Time for Dim Sum...because apparently every time I watch Crazy Rich Asians, my stomach turns into a dramatic main character and demands dumplings immediately. Normally, I hit up Yue Huang, but lately it's been giving "long wait, mild heartbreak." So I decided to branch out and found this hidden gem in Granite Bay...and let me tell you...BEST decision. You walk in and BAM!!!! Old school Chinese restaurant vibes. Red booths, classic decor, slightly run down in that "if these walls could talk, they'd recommend everything on the menu" kind of way. And if you know, you KNOW...that's when the food is about to slap. We came with a mission (aka hungry and slightly unhinged) and ordered: baked BBQ pork buns, shumai, har gow, shrimp rice rolls, pineapple baked custard buns, fried shrimp balls, and soup dumplings. Basically, if it could be steamed, fried, or stuffed...we said yes. It's clearly family run, which I love. Mom is running the show like a boss, kids are hustling, and since it was Mother's Day...CHAOS. Delicious chaos. Food flying out, servers holding trays of dumplings like treasures, stopping at your table and you're like "YES, THIS IS MY MOMENT"...and then they walk away to another table. Emotional rollercoaster. So many "Ooooh yay!" followed by "Ohhh man..." But honestly? It just built the suspense. Then OUR food arrived...and our eyes went WIDE. These dumplings are HUGE. Like, "one bite? absolutely not" huge. The BBQ pork buns were soft, fluffy, slightly sweet clouds of happiness. Har gow and shrimp rice rolls were perfectly steamed (no soggy sadness here ). Now, because it was busy, the shrimp had a bit of a split personality...some bites were perfectly snappy and delicious, others were just a little overcooked. Not tragic, just not living their absolute best life. But overall? Everything was GOOD. And then the check came...about $60 for ALL that food. I almost checked it twice like, "Ma'am...are you sure you charged me correctly?" Because that is a STEAL. What really got me though was the family. You could see the hustle, the stress, the love...all happening in real time. Even in the chaos, they were kind, smiling, and apologizing for the wait. That kind of heart hits different. Finally Returned to this restaurant! They fixed some of their service issues I had the first time I dined here. Food is delicious! The golden shrimp rice rolls are the best! This time they did have the bean curd rolls which had noodles, veggies and a little meat. I do wish there were more veggies and meats served on the hong Kong house special noodles. It's been well over a year since my last dining experience at Best Dim Sum. I heard that ownership changed since. So I decided to give them a go. Glad I did. The dim sum was good, the place was cleaner, and owner was a super friendly and upbeat. Small family ran business! All right, let's get this messaging out there. Is it the best dim sum ever? In the world? Definitely not. Best in the Folsom/Granite Bay Area... yes! Sure you can get dim sum cheaper and probably more modern innovative dishes in South Sac. But that's 30+ miles away, one way. Best Dim Sum focuses on classic Cantonese dim sum dishes. The dim sum menu is large enough to hit all the classics including rice porridge which they have right kinds in the menu. Besides dim sum, they also have other classic Cantonese Chinese entrees and have a weekday lunch combo plate specials. If you have MSG food aversion, ask them before you order. I ordered sui mai, sticky rice in lotus leaf, egg custard, and fried sesame balls to go. The sui mai was tasty. Big, fat hunky four piece order. The fried sesame balls were heavenly delicious. Mmm. Crisp exterior with the stretchy, soft chewy rice flour crust and warm red bean paste interior. That's was a fun one to eat... the smell fried dough and then sweet paste,, the sound of the slight crackling, and sight of the all so subtle stretch. The sticky rice in lotus leaf had a ground pork filling inside but lacking the customary classic slices of salted egg and lap chon ( Chinese sausage). It was still tasty though. There was a slight ordering error with the egg custard. I ordered the Chinese style egg custard but got the Portuguese egg custard instead. I still enjoyed it! Pricing was the same, so no loss there. The difference is that the Portuguese egg custard has a puff pastry crust while the Chinese version is more of a firmer shortbread crust. But this Portuguese version had the same shortbread crust as the Chinese version. Also the Portuguese custard is sweeter and caramelized on top while the Chinese version is less sweet and not caramelized which this was. Still delicious! read more

Dishes began to arrive shortly after our tea arrived. The stand out dishes were the bbq pork rice rolls, sesame balls, soy wrapped rolls, sweet rice triangle pudding, pork filled fried turnovers, and chive shrimp dumplings. Great place to get dim sum in Placer County, if you don't feel like driving to South Sac. It's a small establishment so it's best to go at opening or off-peak hours. Co-Owner Lina is awesome--super friendly and very hardworking. The first time we visited Best Dim Sum, we were amazed at how nonstop she was going! They have a huge menu including fabulous dim sum items as well as dishes such as chow fun and vegetables too! Prices are comparable to other dim sum places, we felt. Flavors were good, though everything was a little saltier than we would have liked, especially the beancurd skin roll. But maybe we're the exception. We just gulped down tons of ice water to compensate. The eggplant stuffed shrimp was good. Convenient parking, easy access to location. We enjoyed our lunch and had tons of leftovers for future meals also. Enjoyed chatting with Lina as well, which is what brought us back for a second visit! Living in the Placer County area, we don't have many choices for authentic dim sum restaurants. You can always find Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, etc restaurants, but if I want dim sum, I'd always have to head into Sacramento or the Bay Area. The menu has all of the typical Chinese dishes but there is a section for dim sum. That's what I came here for. We ordered, shrimp dumplings (har gow), shrimp chive dumplings, shrimp rice roll, eggplant stuffed with shrimp paste, bean curd skin roll, beef tripes, house special chow fun, and Chinese broccoli with garlic sauce. I know that's a lot of food, but we were looking forward to having leftovers to take home. It wasn't long before our food started arriving. OMG, I was in heaven. Everything tasted amazing. My faves today were the eggplant and shrimp chive dumplings. The only slight complaint that I had was that the bean curd skin roll was slightly undercooked and a little too salty. