I stopped by this restaurant during a visit to Sacramento. Overall, the food was delicious and the quality of the dishes we ordered from the menu was very good. However, be careful with the specials that are offered when you first sit down. Our waitress, Ling, recommended a "combo" for $30 that included fish bone porridge and pan-fried noodles with fish. The noodles tasted fine, but the portion was quite small. The fish bone porridge was extremely bland--I could barely taste any fish. After looking at the regular menu, I noticed that a plain porridge costs about $5, and a similar pan-fried noodle dish is only around $14-15. Based on those menu prices, the $30 combo did not seem to offer good value and felt significantly overpriced. I would definitely recommend the restaurant for its food, but I also recommend checking the menu prices before accepting any off-menu or verbally recommended specials so you know exactly what you're paying for. read more

I've been here twice now in the past month and can say Ming Dynasty is decent. I did not realize I lived close to a place that serves dim sum all day. I first went here with family who was visiting from out of town. It was my first time and we ordered dim sum during lunch hour. The food was good, but we had a hard time ordering more dim sum after two rounds since the servers kept bypassing our table. All the dim sum dishes were good. There was a good lunch crowd also. Enough to stay busy, but not overwhelming. We ordered the shu mai, pork Turnover, crispy shrimp noodle wrap, spare ribs, bokchoy. Everything was decent and tasted fresh. Second time here, we decided to eat here for a mother's/father's day celebration. We went for dinner around 6 pm on a weeknight. We ordered a lot of food. We had the duck, empress chicken, salt and pepper spare ribs, various dim sum dishes (mainly same from my 1st time here), fried rice, chow mien, seafood clay pot, and crispy shrimp balls. Everything tasted great again and my parents actually liked it. They said prices are cheaper than our normal go to dim sum places so that's a huge plus. My favorite from all these dishes were the salt and pepper spare ribs. It had great texture and flavor. The restaurant itself has a lot of tables and is roomy. They can fit a good sized crowd, but part of the dining area is closed off. The workers are nice, but can bypass you so you might have to be a bit more assertive to get what you need. Parking can be tight as well, so you can try the neighborhood or park across the street on the target lot. Came here on CNY and was the second in the door, so no reservation or wait. Service was good, even when busy the staff shared tables and were pretty attentive. Not all of them speak English, but they'll grab an English speaker for you if you need. Love that this place has the dim sum carts coming around, and you can also order from the regular menu. So there is a big variety and a lot to choose from. Got all the regular dim sum things like shrimp dumpling, pork dumpling, rice in banana leaf, shrimp in rice noodle, fried turnip cake, chicken feet, pork ribs in black bean sauce, scallop dumpling, chive dumpling. My family and I went to Ming Dynasty on July 25, 2026 for dim sum. The service was great, and we appreciated the staff's attentiveness. However, the quality of the food has gone downhill compared to our previous visits. What really bothered me was what happened when I walked to the front counter to pay with my credit card. The cashier repeatedly asked me why I didn't leave a tip on my card. I explained that I had already left a cash tip. She should not have asked me multiple times about tipping. Tips are voluntary and should be based on the quality of the service, not something customers are pressured into giving. I hope the management addresses this issue, as it made an otherwise pleasant dining experience uncomfortable. Not coming back to this place again. read more

We had the following: - jellyfish, seaweed salad, cha siu - I think it's hard to mess this fish up and it was vey good - steamed fish - pretty good and came with 2 fish - bacon? We spent the weekend in Sacramento for a family event that included Saturday night dinner here. For dinner, we started with pork belly served with hoisin sauce. This was followed by a seafood soup, honey walnut shrimp, assorted mushrooms/vegetable medley, steamed whole fish, crispy fried chicken, and lobster. Excellent dishes. The orange wedges at the end were the perfect dessert. Eleven of us returned at 10am on Sunday for the dim sum. I selected pu erh tea among the several choices. The "One Live Fish, Two Dishes" Approach: We selected a live black cod ($20/lb) and had the kitchen prepare it two ways. This is where the culinary team shines--both preparations were fresh, expertly seasoned, and utilized the fish to its absolute potential. ​The interior design is simple and functional--nothing flashy, but perfectly fine for a casual meal or a family gathering. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, as the dedicated free parking lot is quite limited, so you may need to hunt for a spot during peak hours. ​The Drawbacks are Service, Restrooms, and Hidden Fees! While the food hits the mark, the rest of the experience is hit-and-miss. The service lacks consistency. Staff can be attentive one moment and completely absent the next. A major downside was the state of the restroom, which was noticeably stinky and poorly maintained. The most frustrating part of the night came at the end. Despite agreeing on the $20 per pound price for the live black cod to be made into two dishes, the final bill included two completely unmentioned, mystery fees: one for $5 and another for $3. Barely any carts rolled by, food was good but not super tasty to the point of food exhaustion and belly filling, and selection wasn't as vast compared to other great dim sum spots. Ming Dynasty is a good place for dim sum in Sacramento. I've dined here many times and most of the experiences