The older building used to house a great breakfast restaurant that relocated to a bigger space downtown. However it's a perfect space for a dim sum restaurant. The bao were good although a little light on the inside goodness, the beef and chicken dumplings were good and the soy sauce base dipping sauce made them even better, the chicken and Chinese sausage chow mein was really good. I always judge Chinese restaurants by the quality of their chicken and beef they use and Dumpling House did good. Service was friendly and quick. Definitely will return to try other things on their menu.

Have been here a couple times now, the first time after it was recommend by a friend who came on a date and gave a great review. I'm not sure why it took so long to try this place but was super happy with my experience! This restaurant is a little small inside but has a decent amount of seating for dining in. The menu is great with lots of options and a ton of vegetarian options which was super nice to see! We ordered spicy edamame, cream cheese wontons, cucumber salad, vegetarian potstickers, and vegetarian bao. Everything was delicious! The food came out pretty quick and the staff were really nice. I've come back afterwards to try other times to-go, and it was just as good and didn't take long to get. Will be back!

This is a cute little place. It was pretty cold inside though. We had the shumai and fried fish and chips. The taste of the shumai was good. However, it's a bit touch and chewing. I am use to shumai being soft. The fish and chips were enough for two people to share, the fish was flaky, but it was very breaded. The fries were good. The service was pretty good. It's self-service. You go up to the counter and place the order and they bring it to your table.

Great food, but super expensive !!! Everything came out hot and flavorful and Everton at the restaurant was so nice The veggie buns come out a lot later than the other food - just to note

My friend and I checked out Dumpling House for dinner last night. It is a little hole in the wall on the corner of 24th and J Street in Midtown - across from Rick's Dessert Diner. The inside was very small with seats on both sides of the restaurant. We ordered the Crushed Cucumber, Edamame, Pork and Chive Dumplings and Dan Dan Noodles. I really liked the Pork and Chive Dumplings - they were super fresh and I liked watching the lady make them at the table next to us. I also really liked the Dan Dan Noodles - they were fresh and had the right amount of spiciness from the peanut sauce. I didn't really care for the Edamame or Cucumber - I thought they were both a bit underwhelming and I've had them better at other restaurants. Staff were very friendly and kept checking on us and filling our water glasses. The food was brought out quickly too. My only other negative was that it was very hot inside - I'm not sure if the A/C was broken or just not very strong, but my friend and I both left feeling like it was over 100 degrees inside. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and I left feeling overly full with plenty of leftovers to take home still. I would definitely come back again for some of those dumplings - some of the freshest in town! Check them out!

A former Fish & Chips restaurant that turned into a dumpling restaurant, and for the price, the dumplings can't be best. Recommend their chicken (which comes with corn) or their pork and chives dumplings ($13 for 12). What makes them unique is that the dumpling skin is a little thicker, so they taste delicious fried. They still have fish and chips, which is surprisingly good. The fish is lightly battered and less fried than the typical fish and chips, so it tastes a little different, but healthier. Only downsides is that they serve all the food in plastic tray takeout containers (even when you're dining in) and their outdoor tables are all plastic picnic tables. You order inside and they'll bring the food out to you!

I love it!! This was a lovely place, small but spacious and filled with so much warmth and deliciousness. We were immediately greeted and welcomed in with smiles. Seated quickly with a server that asked what we'd like to drink and if we had any questions. Service was beyond any of my wildest expectations! They were so polite, attentive, and friendly. They had so many different options, so I asked for recommendations. And they asked follow up questions to make sure I got something I would definitely enjoyed. We were checked up on frequently. Our waters were refilled without being asked, never lower than halfway. The food was phenomenal! It was so fresh, piping hot! The portions were amazing for the price point. We were stuffed and had some to take home too. The crispy chicken was definitely one of my favorites ever! It was so crispy, bite sized, and well seasoned!! Not too salty not too bland, and has a nice kick to it. The dumplings were filled! And the sauce- MY GOSH UNBELIEVABLE. I honestly, could drink it! Especially their chili oil, drenched every bite in it. And I dream of it even now. I was able to talk to a server about the dumplings, she told me she's been making them for over 20 years! And that they are all made fresh every day. Definitely worth stopping by! They feel like family. You'll be well taken care of and leave with a smile and a stomach full of dumplings!

