Third time here and still a favorite! The soup dumplings are flavorful and come out nice and hot, with the perfect amount of soup. The meat in the soup was tender and everything was filling. The service is super friendly too, definitely part of why I keep coming back. read more

Came around 1 on sunday. Order at kiosk then sit and they bring the food. Everything self serve basically, water and togo containers. We ordered a pork xlb and beef brisket noodle, total was about 31$. Xlb came out in like 15 mins then noodles came out 10 mins later. Xlb was good, soup had good flavor, filling was decent not fatty. The noodles were decent, good flavoring, not too flavorful but a good balance, noodles were quite mushy tho. Gave like 6 pieces of meat(?) very little as always but the meat was very lean and tender which was good. Two pieces of bokchoy some broccoli and bell peppers (interesting choice of toppings). A LOT of noodles, very bad ratio of noodles to toppings. Overall not bad, didnt expect it to be like this, kinda like a fast food dumpling place. Most of the workers were non chinese ppl which was interesting lol. Not the most authentic place but the xlb was good. read more

The place is small but clean. The menu is simple, you order at the counter, pay there, and they bring the food to you. The food was really good, the stir fried string beans were crispy and fresh the same as the cucumbers. The Spicy Xi'an Cold Noodles was also tasty and the same goes with the Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao. read more

We had: Pork xiao long bao- delicious, tons of soup. $13.95 for 8. Chk & corn dumplings- delicious. Has small amts of cabbage, carrots, along w corn & chk. $13.95 for 8. Toddler liked this one. Dan dan noodles $13.95. Mild flavor. Lots of ground pork, 2 pieces of bok choy. Not spicy at all. Probably wouldn't get it again... we just prefer the more sichuan spicy style Honey lemon tea $3. A bit sweet for me but hubby liked it. Love that hubby w his allium onion allergies was able to eat the dumplings :) We also ordered veggie dumplings but due to miscommunication we never got it. Next time. Cashier was nice and answered our questions patiently. The incoming cashier was really sweet and when my toddler started crying / throwing a tantrum, she asked what's wrong and gave her a dumpling keychain. Food- 4 stars Customer service- 5 stars Bathroom was spacious and clean. No paper towels just air dry. We go to the zoo a lot so will probably pop by next time and order the pan fried dumplings, veg dumplings and maybe take home some frozen dumplings :) The chicken and corn one was about $38 for 40 pieces or something. The shrimp one was $43 for 40pc. read more

It's a self serve restaurant. Order at the counter and get your own water. I didn't really mind that. Food is really a hit or a missed. Ordered braised beef brisket noodle soup and pork soup dumpling. While the soup dumpling tasted really good but our beef noodle soup was terrible. Our beef was like a hard beef cube and the broth isn't authentic. However, I really enjoyed the dumplings. It was delicious!!! read more

Most of the bad reviews for this location were from the soft/grand opening period much like my own review. I am glad to say the food was vastly improved today. Tasty Dumpling isn't 5 stars but they are good. I ordered the following items: Pork XLB $12.95 delicious Chicken and corn steamed dumplings $11.95 meh wouldn't order again Garlic green beans $12.95 good flavor but beans were a little tough. Popcorn chicken $9.95 good portion likely frozen as the chicken was chewy. Pork and shrimp steamed dumplings $12.95 tasty good flavor. Thai Iced Tea $2.99 had to order this to break $50 and receive my pork and shrimp steamed dumplings FREE with online $50 orders! I am guessing they ran out of ground pork and bought ground pork sausage from Safeway by mistake the day I visited four years ago Lol ! Tasty Dumpling will satisfy your dumpling craving if you're too hungry to drive further. read more

Trying Tasty Dumpling in the Safeway shopping center for the first time . Placed a takeout order by phone about 20 minutes before arriving. Apparently the register went down shortly after I hung up. When I arrived the line was almost to the door and the place felt very busy. The kitchen had lively music playing and several cooks working while the cashier tried to manage orders and write things down on receipt tape since the system was down. She was polite and clearly doing her best. My order had already been sitting on the counter, but since the register wasn't working she had to ask again what I ordered. While I was waiting, two customers behind me walked out and another canceled her order. It probably would have helped if customers were notified right away that the register was down. I also noticed dine in plates and bowls of soup being placed on the counter near the register where customers were standing, with a lot of activity happening around them. Eventually the system came back up and I was able to pay, but by then my food had gotten cold. For about $75 for five items I expected a better experience. The shrimp and pork dumplings had a noticeably strong fishy flavor and the beef roll was cold and lacked flavor. I understand technical issues happen but better communication and fresher food would have made a big difference. If the service flow improves I'd be open to giving them another try. read more

