This was a solid 3.7. We actually intended to go to the Rose Garden across the street but they were closed for vacation so we thought we would try here. It's funny because we sat there the whole time comparing the two. The chow mein here was heads and tales better along with the foil wrapped chicken and bbq pork rib. I also preferred the fried rice and the wonton soup over the garden. They came in pretty equal for egg rolls, fried prawns and beef skewer. Where the Rose Garden wins is the cream cheese wontons and the honey walnut shrimp. The shrimp was the whole reason we were going over there. We were thinking about it ever since we ate it last time lol. Chopsticks is good but it's not near as good as the other. I didn't care for the General Tso chicken, I would definitely try something else next time. The prices are a bit high but comparable. I was sad that they wouldn't give us an option to have the walnut shrimp as part of a combo plate or the family dinner. We paid $75 for a two person poopoo platter, an order of cream cheese wontons, a combo plate and an order of honey shrimp. It was enough for 3 people with a small amount of leftovers. We would definitely try here again, just wish we had more options for the combo plates. They didn't even allow orange chicken on there . The service was just ok. Our waitress only came over to deliver the food, she didn't come back and ever ask if we needed anything or to refill the drinks. The ambience is typical Chinese food place decor.

Everything was pretty great! I canreally dox much because of not having the meat egg rolls and the King Pow Beef had a lot of water chestnuts and needed a bit more beef. Service was pretty good, not too much space or being ignored when we went. Ambiance was simple, warm, and familiar.

Bbq pork fried rice, Peking short ribs, and orange chicken

Friendly and courteous staff with decent food and a clean space. I stopped by here on a business trip for my craving of orange chicken based upon others' recommendations. I recognize orange chicken is not an authentic Chinese dish but I just had a childhood nostalgic hankering. Also ordered some bbq pork fried rice and Peking ribs to round out my splurge. Hate to admit the orange chicken ended up being the disappointment, as it was dry and not very flavorful, but the ribs and fried rice were pretty good! The pork in both dishes was tender and moist, and the fried rice remained soft even after traveling to my hotel. I think I've learned my lesson and will stick to the authentic dishes. Looking forward to coming back and trying some other recommended plates.

I had honestly given up on finding a good Chinese restaurant but after a friends recommendation I decided to try one last place and I'm so glad I did! The portions are huge and the flavor is amazing, will definitely be coming back probably far too often. Highly recommend!!

Since it was our first time, we ordered a bunch of items to try. The pan-fried pork buns: were a highlight! Crispy on the bottom, soft on top, and filled with a clean, juicy soup that didn't have that heavy ginger taste. The soup dumplings xlbs had perfect, delicate skins and were incredibly juicy; the classic pork and the crab & pork were my favorites. The pork xlb had tender meat and was juicy, flavor was clean, the crab one is definitely for the seafood lovers, it has a nice SF umaminess too like a crab roe fishball lol. Other standouts included the spicy wontons in a great chili oil sauce and the truffle Angus beef fried rice, which featured surprisingly tender beef and a subtle, well-balanced truffle flavor. For dessert, the chocolate xlb, was excellent and tasted just like a strawberry Nutella crepe, though the matcha version was a bit too concentrated and bitter for my liking. Overall, the food came out quickly, the staff was friendly, and the service was great. I'll definitely be coming back soon!