have been good. At this dim sum restaurant, they push the dim sum carts from table to table so you can order straight from the cart, or you can also order from your server off the menu. They don't provide the dim sum menu at the table so you have to get it from the counter if you want one. The pork siu mai was pretty good. I also liked their ha gao, shrimp noodle roll, deep fried pork puff, deep fried taro puff, soy sauce tofu, empress chicken, garlic spare ribs, turnip cake, and green tea mochi balls with black sesame. Their XLBs were just okay. The soy sauce chow mein was a miss last time we dined there. It seemed like it was just reheated and not hot. The steamed buns with egg custard inside were so so, but kids liked the ones shaped like piggies. The tea selection was good. On my last visit, they charged us an extra tea fee and charge an L dish that was M in the menu. All small things, but still things to keep an eye out for. We were at my mother in law's for Thanksgiving. She forgotten most places closed on Thanksgiving, so we went to hunt for a Chinese place. And what better than...dimsum?! It did take us a few minutes to drive and see what was open. We try to eat healthier with our new addition to the family, but sometimes just have to work with what we have. We found out Ming Dynasty was open for Thanksgiving! Parking wasn't a problem to find when we went. We dropped off one person in the car while parking so my sister-in-law grabbed us a table. They didn't give us a high chair until they saw we had a toddler and we asked for one. Food was surprisingly quick and many carts rolled us by us. We got our food quickly and our toddler was able to eat some of the items. He just turned 13 months, so we were attempting not to overload his body with salty food to process. We found out he loved congee - which should have been a no brainer, but I've always been intimidated to try to make it. It's on my list to try to make for him. The ladies spoke cantonese but could understand our mandarin when we asked about selections. Glancing around, patrons were a mix of ethnicity and there were some that looked very familiar with the servers, laughing and hugging. May come again if in the area. I've been coming to this dim sum place the past couple of years and this is a staple. Not only the price is reasonable, but the service is great as well. My recent visit was perfect, all the items was fresh and hot, and one aspect that stood out was that the person doing the cards also mention the items in English, which helps for those people who don't speak Chinese. This is always our go to place for authentic dim sum and variety. Service is always fast and good. Haven't been here for a while though and it was disappointing today due to inconsistent food. Baked goods like pineapple bun, egg tart, and cha siu bao were hands down best we have had in a long time. But the steamed, fried, and kitchen items really declined. Love Ming dynasty been coming here for years. Michelin star recognized restaurant but the staff is very friendly and it's homey. You don't have to dress up super nice just casual and they have dim sum carts in the morning till afternoon, after that dim sum is available to order from the menu. A group of friends recommended Ming Dynasty. I'm relatively new to the dim sum experience. The dining area is a large, open room that's clean, efficient, and always buzzing with movement. One thing to note: the language barrier with staff can be a bit challenging. Upon walking in, if you don't already know how dim sum service works, you may need to ask for guidance since menus weren't provided and it's not immediately clear how to begin. Luckily, we were with someone who spoke Chinese, which helped immensely in choosing the best items as the ladies came by with their carts. The only other thing to watch out for is the pricing--each dish has its own cost, but it's not always clear upfront, so items can add up quickly if you're not paying attention. As for the food, I tried the lava bun for the first time and it was sweet, warm, and absolutely delicious--my new favorite. We also sampled beef dishes, vegetables, soup, and a variety of dumplings, all of which made the experience even better. I'm still working my way up to trying the pig's feet next time. Dined at Ming Dynasty for the second time; both of which were for Chinese New Years and had a good experience each time. Many places can have could food, but the interaction with staff can make or break the experience. And either make you want to come back or never come back again. Both of my times here the staff were very friendly, and made you feel like both they wanted to be there and wanted you as a customer there. That hasn't been my experience unfortunately at some other Chinese buffets in the area. The Chinese food was great. The beef chow mein and the my-shu tasted flavorful and very filling. The portion sizes were worth the price. I ordered the house special BBQ platter and the beef chow fun as a take out order. I was expecting roast duck with the BBQ platter as this is what was on the photo on Door Dash. I was quite disappointed. The platter came with jellyfish, seaweed salad, roast pork, cha sui, and a type of beef cold cut. I did not enjoy the jellyfish as it tasted very bland and unseasoned. I have not been here in a long time, so today me and my sister went. I'm not sure if it's under new management but the place was pretty clean and looks more organized now. We got here at about 12:00, was greeted and sat down super fast! I think we got here at a good time because after 15mins a whole crowd showed up and it was getting busy!! The carts were coming by one by one. You can also order something from the menu if anything too. The waiters/servers and A Yi (auntie)'s were super nice and attentive. I feel like this place generally had better service and friendlier service than other spots. We picked what we wanted it was was flavorful and hot. Super good. This place has