Came in today to celebrate my husband and I 16th anniversary together. We choose to seat up at the bar area. The service we had was great and the staff were so nice and made sure we were well taken care of. And the food was so good what we got, we both got the TNT Rolls and also the aloha rolls deep fried. And we got some hot sake and my husband also got a beer. The restaurant was very clean as well. We have been coming here for years and will continue to do so. If you haven't been here yet i highly recommend you checking this place out.

Not good. Tasted like bad buffet sushi and meat. Didn't give me wasabi. Put onions in food although I said not to. Was just...really bad, yuck.

I went here on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch since I was in the area for work. There were no customers in the restraunt. Which surprised me. The place is nicely decorated and looked clean to what I can tell. I called in for my order and the person who picked up was very kind. The 2 rolls itself were okay. Nothing to rave about. I was very filled by the end.

5 pc nigiri with 8 pc CA roll, $20. Request of no salmon was granted. Farmed = unsustainable. Food not great. Not trying again. 7-18-24

Food wasn't very good. Had to spit out one nigiri as it didn't taste fresh. California roll had an unusual flavor I didn't like. Other customer had patronized many times and loves it. Everyone has different taste buds and my palate is keen. Restroom was ok. Dining area had gimmick music, gimmick colored lights, but nice other decor without being bright. Did take out by placing order in person. Food order was correct and they accommodated my request for 0 salmon (farm raised is not sustainable and is harmful to the ocean ecosystem - fish crap and tons of fish are in these pens and it saturates the local space and beyond). Took nearly 30 minutes for food. Wasn't warned. Sick of restaurants that fulfill delivery orders first. Not returning.

This is an awesome place! Our first time here and we had a great experience with the food and the server. The place have your typical local sushi restaurant design, dark ambiance with mainly red as their color. Their nigiri portion are HUGE, definitely generous with the fish. The Hanabi Roll was really great also, beautiful presentation, though the spice did kick really hard. We would for sure give this a 5 stars if the rolls have some kind of design on it, instead of just plain. Though, without the design, it does show how big the portion for the rolls are so that's also another great thing. Highly recommend and will definitely come back!

Gyoza

This used to be our go to sushi place; it is close, good, and reasonably priced but the food has been really hit or miss. I recently order a roll and gyoza; most of the gyoza were so over cooked they were inedible and the others were very under cooked. I couldn't finish the roll, it tasted so old; like not fresh seafood. The avocado on it tasted old as well and was brown .

One of my favorite sushi places of all time. It's lasted as long as it has in Citrus Heights for a reason. Great prices, friendly staff, and a fun vibe inside. Plus the food is always amazing.

Today my food came out a little bit, disappointed. The flavors were all great, but lacked the toppings that normally has or the quality of the role. I had four different roles. The Citrus Heights, the Hanako, the Mazinger, Z, and the T the TNT fell apart, just by grabbing it with my Chopsticks. When I told the waiter, he didn't seem to care that my role was falling apart, or didn't stay together, and I might need a fork to eat it or a spoon? Not great customer service also, one of my rose rolls tasted like it had smoke on it. I hate smoked anything, and I've had this role before, and it did not taste the same. Every single, one of them fell apart? New employee maybe? Well the presentation was nice, my server did not seem to care about my request. Restaurant is clean as usual, but something was missing this visit and I was so looking forward to coming here. It's one of my favorite places usually.

I love this place. Me and my friend used to go here years ago, I kinda forgot about it since moving cities- but I recently started going here again and it's just as delicious as I remember!! I make the 25 min drive just to come here. Great tasting sushi for the price. You must try the BBQ Albacore!! It's delicious and comparable to Mikuni which is one of my favorite places but far more pricey. Friendly service and lowkey vibes. Will be returning!

It was our…read morefirst visit, and since it was on the way, we figured we'd give it a try -- and we're so glad we did! Everything was a 10/10 experience from start to finish. We arrived around 5 p.m. and were one of just a few parties seated, so it was quiet and relaxed. The first thing we noticed was how beautifully decorated it was inside. Like others have mentioned, the exterior might not catch your eye right away, but once you step in, it's vibrant and welcoming. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. We ordered the sashimi nigiri plate, agedashi tofu, and an eel roll (I can't remember the exact name). Every dish was excellent -- the fish was incredibly fresh, and the agedashi sauce was bursting with flavor. Honestly, it's the best agedashi tofu we've had so far! We were too hungry to snap photos this time, but I'll definitely add some on our next visit. Highly recommend checking out Akira Sushi if you're in the area -- great food, warm service, and such a pleasant surprise overall.

I would have never thought a Japanese restaurant was here. The inside was another story! The inside is decorated with all kinds of Japanese pictures and decor. You definitely felt like you were in a Japanese restaurant. The menu was impressive! Everything had pictures which is so amazing! It was just easier having an idea of what to pick based on looking at the pictures. There were all kinds of sushi rolls, bento boxes, noodles, appetizers and plates. We decided to get the ramen, salmon katsu, and tempura bowl. Food came our really quick. Portions were good and everything we tasted wonderful. It definitely satisfied our craving. The tempura was crispy. The ramen broth was rich and noodles nice and chewy. The bento box came with gyoza, salad, tempura, oranges, miso soup and rice. Service was great. They were attentive, and friendly. Eating with our littles ones is never easy and we appreciated how patient they were with us. We loved the food and hope to come back and try their sushi next!

Check out the menu pricing. $48.99+ tax for 8 pc sashimi, 4 pieces nigiri and a "special" roll. Exorbitant. And they claim under new management but the same man is behind the fish counter. And I understood he had bought it around a year ago. Unbelievable.

Sushi Star is in a little strip mall behind a Walgreens and located a few doors down from Corner Pocket, which is likely why they stay open to 10pm on weekends. A section of the menu is labeled "Vegetarian Rolls" but most of them are actually vegan. There's also a few veggie appetizer standards: edamame, seaweed salad, sunomono. They also have inari. The seaweed salad was an actual salad... it came served on a bed of spring greens. I liked it. We also tried the AAC (avocado, asparagus, cucumber) and Veggie Rolls. Both were good, but the Veggie Roll was modified to what was actually listed on the menu. It was still tasty though. I liked how the veggie rolls come sauceless by default so I don't have to ask for them to be removed to keep it vegan. Basic = easy. Service was average here, so all in all I would come back when I'm looking for another quick bite of vegan sushi and don't feel like making it myself.

The fish to rice ratio is glorious; they do not skimp out on the cuts of fish at all. My favorites of the nigiri are the yuzu yellowtail and the salmon. These two are easily the best out of them all (and the seared salmon belly, but this is only one order per person). In my opinion, the rolls themselves aren't too noteworthy. But I do check out any specials they have written on the board. We sprinkle in a few of the hot kitchen/appetizer items just to break through the routine of all the raw fish. Some notable items are the takoyaki and baked mussels - also the lychee sorbet for dessert. The staff have been great every time I've visited, too. Once, during a really busy rush, a waitress noticed that we've been waiting for our order for a long time and checked on our items for us. Another time, a waiter gave us a giant bowl of ginger after we requested refills. The latest time, our waitress advised us that the item we ordered wasn't very popular and suggested that we only get one just to try it out first -- and she was a saint for that! That truffle salmon dish wasn't great, but she was wonderful for warning us. We really appreciated the transparency.
