The hostess greeted us with a question. "You ladies came to drink or to eat?" She asked. We came for both! We sat outside near the entrance way. It was a nice shaded corner and it gave some privacy from the plants that were decorated along the entry way. The menu was small and interesting. First hour is happy hour $2 off drinks and $10 off food. I'd say this place is perfect for drinks and apps. There isn't a big variety for entree's. But those appetizers were the show! Our Order: grilled riblets, garnish shrimp pieces, watermelon tomato salad beef sliders French fries and the blackened salmon. The ribs-10/10 fall off the bone seasoned well with some kind of green sauce at the bottom. The garlic shrimp- 10/10 in chili garlic oil with focaccia bread. Watermelon tomato salad- 10/10 feta cheese always takes the show! Beef sliders- 10/10 us just being greedy but so good. French fries- 9/10 decent portion! Blackened salmon- 8/10 compared to how flavorful the appetizer's were it made the salmon lack in taste. Something was missing but it was still good loved the coconut milk flavor in the jasmine rice! We had such an uncomfortable experience here that we won't be returning or recommending it to others. Between the awkward service and 1.5+ hour wait for food, this celebration didn't go the way we'd hoped. We had a 6:30 reservation for a party of 7 to celebrate my engagement with family visiting from out of town. We placed our order right away but didn't receive our food until after 8pm. To make matters worse, one plate was missing entirely, and that guest had to wait an additional 20 minutes for it to arrive. The server was apologetic about the wait and offered to comp our desserts as a gesture of goodwill, which we appreciated. When the final plate arrived, we were quietly discussing the $3 avocado upcharge among ourselves, since the tacos came with barely a sliver of avocado. The server apparently overheard us, because she returned moments later, silently set down a small plate with extra avocado next to our food, and walked away without a word. The gesture felt pointed rather than helpful, and it left the table feeling uneasy. The food and drinks themselves were decent. But by 8:45, we didn't want to wait even longer for the comped desserts, so I asked if we could have our drinks comped instead, since a couple of the cocktails were priced similarly to the desserts (which ran up to $16). The server seemed uncomfortable and said she could only comp two desserts, offering 10% off the bill instead. This wasn't what had been discussed earlier, but at that point we just wanted to wrap up the night, especially since my parents had a long drive ahead. Given the service, we'd quietly decided as a table not to leave an additional tip, only to find a 20% automatic service charge already added for large parties. This came as a surprise since it wasn't disclosed anywhere on the menu. It's a shame, because it's genuinely a charming space. A Second Chance That Fell Short - we gave this restaurant a second chance tonight after an unfortunate experience here about a year ago that left me with food poisoning. I genuinely wanted to believe that was an isolated incident and was willing to give the restaurant another opportunity. Unfortunately, the food was again a major disappointment. We ordered a burger medium, but it arrived essentially raw. After the previous experience, that was particularly concerning, and I simply pushed the food aside. I also received fries that I never ordered and was charged for them. They appeared to be the remnants of the evening--mostly small, overcooked, and crusty--which only added to the frustration. The service compounded the experience. We sat at the bar, as we had previously, and it took roughly 5-7 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. When the food arrived, we had to ask for napkins and silverware. Then, when we were ready to leave, it took another 10 minutes or so to get anyone's attention. I ultimately had to holler to people standing about five feet away just to get someone to close us out. Everyone was pleasant enough on the surface, but hospitality is about more than being friendly. It's about awareness, attention to detail, and making guests feel genuinely looked after. Maybe the mistake is sitting at the bar. I'm willing to consider that. But after giving this place a second opportunity following a very bad first experience, I expected the details to matter a little more. A restaurant earns loyalty through consistency--not just when everything goes perfectly, but especially when it doesn't. We were surprised to find a very cozy outdoor space. Not that it was on, but they have outdoor fire pits. They also have an outdoor bar. The area makes you feel like you're on vacation! Went here for a first date and it was amazing. Parking lot is small, but no issues getting a spot. I made it a bit early on purpose and walked up and was greeted warmly by