Chicken Pad Thai
Matthew K.

Came here for lunch today with some friends--two of them had never had Thai food before, and they loved it! I think this is our third or fourth time at Thai Orchid, and it never disappoints. My wife and I consider ourselves a bit snobbish when it comes to Thai, and our litmus test is always the chicken Panang curry and chicken Pad Thai. Both were delicious today, as usual. Thai Canteen in Midtown is still our favorite, but this place is a very close second. Definitely one of our go-tos whenever we get a hankering for Thai food.

3/26/24. Pad Thai Chicken & Shrimp Lunch price $11.25+. M-Sat. Comes w/ semi-crispy curry pop. Authentic! Flavorful! PHENOMENAL!

3/26/24. Fiancé called ahead of time and ordered. Got there around 12:45PM. I can't tell you if it was busy or ambiance of the place cause I wasn't the one who went in and picked up the order. 5/5 stars. Pad Thai Chicken and Shrimp Lunch price $11.25+. 11AM to 3PM. Monday to Saturday. - Served with curry pop (type of a small semi-crispy, curry empanada). You can still order Pad Thai during their normal business hours but the price will go up to $12.75 to $13+. Still not bad! Especially how authentic I feel this place is through their Pad Thai. I think they use fresh ingredients because we ate it all and it didn't make us feel sleepy nor drowsy. I loved all the flavors. I can taste the shrimp, chicken and lalalalove the taste of the egg! The subtle yet umami flavor of sweet and savory makes you want to eat more. IT IS THAT DELICIOUS!!! It's been a while since I had pad thai and this spot gotsss it! On point! 5/5 stars. Shrimp Hot & Sour Soup. $8+ cup size - It does kind of taste like Tom Yum soup except some things were missing: maybe tamarind, lemon grass and spice level? Not sure, but I still really loved it! It has mushrooms, pieces of tomatoes, and strands of onions for texture. Loved the soup! Not too over powering. They gave 2 pieces of shrimp. My mouth is salivating as I type this! Lol. If I'm in the area, I would definitely come back! Happy eat's ya'll! =)

Perfect takeout packaging 10-3-23. Looking forward to trying the surprise candy during the day, just in case it has caffeine. Haha

First visit tonight, takeout. Called ahead and the man who answered was epitome of Thai = polite, soft-spoken, service-oriented. He was able to answer all of my questions without issue. With veggie and chicken Tom kha soup, no seafood Tom kha, I opted for yellow curry chicken ($14) and brown rice ($3). One question I asked was if the curry was enough for two. His answer was perfect. He felt no, but everything about the call, my intuition that he's likely the owner of a locally-owned business and running the show solo, and the fact this Thai spot was in my bookmarks for a while, I ordered. The curry was more liquid than sauce and larger pieces of solid foods than expected but perfect medium spice (as requested) and the flavor was excellent. It'll make 1.25 to 1.5 servings for me. I'm happy. I plan to return. Khxbkhuṇ (Translation: thank you)

The restaurant should invest in sourcing better rice in my opinion. The pad kee Mao was underwhelming and overly seasoned in sweetness. Maybe I asked for mild spice which might have threw off the balance of the flavors? I did like the tom kha (coconut soup) and that was probably the best dish out of the whole meal. This place seems to attract older clientele such as retirees. And that will be the kind of energy to expect when dining there. Those who seek a nicer ambiance and quiet setting will appreciate this place.

My first time trying food at the restaurant! I have had their food prior at my cousin's place and it was delicious! Was greeted and seated right away! Nice clean restaurant, looks smalls but they have a lot of space inside. Ordered chicken satay, radna noodles n avocado chicken curry! Every dish was wonderful! Chicken satay was tasty and the dipping condiments were yummy! Beautiful presentation! Radna noodles were wide flat noods in a thick egg gravy with Chinese broccoli and chicken! Was very tasty and I asked for the spice rack to give it that extra kick! Only issue was with the avocado curry, it had PLENTY of vegetables and VERY LITTLE chicken. If I am paying a almost $20 for it, vegetables n chicken ratio should match. Staff was very nice and checked in on my friend and I Every 15 minutes. The menu is quite extensive! I am sure all the other dishes are just as tasty!

