Celebrated a birthday at this sushi spot and it was pretty good. Parking wasn't an issue, and the place was good for a party of 7. Service was good and we were checked on frequently. The food- we ordered several sushi rolls and appetizers. You know how sometimes, after awhile each roll starts to taste the same? Well I can say that almost each roll has its own taste. The only downside was they were out of some items that night, but overall I would return for sushi.

I was really disappointed with my stop at this sushi restaurant. We were sat promptly and our order was taken. Our edamame came out quickly and so did the sushi. The sushi was delicious, however, it took our server 30 minutes to come to our table after dropping off our food. We had to get up and find a server to get our check. Then our server was no where to be found to pay for our food and again we had to find a server to help us. The place was busy, but other tables were being helped while we sat there forgotten. I'm really disappointed in the service BUT the food was good.

Always looking forward to coming here! We moved to this area recently and always have to check out the local sushi spots and so far we have been stuck on this place. The vibe is always chill, service is friendly and quick. Slowing working our way through the whole menu!

Top to bottom: Orange Blossom, Kamikaze, Nemo Roll

Great spot for late night sushi at very affordable price! we stopped in around 9:30pm (they close at 10pm on Sundays), and we were seated right away. We were informed that they were taking "last call" for food orders, so we ordered the orange blossom roll, kamikaze roll, and the nemo roll. My favorite was the kamikaze roll, and his was the nemo roll. The fish tasted fresh and the rice was prepared well for all three rolls. 3 rolls and 1 hot tea for just under $50, including the tip! We will definitely be back when we have a late night sushi craving.

The best sushi I've had. Everytime we order it never disappoints! The spicy garlic edamame is our favorite side dish to get.

I would have never thought a Japanese restaurant was here. The inside was another story! The inside is decorated with all kinds of Japanese pictures and decor. You definitely felt like you were in a Japanese restaurant. The menu was impressive! Everything had pictures which is so amazing! It was just easier having an idea of what to pick based on looking at the pictures. There were all kinds of sushi rolls, bento boxes, noodles, appetizers and plates. We decided to get the ramen, salmon katsu, and tempura bowl. Food came our really quick. Portions were good and everything we tasted wonderful. It definitely satisfied our craving. The tempura was crispy. The ramen broth was rich and noodles nice and chewy. The bento box came with gyoza, salad, tempura, oranges, miso soup and rice. Service was great. They were attentive, and friendly. Eating with our littles ones is never easy and we appreciated how patient they were with us. We loved the food and hope to come back and try their sushi next!

This is exactly what I had experienced when I paid a visit to "Akira Sushi" Located directly on Greenback Lane and adjacent to Auburn Blvd in Citrus Heights, this place opened its doors for business back in mid-2024. Since then, they have seen a very respectable amount of positive reviews. As I had previously mentioned, the exterior isn't much to look at as this is a fairly dated strip mall that hasn't received any updates in decades. And to those that remember, this is the same building that "Pho 54" occupied from 2013-2023. During my visit which was the afternoon of Sunday 8/3/2025 at around 5:15pm, I parked directly outside as there were no other cars here. Upon entry, there was one other customer finishing dinner. After being greeted and seated, I was given a menu complete with a cold glass of iced water. I will say that the interior of this place is quite impressive, cozy, and inviting. The distressed wooden tables paired up with the tan-colored walls and unique murals add an upscale look to the overall interior. On a packed evening, this place can comfortably seat around 50 guests. I will say that their menu is fully loaded with pure deliciousness. They offer a huge variety of traditional sushi rolls, custom rolls, Bento boxes, seafood tacos (available in tuna or salmon), Poke bowls, and even ramen for the colder days/evenings. And even a nice variety of beverages including soda, beer, wine, and sake. Since I was dining solo, I decided on the "Sunomomo Salad" which was a cucumber salad w/Ponzu sauce and Bonito flakes. My main dish was their "Napa Valley" roll which uses shrimp tempura, cucumbers, avocado, spicy aioli, unagi sauce, and topped with sesame seeds. My salad was brought out in less than 3 minutes while my sushi arrived just a few minutes later. I will say that everything was very fresh and delicious. The avocado had perfect consistency while the shrimp was made to perfection. In my humble opinion, this was an absolute gem of a roll. All in all, "Akira Sushi" is about as good as it gets for quality sushi in Citrus Heights. They have very respectable hours of operation being open 6 days a week; Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30am-2:30pm / 4:00-8:30pm with extended hours on Fri/Sat while being closed for business on Monday. Service was great as the young lady that waited on me was polite, courteous, and respectful. With a great atmosphere, delicious food, and reasonable prices, I am giving Akira Sushi a unanimous five-star rating.

They made some rather last minute accommodations for a party of 12, for a birthday get together. The space itself is modern, clean, and more spacious than it appears from the outside. The service staff was very friendly, and made some awesome recommendations for rolls. They even went out of their way to ask the entire table how everybody enjoyed their food. Our entire party had nothing but good things to say about their meals, which is an accomplishment in itself. Even the bento boxes were amazing, which in my experience is typically just an afterthought at a restaurant specializing in sushi. I think we found our new sushi spot in town.

