I stopped by after seeing a happy hour sign on the curb while I was driving by! The restaurant has dimmer lighting with great decor. I love the plant features on the walls. They also had ocean creature videos playing which was nice since I was dining solo so I had something to keep my eyes busy. My waitress was very kind, I believe her name was Tayla(Taylor?) and she truly amplified the dining experience. When I placed my order she asked if I wanted any additional dipping sauces and even made suggestions when I asked her for her opinion. The chili crunch was an awesome topping and I will be sure to ask about it next time. The food was great and super filling. Everything came out quickly. Tucked in a little corner is this restaurant that our friend recommended to have a girls meet up. The decor was modern and very spacious inside. The servers were welcoming and attentive. We were adventurous and did a full sushi boat like a big bamboo boat and everything was fresh and so delicious we did not take any to-go. Busy, small, but ample parking. Good music and vibes, clean tables, the waitress was extremely accommodating, and sweet. The sushi and tempura were good as we ate, they don't have many vegan options, which is why I gave 3 stars, plus they don't pass out individual dipping sauce dishes, so people don't have to double dip. So we had to pour onto our tempura so the rest of the group could do the same. And when we arrived home, my husband and brother felt so full, but started having acid reflux, and I woke up later that night with stomach cramps, so not too sure what it could have been. I had the vegan options, but maybe something wasn't as fresh as we thought?? read more

We absolutely love shogun! We love seafood and recently moved to the neighborhood. These sushi rolls are EXCEPTIONAL and fairly priced. Shoutout to Andrew, the best sushi chef for his inventive and exceptional flavors. The owner, Alex, is personable and inviting. Such a great ambiance for family and friends. Had a friend recommend this local sushi location and for starters, it was definitely a packed house which took us a minute to be greeted. Besides the little delay upon entry, the host was very kind and got us seated quickly. Having been the first time, I asked the server for a recommendation on a roll that had salmon & lemon slices on top, he suggested the Lindsey roll. Quite honestly, it was terrible. The crab filling was overbearing, I could hardly taste the salmon & lemon, the texture was mushy as if I was having oatmeal. I ended up returning the roll and not reordering a replacement because I was genuinely grossed out. What stole the show was my Sapporo beer, that was fairly priced for draft and their spicy garlic edamame. The edamame was very hot/fresh and offered a fair quantity but was missing that spicy kick. Given this location is not in my area, I do not plan on coming back. read more

I came in for late lunch in the afternoon. I go to school in the area and was craving sushi and this place looked pretty good. Service was quick and employees were very nice and welcoming. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately and they let me choose a booth to sit in. I ordered the 15 piece sashimi mix which was $19.99 and the bruschetta appetizer. The sashimi cuts were really thick pieces. The bruschetta has a lot of tomato flavor and I wasn't a big fan so I ate a couple bites, but I couldn't finish the rest. The inside has a lot of seating and they also have a bar area near the chefs. I think it was a convenient spot, but I probably wouldn't try since I wasn't a big fan of the food. read more

I'm a regular customer at Shogun Sushi and time to leave a detailed review. They're located in Carmichael at the corner of Sutter & Fair Oaks Boulevard. My past experience has been really good but on my last visit hasn't been so good. It took much much longer than expected to get our food. To be exactly it was around 45-55 min. This might be my new favorite sushi spot! The rolls are more affordable than other places & their food is sooo good! Driving up, it's a smaller parking lot, but I haven't had a problem finding parking yet. They just expanded their restaurant so there's a lot more seating! The staff is super friendly and will check in on you every so often. On to the important part. The food. My favorites: Linet roll Mikey roll Housewife special Other rolls I tried that are good but not crazy to my taste buds. Decided to try sushi in this neighborhood and it was a solid decision. Everything that we ate was mouth watering. We got 2 miso soups/ 2 appetizers: calamari and potstickers/ 4 rolls: shotgun is now called alex special because new management took over. We also got the flaming dragon, Mikey's special and deep fried roll alex two separate Alex's. Ones speciality roll, others deep fried. Everything was amazing. If you go get a couple of the sauces they give you for the pot stickers and calamari. It was delicious. We got the order to go but place looks nice inside. Didn't have to wait too long. read more

My sister HIGHLY recommended this place. As a lifelong sushi lover and self-proclaimed sushi fanatic, I can confidently say that Shogun Sushi is hands down the best sushi I've ever had. We came here to celebrate my brother's birthday and ordered their sushi boat, and let me tell you, that boat didn't stand a chance. It was gone in minutes. Every bite was perfection. The flavors were so fresh, vibrant, and balanced. It was like a party on my taste buds. You could really taste the quality and care that went into every roll and piece of nigiri. The presentation was beautiful. The service was absolutely top notch. The staff was kind, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. We have been coming here quite regularly and find all of the staff to be friendly and attentive but have to give a special shout out to Valerie! Valerie always makes us feel so welcomed and taken care of. We never have to ask for more water or extra napkins, our needs are met without us having to ask. They have the best happy hour in the area which runs Mon-Fri from 11am -4pm. The spicy garlic edamame, calamari and rainbow roll are a must! read more

After trying a few lunches there I found nothing to criticize at all. Good service and parking when I was there at least, attractive, modern interior and really good food. I especially liked the bento box with salmon and the shrimp tempura, and have to try more sushi there. Try it, you'll like it. read more

As of early December 2013 Shogun Sushi is under new ownership. Head Chef and proprietor, Jimmy Kil strives to make sure that his customers enjoy only the finest quality Japanese food available in the Sacramento area. Jimmy has been both a fish market buyer and expert trained head sushi chef for countless years.

Meet the Business Owner: Alex S.

Hello there! My name is Alex, I am the owner of Shogun Sushi. I have always dreamed of opening a restaurant specializing in my passion for sushi. I have been in the restaurant business for 11 years, but my passion for delivering quality food started in 1999 when my family moved to the United States. I worked hard alongside my mother and father at a teriyaki restaurant which sprouted my passion. The former owner Jimmy and I have been close friends for the majority of each other's lives, Jimmy offered me the opportunity to take over Shogun in early 2024. I had a vision for Shogun like no other. We wanted to create a special atmosphere that transports you into a different world while you experience new flavors of high-quality ingredients.

This place has always been a vibe and I've celebrated many an occasion here. But it's also one of our fave can't decide on anything dinner spots. The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not. Would I go back to Azayaka again? 100%. This would not discourage me from going back there any amount.

There were so many options on the menu that we were hoping to sample, but we finally settled on one each of the three different kinds of musubi they have (the OG Spam, chicken katsu and barbecue chicken), the fried saimin (again with Spam); I selected the barbecue mixed plate and my cousin picked the barbecue and chicken katsu plate. For dessert, the malasadas were an obligatory finish. (I'm just sorry we didn't get a photo of the malasadas.) We were instantly transported home with the first bite of the fried noodles. The musubi was the perfect ratio of meat to rice, and the nori perfectly covered everything (not one of these "bikini strips" of seaweed that don't even cover half of the musubi). The portions for the plates was impressive, and I've gotten a total of four meals from my leftovers. The malasadas were pillowy, and perfect, not greasy. The Hawaiian music was the perfect touch. It really felt like we were home during our meal. The restaurant was immaculate as was the restroom (yes, I judge a place on the cleanliness of the restroom and make sure there's soap in the dispenser!). So take it from someone born and raised in the Aloha State: if you're looking for 'ono mea 'ai (means "delicious food" in Hawaiian) DQ Hawaiian BBQ is the place to go.

Our friend got the kalua pork and she was very happy with it also. We're suckers for malasadas and we were very pleasantly surprised to find them on the menu.