We ordered to go for dinner. This place was recommended by one of our friends. We order a variety of different dishes to try. The only thing I did not care for was the pan-fried buns. The outside was doughy and thick. The other items, like the fried rice, wonton soup, dumplings, and noodles are pretty good. I would try this place again. read more

I love Tasty Dumpling. A Sacramento friend recommended it to me a long time ago. Even though I arrived the last half hour before 8:30 pm closing time, the restaurant allowed me to dine in and had my order ready in about 15 minutes. I asked permission first. The Spicy Xi'an Cold Noodles arrived first. You can order spicy or nonstick. Spicy still wasn't spicy enough for me, so I added chili oil from the handy table condiments. Not the most exciting dish, but good comfort food during hot summer weather. The Beef Rolls arrived shortly after. I think they are food perfection. I could eat them all day or anytime of the day! It's a Chinese breakfast or brunch menu item. One or two of the sliced beef rolls make a good pre-workout snack. I just toast them in my toaster oven to reheat, which is 450 degrees for like 2 or 2.5 minutes. Marinated beef in slices with green onions wrapped in a crispy pancake. The beef was chilled before sliced. I would order this regularly if I lived nearby. I asked the staff what were their popular dishes. He simply pointed to the image of Pork Xiao Long Bao or steamed soup dumplings on the wall. If you order them, you will not be disappointed. Plump and juicy. Make your own mixture of chili oil, vinegar, and soy sauce (regular with red cap, low sodium with green cap). I was impressed that the restaurant scrubs and washes down its kitchen backsplash and walls at the end of the day. I also saw them mopping. This is a self-service restaurant where you order from the counter, dispense your own ice cold water into stainless steel pint cups, and grab your own chopsticks and sauces. You get a number for your table. Tasty Dumpling is a fitting name for this yummy restaurant. It's nice and refreshing when I don't have to think so hard how to rate and write up a restaurant. read more

Sorry didn't take any pictures because we were so hungry! I wish I could've eaten at the restaurant because even though the food was very flavorful the dumplings weren't as hot as I would've preferred. a couple of the pan fried juicy pork dumplings looked deflated on top and the scallion pancakes looked like they were overcooked and not very tasty. The beef rolls were something new we tried and they were delicious. Overall, I don't really recommend having them delivered read more

I stopped by here for take out dinner since I was going to the Chip Cookies Yelp event. Very happy with this decision because the food was so TASTY! I ordered braised beef brisket noodle soup ($15), pan fried juicy pork dumplings ($13,) stir fried green beans ($12) and they kindly added a surprise container of steamed pork dumplings! I wasn't antsy or angry about the wait but I think they put it in there as an apologetic thank you. I didn't notice extra the container until we got home. Promptly greeted when I walked in, they were quite busy with diners and to-go orders. I pre-ordered online using their website and had a seat on the barstools at the front. You can see the kitchen and watch chefs working hard to fulfill all the orders. My mom loves potstickers but her favorites were the soup and green beans. Looking forward to coming back when we are in the area again. I'd like to dine in and try their XLB. read more

The food was great! The XLB had a lot of tasty soup and were among the best XLB I've had recently. The potstickers were okay (weren't as fried as I usually like them) and the scallion pancakes were a bit too fried, but overall the food was very tasty. I also loved the sauces, especially the dipping sauce and the scallion chili oil, which tasted homemade. The food came out super quickly and we were in and out within 30 minutes. read more

Good homemade dumplings [Sacramento CA] Looking for a place to have dinner while already here for a Yelp Experience Event at Chip Cookies and apparently there were a lot of food options but we were in the mood for dumplings so we chose this restaurant. The restaurant is narrow as you enter but deep and all the table seating were against the wall with a nice decorated mural. One long high table seating that could seat 4 or 5 is on the opposite side of the wall towards the front of the restaurant. A counter service restaurant we placed our order with the gentleman in front who was busy preparing online orders. We were fortunate to find seating. We placed our order for the following: D2. Pork & Shrimp Steamed Dumpling P1. Pan Fried Juicy Pork Bun (6pcs) B1. Pork Bun (2pcs) Food came at a reasonable time, actually food came fast. Everything was yummy. The dumplings were tasty, very flavorful, they are made in house behind a large window where you can watch them prepare them. First time trying the Pan Fried Juicy Pork Bun and really liked it. Pleasant first time experience at Tasty Dumpling. Review #3633 read more