the host, Precious. She asked if I wanted to sit inside or outside and explained that outdoor seating had heaters, fire pits, and blankets ..or if I was worried about getting cold I could sit inside. I opted for inside just in case, but once walking in - they were projecting the Grammys and it was packed and noisy and I knew I wouldn't want to be yelling and distracted on my first date so I asked if I could change my mind and sit outside instead. She said - not a problem at all! She took me to a cute little table and put a heater near me and asked if I wanted a blanket and I said yes. She forgot them, but that's okay - the heater was great! I was then greeted by our server Logan, with an amazing mustache. He was super bubbly and welcoming as well. He asked if I wanted to get started with anything and I said I would wait and he said he would bring water in the mean time. I read a book as I was waiting for my date (which wasn't very long at all). I love love loved the patio space and how it was laid out. They had bocce ball areas too and I kind of wish I could have explored those parts a bit too...but next time for sure! My date showed up lookin like a tall drink of water ;) Logan then returned and we ordered 2 pineapple coolers to start (non-alcoholic). I thought they were a bit tart/sweet but not bad - can probably modify a bit to ask for less juice/grenadine and more soda water. I let mine sit and the ice melt a bit and then it was better. We also ordered falafel and hummus as a starter and then for our mains I went with the fish tacos (opted for grilled fish) and my date went with the fried chicken. Mine came with 2 tacos and a pile of chips and salsa on the plate...I enjoyed it, but maybe having some beans instead of chips or just a few chips on the side with a little dollop of beans would be nice! My date really enjoyed his meal and it came with cornbread too - which basically is like dessert :) It was a lovely evening and experience for both of us and really appreciated the wonderful service. My husband and I tried Shangri-la for the first time last Friday night. It was popular so parking was a little hard to find. We parked up the street since the lot was full. It was cold out so the beautiful outdoor area was empty. However, I can only imagine how packed the bocce ball courts and outdoor bar are when the weather is nice. Inside they were all decorated for the holidays - even the staff! We didn't have reservations, so we got some drinks at the bar while we waited. We tried some of their warm, festive cocktails to warm up. The vibes were good and the bar was quite busy. We were seated reasonably fast and got a nice corner booth. The food menu is eclectic and a bit more limited than I expected, however, still has some solid options. I ordered the salmon and my husband got the pork katsu sandwich. We also split the Brussels sprouts with Parmesan. The breaded pork cutlet was huge! It was plenty of food although it didn't really fit in the bun. The salmon was super flavorful and not overcooked. I really enjoyed the coconut rice and salsa that came with it as well. Very different than how I make salmon at home, and I liked the creativity of this dish! Overall, we had a great meal! Visited Shangri La today for the first time with two friends for a birthday celebration. I had an 11:45 reservation for brunch. I arrived around 11:30 and the hostess seated me immediately. Our server, Jaden, came over to the table right away to introduce himself, provide water, and ask if I wanted to get started with any drinks. I decided to wait for my friends to arrive, and while waiting, I took a look at the food and drink menu. Upon arrival of the two friends, we ordered cocktails first and then decided on food. I ordered the Pink Pony and later the cosmopolitan, and eggs benedict for breakfast. My meal was quite delicious and I finished every morsel on my plate. The poached eggs were done perfectly and I really enjoyed the potatos. We were seated in the interior dining room to the left of the entry and I did not check out the other interior areas of the restaurant, but I loved the Mid Century Modern / Palm Springs vibe. I especially loved the "fly fan" on each table to use because the bar behind where we were sitting was open to the outside. We did not have an issue with flies but the fans are a nice and considerate touch. Jaden provided excellent customer service, checking back as our drinks got low, and checking back on the food, which we all very much enjoyed. When we left there was some live music outside, but we did not stay as it was a pretty warm Sunday on 6/14/26, but I will most definitely return. I'm especially looking forward to returning in the evening when the weather gets a little cooler toward the end of summer. This is a really fun place, with great food and great service! read more

