I wanted to have lunch at Silver Dragon. I have been eating at the other location until it closed. I ordered the wor wonton soup. Just the right amount of ham, chicken, veggies, and wonton. It was really good. I usually get the Mongolian beef but I couldn't eat a lot that day. The server was really nice. I ordered a Coke. I told her I didn't want the hot tea. she let me eat without bugging me about the food. she check on me two times. she boxed my leftovers...thank you. The space was nice. I sat at a table. There is bar seating if you like that. there were quite a few people there so some chatter but not too much. I can't wait to come back. next time I will get my usual wor wonton and Mongolian beef. I got a fortune cookie but can't tell you what the fortune said, because it won't come true! read more

Top of the line Chinese food, top of the line service. Easy to order on the phone and your order is ready within 15 minutes. Pick up is smooth and my order has never had an error. The food is always hot and delicious. This is a staple in fair oaks, and i would even drive out of my way to this spot if I lived outside of fair oaks. We went to dinner at Silver Dragon yesterday, for the first time, and the food was delicious. The potstickers were cooked perfectly, the sesame chicken was the best I have ever tasted. I'm no super-taster or anything, but I like to think I have a particular appreciation for Chinese food, both authentic and Americanized variants. After recently considering a move to Fair Oaks, we thought we better scope out the local Chinese food choices and Silver Dragon came right up. I'm glad it did! The chow mein was no ordinary noodles, achieving the rare quality where the sauce is just so *flavorful* you really feel like you couldn't just make some noodles at home and achieve the same thing. The pot stickers were the style with very thick (obviously home made) wrappers but they managed to still be flavorful and not taste *too* doughy, even though they aren't my preferred style. The orange chicken, on the other hand, was a style I can heartily recommend (as long as you aren't on a health kick), with a thick coating that manages to be crispy on the outside despite being covered in sauce so sweet and thick it evokes eating literal honey. I took a moment to appreciate the jouney this recipe took to arrive here and wondered "Did someone really just start adding sugar until it seemed sweet enough for silly Americans? Is this what they think of us? Do we deserve this?" I decided we do, and it is awesome. That said, the most interesting thing about Silver Dragon is the sense that woven through their menu there is a personal touch. Now I only ate there once and we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 mains, so this isn't a large number of data points, but no fewer than three times I found myself surprised to detect a hint of plum sauce I didn't expect. I first noticed it in the unique and delicious pot sticker sauce we were served. Then, I found it also on the paper wrapped chicken, which was also quite good and well worth the frustration to unwrap and eat without burning your hands. But perhaps most surprising was to also find it in the orange chicken - It was decidedly orange, but the notes of plum were also unmistakable to me. Maybe I'm just hallucinating from my sugar coma, but after eating here I feel like the chef took me on a journey to plum town, and it is a locale I wish to visit again. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty crowded. We were seated shortly, the service was good, and everyone seemed friendly. The server boxed up our leftovers for us, a nice touch many restaurants don't bother with anymore. I don't want to exaggerate, I wouldn't get on a plane to go to Silver Dragon, but I will definitely be frequenting this establishment if I live in the area! read more

A solid 3. Nothing too unique about this place, but the standard lunch specials are always a good deal. It is good that, even though this is their new location, they have not changed their recipes. While the food is fairly typical, the hot and sour soup is some of the best in Sacramento. My little sister and I would always get the hot and sour soup when sick...or raining...or days ending in "y." Good news!!! The recipe is the same. Still delicious soup. I did not love this place. We've been looking for a new Chinese restaurant buy the house and unfortunately this one disappointed. The first issue was that it was way too hot in the restaurant, it actually felt warmer inside that it was outside. We did not care for the food at all. The Mongolian beef was cooked fresh, just bland. The rice has a very odd taste to it. I have to say that the restaurant was busy, so maybe we were just the odd balls out. read more

