04.26.26 Mama (that's me) was in the mood for some Chinese, so instead of taking hubby for a sit down spot in Roseville/Granite Bay I've been meaning to take him to, we opted for takeout close to home. We've tried several spots in the area after our typical go-to hadn't been great the last few times we ordered. So, I turned to my trusty Yelp and found Pearl House. Hubs knew exactly where it was--next door to Grocery Outlet. I thought it was closed last time we were at GC, like closed closed. So when we saw pics from 3days ago, we knew that wasn't the case. Being 7pm on a Sunday, we saw they closed at 9pm. So, looked at their menu online, we decided on our order: Hubs' go-to whenever trying a new place is General Tso's Chicken, and I tried something new-Happy Family because I was in the mood for a protein variety dish, and this had quite the variety: scallop, shrimp, calamari, crabmeat, chicken, BBQ pork, and beef with a plethora or veggies. We also wanted egg rolls. I called and a lady answered, took my order, and said it'd be ready in 10min. Didn't take my name or number-wow! Not only did I think that was kinda crazy, but TEN minutes?!?! This was either gunna blow my mind or be horrible. We drove over and upon entering there were a few people inside leaving--not sure if they were also to-go or has finished eating there. I looked around and saw many empty tables, but clean looking dining room area. A lady behind the counter wearing a face mask asked to help me. I let her know I was there to pick up, and she asked what I ordered. Our order was already boxed up ready to go. Our total? $41 before tip. I asked her if they did sit down, she confirmed yes. Then I told her it was my first time in there, to which she asked where I lived and that they've been there for 37 YEARS! Then she said she hopes we like our food and to see us again. I grabbed a to-go menu and went on my way. The food smelled good and when we got home, I grabbed my own chopsticks and hot chili oil, and was ready to grub. In the box, besides our ordered food, they included sweet & sour sauce for the egg rolls, as well as soy sauce packets and individually wrapped fortune cookies. I first went for an eggroll, which was surprisingly longer in length than most other places. Took a bite and enjoyed that wonderful crispy outside texture, and saw it was veggie only inside--whomp, whomp. In my mind, these should really be called spring rolls. However, these had some REALLY great flavor!! Hubs enjoys meat in his rolls, but after explaining the flavor, he still tried one himself and was quite happy with it. He had taken a bite of his GT Chicken and said it was pretty good. He said it tasted a little too sweet, almost dessert-y, but that it was also really good. I tried a small piece and liked how crispy it was even in all the sweet sauciness. Then I opened my dish and boy oh boy did it look good. Now before I talk about how it tasted, I need to explain what I thought I was getting. The menu said all those proteins I mentioned, and that it was tossed with snow pea pods, broccoli tips, mushrooms (which I ordered without) and baby corn. All veggies I enjoy! So, what my dish actually came with (as you can see in my pic), there was onions, carrots, celery, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, NO calamari or baby corn or BBQ pork. That all said, I was most disappointed in not having the calamari, BBQ pork or baby corn. Sad, yes. But the overall dish made up for it. With that, I was not mad AT ALL, and surprisingly ate the entire thing in one sitting--NOT a usual thing for me!! Granted, I hadn't eaten since breakfast, but still. It was DEE-LICIOUS and I'll say Dee-approved!! I'm literally writing this review immediately after eating dinner because it was THAT good y'all! I couldn't not let my people know that Pearl House is legit and it's obvious why they've been around for 37 years. This may be our new go-to spot for that neighborhood Chinese food craving, IJS. So, if you're in the area and looking for some authentic Chinese cuisine, look no further and check out Pearl House for yourself. We most definitely will be back. P.S. We want to thank everybody in this establishment so so much! My family traveled for the holidays and returned early due to weather. We weren't prepared to make a dinner tonight (on Christmas day) so we ordered from here. My husband picked it up and said he has never in his life seen a place so busy. He also encountered one of those entitled "I ordered first and it's a big order so let me scream at you while you're visibly slammed" types while waiting. I love my husband for politely setting him straight...the irony of someone complaining about the wait time while demanding more food for free due to the wait. The lady behind the counter never lost her smile even with the verbal attacks and non stop phone and walk in orders. Everything we got was still hot and tasted great. Lots of food, we always do the family combo meals and substitute for the spicy general chicken which has been the exact same recipe since I was a kid. Service was very good, inside was very clean and had a pretty fish tank to look at but the food was just okay. Over all it all tasted good but it just didn't fully wow me. I came here for the chow main and I will say that was great, everything I wanted. However my ragoons and potstickers were a bit under whelming. The potstickers were thicker than I have ever seen, like HUGE. Although I enjoyed the taste they were oddly large and therefor doughier than your typical potsticker. Additionally for the ragoons they were just thinner than I like mine but tasted very good. Over all I was satisfied with my meal but would go back for the chow-main over anything. read more

good chinese food! 1. Got the half roast duck - 3.5/5 have good flavor and isn't dry like some other restaurants but of course it doesn't compare to a fresh, hanging duck from those mom/pop places 2. Great tasting, freshly made and food always comes out hot. Great prices for the combo plates that come with soup, egg roll, chowmein, fried rice and one entree. Service is always great. One of my favorite Chinese food places in that area. Ordered the orange chicken combo plate and Kung Pao chicken combo. Orange chicken was good but they have two options: original and spicy which is a darker sauce. Both have good flavors but I would recommend the original one which is lighter sauce and has more of an original orange chicken flavor. The spicy is similar to a general chicken with a light hint of orange flavor. Kung pao was very good and cooked to perfection in the right amount of sauce. Great prices! read more