One of the best places to get dumplings and XLB in the Sacramento area IMO. The dumplings are tasty and well wrapped (XLB doesn't fall apart or leak when you pick it up!). Keep in mind that they use the same filling for all the dumplings so what you order just determines how it is wrapped and cooked. The other dishes such as the dry braised string beans, beef noodles, popcorn chicken, green onion pancakes, beef rolls, etc, are all worth a try too! Order at the counter, they give you a number, and you grab your seat. It's a little tight in there, therefore, not good for large parties. Located in the same parking lot as Safeway, next to Peet's. read more

I can't believe I've not made this review sooner. This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Sacramento! The staff here are efficient and hard workers. The decor is minimal save for the giant photoshopped mural on one wall. Peep the random ingredients that do not seem like they belong, haha. Offerings: - XLB: Pretty good and could hold a candle to Din Tai Fung! Love the flavor and textures! - Braised Beef Soup: this is not exactly up my alley. I love the soup flavor and the noodles. The meat is really tender but includes more random cuts that most American restaurants would not serve. This feels like a very authentic dish that I think adventurous/mainland Chinese people would appreciate. My tastes are unfortunately too white-washed. - Popcorn Chicken: really well fried and great flavor. If you're a fan of popcorn chicken, I would recommend ordering this. You won't be disappointed. - Chili Wonton: Really good and great flavor! One of the best dishes in my opinion. - Green beans/Broccoli: Both are so delicious and very salty. I will say, there must be MSG present. It is just that good. - Pan Fried Pork Dumplings: I love this dish almost anywhere. It is always served piping hot and it is so satisfying. I love all the textures. If you've not tried this, please do. It is sooo good. - Wonton Soup: the wonton skins were a little thick for my taste and the flavor was a little too similar to regular dumplings. The broth was really good though! Served with seaweed which was an interesting touch. read more

Our family was visiting Sacramento, we wanted some Asian food for lunch, and then we stumbled upon Tasty Dumpling. Reviews looked good and I'm always down for a dumpling meal! - PARKING - Large parking lot for all the businesses in this plaza. No problem finding a spot here. - ENVIRONMENT - Not a huge restaurant inside, but decent amount of space for 2/4/6 party tables. Most people seemed to be picking up to-go orders rather than dining in. You order at the front and then they give you a number so that they can deliver the food to the appropriate table. - SERVICE - They got the first few items out fairly quick, but after we noticed one item was missing, we let them know. It took them over 15 minutes for one item, and it was the Beef Roll. The Beef was cold and the pancake outside was also cold! Not sure why we waited so long just for a soggy and cold item. - FOOD - Definitely just focus on the dumplings here, as the store name suggests. The other items we ordered left us wishing we just ordered several variations of the dumplings. - SPICY XLB: Great flavor, lots of soup, amazing dumpling skin! The perfect amount of spice! - STEAMED BEEF DUMPLINGS: Nice chewy skin, in comparison to the XLB skin! Great flavor inside. - PAN FRIED PORK DUMPLINGS: Nice crispy bottom, great flavoring in the meat inside. - POPCORN CHICKEN: Quite dry. Wasn't a fan of the sweet/sour dipping sauce either. - BEEF ROLL: As mentioned before, this came cold and soggy. Not sure if it would've been better than the dumplings even if it was hot, but probably better than what we experienced. - OVERALL - Satisfied our asian food craving, but if we ever come back we'll definitely stick to the dumplings only! read more

I went in the evening and the guy behind the counter was friendly at first. It's like a mini version of Din tai fung, along with the Latino crew cooking. Made my order to go, got a water, and waited. Turned out they were a little behind as other customers kept asking the status of their order. I did receive my order per the estimated time and got all the utensils, chili oil, and napkins. The cashier/server was a little frazzled or unhappy for some reason when he handed me the food. Later, I did get food poisoning, but couldn't tell if it was from the chili oil or the dumplings themselves. read more

I went to Tasty Dumpling for the first time for dinner tonight with a friend and it exceeded my expectations! They are located inside the giant Crocker Village shopping center across from Safeway. We ordered the Vegetarian Dumplings and the Cold Noodles (non spicy). The Cold Noodles came out first, it was just wide noodles with thinly sliced cucumber and some kind of sauce on it. It was very light and refreshing - we added our own chili oil to it for a little kick. The dumplings took a little while to come out, but I know it's because they make them fresh to order. The Vegetarian Dumplings were packed with flavor and better than some of the meat ones I've had at other restaurants. They stayed together and did not fall apart when we tired picking them up. I would order this again! The inside is small with a select number of tables, but I like that you can see the kitchen from the front and watch them make the dumplings. Staff were friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back to try more items! Check them out! read more