The beer cheese was good but for $3 I figured they would give us more. 3.5/5 - Quesadilla: mix cheese, pico, and crema with added chicken. Tasty! 4.5/5 - Pretzel Donut: coated in sugar and cinnamon with side of custard sauce. The pretzel donut is a nice combo of both pretzel and donut. You can't go wrong with sugar and cinnamon. The sauce tastes like condensed milk. 4.5/5. - Brownie Sundae: brownie topped with vanilla ice cream with candied nuts, caramel sauce, and peanut butter powder. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My family and I came in on a Saturday around 6:00 PM, and we didn't receive our entrees until approximately 8:05 PM. That is over two hours of waiting for our food. Unfortunately, our experience was not an isolated incident. We noticed several tables around us receiving incorrect orders and experiencing extremely long wait times as well. I understand that restaurants can get busy and that things sometimes go wrong. However, what made this experience even worse was the lack of communication and poor customer service from our waitress. She rarely checked on our table, and it took an unreasonable amount of time just to get a refill or have her come by. When she did come over, her attitude came across as very passive-aggressive and unwelcoming. There was little to no communication about the delays or what was happening with our order. On top of that, we paid an additional $3.50 for avocado and received what was essentially one small, disappointing slice. Mistakes and delays can happen, but there are much better ways to handle them. A simple explanation, regular communication, and a positive attitude would have gone a long way toward improving the experience. Unfortunately, based on what we experienced--and the many similar reviews from other customers--it seems like this may be an ongoing issue rather than a one-time occurrence. Very disappointing experience. We left feeling frustrated and feel that the customer service was nowhere near what it should have been. This place is so fun. They have drinks, bochi ball and good food. I had a hamburger and fries and the fries were sooooooo good. I think this is the first time in a while I finished all my fries, they were perfect. My friends got fish tacos and loved them and a grilled cheese which I was told was also very tasty. After we finished eating we went to play bochi ball, you just give a card to someone working at the front counter inside and they will give you everything to play. They don't charge they just keep card so you don't run off with the balls or incase you break something. We had a great time visiting this past Saturday evening. We just stoped in for a drink on a whim after eating. It's such a cute atmosphere! The bar is indoor and outdoor. There a beautiful patio area that is huge with lots of seating and nice lights everywhere. There are also a few fire pits you can sit around. When we stopped in a proposal had just happened so they happened to have crystal glasses out. I ordered a "do epic sh*t" champs and it came in that crystal glass. Beautiful! And it tasted delicious! Hubs had a beer. I went to order an espresso martini but it wasn't my favorite. The owner had just walked up to us and started chatting - she was so sweet! She took my drink and brought me a new crystal glass of champs and popped the bottle for me to record. She really went above and beyond to make us feel so welcomed. We watched her shortly after put blankets on people as they sat down outside. So nice! We will be back to try food and other drinks. read more

Hurrah! Multiple vegan options and good! They just introduced a vegan banh mi and it's delicious. The menu is makes it easy to see what's veggie/vegan which I'm so thankful for. Same great service and drinks and they're now doing live music on Sundays. Incredibly disappointing. We ordered fish tacos & fried chicken. The tacos were flavorless other than being drowned in sour cream. The chicken and cornbread were incredibly overdone. We almost finished our meal by the time our drinks came out. We were watching the bartenders take new orders of people just coming up to the bar before making ours. Our food came out about 5 minutes after ordering which made it seem like they just heated it up, but took about 25 minutes to get our drinks. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. It's a short drive from where I live and looked decent from Yelp. Unfortunately, it was a letdown. Even with low expectations, I left disappointed. To start with the good, the staff was solid. The host, server, and food runners were friendly, approachable, and attentive. No complaints there. The space itself is well done. Lights and water misters. I came in around 4:30pm, and you could tell the setup would be nice at night. Outdoor seating has a good summer atmosphere. Now to the food, which is where things went downhill. We ordered four starters and three entrees. A couple of dishes were good, but most missed the mark. $21 - Burrata Panzanella Salad Small portion, but the flavors