4.5 stars. We've been here twice now, and both have been enjoyable experiences. We have been searching for a replacement for our beloved/missed Silver Dragon, and Pearl House is at least a spiritual successor to the old location, with its wood-paneled walls. Their Family Dinner gives you a reasonable amount of food with good flavors, prepared well. The lemon chicken is panko-breaded with a non-cloying lemon sauce which is very nice - the Beef w/ Hot Garlic Sauce is similarly refreshing. The hot & sour soup is not to be dismissed and better than I expected. Fresh appetizers, good service and tea completed the pleasant meals. My husband put these in his vows so I had to come and try. It was very good. The hot and sour soup could have been more sour but it was still good. The General Chicken was crunchy and flavorful but not spicy . The Szechuan Chicken I thought would be more spicy but was very delicious. But the crab and cream cheese wontons are so e of the best I've ever had. I love the shape of them and they are so creamy and the onion pops in flavor. The service was great!! Order the lunch combination plate. The chicken is overly sweet and soggy. The fried rice is hard and dry and tastes like it's been sitting for hours. The chow mein is mushy and has no flavor at all. If you can't get the fried rice and chow mein right it's a no-go for me. Yuck! read more

My wife and I went to Pearl House Sunday evening and the food was great. We have eaten at dozens of Chinese food restaurants in Northern California and can think of only two which in our opinion beats Pearl House. My wife and I each had the #1 Combo which includes a nice sized Egg Roll, Pork Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein, and Sweet and Sour Pork. The food was piled up on the plate and most people cannot eat it all at one sitting. My wife commented that the food didn't taste salty. She is on a low salt diet, so that was important for her. Our #1 combo cost us $12.95 each, so with 2 cans of soda and a tip the total for 2 people was $35.00 out the door. Service is very good also. We will be back to try their other dishes. We were seated immediately and the service was pretty quick since the restaurant wasn't too busy. - Chicken with salted fish fried rice: the portion was generous regarding the price. Hubby asked for more salted fish and they did deliver. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. There were plenty of chicken & salted fish pieces. - Sweet & sour chicken: the chicken had crispy coating and it was juicy. The sweet & sour sauce was tossed perfectly to coat each pieces. This is our favorite place to get Chinese food. We've tried different dishes and they've never disappointed. Last night, I had a little bit of the chow mein with some of the shrimp that came inside of it as well as some chicken and broccoli. My husband also had some bbq pork fried rice. Yum! We've been going there since 1992 when our kids were young. Best crab wontons in the Sacramento area. I rate every other Asian restaurant if they have lemon chicken as good as Pearl House. We had been going for so long that we got a bamboo calendar from them every year. I still miss having it on my wall. We were pleasantly surprised when we sat down to dinner at Pearl House. The specials (green beans + meat stir fry) used the freshest produce. The chow mein was a perfect balance of noodles and other ingredients. Kung Pow Chicken was good too. One waitress covered the dining and take-out, but she was cheerful and prompt. The place itself was clean and pleasant. We watched a young family and their child fascinated by the fish tank ("Which one do you want to eat?" asked the dad). All in all a place I wouldn't mind revisiting. One side note: I most often get take-out, but dining in the restaurant itself meant we could fully appreciate the hot, fresh food. Shrimp severely overcooked and dried out, not edible ; ribs inconsistent as one was nicely cooked and the second one tasted days OLD and dried out; cream cheese won ton tasted like it was fried in same oil as the chicken.Lacked adequate sauces. I came to Pearl House on 11/22/21 while visiting a family friend with my middle sister and her daughter (my niece). My mom wanted us to bring her a plate back from Sacramento and wanted Chinese food. We asked her where and she was like "Surprise Me". Yelp led us here as they got pretty good reviews. I didn't go inside as I stayed with my niece in the car while family friend and sister went in to order. I didn't want to order the wrong things for my Ma so I left it up to my sister. They came back shortly with the food and asked them what they ordered. A combination plate of noodles, fried rice, orange chicken as it smelled absolutely delicious. Chinese food is my least favorite cuisine. But, My sister knows we all foodies up in the car and ordered a second plate we could all try yay! I've been coming here for years. Back in the day when I worked in the area I sat down for lunch with friends and coworkers, this was about 10 + years ago, but now I always order in the evening, because I live nearby now, and only grab food in the evening for dinner. I don't know what it feels like to dine in anymore but the ladies that run the restaurant never changed. The food is always delicious and fresh.