My parents would take us to the Silver Dragon since we were little kids, and we grew up loving their sizzling rice soup, sesame chicken, mushu, and fried rice. We visited so often that the restaurant family all recognized us as we grew up. Tonight I went to pick up takeout for my family during a visit home to see my mom, who is terminally ill. :( We're trying to give her all her favorite meals in her last months. The owner remembered me and said I looked just like my mom. When I shared the sad news about her, he looked heartbroken and told me of his own stories of family loss in the past year, sharing his sincere personal advice. It was heartwarming. Our family got to enjoy the food together at home in the backyard, all grateful that the recipes and quality have stayed the same all these years. This review isn't based on one meal. We've been eating regularly here and their previous location for over 25 years and had hundreds of meals, and I could count on one hand the number of times an order has come inaccurately or unsatisfactory. While the prices have unavoidably gone up after the pandemic and the opening of their new location, the consistent high quality and portions and excellent service keep us happily coming back, and we're so glad they opened back up in their new location. Their specialties are the walnut shrimp/chicken, but we think they have the best orange chicken around. I'd recommend giving them a try on their lunch special to get a good selection of their flavors, at a great price. read more

My wife decided to try this place for dinner last night. We have driven by several times and wanted to try someplace new. We were pleasantly surprised! The service was outstanding. Our tea and water glasses were constantly filled, without being asked. We were helped by several different people, felt taken care of without feeling smothered. The food came quickly even though it was fairly busy. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and crisp. And best of all, they didn't overload the entrees with celery. A big petpeeve of mine. They had some but it was minimal, and actually enhanced the texture rather than obliterated it, so thank you. Serving sizes were large and the price was right. Fast an great service. I am a loyal customer of another Chinese restaurant, so I had my speculations of this place, but I was not disappointed. I do like there hot an sour soup, it's flavorful and zesty. Their honey walnut shrimp is very good and their kung pow chicken is also very good. They have a great lunch plate special, great bang for your buck! I loved their pot sticker an their dumplings. They are fast to! We did not have to wait long to be seated and served . I've yet to get around to dining in here, but I did a couple times at their old location (they used to be near the Rite Aid in Citrus Heights). I love this place for lunch take out! I've had very good experiences with their General Chicken, and especially the chicken with hot garlic oil! My usual takeout lunch order is the chicken with hot garlic oil and pork chow mein. I just recently noticed them using slightly less meat, putting a little bit less food in their take out boxes, but if that's what businesses have to do to keep their prices down and quality still high with the way food is increasing, I'm all for it! One of these days I'll get around to trying the Kung Pao chicken, and the fried rice, or maybe one of the Clay Pot menu items, but I can't recommend the hot garlic chicken with the pork chow mein enough. The sauce from the hot garlic chicken coats the chow mein well, and it's just so, so good. read more

Very disappointing. Got our dinners home and they left out egg rolls. (Sauce but no rolls) Sesame chicken was dry and they forgot the seeds. I ordered won ton soup and they did not ask size and just gave us large size at 16 dollars for soup. When I called to complain the man was arguing with me and telling me how great his customer service skills were. I won't go there again. I think my chicken was recycled!!! read more

I hate leaving 3 star reviews and only do so when we feel like we did not have a good experience. So this place used to be on Madison and Sunrise and like a lot of business had to move due to landlord or some type of issue. We were excited to visit them in their new location and I understand this is a very expensive thing to do. But here is the skinny. When someone like me orders take out, we are very clear of what we want. Usually tired and on the way home like so many people the ony thing we expect is to get what we pay for. You forgot the wonton/eggroll. May not sound like a big deal but for the person looking forward to this one particular thing, it's sort of a big deal because driving all the way back for such a small item is not worth the effort or the gas. Going back a month later trying to remember that I got short changed of an eggroll. Not gunna happen. Next.... why not just charge a little for the to-go container for soup instead of omitting it. Basically, you don't get soup to go unless you eat it their in the restaurant. Seriously. This is lame. Charge $.50 cents or whatever and give us the soup. Last, the food was bland. I "never" had to add salt to Chinese food. But this time out came the salt and a little pepper. I do see others have left great reviews, but just not for me right now. BUT there were no outstanding and individual flavors in any dish. Each dish was a little too bland.