I was afraid to try it and I know why now. Besides great service from a waitress who was not assigned to us but helped out nothing else shined. Thank you to the girl who brought us sauces and the spice. Edamame- so sweet it tastes like bbq sauce and teriyaki. None of us liked it. Used to have yeah chopped garlic and seasoning. Pepperfin- cute presentation but what in the hell in the over daikon! It took over half the place and fish was dry. I asked waiter can we have a bit more sauce for the pepperin? He said oh you mean ponzu? Sure whatever it's served with bro. Shogun roll- hella rice and skimpy on tuna on top. Only roll edible Fair Oaks- mushyyyyyyyyyyy just no Miso- tofu water Beer- we have at every restaurant been able to order a tall beer with extra glass our waiter said no that's two beers. Sad to see this place forget about the food. Jimmy worked so hard.

I'm not a crawfish fan so I don't know why mom loves it so much but she swears it's the "best seasoning ever". Came here on a Sunday lunch with my mom. No wait at all compared to how busy they are at dinner time. They gave my mother a 10% senior discount. Lunch time on the weekend might be the time to go because it is not too busy and you don't have to "fight" for the good stuff but still busy enough that fresh food is refilled often. I come here for one reason only, CRAB! They had two types of blue crabs, one with ginger and green onions and a salty fried version. The fried version is my favorite because it is less mess. Also tried their mushroom bomb (it was more crab meat than mushroom), shrimp lollipops (worth it), & yellowtail hand roll. 4.5 STARS its sushi…read moreis very popular, so the wait can be long during peak times - around 90 minutes to 2 hours. there are three options for ayce, with different dishes included in each option. my boyfriend and i like course B because we think it's the best value, and it includes all of the nigiri, which is mostly what we like to order. we don't think course C includes enough additional items to be worth the increase in price. service is friendly, and we're always checked on often! they offered a wide selection of appetizers and hot dishes. the seafood dynamite included baby scallops and mushrooms in a mayo and sweet eel sauce mixture. i thought it was a little too heavy and wish it included other seafood besides scallops. the tako wasabi was one of the best versions of this dish i've tried, and i'm usually not a huge fan of this dish! the wasabi wasn't too strong, and the sesame seeds added such a nice flavor and texture. the sesame flavor complemented the wasabi and made it easier to eat. the monkey brain was a fried crab mix and mushrooms with spicy mayo and eel sauce. the portion was pretty big, so it was filling and heavy. the baked green mussels were very yummy! the white sauce gave it a creaminess and sweetness, and it came out super hot. the yellowtail collar was very juicy! it came with a slightly sweet soy-based sauce, and it was overall a light app. the spicy garlic edamame had a great garlicky flavor with a small kick. i liked that it came out hot, and it was a good portion! the sauce pooled at the bottom, and it was very oily, although the edamame at the bottom also had more flavor. i enjoyed the coconut flakes in the batter for the coconut shrimp tempura, which provided most of the flavor. the sauce was the same as the one served with the soft shell crab. the corn cheese was slightly sweet and cheesy, which i liked. the cheese was a little too liquidy but otherwise solid. the quality of the soft shell crab varied between different visits. i wasn't a fan of the chewy shell when it came out lukewarm, but when it came out fresh and hot, the texture was much better - crunchy and easy to eat. overall, it was seasoned well, and the lemon added freshness. the sauce was very light and thin, so i couldn't place the exact flavor. there were lots of options for sushi rolls, and they allowed half-size rolls, except for baked or 6-pc rolls. the lemon x salmon roll was one of my favorites! the lemon was thinly sliced, and the salmon was soft. it was very fresh and light. the washington roll was similar to the lemon x salmon roll in terms of brightness from the ponzu. the salmon was so soft, and there was salmon on top and inside of the roll, which i loved. it was also one of my favorite rolls, maybe more so than the lemon x salmon. the sauce on the henry roll was a little too much for me, but the lemon helped cut through it a bit. it had the typical combo of spicy mayo and eel sauce. the shrimp tempura was so crunchy! the sexy bomb roll was a regular shrimp tempura roll topped with salmon, spicy mayo, and eel sauce, but with the addition of cream cheese. again, the shrimp was crunchy, but the cream cheese was too overwhelming for me. the flavor was otherwise standard. the something wrong roll included shrimp tempura and spicy seafood mixes, including spicy soft shell crab, spicy tuna, and spicy crab mix, topped with more seafood. i liked the idea of the roll, but together, the spicy and tangy flavors were overwhelming. since it had so many components, it was also very filling! the nigiri was as good as ayce nigiri gets! we tried the tuna, garlic tuna, cajun tuna, super white tuna, salmon, xxx salmon, cajun salmon, smoked salmon, garlic salmon, salmon belly, paprika seared salmon, yuzu yellowtail, squid, spicy octopus, freshwater eel, and mayo scallop. the fish was soft and didn't taste too fishy. the fish to rice ratio was great! there was a tiny amount of rice for each nigiri, so we didn't get full on just rice. i wasn't a fan of the xxx nigiri, which came with a dollop of spicy sauce and thickly sliced jalapeno on top. i liked the seared flavor of the cajun tuna and cajun salmon, and all of the regular fish were good too. for ~$40 per person, the menu is very extensive, and we feel like it's really worth it! they offer a wide variety of appetizers and lots of great options for nigiri and rolls. we also appreciate the portion size of the dishes, which allows us to try more menu items. although a lot of the menu is tasty, the nigiri makes the price worth it alone, and we will definitely come back to its sushi whenever we're in the area!