were fresh. The dressing was balanced and not overpowering. It was my first time trying this type of salad, and I actually liked it. Only issue was the soggy grilled sourdough croutons. It felt like the salad had been sitting pre-made for a while. $52 - Steak with frites Pricey, but the steak was cooked perfectly and had good flavor. The sauce worked well, and the fries were fine. What killed it was the extra charge for Tabasco and A1. The server never mentioned that, so it felt like a cheap move when the bill came. $13 - Truffle Fries Good portion. Fresh, hot, just what you expect for fries. No complaints here. Now for the disappointing ones: $18 - Grilled Riblets Five small pieces that were way too salty. Tough to get through. The green mojo-scallion jus helped kill the saltiness a bit, but sadly the seasoning was too much. Not enjoyable. $19 - Grilled Summer Shrimp Five shrimp, that didn't seem grilled, in a pool with too much sauce. The description sounded like it would be light and flavorful, but the execution was messy. We were forcing each other to finish it haha $24 - Baja Fish Tacos Two in our party ordered this. Only two tacos, and they were completely bland. No flavor in the fish. The chips on the side tasted over-fried and had a burnt crunch. The $5 avocado add-on wasn't worth it and didn't help the dish. Not really a big deal, but one order was missing the side of limes... were the limes part of the $5 avocado up charge? haha $21 - Shang Burger This one was the biggest disappointment. The server hyped it up as the juiciest burger and even said it was better than the fried chicken sandwich. Not true at all. It lacked any elevated flavor and presentation. It looked home made, and for the price I was expecting something that matched. Honestly, Chili's makes a better burger for half the price and their deal comes with a drink, fries and an appetizer. This might be a spot to stop by for drinks and maybe one or two appetizers, but that's about it. The menu is limited and most of the food didn't hit. Would I come back? Doubt it. The decors are fresh, tropical, you are transformed. We sat inside but will probably sit outside next time. For drinks, I ordered the mai tai 3.0, it was super strong and delicious, and my friend got the Miss Mango. For food, we got truffle fries to share, a little salty, it came after our entries but supposed to be starter. I got the summer shrimp, it was too salty for my taste. My friends got the Baja fish tacos and crudo. We ordered the strawberry panna cotta for the birthday dessert which was light and refreshing. Overall, would come back for the vibes and drinks but not necessarily for the food. Prices were rather high for the amount and quality that we got. There were definitely plusses and minuses to our experience at Shangri-La. The ambience and atmosphere was a 10 and some of their dishes were out of this world, and there was one that I would not recommend to anyone. I would even argue it shouldn't be on the menu. I'll just start by saying they're deviled eggs were delicious but they should be in pairs of four not three...or even just 2 halves. Most people who go out to dinner go in pairs of two or four. Or more. But the extra half of the deviled egg was an extra three dollars. The deviled eggs also had an A/Q for their price....so they ended up being $17 for 2 eggs. Kind of a little bit much. In the end still delicious. We could've done without the extra half. We asked about their specials and he explained his recommendations and what he thought would be a good experience. Unfortunately their gnocchi was not worth it. On the menu it had a/q as the menu price and we thought the waiter said that it was seven dollars. The a/q price stands for ask questions. So we did. It was on the appetizer side of things. But it ended up being $27 when we got the bill. Which we would have happily paid for if it was scrumdiddlyumptious like he had recommended. He said it was Mediterranean style but it was, for lack of a better description.....bland as can be. We would've gone for the salmon or the burger instead. Maybe a little salt or pepper might have helped but I don't know. He said that it was Mediterranean style, which just kind of tasted like ... not much. The calories were not worth the bites. The shrimp was to die for... it was absolutely delicious (recommend if you love shrimp and a little spice) and the deviled eggs despite missing a half were absolutely out of this world. They were delicious...Asian style with chicken on top....yummm. I would say their service as a 10. And despite the misunderstanding about items and pricing, we would still rate our waiter a 10 out of 10. Maybe a 9. We tipped beyond because of it. And the staff who brought out our food were absolutely marvelous. The atmosphere and the whole vibe is a must experience. We would just maybe recommend a couple little tweaks to make the experience a little better for customers in the end, a