The aesthetics are basic but I don't care. It's not about the tables and chairs and decor. This is about dumplings. And I Love this place! As a Party of two today we HAD to get the four seater because we wanted to order A LOT to have leftovers. Our favorite kim chi dumplings plus regular steamed dumplings and first time getting the bao buns and garlic broccoli. Wow!!!! Lots of garlic- good thing we both ate it. And it was steamed to l perfection - still a little crunchy and the toppings were fantastic. But YES lots of garlic! The bao buns were soft and the dough is magical. The service was great as usual'

This place is good for its price! However this place didn't hit the spot for me. The dumplings were served on a plate, which is different from traditional steamed dumplings being served on a bamboo steamer. For me, this made much of a difference because the dumplings got cold a lot faster and the dumpling wrapper got hard. Some people might not mind these factors so take my review with a grain of salt! There was plenty of room to sit on a Friday afternoon. We ordered quite a bit of food for just two of us, so the food was fairly cold by the middle of our meal. By the time we were done with our dumplings, they brought out our appetizers. Besides this, service was okay. One of our orders was a chili wonton and usually at other dumpling spots, they use chili oil. But they used chili powder. Interesting choice but just not what I'm used to! It was still pretty good. Overall, I give this place a 3/5 for its food. About average. Perfect for if you just want to get a quick dumpling craving out the way but not if you want out of this world delicious dumplings.

A Gem for Dumplings in Midtown If you're looking for a spot that hits the trifecta of great flavor, service, and value, Dumpling House in Midtown is a must-visit. It's a cozy "hole in the wall" that delivers big on quality without breaking the bank. The Food The dumplings are the clear stars here. The skins are slightly thicker, making them particularly delicious when ordered fried, though the steamed versions are just as fresh. Must-try: The pork and chives dumplings and the chicken and corn variety. Vegetarian options: They offer a fantastic selection of veggie options, including vegetable bao and potstickers. Don't miss: The Dan Dan noodles have a great bounce and the perfect level of spice, and the crispy chicken is seasoned to perfection. Service & Atmosphere The service is exceptionally fast and friendly. Even when it's busy, the staff is attentive, often refilling waters before you even have to ask. While the interior is small and can get a bit warm, the welcoming environment makes it feel like you're being taken care of by family. Value For 2026, the prices are incredibly reasonable. You can get a hearty meal for two for around $50, with generous portions that often leave you with leftovers. Quick Tips: Parking: It's mostly street parking, so give yourself a few extra minutes to find a spot. And it's metered. Takeout: The food travels well and stays just as flavorful if you prefer to eat at home.

11/10! Super tender dumplings with flavorful fillings. Delicious sauces on side. The Dan Dan noodles were also excellent. Bouncy fresh noodles. Good service. Great value too. Would be a go to spot for me if I lived in the area.

We came here because of the 4-star reviews and were hoping for a solid dumpling experience, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype for us. The dumplings themselves lacked flavor and tasted like they were premade and simply boiled--not fresh or house-made as we had hoped. We tried the kimchi dumplings, expecting something bold or unique (maybe a kimchi powder on top?), but instead they just had a bit of paprika or chili flakes sprinkled over them. It was underwhelming. The space is small and wasn't busy at all when we visited, but we still had to ask for a water refill and waited around 10-15 minutes for our food. Oddly, our appetizer showed up at the end of the meal, which made no sense. Appetizers are supposed to come first, right? To be fair, the appetizer was the highlight, and if we were to return, it would probably be just for that. But honestly, if you're craving dim sum or flavorful dumplings, you might want to look elsewhere. We came here because of the high ratings, but it didn't quite satisfy our dumpling hunger.

The location is great. It's right on J street by many other restaurants and businesses. The area is super walkable and seems to always be full of life. The parking here might be a tad difficult since it's only street parking nearby. I don't know if there is a parking structure that is close by. The service is incredibly fast. When I went, we were seated right away and they took our order within the first 5 minutes. We ordered a lot of food and it came out in less than 10 minutes. It was all was piping hot and very fresh. The flavor of the food was immaculate. I was impressed with their bao, very fluffy but also firm and packed with flavor. Their soup wontons were a new flavor to my palate, I never imagined something liquid inside of a solid like that. The chow mein was alright, I wish it was more crunchy than flimsy. The fried wontons blew me away. They were crispy and very savory. The prices were also decent for 2025. I'd say you can walk out here for about $50 for a meal for two making this a ($$$) for me. The flavor, service, and location more than make up for the price. Bottom line/TLDR: amazing food!

It's not that kind of place. First come, first serve on seating.

Are they open for dinner on Christmas Eve?

    Do they sell Frozen dumplings?

Indeed. Just loaded a menu of the frozen items.

Do I need a reservation for a large group of people?

Probably, the dining room is small

Is there a descriptive menu available? We have food allergies so it would be nice to know what is in each dish before ordering. The menu here has the names of items but I don't know what is in Dan Dan noodles or some of the other items.

No, there is not. Your best bet is to go to the restaurant and ask about the ingredients.