unfortunately, Din Tai Fung has kinda ruined all other restaurants that serve XLBs for me…read more I dropped by Uncle Dumpling for lunch on a Saturday. There's a nice parking lot and, the collection of restaurants/stores in this little plaza give a nice vibe. There isn't a ton of seating inside; you kinda get an idea from some of the various Yelp pics.... and, there are a couple tables outside as well. The Food: - Pork Xiao Long Bao: this was fine...... I guess it's about as good as my memory of Journey to the Dumpling. Honestly, I'd say it's in the ballpark of goodness as the frozen Mila XLBs you can buy at Costco. again, Din Tai Fung has kinda ruined XLBs everywhere else I've gone since no one else comes close. - Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao: this had an odd tanginess to it.. like there was a bit of kimchi in it or something... I didn't care for it (and, I do happen to love kimchi).. and, it wasn't very spicy either. pass on this one. - Spicy Wonton: this was probably the best thing I had here. it was fine. not particularly spicy. and a bit salty. but, it was fine. - Pan-Fried Juicy Pork Buns: I think the filling in this is the same as the XLBs... you just get it in a pan-fried bun instead. I think I actually preferred the regular XLBs bc the larger size of this thing made it kinda hard to eat. - Garlic Noodle: I don't know what I was expecting here... and, I know I shouldn't expect Crustacean (just like I shouldn't expect Din Tai Fung) bc this certainly wasn't anything like Crustacean. These were okay.... the flavor of oyster sauce dominated my palate in an unpleasant way. - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings: these were okay. they ask if you want them spicy or mild. I got mine mild, but I probably should've gotten it spicy. The outside was nice and crispy, but the wing itself was kinda bland despite being covered with chopped garlic. Other things: - The food comes out fairly quickly & scalding hot..... so, don't burn your mouth! - I'd never really thought about it before, but every place that serves XLBs should also have spoons with flat bottoms; this place does not have flat-bottomed spoons. I like to rest my XLBs in my soup spoon while it cools, and since these spoons had rounded bottoms, my dumpling was always kinda lying sideways. - There's only one single-room unisex bathroom in the back, which is probably fine for the size of the restaurant; though, I did get stuck waiting behind a couple people when I needed to use it. so, I guess if you're not an XLB snob like myself & find Journey to the Dumpling and frozen Mila XLBs to be fantastic, then you may like this place quite a bit.... but I was rather disappointed....

Normally, I hit up Yue Huang, but lately it's been giving "long wait, mild heartbreak." So I decided to branch out and found this hidden gem in Granite Bay...and let me tell you...BEST decision. You walk in and BAM!!!! Old school Chinese restaurant vibes. Red booths, classic decor, slightly run down in that "if these walls could talk, they'd recommend everything on the menu" kind of way. And if you know, you KNOW...that's when the food is about to slap. We came with a mission (aka hungry and slightly unhinged) and ordered: baked BBQ pork buns, shumai, har gow, shrimp rice rolls, pineapple baked custard buns, fried shrimp balls, and soup dumplings. Basically, if it could be steamed, fried, or stuffed...we said yes. It's clearly family run, which I love. Mom is running the show like a boss, kids are hustling, and since it was Mother's Day...CHAOS. Delicious chaos. Food flying out, servers holding trays of dumplings like treasures, stopping at your table and you're like "YES, THIS IS MY MOMENT"...and then they walk away to another table. Emotional rollercoaster. So many "Ooooh yay!" followed by "Ohhh man..." But honestly? It just built the suspense. Then OUR food arrived...and our eyes went WIDE. These dumplings are HUGE. Like, "one bite? absolutely not" huge. The BBQ pork buns were soft, fluffy, slightly sweet clouds of happiness. Har gow and shrimp rice rolls were perfectly steamed (no soggy sadness here ). Now, because it was busy, the shrimp had a bit of a split personality...some bites were perfectly snappy and delicious, others were just a little overcooked. Not tragic, just not living their absolute best life. But overall? Everything was GOOD. And then the check came...about $60 for ALL that food. I almost checked it twice like, "Ma'am...are you sure you charged me correctly?" Because that is a STEAL. What really got me though was the family. You could see the hustle, the stress, the love...all happening in real time. Even in the chaos, they were kind, smiling, and apologizing for the wait. That kind of heart hits different. Final verdict: great food, great value, and a whole lot of love. I'll definitely be back to try more of their main dishes. Until next dumpling craving...

One was displaying beautiful sceanaries from the Himalayas and that captured my attention for the longest time. Soon our food came. We ordered the steamed Chicken Momos, the Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Naan and they all looked very good. We liked the curry, and the momos were fun to eat. It's a bit different but also very similiar to a Chinese bao. The Momo has much thiner skin and the filling tasted slightly different from a plain meat bao.