Brought Mom here for Mother's Day 2024 around 11:30 AM! There were a few small tables still open when we arrived. You could take a paper menu and mark off in the boxes what quantity of each item you wanted, then take a number for your table. I'd only been here once before and tried the pork and shrimp XLB soup dumplings and the shrimp fried rice at that time. We shared the pork xiao long bao soup dumplings (8 per order), the pork and shrimp steamed dumplings (8 per order), the scallion pancake (8 pieces), stir-fried green beans, and the shrimp fried rice. Mom had a bottle of Coke Zero and I got the Honey Lemon Tea. The green beans came out first, then the fried rice, pork and shrimp dumplings, scallion pancake, and then the xiao long bao. This spread barely fit on our small table, but we did order a lot! The green beans were fresh and crisp-tender, not too mushy, crunchy, or oily with the right amount of garlic. Shrimp fried rice was very "clean," not oily or salty. The scallion pancake was also very good, which reminded my mom of the Filipino fritter "ukoy" in texture and was not overly salty or tough to chew. Since we didn't see any shumai, the pork and shrimp dumplings were a very nice substitute and good flavor! The pork soup dumplings were also very good. The honey lemon iced tea I got (green tea?) was also super refreshing and had perfect sweetness. Leftovers were enough for another meal/sitting each! Great service, from each dish that came to the table to the takeout boxes/bags/sauces, prompt cleaning/turnover of tables. Clean bathroom. Parking is shared with Peets Coffee, Happy Lemon, Five Guys, Ono Hawaiian BBQ, Panda Express, Nekter Juice Bar, Great Clips, etc. Next time maybe I'll try their braised beef noodle soup, stir-fried wide noodles, dan dan noodles, pork buns, or pan-fried beef rolls. read more

We were coming back down from South Lake Tahoe to the Bay Area and were looking for something yummy to start off the new year. Plus, we needed to make a pit stop. Found this place on Yelp: You order at the counter and take a seat. It was near-empty on New Year day at 1pm. We ordered the pork postickers, pork XLB, and wanted soup, so we got braised beef noodle. There is a window where you can watch the staff carefully make each dumpling, which my son loved. The food was straightforward and yummy. The braised beef noodle soup wasn't as seasoned as we would have liked, but filling nonetheless for people who were craving something soupy anyway. Straightforward and delicious dumplings! read more

It's a smaller restaurant - you order at the counter and find your own seat. I do notice a lot of people are usually ordering takeout. Well, food is good and perfect to share. Depending on what time there can be a small wait time but remember it takes a while for the XLB to steam or get fried. Oh yeah, the pan-fried XLB is worth a try, too! Been here quite a few times, a quick alternative to Journey to the Dumpling. Same concept, but scaled down menu. Everything is hand made here, and the best thing about them is that nothing is hidden (exposed kitchen). I'd say Tasty's Xiao Long Bao (XLB) is a step ahead of JTD. The skin is thinner and the soup & pork filling is more plentiful inside the XLB. Once you puncture a hole or two in your XLB, drench the inside with vinegar and chili oil and eventually bite into the XLB with your mouth closed, that burst of juice inside your mouth is heaven! (Hope that's not too graphic) . The "twisty top" isn't thick & doughy, unlike those at dim sum joints. Everything else we've tried here is fresh, tasty and consistent. Green beans with minced garlic are fresh, snappy and no stringy ends! Kitchen/front area is clean and organized, and capacity max's out at 40. Owner is personable and you can tell cares about both the food and facility. He watches the employees inside the kitchen like a hawk and he busses tables, brings out orders and operates the register when he's free. If you're around the area and in the mood for XLB, get over to Tasty Dumpling, the next best thing to the infamous Din Tai Fung! read more

This place has been on my list for a while and I finally got to go when my dad was in town! We went right at when they opened and there were already 2 tables sat! We ordered the Shrimp & Pork Xiao Long Bao, Sliced Potato Salad w/ House Dressing, the Sesame Balls, the Pan Fried Juicy Pork Bun, and the Xi'an Cold Noodles. The soup dumplings were super juicy! I always like making a hole in it, pour all the soup into a spoon, and then drink everything at the end. The sliced potato salad was a great starter, since it was cold. The Sesame Balls were a nice sweet touch to our overall meal. The Pan Fried Pork Buns were great as well; perfect amount of filling and not overly fried. One of my favorite items was probably the Xi'an Cold Noodles. It was so refreshing! I would definitely return to Tasty Dumpling! read more