great time but a few things that could make it a little bit better. Get the deviled eggs and shrimp.....avoid the gnocchi. Also their Clothes Line drinkadoodledoo was scrumptious. If you want a brain freeze. We will probably be back but never for the gnocchi. We came to Shangri La for a small birthday celebration and were completely blown away by how delicious everything was. From the first bite to the last sip, the whole experience was thoughtful, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Also, our server Gabby was so sweet and attentive. We started with the grilled riblets--which unfortunately didn't make it into a photo because they were devoured instantly. Perfectly charred and tender, falling off the bone as they were picked up and dipped into a yummy green sauce The Skuna Bay salmon was a standout: cooked to perfection, moist on the inside, and balanced with farro, greens, and a chimichurri that added depth without overpowering the fish. The fish tacos were another hit--crispy, light, and topped generously with fresh pico, crema, and a side of house-made chips and salsa. For dessert, we shared the chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, crunchy peanuts, and sprinkles. It was just the right amount of sweet and rich. And the drinks? Absolutely on point. We ordered a sidecar, a martini, an old fashion, and the Queen Bee--which was a total showstopper with its mix of gins, sumo orange, toasted cardamom, and Fresno & Thai chili honey. I saw this place a while back and then saw them on good day over the weekend so I made reservations with some friends and we had dinner here this evening ... first off parking was limited so we parked up the street no big deal getting our steps in was good but just note. This restaurant has the best outdoor area with multiple fire pits, and a large area with outside seating and an area for games - so fun but in the summer!! We went in and met our friends at the bar - our table was ready so we were sat promptly. The waiter stopped by took our drink order and our appetizer order - we got gin & tonic, & I got a mocktail plus for appetizers we got two cornbreads and deviled eggs - all were delicious but the winner for me were my riblets - so so good - smaller portion but it was perfect!!! This place has been on my list for some time and I finally made it. Made dinner reservations for a group of 4. We got there early and grabbed a high table and enjoyed a few cocktails before dinner. Old fashion and the Shangri La slushee, so refreshing! You just order at the bar and find an open seating. The outside patio is huge with plenty of high top tables, fire fit seating and makes you feel like you're on vacation somewhere else, such a vibe! You can dine inside but during summer nights who doesn't want to be outside? For a group of four we ordered a variety of things, steak, fish tacos, fried chicken, pork belly, and deviled eggs. Wow right! I only have a few photos to share since we all got caught up in the moment with our cocktails and laughs that food photos were last on our list. Great conversation, delicious food, and amazing cocktails. The service was a tad slow that night although it didn't appear to be busy but completely understandable. Shangri-La exceeded every expectation. We showed up with what could easily be described as a "tough table"--a vegetarian with a shellfish allergy, a pup in tow, and I'm gluten- and dairy-free. To say the staff handled it gracefully is an understatement. They were patient, accommodating, and brought a thoughtful touch to every order. The cocktails were impeccable--balanced, creative, and worth savoring. I had the salmon, which was tender and perfectly cooked. Our vegetarian guest enjoyed an elevated quesadilla that felt both upscale and satisfying (and importantly, completely shellfish-free). Even our dog was treated like a proper guest, with grilled chicken and a water bowl brought right to the table. The outdoor area was stunning, and we lingered until closing, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. My only small gripe is that the town itself seems to wind down early--but the upside is there are a few bars down the street where the night owls can continue the evening with more drinks and good conversation. read more