I've been coming to New Happy Garden for several years--back when it was just "Happy Garden"--and…read moreit used to be a spot I'd happily go out of my way for. The restaurant itself has always been large, spacious, and beautifully decorated with chandeliers--it's definitely a nice venue for events like weddings. Their taro turnovers have always been a favorite of mine, and even after moving farther away, I still found myself coming back just for them. A few months ago, my husband and I had a really pleasant experience here. We ordered a variety of dim sum and ended up taking some home because everything was so enjoyable. My husband typically orders the spicy orange chicken and has always been satisfied with it. The service during that visit was also great--the server was sweet, attentive, and we even had some fun conversations. Unfortunately, our most recent visit yesterday was a completely different experience. We came in around 11:15 AM on a Tuesday expecting a nice, casual dim sum date. I ordered har gow, siu mai, sticky rice, and shrimp balls with sweet and sour sauce, and we waited for more of the dim sum carts to come around. As usual, I ordered the spicy orange chicken for my husband. It was already off to a rough start when communication with our servers became difficult. There seemed to be a significant language barrier, and it was challenging to get our concerns across. Things went downhill when we received the "spicy" orange chicken. It was not spicy at all and, more importantly, it was severely overcooked--hard, dry, and honestly unchewable. We ordered chicken, not beef jerky. When we brought this up, the staff seemed fixated on the spice level rather than listening to the main issue. They insisted that the dish was already spicy and interpreted our concern as a request for "extra spicy." Both my husband and I can handle spice differently, but we could agree there was no spice present, and that wasn't even the primary problem--the texture was. They took the dish back, and we assumed it would be remade. Instead, it was quickly returned to us with some chili sauce sprinkled on top--the same exact overcooked chicken. I could tell it hadn't been remade because the same broken piece of chicken was still on the plate. At that point, we were frustrated and had lost our appetites. I took the dish to the register myself to explain that the issue was the texture and that the chicken was inedible. It finally seemed to click, and they apologized and offered to remake it, but by then, it felt too late. I'm not one to give third chances when something should have been handled correctly the first or second time. To their credit, they did not charge us for the dish and were apologetic, but the entire experience felt unnecessarily difficult and frustrating. That's not the level of service I expect when I'm paying to support a business. It's especially disappointing because this was meant to be our last visit before moving out of state, and it ended on such a sour note. Sadly, after this experience, I definitely do not see myself returning.

When I got the pineapple buns in my hand they were still nice and warm, a decent size as well compared to some dimsum spots. The filling was nice and sweet, not the typical nai wong custard but a coconut, thicker filling that was nice and sweet. The bread was so soft as well and the crust was nice flaky and crunchy. It was very satisfying to bite into, no complaints here! 9/10 The sui mai was piping hot when I got it as well. They were very big and meaty and so fresh when I bit into them. Super juicy and fulfilling to eat! 8.5/10 Lastly the rice noodles, which are my favorite of all time dimsum foods. The shrimp one had such a good bite to it because of the shrimp. The rice noodles were thin and soft just how I like them! The beef one I wish had a bit more beef/beef flavor to it but still good! They do recommend you have a list ready when it's your turn to order. It helps with the flow of things. Prices are decent. In a plaza, so parking is abundant. Cons- Cash and debit cards only. Even though English is spoken, there still was some miscommunication. I asked for the spare ribs rice roll and she almost gave me something else. I also ordered the BBQ pork mochi biscuit but she gave me a Red Bean one. Items are not really fresh. Spare ribs rice roll - This was so good and only $5.50 for a good sized portion. The rice rolls were soft! The pork tender, and I loved the sweet soy they give you on the side to pour over. Would come back for this. Mochi x 4 - They offer peanut, matcha red bean, and red bean. I'm not a matcha girl so didn't try that one but got 2 each of the peanut and red bean ones for $1.50 each. The mochi is a good size, loved the texture and chew. I didn't see anyone included a cross section of the peanut mochi so I made sure to get one for yall. TBH the red bean was more to my taste, and I really wish they had fruit options. The peanut one had a peanutty sugar inside, which was a bit too sweet for me. They're all rolled in coconut shreds too, so they're pretty messy. Hot dog bun - The bun is big but the dogs are tiny.. Also, the bun was dry af. The scallions on top were so toasted they fell off, and the weenies were also a bit dry.. They also didn't sit up nicely on the bun, but sank down into the holes on the bread. I took a bite of it "fresh" and wasn't impressed so took it home to heat up and dip in sauce. It's super bready... and just overall boring. Wouldn't waste the dollars on this. Sesame Ball x 2 - Small for the price. Not fresh at all even though we stopped by at 9 AM. Had a good chew once reheated and red bean filling was good, but def have had waaaay better. Red Bean Mochi Biscuit - Basically a pan fried stuffed mochi. Super super soggy. I wanted BBQ pork but got red bean instead. Same filling as the sesame ball. Decent, but could have been better texturally. All of this came out to $19.09. For $20, I would have expected better.