THE best shumai and egg tarts that I've ever had. First time here today and I will definitely come back whenever someone I know is in town and we crave for dumplings! Service was so sweet and efficient, and I just can't get over how delicious the shumai was. They were huge, and you would get a shrimp in every bite! I loved living the cart experience and the tea was so soothing and complemented the egg tarts very well. Definitely one of my favorites here and can't wait to be back! A review about the Wor Wonton soup I've been eating at Ming Dynasty for years. I've had everything up and down their menu but a constant go to for me is the Wor Wonton soup. This is my go to feel better soup, if I'm sick or just in the mood to stuff my soul with delicious soup. I've tried many versions of Wor Wonton around town and I feel like I the best version at Ming Dynasty. Alongside fresh, delicious dumplings, expect a good amount of veggies, seafood, and meats to fufill that soup craving. I like that if you get it to-go, the broth is separated from everything else to maximize freshness when you get home. I like to add hot chili oil and a little soy sauce. I like to sweat it out while I'm scarfing down this meal. In an ever-changing world, Ming Dynasty has not changed this perfect meal and I'm thankful for that. I've done takeout a ton of times but have also ate inside. This place is a good size, can be a little loud during cart service but a great spot for entertaining and enjoying time with loved ones over a good meal. Pricing was competitive, they had a good variety of dim sum, quality was legit, and the service was fine. Based on that, I decided to return here for a second trip. The second trip was less stellar than the first, mainly because service was slow and it took us a while to get our food. This was after the lunch rush in the mid afternoon, so it felt a bit unusual to have slower service during their wind down period. My only guess is that the kitchen slows down later in the afternoon, but who knows. The dim sum was about average and overshadowed by the how slow the dishes came out and some of the plates didn't seem super hot. Dim sum prices as of November 2024: Small - $4.25 Medium - $5.55 Large - $6.25 Kitchen - $7.85 For reference, siu mai is a medium (4 pieces) and shrimp rice noodle rolls are considered a large. We were looking for a place that was open in the being that sold fried shrimp balls and other dim sum items and this place hit the mark. Not only is this place super reasonable for the price but also for the portion size! Have tried Ming Dynasty a few times in the past alone and with family. Today ordered the chao zhou style dumpling, chicken feet, and beef chow fun dry style as opposed to gravy style. Everything was very tasty especially the beef chow fun. It is flavorful without being too salty and noodles were not clumped together compared to some I've had before from other places. The other two dishes were good as well but will try other dim sum dishes next visit. I love noodles, so will try other noodle dishes as well since the chow fun was good. Chow fun came out first and not a long wait then the dim sum dishes came out the same time, again not a long wait. Good service all in all. Place is spacious. OMG I lived in the Sac region for over 25+ years and I don't know how I missed ever coming to Ming Dynasty! I got invited to my daughter's BF Chinese New Year family dinner here a few weeks back and OMG was I impressed. I have driven right past this place for years and even a few weeks back the outside wouldn't have pulled me in. Parked outside a little sketchy with some the homeless people wandering around, but they did have a security guard so made it feel a little safer. Walking in not what I was expecting either felt more like a banquet hall more than anything. What did catch my eye were the massive fish tanks across the back wall with tons of lobsters, crabs and other delicious seafood! Inside to be honest nothing special and the bathrooms not that special either actually kinda dirty on my night visiting. But what made up for it was the amazing service and even more amazing food! This place brought me back to eating in downtown SF as a kid in China Town. Everything is served family style and the flavors out of bounds! My absolute hands down favorites were lobster chow mein literally with the whole lobster. Then the Peking duck and build your own boa buns with plum sauce was so good!!!! I was especially excited to find that on a Friday afternoon, they had full cart service going! Last time I came, they didn't have the carts, so this was a really nice surprise. I did online ordering after work for their bbq delight platter which shows two bbq meat options but when I got home and opened the to go box it had one bbq duck and the steamed chicken instead. When I called the store asking for assistance, he claimed I didn't chose the right options and that it's Chinese bbq and not American bbq. The online website did not have any options to chose from but the picture clearly shows two bbq items not one. Mind you, when I went inside to pick it up there was no one but a couple. When I asked how to get a refund and he made excuses and hung up on me. I called back three more times asking for help and he continued to hang up on me. I've eaten at this restaurant before for a huge family gathering and I remember that previous experience being good, but my most recent experience was anything but good. The food and service were terrible. I had lunch with my mom and brother. It's a huge restaurant and there were about five other tables being waited, yet it took forever for our food to come. The shrimp dumplings and the roast duck didn't look fresh. The dumplings were old and, when we picked them up, the skin was stuck to the bowl. The duck was overcooked, didn't have a ton of meat and had sauce, which I think the chef put on to make it look better. When we got our bill, it didn't come with fortune cookies. read more
