask for more soda refills or meat orders. As we ate, the restaurant got more crowded for the 7pm weekend dinner rush so we watched waves of ppl starting to line up at the sauce/salad bar after initially being seated so we would wait for these to die down before walking up there. Meat took a little bit more time to come out when it got more busy after we ordered with our waiter, but was a steady flow as we ate. If you come with a 4+ people, it's most fun to sit close to the conveyor in the booth to have best access to the hotpot sides. Depending on where you are seated on the conveyor, you might need to wait for certain seafood or noodle sides longer than others. But luckily the meat comes separately to your table, which is the star of the show anyways. Overall love Seapot and it is a nice addition to Sac esp during the cold season!

So I'm planning my next trip here this week so I can enjoy the amazing cucumber salad (so fresh, crunchy and garlicky), their pepper beef clay pot (sizzling rice at the bottom for the win and big portions), their spicy tofu (umm what?!? So crispy) and their awesome skewers (the pork belly is my favorite). The space is small, so if you're planning on dining in during peak times, you may want a back up or take it to go as they only have a handful of tables inside and a few tables outside. There is parking but it is shared with other business so can get busy. The service is wonderful! The hostess/waitress was very friendly and everything came out relatively quick. The clay pot does take some time (they need to cook up the rice to get that awesome crunchy bottom) so place your order for that first, and then look at the appetizers and skewers as they come out fast. It was nice enough that I tried to come here on a weekend night and it was packed full of families which is great but probably where I should have thought about it more. During this time a group came up behind us and I thought they were after us. One of the server waved in our general direction after cleaning up and splitting the table, so I thought they were gesturing to us since it has already been 10 minutes of waiting. Wrong, it was to the group behind us. Maybe it was communicated in mandarin that they had a reservation, I'm not sure. I waited for the next empty table, which was also taken by yet another group that magically appeared behind us as if they knew they were in line. I decided to leave after this. My issue is that I looked and talked to the staff multiple times and at no point, did they indicate there was a waitlist, nor did they take my name, or anything about people in front of us. It was really frustrating because being told it would be a few minutes set the wrong expectation. This is not the only place to get skewers so if you're left confused where you are in line, just come another weekday, speak mandarin, or go somewhere else like I did