Time for Dim Sum...because apparently every time I watch Crazy Rich Asians, my stomach turns into a…read moredramatic main character and demands dumplings immediately. Normally, I hit up Yue Huang, but lately it's been giving "long wait, mild heartbreak." So I decided to branch out and found this hidden gem in Granite Bay...and let me tell you...BEST decision. You walk in and BAM!!!! Old school Chinese restaurant vibes. Red booths, classic decor, slightly run down in that "if these walls could talk, they'd recommend everything on the menu" kind of way. And if you know, you KNOW...that's when the food is about to slap. We came with a mission (aka hungry and slightly unhinged) and ordered: baked BBQ pork buns, shumai, har gow, shrimp rice rolls, pineapple baked custard buns, fried shrimp balls, and soup dumplings. Basically, if it could be steamed, fried, or stuffed...we said yes. It's clearly family run, which I love. Mom is running the show like a boss, kids are hustling, and since it was Mother's Day...CHAOS. Delicious chaos. Food flying out, servers holding trays of dumplings like treasures, stopping at your table and you're like "YES, THIS IS MY MOMENT"...and then they walk away to another table. Emotional rollercoaster. So many "Ooooh yay!" followed by "Ohhh man..." But honestly? It just built the suspense. Then OUR food arrived...and our eyes went WIDE. These dumplings are HUGE. Like, "one bite? absolutely not" huge. The BBQ pork buns were soft, fluffy, slightly sweet clouds of happiness. Har gow and shrimp rice rolls were perfectly steamed (no soggy sadness here ). Now, because it was busy, the shrimp had a bit of a split personality...some bites were perfectly snappy and delicious, others were just a little overcooked. Not tragic, just not living their absolute best life. But overall? Everything was GOOD. And then the check came...about $60 for ALL that food. I almost checked it twice like, "Ma'am...are you sure you charged me correctly?" Because that is a STEAL. What really got me though was the family. You could see the hustle, the stress, the love...all happening in real time. Even in the chaos, they were kind, smiling, and apologizing for the wait. That kind of heart hits different. Final verdict: great food, great value, and a whole lot of love. I'll definitely be back to try more of their main dishes. Until next dumpling craving...

The dim sum was good, the place was cleaner, and owner was a super friendly and upbeat. Small family ran business! All right, let's get this messaging out there. Is it the best dim sum ever? In the world? Definitely not. Best in the Folsom/Granite Bay Area... yes! Sure you can get dim sum cheaper and probably more modern innovative dishes in South Sac. But that's 30+ miles away, one way. Best Dim Sum focuses on classic Cantonese dim sum dishes. The dim sum menu is large enough to hit all the classics including rice porridge which they have right kinds in the menu. Besides dim sum, they also have other classic Cantonese Chinese entrees and have a weekday lunch combo plate specials. If you have MSG food aversion, ask them before you order. I ordered sui mai, sticky rice in lotus leaf, egg custard, and fried sesame balls to go. The sui mai was tasty. Big, fat hunky four piece order. The fried sesame balls were heavenly delicious. Mmm. Crisp exterior with the stretchy, soft chewy rice flour crust and warm red bean paste interior. That's was a fun one to eat... the smell fried dough and then sweet paste,, the sound of the slight crackling, and sight of the all so subtle stretch. The sticky rice in lotus leaf had a ground pork filling inside but lacking the customary classic slices of salted egg and lap chon ( Chinese sausage). It was still tasty though. There was a slight ordering error with the egg custard. I ordered the Chinese style egg custard but got the Portuguese egg custard instead. I still enjoyed it! Pricing was the same, so no loss there. The difference is that the Portuguese egg custard has a puff pastry crust while the Chinese version is more of a firmer shortbread crust. But this Portuguese version had the same shortbread crust as the Chinese version. Also the Portuguese custard is sweeter and caramelized on top while the Chinese version is less sweet and not caramelized which this was. Still delicious!

UPDATE 4/6/2026…read more Prices are more transparent now than previously in the past. Menu items are more consistent now where as in the past the portion size would vary based off of your party size as I noticed before when ordering entree items. One time we had a party of two and ordered a dish and was smaller than when visiting with a party of 4. Same price you're paying you should get the same size portion regardless. Kings has made improvements over the years. The food is still great and worth going to!

The interior is as massive as ever and the dim sum carts are still rolling. What made this visit stand out was the service. The aunts and uncles working today were incredibly warm and welcoming. A few of them went out of their way to compliment our young daughters and made sure we were comfortable and taken care of the entire time. That level of friendliness wasn't always the case in the past, so this felt like a really pleasant and noticeable change. The food remains consistently solid and deeply nostalgic. Every bite brings back memories of younger days, and now it's special in a different way because we get to experience it again with our daughters. It feels like passing a small piece of the past on to the next generation. During our visit we experienced great food, genuine service, and a lot of nostalgia packed into one meal.
