I'm glad I gave this place a chance. I've ordered through DoorDash maybe 4 times now and each time has been consistently delicious. I always get their version of the baked salmon roll and unagi roll because they have a 30% off lunch special. So good and such a good price! read more

Staff very nice and sushi rolls ordered were well received. The "ramen" was terrible - way too spicy and with no vegetables (other than a sprinkle of green onion), fish cake, or sliced pork. When I told our waitress the ramen was way too spicy for me, I could tell she was at a loss and only said that's how we do ramen. All I could do is take it home or leave it there uneaten. I am finding more and more restaurants embracing a more spicy or more sriracha topped or based offerings. Japanese ramen is rich and flavorful - either a beef, miso, or a seaweed broth base. If people are "demanding" spicy ramen, then please put sriracha or togarashi seasoning on the tables. read more

This place is my new go to for sushi! They have amazing sushi and the prices are great. The sushi was really fresh and they have a lot of roll options to choose from. I can only speak about the takeout as I've never eaten in the restaurant. Ordering is easily done by calling. They're typically ready faster than the set time expectation when ordering by phone. The food is delicious and they have always gotten our order correct (have ordered at least 5+ times). I love the chicken teriyaki bento box and my wife loves the same, but adds vegetable tempura. This has easily become our go-to Japanese restaurant. read more

I DoorDashed a roll while I was at work and it was absolutely delicious and so incredibly fresh. I typically have to have all the things lemon slices Sriracha low sodium soy sauce in order to be completely happy eating sushi, but that was not the case. It was perfect just the way it was and I enjoyed it so much. I had the Mikey special and I definitely recommend trying it. ;) read more

I absolutely adore this restaurant and have been here a few times already. The food is absolutely amazing. However, my recent visit was ruined by an incredibly disappointing server experience. My husband, child, and I dined there today. While it was a bit busy, it wasn't overwhelmingly so. Unlike the fantastic service I've received from other servers in the past, this server was truly awful. She seemed to actively avoid our table, and when she did interact with us, it was dismissive and rude. She brought our waters & my three-year-old daughter a glass cup instead of a plastic one, and when I requested a plastic cup, she slammed it on the table without a word. She completely ignored our "thank yous," even when my daughter politely thanked her. However, she was sweet and attentive to other tables in her section. We had to ask another server for water refills and kids' chopsticks because our server was nowhere to be found and never checked on us or our meal to ask if it was good or if we even need anything. NOTHING. I'm usually a generous tipper, often leaving over $20, but this server did not earn a cent from me. Lastly, she sent me to pay next to the bar while other people had their checks at the table. So much more happened but these were the main points that irritable me the Most. While I'll definitely be back for the incredible food, if I encounter this particular server again, I will absolutely be requesting a different one. Her attitude was unforgettable, and it completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable family meal on a Saturday night. read more

I'm never in this area and met up with an old friend and was pleasantly surprised. There are not many sushi spots in the area, and I chose the one with the highest rating. Came here for a friends birthday and had a great first experience. The sushi was delicious for starters. We ordered Boat C & Omakase Sashimi. The presentation of both was 10/10. Our waitress was really sweet and made great sake recommendations and even brought us two free rolls to start. My only complaint was that it took a longgg time to get water refills. I try to come here at least once a week. I found this gem one day working in Carmichael, and the food does not disappoint. The sushi is really tasty and the price is great. The inside has two rooms so they can serve plenty of people and every single roll i ate here is delicious. Their lunch special is the best bang for your buck and you can get hamache kama for $6!!! I had two rolls the Tokyo and housewife. Both were very good and fresh. My girlfriend had chicken noodle plate which is massive and very tasty. The server was very thorough and check on us frequently (not every few minutes) which I like. The ambiance of the restaurant was amazing, nicely decorated walls (with lights) and floors. As of early December 2013 Shogun Sushi is under new ownership. Head Chef and proprietor, Jimmy Kil strives to make sure that his customers enjoy only the finest quality Japanese food available in the Sacramento area. Jimmy has been both a fish market buyer and expert trained head sushi chef for countless years.

Meet the Business Owner: Alex S.

Hello there! My name is Alex, I am the owner of Shogun Sushi. I have always dreamed of opening a restaurant specializing in my passion for sushi. I have been in the restaurant business for 11 years, but my passion for delivering quality food started in 1999 when my family moved to the United States. I worked hard alongside my mother and father at a teriyaki restaurant which sprouted my passion. The former owner Jimmy and I have been close friends for the majority of each other's lives, Jimmy offered me the opportunity to take over Shogun in early 2024. I had a vision for Shogun like no other. We wanted to create a special atmosphere that transports you into a different world while you experience new flavors of high-quality ingredients.

After a few minutes, we decided on the following: - Dragon roll - 4.5 of 5 - I enjoyed it - kushi katsu - 3 of 5 - seemed average to me Sashimi mix - 3 of 5 - very fresh but otherwise average Red and white (a special?) - 4 of 5 - I enjoyed it Overall, despite the average to good sushi, the experience was very pleasant and the the bill wasn't horrible. I am still likely to return in the future - although their staple menu is limited, they do have their specials that I assume are seasonal which makes up for it.

This was our first time trying Shogun, though it's been on our list of places to try for quite some time. They made some rather last minute accommodations for a party of 12, for a birthday get together. The space itself is modern, clean, and more spacious than it appears from the outside. The service staff was very friendly, and made some awesome recommendations for rolls. They even went out of their way to ask the entire table how everybody enjoyed their food. Our entire party had nothing but good things to say about their meals, which is an accomplishment in itself. Even the bento boxes were amazing, which in my experience is typically just an afterthought at a restaurant specializing in sushi. I think we found our new sushi spot in town. read more

Under new ownership...and thank goodness. For a year I watched the quality of the service and food go down hill. Still, I decided to give Shogun Sushi one last chance, and boy am I glad I did! The new owner and chef Jimmy is AMAZING. Not only is Jimmy a real sushi artist, but he's a very pleasant change of personality to this place. The sushi has never been fresher tasting. The rolls I've been eating at Shogun in the past now tasted 10 times better than they used to. If you've ever been here and didn't like it you should try it again. I used to think Kru Sushi and Makuni were as good as it gets, now I know it gets WAY better! Ill be going back without a doubt. read more

A staff member with gauges in his ears and a combover hairstyle, who I believe was on the phone the other night, came across as unprofessional and had a negative tone. Had an amazing lunch at Shogun with my sister, and I can confidently say this place is a gem and such a vibe. The sushi was absolutely delicious & so fresh, and the rolls were huge. The menu has an incredible variety, and they even accommodated our request to wrap the rolls in cucumber. Shogun is my go to sushi spot these days! The rolls always taste fresh and are fairly sized for the price point. I usually get nigiri, and the chefs do amazing at elevating a simple dish with the different toppings and textures. Tonight I revisited an old favorite- So So So Fresh. The staff is also generally super nice and professional. The restaurant also has a nice energy to it- with spaces for larger, more social groups and spaces for something a little more intimate. Shogun was very clean and quiet as we walked in. The waiter offered us a seat as we walked in. We decided to order to-go. I added the sauce for the BBQ beef to the saimin and it was great. We did try the malasadas. They are made fresh to order and come out blazing hot coated in sugar. They are pretty good hot. But with 10 pieces to an order, it was too much for the two of us to eat in a sitting. It would be great if they'd offered a filled kind in the future.