I haven't left a review on Yelp in over a decade, so this is either going to be really good or really bad. I made reservations here for Father's Day. When we arrived, we checked in with the host. She insisted on sitting us outside even though on the reservation I selected for indoor seating. It's close to 100 degrees outside, I'm not sitting my two young children in the heat. After a bit of back and forth, an indoor table became "available". Decor is nice. Lots of greenery, very on trend. We sat down and were given menus. I looked up the menu prior to arriving and pretty much knew what I was going to order. Except it wasn't the same menu. They decided to start a new brunch menu that day, a busy holiday. Why? The server then proceed to tell us they were "short handed", so there is a 20-30 minute delay before our food will be out. It was Father's Day, we anticipated all restaurants will be busy. We understand. We decided to wait. My husband and I both ordered a cocktail. Those came out in a reasonable time frame. 30 minutes went by. We asked about our food and were told they're still working on it. I look around the restaurant and of the 10-12 tables, only 2 groups have food. Next thing you know, I see this mom storm out with her kids because she said she was done waiting. She waited almost 2 hours with no food! I asked the tables around us. Everyone has waited at least an hour with no food in sight. This is insane! At this point, I told my husband we need to leave and he agreed. We asked for our bill and to cancel the food. A lady who I presume is either the manager or the owner of the restaurant appears and was very dismissive on why we were leaving. She wasn't apologetic. She reiterated they were short handed and they're still working out kinks for the new menu. Like I'm supposed to accept that answer and just wait. I told her it is Father's Day. I came here to celebrate my husband. Waiting 2 hours at a restaurant to be served with hangry screaming kids doesn't sound like celebration to me no matter how good the food is. We left. I dont see this restaurant surviving based on their service levels. Poor management and poor planning overall. read more

I've loved Shangri-La since it first opened. The food is always amazing and the bartenders are fantastic. I live in Fair Oaks and this has become one of our go-to spots. I do have one suggestion. I completely understand and appreciate the elevated vibe they're going for--it's part of what makes the place special. That said, I think there may be a bit of a missed opportunity with the bocce ball courts. There are large signs saying kids can't play on them and must stay with adults, but honestly, I come here at least once a quarter and they're often not being used. Given the location and the number of families in the area, it could be interesting to consider adding a small playground in the back. I know that might sound unconventional for a place like this, but I've seen restaurants do this successfully in Europe. What's really missing around here is a place where parents can enjoy an incredible meal and drinks while their kids have a safe place to play nearby. Right now, the only places that come close are breweries. There are almost always families here when I visit, so just a thought! Either way, Shangri-La remains one of my favorite spots. read more

Writing this review publicly after being ignored by the business on different occasions, trying to discuss the lack of service I experienced on the evening Wednesday May 20th 2026. I had made a reservation for 2 people probably a little over a week prior to the date, for my birthday which was that evening-- upon arriving on time, & waiting a few minutes for the hostess (perfectly fine, I noticed there was an entire event taking place), myself and my guest were asked to take a seat at the picnic tables to wait to be seated, again, perfectly fine. That is until I watched the people behind us, and at least three other parties walk up and be seated immediately. I was very shocked to say the least, especially since nobody was checking in, asking us if we wanted drinks, letting us know updates. This was a reservation for a special event which I specified when making the reservation. We obviously left after waiting 20 minutes into my 7pm reservation, with no questions asked as we were :/ even with the event going on, the fact that I had made a reservation weeks prior & was never spoken to besides being told to "sit and wait", it wasn't busy enough to get that bad of service. I shouldn't be anymore, but I'm actually shocked by how unprofessional this entire experience has been handled. This town is entirely TOO tiny to be acting like an LA restaurant. I have been here many times, but this visit was very disappointing. We made a reservation and arrived on time, yet still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. During that time, we asked twice about our reservation while multiple tables appeared to be open and available. When we asked a second time, we were told that our table was ready but needed to be cleaned. However, the table they seated us at had been sitting vacant for over 20 minutes, which made the delay even more frustrating. Once our food arrived, we were not given napkins or silverware and had to ask for them separately. To make matters worse, it was obvious that one member of our party's order had been completely forgotten. While the rest of us received our meals, they were left waiting while the issue was sorted out. Overall, the service felt disorganized and fell well below the standard we have experienced during previous visits.