Sometimes this spells out trouble because I want to order the whole menu instead of a sensible amount of food. On my latest visit I ordered takeout and got the Tom Kha Soup with tofu ($13.50), Green Curry with tofu ($13.50), Kao Soy ($13.50), House Chow Fun with tofu ($13.50), Thai Tea ($4.50), and Thai Iced Coffee ($4.50). It was a lot of food, but I've learned House of Thai Rice & Noodle is best enjoyed family style where you get to enjoy a few things. The pricing is very reasonable for the portions and the flavor on the dishes is so good! I don't know what they do with their Chow Fun, but the noodles were so flavorful, soft and fluffy and didn't need any extra sauce. The Tom Kha soup is a comfort food for me and this is always a great option. I forgot to order rice with my curry, but eating it like a soup is equally satisfying. The Kao Soy was flavorful and the noodles were great with the broth and toppings. I've dined in and gotten take out and both are great experiences. The team here is so friendly and welcoming. When I order takeout, I typically order at the restaurant and wait and they always have me sit at a table and offer water or another drink while I wait. I do love dining in because the dishes are at their freshest and it makes for better photos. The dining are has plenty of seats and it comfortable. The plaza also has plenty of parking, but the spots nearest to the restaurant tend to fill up. If you're thinking about stopping here, try it, you won't be disappointed!

I've tried a lot of spots around here since I work nearby, and this has been on my list for a while because of how highly it's regarded. It was busy at lunchtime, but we were seated immediately and brought iced waters. The menu is huge with a lot of great classic options. We ordered the angel wings (personal favorite), pad see ew with fried tofu, and red curry with fried tofu and rice. Everything came out very quickly and was nicely plated. The curry had a great mix of vegetables, always love the tender eggplant the most, and it was rich, but not overly heavy, with great flavor. The pad see ew was also delicious, smokey, and had a nice mix of cabbage and broccoli, which I've never seen before but actually really liked. It was nice getting something other than just straight noodles. Angel wings are a longtime favorite and brought me right back to childhood dinners at Thai restaurants with my family. Not every spot has them, so I had to order them when I saw them on the menu. They were delicious, just how I remembered, and plated nicely with a light, flavorful sauce. The food overall was excellent and service was attentive. My only note is I should've asked for spice. I think they assumed we didn't want any heat, which is probably typical for most people, but I definitely prefer some spice in my Thai food and I appreciate when they ask. We were also two people at a six-person table since that's all that was available, so felt a little bad about that. Toward the end, they sat a single diner with us, which was a bit awkward to be honest, but luckily we were finishing up. Overall really good experience. Just remember to ask for spice if you want it, and maybe consider takeout if it's busy and don't want to share a table.

The restaurant is nice and clean and comfortable. Very simply and tastefully decorated and the staff were pleasant and let us take our time getting settled in to the menu. We all ordered their cream cheese wontons to share, and they were so good, we ordered two more orders! They were more flavorful, with the addition of garlic, than the usual ones you get at other restaurants, and we all really enjoyed them! The curries my step granddaughters ordered looked heavenly and they really liked them, and my husband ordered his favorite dish, Thai basil beef, my father and mother in law and I ordered pineapple shrimp and chicken fried rice, and my stepson ordered a curry dish. We all really enjoyed them and their servings are HUGE! We all took home leftovers, which was a plus! Be prepared for large servings! The only drawback (if you want to consider it that) to our dinner was the level of spiciness here. Fr those of us who ordered mild heat, it was way more spicy than we are used to, so, if you aren't a fan of very spicy Thai food, be aware and order it with none. My father and mother in law, who are in their mid 80's, were smart and ordered their fried rice with no spice. I've never been to a Thai restaurant (one of my favorite cuisines!) that had such spicy mil. I just thought I'd warn my fellow Yelpers who are sensitive to hot and spicy food. We all left happy and really enjoyed our food. Oh, their Thai iced tea is delicious and is a very reasonable price, compared to other Thai restaurants.

It was happy hour, so we enjoyed $1 off shumai and curry puffs. This was my friend's first time trying both, and all disappeared in both of our bellies! The curry puffs were filled with potatoes and vegetables, with the perfect hint of spice. Their Pad Thai is exactly how I like it, not too sweet and tangy. Our protein was shrimp and they serve such a large quantity that I had delicious leftovers for three days! We dined outside and enjoyed their large patio, and service from beginning to end was excellent, so much that one of the employees asked us if we wanted dessert in the end and excitedly convinced us to order the mango with the black sticky rice.