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier. Now I've got this great little gem of a dim sum restaurant nearby and I don't have to drive all the way to Sacramento to get authentic dim sum. Win-win! As a Chinese, I approve this place. We tried their beancurd roll, golden shrimp roll and beef chow fun. Beef chow fun, in order to know a good Chinese food, it always starts with the basics. The chow fun was good, a little too oily but the flavor was good except it needed some wok hei. Our favorite was the golden shrimp rice roll, it was so good. Do we have betters yes. Been wanting to give this place a try for quite some time now. Finally went in for lunch yesterday. Yum! Very friendly and fast service. Glad to get the last available booth rather than a regular table. Served our food piping hot as it was prepared and ready. We had sesame balls, steamed BBQ pork buns, shui mai, Shanghai dumplings and chive shrimp dumplings, plus hot jasmine tea. All were delicious and the portions were quite sizable. All of that for less than $50 for two of us (including tax and tip) ~ screaming deal for how expensive things are these days! The BBQ buns, shui mai and Shanghai dumplings were by far my favorites and the tea was delicious but nuclear hot when it came out so it took a while to be able to enjoy it. Knocked one star because the soy sauce bottle was super sticky and gross, like maybe never ever wiped clean. And there was a huge bowl of raw meat on the back booth table the entire time we were there (they were making shui mai, it looked like), but just seemed weird that it was out and unrefrigerated for so long ~ and in front of house. I've seen many Yelp friends give great reviews for Best Dim Sum, so we had to visit when. We were in the area. We came for lunch right when the opened and we were seated right away. The inside had tables and booths. Each table had utensils, soy sauce, and hot chili oil. We ordered shumai, Shanghai meat dumplings, beef rice roll , and lotus wrapped sticky rice. All were great. The rice roll and sticky rice were our favorites. The Shanghai meat dumplings were a little small though. Service was fantastic. The owner was so friendly and kind. Thanks to Yelp I discovered this place while searching for good eats in the area. I drove an hour round trip to have lunch here. I am glad I did. I sat in an old school booth and ordered three different dim sum dishes. Had planned to order more however some of serving sizes are larger than typical dim sum serving of three pieces. I got steam pork buns and they hit the spot. Best I have had in quite a while. Nice amount of high quality char siu. I got the eggplant stuffed with shrimp and was served four really big pieces. Tasty and satisfied my craving for shrimp. Finally I got the stuffed bean curd rolls and their version was different than I am used to and I liked the change. Based on other Yelp reviews, we opted to give this a try since it was closer than our usual dim sum restaurants in south Sacramento. A quaint little Chinese cafe. Classic country music was playing in the background, which seems to fit the vibe of Granite Bay. The menu had a fairly extensive selections of dim sum and some traditional Chinese dishes. DTF still has the best dipping sauce that no one have been able to compare. Shrimp chow fun: my kiddos like it but maybe they were super hungry. My daughter ate the shrimp. The food was decent but both salt n pepper dishes were kind of bland so I topped it off with their chili oil. If you like onions they do pile on a lot of it but it needs to be cooked more. I've been wanting to try their dim sum when I'm in the area visiting and last night was the night! We arrived around 5pm and the place was very quiet. We were seated right away and honestly I was ready to move in by the end of our meal. The customer service was absolutely amazing. Our waitress, who I believe is also one of the owners, treated us like family and with SO much extra love and kindness. She brought my son his own set of utensils, a plate, a tray, and a child's cup. She was so gracious with him and us and was such a joy to talk to. The food was good as well. I have high standards of dim sum since I was raised in the bay and we had really good and authentic dim sum options in SF. Their chive and shrimp dumplings and the steamed pork buns were my favorite that we ordered. We also got the suimai which was good but had some gristley parts that I didn't love. The ribs weren't for me personally but they did have good flavor. We also got the Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce which was a little undercooked but we asked them to just cook it a bit longer and was perfect once it came back out. This is a business that I would happily support because they deserve it with their hospitality and kindness. We ordered a variety of dim sum, and one dish from the regular menu. The pork buns- these were tasty! They weren't served with any dipping sauce. The bbq pork was tasty, but there wasn't much in the bun. The sesame balls- these are controversial. I love sesame balls. These were too hard to actually enjoy. The filling was good. I've had much better. The bean curd skin rolls- these are filled with pork, beef, and shrimp. We found them to be underwhelming and missing something. Beef chow fun- this was a super generous portion, fresh vegetables, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. Large pieces of perfectly cooked beef. Super tasty. Egg tarts- these are a tad underwhelming as well. They were OK, but not anything that I would order again. I love egg tarts, and I found that the crust was overdone, and the tart itself was lacking that custardy egg flavor. Lina is sweet, somewhat reserved, and she runs the front of the house on her own. The food is all made to order, which makes this hole in the wall a good find. We both would rate the overall experience with about 3 1/2 stars. A modest mom-and-pop eatery with a bold name located in a strip plaza with ample parking. You can order online and pay when you pick up your order which was very convenient. The order was ready at the scheduled time which is great. This place offers quite a large selection of dim sum items. Although the actual size of the items were a bit smaller than the typical dim sum you find elsewhere, I actually didn't mind it at all because of the thinner wrapper/dough and generous fillings. The fried pork dumplings for example were bite-size but loaded with flavorful fillings. It was one of the tastiest one I have had. Pretty much everything that we orders was very good and up to par. It's not a large space but neat and clean as a pin. Nice location in a strip shopping center in Granite Bay on Folsom-Auburn Road. Lots of easy parking.
